Notes: Tafseer Surah Mulk- Shaikh Faisal

Tafseer Surah Mulk
Shaikh Abdullah Faisal
(evening dars 4.22.11)

Surah Kahf (18)- saves you from Dajjal
Surah Waqiaa- saves you from poverty
Surah Kafiroon- saves you from hypocrisy
Surah Ikhlas - saves you from shirk (it’s 1/3 rd of the Qur’an)
Surah Mulk (67)- saves you from punishment of grave
Surah Jinn- saves you from jinn
The Qhuls- saves you from black magic / evil eye/ jinn
--some Surahs are more important than others
-Rasul(saw) said I wish everyone from my ummah memorizes this Surah
The Prophet (saws) and his companions (ra) used to read Surah al-Mulk every night before going to sleep as it protects the one who recites this Surah, from the torment of the grave

Surah Mulk
1. Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things.

--Everything in the universe is takes place by Allah’s permission and by his knowledge/will (Qadr Allah).  This is His mulk
--In his hand (Yaad) is the dominion> is it a Literal hand or does it mean “Authority”?
--Allah has two hands but they do not resemble your hands
--6 people have a problem accepting Allah’s two hands: Tablighi, Deobandi, Sufi, Shia, Ashari, mu’tazila, Barelvis and Maturidi
--they have issues because they have shirk on their minds/hearts
--they call you "wahabbi" who give him body parts
(Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands. Are you too proud (to fall prostrate to Adam) or are you one of the high exalted?" (38:75)
--Allah created 3 things with his two hands: pen, Adam and the Arsh

SHIITE BELIEF:
“Certainly, the Imam commands a noble station and lofty position; a creative vice-gerency to whose rule and power submit the very atoms of all creation. And an essential tenet of our Shiite sect is that the Imams have a position which is reached neither by the angels [in the highest heaven] nor by any commissioned messenger of God. ” (Khomeini, Al-Hukoomat ul-lslamiyyah, pp. 52-53)
"The teachings of the imams are like the teachings of the Qur'an. They do not apply to one particular generation, but rather to everyone in every age and place until the Day of Judgment.'' (page 52, Cairo, 1979)
--3 kinds of complex>inferiority complex, superiority complex, God complex (Shia have god complex)

Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. [This Verse 2:255 is called Ayat-ul-Kursi.] (2:255)

--Mulk is in the hands of Allah
--he has created the heavens and the earth
--The One Who sustains and protects all that exists
--Neither slumber, nor sleep overtakes Him.
--The first 3 generations didn’t have an issue with the word (yad): “hand
READ IT - BELIEVE IT - LEAVE IT
--you are not allowed to put a spin on it or reject it
--Mujassima- gve Allah a body like our body
--Mushabbiha- make Allah simmilr to us with his 99 names and attributes
--Muatillah reject the names and attributes Allah (swt)
--No one knows the Likeness of Allah's hand except Him (Allah)
(Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands. Are you too proud (to fall prostrate to Adam) or are you one of the high exalted?" (38:75)
--we are not literalistic
--we are ASWJ
--we go along with hujjah
--Allah curses those who speak about Allah without knowledge
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al-Fawâhish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse,) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allâh for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allâh of which you have no knowledge." (7:33)

Allaah is Al Qadeer (the One who has power over all things)
--not having knowledge that Allah is Al-Qadeer does not make one a kaafir
--A man asked his family to burn him and scatter his ashes:  He said, ‘My Lord! Fear of You!’ So Allah forgave him.” [Sahih Bukhari]
--We can not deny any attribute of Allaah (tala) that is in the Qur’an
--If you deny Allah’s name/attributes in Quran you are kaafir. If you deny Allah’s name/attributes in Hadith you are deviant
Zoroastrians, fire-worshippers of Iran: They have the Aqeedah of 2 powers:
Or like the one who passed by a town and it had tumbled over its roofs. He said: "Oh! How will Allah ever bring it to life after its death?" So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him up (again). He said: "How long did you remain (dead)?" He (the man) said: "(Perhaps) I remained (dead) a day or part of a day". He said: "Nay, you have remained (dead) for a hundred years, look at your food and your drink, they show no change; and look at your donkey! And thus We have made of you a sign for the people. Look at the bones, how We bring them together and clothe them with flesh". When this was clearly shown to him, he said, "I know (now) that Allah is Able to do all things." (259)

Surah Mulk
2. Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving

--Allah created life and death to see which one of u is the best in conduct and character
Yaqeen = that which is certain (certainly we will die)
Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing). (3:185)
--Rasul(saw) said: Be in the world like a traveler (knowing it’s temporary)
--You will be resurrected doing the thing you were doing when you died!

Signs someone had a good death:
- if they recite "la illah ilallah"
- died defending your 6 sacred possessions (life, wealth, honor, aql, lineage, and deen)
- died with sweat on your forehead
- died traveling to seek knowledge
- died traveling to the battlefield
- died on the battlefield (as a shaheed!)
- died in childbirth (as a shaheedah!) (has to be a Muslim woman)
- died if a building fell upon you
- died from a pandemic
- died from stomach illness
- died because you got burnt with fire
- died if you were drowned in the sea

--Allah has created death/ life to test who is best in conduct
--you prepare for death with pious deeds
--the best generation was the generation of the Rasul
--and then those who come after, then those who come after
--they died, but some people can’t cope with death
Verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) will die and verily, they (too) will die. (39:30)

Rasul (saws) said: my ummat will never give up 3 things from jahiliyiah:
1. wailing over the dead
2. brag/boast about their tribe
3. asabiyya

The dead is punished because of the lamentation of the living [Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 2025]
It was narrated from Abu Maalik al-Ash’ari that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are four things in my ummah from the jahiliyiah which they will not give up: pride in one’s ancestry, slandering the lineage of others, seeking rain from the stars and wailing over the dead. If the woman who wails does not repent before she dies, she will be raised on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of tar and a shirt of scabs.’ [Narrated by Muslim, al-Janaa’iz, 1550]

Islamic Will
--one of the ways to prepare for death is to write a will
--say how you want your wealth to be used (if you don’t specify your family will fight over it)
--say you want to be buried with Muslims and to be prayed over by a person of ASWJ
--designate 3 people to wash you)

And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.).  Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." (2:155-156)

--don’t insult Allah
--death is something decreed and it is a test
--life is difficult, not everything in life will be "hunky dory" (easy for you)
Verily, We have created man in toil. (90:4)
Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested.  And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allâh will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allâh knows all that before putting them to test). (29:1-3)
--you need to have sabr when tested by Allah
--there is no evidence that you must be pleased with Qadr; you must have sabr (patience)
And among mankind is he who worships Allâh as it were, upon the edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islâm). He loses both this world and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss. (22:11)
--don’t worship Allah tala on the edge (if you are not patient, you will apostate)
--some of us don’t behave properly when the trials of life afflict us
--there are many hurdles to entering paradise (al kinds of temptations/tests)
--the uphill road leads to paradise/ the flat/easy road leads straight to hellfire
Verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) will die and verily, they (too) will die. (39:30)
--some people can’t cope with death (some people can’t still cope with the death of
Muhammad saws) (eg. Sufis and Barelvis)
--Sahabah were in agreement that Rasul(saw) is unaware about the happenings of the Ummah
Ijmah = agreement
The Prophet said, "I will be at my Lake-Fount (Kauthar) waiting for whoever will come to me. Then some people will be taken away from me where upon I will say, 'My followers!' It will be said, 'You do not know they turned Apostates as renegades (deserted their religion)." [al-Bukhari 9.99.172]

Surah Mulk
3. Who has created the seven heavens one above another, you can see no fault in the creations of the Most Beneficent. Then look again: "Can you see any rifts?"
4. Then look again and yet again, your sight will return to you in a state of humiliation and worn out.

--Allah has created everything and his creation is perfect
--you will be humiliated if you try to find any discrepancies
--you will be forced to give up Darwinism and accept intelligent design
--the human anatomy is perfect
--how can we be "freaks of nature?” we have different fingerprints, iris and DNA
--Einstein believed in God
It’s no great thing to believe in God ~ what’s great is to reject the taghoot
--"seeing is believing" (you score an own goal)
--we didn’t see a metamorphosis of monkey--> man and can’t give blood to each other
--they don’t want to submit to Allah because they worship their desires
Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilâh (god)? and Allâh knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allâh? Will you not then remember? (45:23)

Surah Mulk
5. And indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps, and We have made such lamps (as) missiles to drive away the Shayâtin (devils), and have prepared for them the torment of the blazing Fire
--you are not allowed to wish (eg. people wish on shooting stars)
--only praise and ask Allah
--shooting stars drive away shaitan (but not in Ramadan because they are in chains)
--Big shaitan(Iblis) is not in chains / he is loose (he came at Battle of Badr)
And (remember) when Shaitân (Satan) made their (evil) deeds seem fair to them and said, "No one of mankind can overcome you this Day (of the battle of Badr) and verily, I am your neighbour (for each and every help)." But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he ran away and said " "Verily, I have nothing to do with you. Verily! I see what you see not. Verily! I fear Allâh for Allâh is Severe in punishment." (6:48)
--Stars have 3 purposes: to drive away shaitans, to beautify the heavens, guide you

Allah created these stars for three reasons:
(i) To adorn the heaven,
(ii) as missiles against the devils and
(iii) as signs by which (the traveler) may be guided; and so whoever claims more than this for them has is enormous and has lost his reward (on the Day of Resurrection) and taken upon himself that of which he has no knowledge. [Bukhari]
