-47- Take Care of your Heart

Tafseer Surah Baqarah: Take Care of your Heart

By Shaikh Abdullah Faisal

(morning dars 5.28.11)

-- In the last dars, we stopped at ayah 74

Then, even after that, your hearts were hardened and became as rocks, or worse than rocks, for hardness. For indeed there are rocks from out which rivers gush, and indeed there are rocks which split asunder so that water floweth from them. And indeed there are rocks which fall down for the fear of Allah. Allah is not unaware of what ye do. (Al-Baqarah 2:74)

-- A person’s heart becomes hard because of the environment: if you are living in a ghetto of a poor country: your environment will affect your heart

-- It is very important that you find the right environment with the right people

-- Because of that, the Rasool said, "I am innocent of the people who live in daar al kufr/harb"

-- The reason why many Muslims have become hard hearted: because of the environment

O you who believe! Be afraid of Allâh, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds) (At-Tawbah 9:119)

-- You are commanded in this ayah to be with those who are sincere

-- Your environment can destroy your heart

-- All of you belong to the religion of your friend: so chose carefully

-- You can Google Faria Alam: it’s not only her who is sleeping with kaafir men: she is the most famous because

-- She earned one million dollars from her affair

-- Thousands of Muslims living in daar al kufr/harb have been destroyed...

-- When you want to keep milk from going off you put it in the fridge:

-- When the Muslim wants to remain a Muslim, they must be in Islamic environment

-- People are intrigued by novelties: they like to see new things:

-- How can a Muslim woman join the ranks of the kuffar women and sell her sex stories:

-- Her environment destroyed her heart

The Bedouins are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and more likely to be in ignorance of the limits (Allâh's Commandments and His Legal Laws, etc.) which Allâh has revealed to His Messenger. And Allâh is All-Knower, All-Wise. (At-Tawbah 9:97)

Dire straits

- Shaikh Faisal approached his shaikhs and asked why the Bedouin are mentioned here:

- He was told, [life is hard in the desert, and they may have little food and suffer dire straits (poverty)]:

- This makes them become hard in their hearts

- This is why Allah said; those Arabs who live in the desert are the worst in kufr and nifaq

- In Africa there were people, who were poor... when Christian aid came through,

- They would “praise Jesus, hallelujah. Thank the lord for Jesus, amen”

- Next month, when the Muslim aid came through... they would say: “Assalamualikum, Allahuakbar”

- They would swing between religions, as they were just thinking about where their next meal would come from

- Umar ibn al Khattab said: "verily poverty leads to kufr"

- Another athar (saying of the Sahabahs): Umar said:

- "If poverty was a man, I would have killed him with my own two hands"

One of the things that because a person to become hard hearted is poverty

-- You cannot give your walaa to one thing, as you are hungry and you want to eat

-- There are some who live in air conditioned rooms: "armchair scholars”

-- They do not mix with the people, so they know the fiqh al waqi'

When a sister PMs Shaikh Faisal to ask about marriage issues, he tells her to see a local Shaikh

--they say they only have imams in their communities

--but you cannot pass a fatwa until you know the fiqh al waqi'

Ahmad ibn Hanbal used to sweat before he passed a fatwa

-- Hadith Rasool: some of you are excellent in speaking

-- When the Sahabahs heard this, they cried, they will give the right away to their Muslim brother

-- In this life as they didn’t want to give it back on Judgment Day

-- today many Muslims take away each others rights, as if to say they have never heard about judgment day

-- How many of you have borrowed money and not given it back?

-- Some Muslims are con artists, they have the gift of the gab, and

-- They borrow money and don’t pay it back

-- How many of you Muslim men, marry a sister and consummate the marriage and

-- didn’t yet pay her mahr (dowry)?? –you are not building trust (amaana)

-- The Rasool said, ‘the one who is not jealous of his wife’

"Allah has forbidden the Paradise to three people: the alcoholic, the runaway slave, and the one who is complacent in the face of the evil deeds that his family is performing" (Sahih al-Jami # 3047)

-- The man who said wallahi and lies, the adulterer, and the man who has no jealousy....

-- when did you last attend a masjid, heard a khutbah and cried, heard a story about a Sahabah and cried

-- the Rasool said, Allah has forbidden the hell-fire to burn two sets of eyes

-- Al muraabit watches the borders of the Islamic state

-- have you ever locked yourself up in a room and remembered Allah and cried?

Ibn Abbas related that he heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) saying: "The fire will not touch the two pairs of eyes; one that sheds tears out of fear of Allah and the other that keeps watch throughout the night in the cause of Allah." (Nasa’i, Tirmidhi)

What makes you hard hearted: watching the kuffar TV/ listening to music

-- How can you watch kaafir TV?

-- When you are watching the kaafir TV, you do not feel sleepy

-- But when you go to the masjid on a Friday to hear a khutbah, you fall asleep!

-- You are what you eat: we do not eat pork; people who eat pork have no jealousy

-- the bull, the ram, the billy goat fight because of jealousy... the pig doesn’t do this, it has no jealousy

-- the flesh of the pig is similar to the flesh of humans

-- cannibals have stated that the meats taste very similar

-- there is hikmah behind every command, donkey meat is haraam, donkeys are stupid: you are what you eat

Narrated Salama bin Al-Akwa: On the day of Khaibar the Prophet saw fires being lighted. He asked, "Why are these fires being lighted?" The people replied that they were cooking the meat of donkeys. He said, "Break the pots and throw away their contents." The people said, "Shall we throw away their contents and wash the pots (rather than break them)?" He said, "Wash them." (Bukhari Book #43, Hadith #657)

-- The only time you can eat pig or donkey meat is when you are starving

-- you are what you read/see/eat

-- you have to abstain from harmful viewing, reading, listening, etc

-- when a person is a murtad or a munafiqh, it is easy to get married... as many are murtadeen or munafiqeen

-- it’s more difficult for a believer to find a wife/husband

-- Many Muslims live in white neighborhoods, thinking that it’s a status symbol

-- to live amongst middle class whites) with no masjid in the area (like Norwich, UK)

-- We cannot generalize, and paint the entire desert Arabs with the same brush

And of the Bedouins there are some who look upon what they spend (in Allâh's Cause) as a fine and watch for calamities for you, on them be the calamity of evil. And Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (At-Tawbah 9:98)

-- Your environment can destroy your heart: the prophet said: beware of beautiful crops,

-- the Shaikh said, it means beware of beautiful women who grew up in bad/corrupted environment

-- These women can be deceptive/manipulative

"Beware of the green manure." The Companions asked: "What is the green manure?" He said: "A beautiful woman of bad origin (i.e. upbringing)." [Reported by Ad-Daaraqutnee]

-- The Rasool said: every child was born on fitrah

-- Once again this is proof that your environment corrupts you:

-- Your parents messed you up, they have you worshipping 3 gods,

The Prophet Muhammad said, "No baby is born but upon Fitra (as a Muslim). It is his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Polytheist." (Sahih Muslim, Book 033, Number 6426)

-- look what these children became, some of them hate Islam with a passion

-- Because the environment corrupted their hearts

-- Muslim parents don’t let their kids watch certain things

-- At-Tauba 9:119

-- Allah commanded you to keep good company

-- Allah has taught us the dua to make... Al-Imran 3:8

(They say): "Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after you have guided us, and grant us mercy from you. Truly, You are the Bestower." (Aali Imran 3:8)

-- you are taught this dua because the hearts do not remain the same

-- some of the Sahabahs were with the prophet, then Musaylimah came

-- and claimed to be a prophet they then joined with him, and become apostates

-- do not marry a hypocrite!! : some women only care that a man is rich and handsome ...

-- men marry women for four reasons

A woman is married for four (reasons): her wealth, noble ancestry, beauty and religion. Choose the religious woman lest your hand is stuck to dust (because of destitution)." [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

-- take care of your heart by going to a regular study circle, learning your deen

-- and abstaining from the company of the kuffar, munafiqeen, murtadeen

-- check them in their deen, do they pray? do they believe in kufr bitaghout, love the mujahideen??

The Prophet said, "A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a losers. Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 27

-- your heart will be affected by the person you marry as well as your persona

-- you must wear jilbab and jilbab

-- your husband/brother/father will be held accountable for you

-- are you taking care of your heart

-- when you go shopping, you do not get rubbish and throw it in the basket

-- you buy good food to take care of your health

-- by reading the right books, listening to the right lectures.. keeping company of good people

-- read the Quran, read Hadith : like riyadhu saliheen

"Avoid Khamr, for it is the mother of all sins"(Muslim)

-- when you read al Bukhari go to chapter kitab ar-riqaa:

-- these are the Hadith that make your heart soft

-- these Hadith are there to help your hearts become soft

-- the Rasool said: in your chest there is a lump of flesh

-- see Hadith No 6 Nawawi

-- you need to take care of your heart : if you want to be successful in this life and the hereafter

You find the Muslims in their mutual love and compassion, like one body, should any organ of it fall ill, the rest of the body will share in the fever and sleeplessness that ensues" (al-Bukhari)
