Notes: Death - Shaikh Faisal

Death
Shaikh Abdullah Faisal
(evening dars 5.02.11)

YAQEEN = Qur’an refers to death
--it means that which is certain something you cannot escape from
SAQAR = a place in hell where you cannot get out
--they did not pray or feed the poor and they indulged in falsehood
--and take part in vain talks and denied the Day of Judgment
--because on Judgment Day, no intercession can be of any benefit to them
--whenever a calamity befalls you, you’re not allowed to wish for death, make dua:
'oh Allah, give me life, if life is better for me - oh Allah give me death - if death is
better for me "
--wishing for death is makrooh or those who committed suicide, Allah says:
'my servant brought death upon himself horridly by committing suicide, therefore I will dump him in hellfire'
--it’s only the Khawarij who believe that the one who commits suicide will be in Hellfire forever; the person who committed suicide may be saved with intercession
Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing) (3:185)
--Historically, people always find it hard to cope with the loss of pious ones
--Allah is going to test us (with loss of life, hunger or loss of property)
--but the believer says "from Allah we came and to Allah we will return"
--even though it is difficult to cope with death
--Umar could not handle the loss of RasulAllah. He said 'I will chop off the head of anyone who claims Rasul Allah is dead.'  Abu Bakr was calm and collected and he gave the Muslims the sort of leadership they needed to allow the Muslims to pull together: 'If you worshiped Rasul, know that he is dead, but if you worshiped Allah, then know He is alive and can never die'
Muhammad () is no more than a Messenger, and indeed (many) Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you then turn back on your heels (as disbelievers)? And he who turns back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah, and Allah will give reward to those who are grateful (3:144)
Verily, you (O Muhammad ) will die and verily, they (too) will die. (39:30)
--the deen of Allah does not depend upon the birth/death of any person
--Allah has promised to protect this deen
He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad ) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islamic Monotheism) to make it victorious over all (other) religions even though the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammed ) hate (it). (61:9)
--the greatest person, Rasul(saws) death did not affect the spread of Islam
--the greatest gains of Islam occurred after the death of Rasul(saw)
--Persia, Rome, Spain, - East and west Islam spread and continued to spread
--Rasul(saw) is not cognizant of what is happening to his Ummah and he is not alive in the grave
"I will be at my Lake-Fount (Kauthar) waiting for whoever will come to me. Then some people will be taken away from me where upon I will say, 'My followers!' It will be said, 'You do not know they turned Apostates as renegades (deserted their religion)." [al-Bukhari 9.99.172]

MAKING A WILL (you need to make a will and clearly specify the following):
1) for you to be buried in a Muslim grave-yard
2) that you want your property distributed according to Islamic law
3) and specify whom you want to wash you
O you who believe! Fear Allah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah. (3:102)

--don’t die unless you die as a Muslim
--Rasul (saw) said 'I used to stop you from visiting the graves, now I am telling you, you can go because it will remind you of death'
Buraidah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "(In the past) I forbade you from visiting graves, but visit them now.'' [Riyadh as Saliheen 66.581]
--Angel of Death is invisible because people used to abuse him
--the most pious amongst you should wash the dead
--those who carry the dead should make wudu / those who wash should make ghusl
--Rasul (saw) said: 'one of the things of jahiliyiah the Muslims are not going to abandon is wailing over the dead'
"Whoever gives bath to a dead person should perform a Ghusl and whoever carries him should perform Wudu."[Tirmidhi]

HOW CAN YOU TELL A PERSON HAD A GOOD DEATH:
1. their last words were: la illaha ilallah" (there is no God worthy of worship except Allah)
the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “A person whose last words are Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah [there is no go but Allaah] will enter Paradise.” [Narrated by Abu Dawood, 3116; classed as Saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 2673]
2. they died on a journey going towards performing a good deed
3. they person died doing an act of ibadah
4. they person died doing jihad or defending your 6 sacred things (life, wealth, izzah, aql, lineage, and your deen)
5. they died due to a pandemic
6. or they died due to a stomach illness
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “…and whoever dies of a stomach disease is a martyr.” [Narrated by Muslim, 1915]
7. or they died in a fire
Muslim (1550) narrated from Abu Maalik al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “There are four matters of Jahiliyiah in my ummah that they will not give up: pride in one’s forefathers, slandering lineages, seeking rain by the stars and wailing (for the dead).” [Narrated by Muslim, al-Janaa’iz, 1550]
8. they died in childbirth
9. they died drowning
he Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The martyrs are five: the one who dies of plague, the one who dies of a stomach disease, the one who drowns, the one who is crushed by a falling wall, and the one who is martyred for the sake of Allaah.” [Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2829; Muslim, 1915]
10. they died of a building falling on them
11. they died on the battlefield
12. they died w/ sweat on their forehead

Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision (3:169)
They rejoice in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His Bounty, rejoicing for the sake of those who have not yet joined them, but are left behind (not yet martyred) that on them no fear shall come, nor shall they grieve (3:170)

FAVORS OF A SHAHEED
1. all his sins are forgiven from the first drop of his blood
2. saved from the punishment of the grave
3. he will cross the bridge of sirat with the speed of lightening

So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. (74:48)
