-64- Beware of Speaking without Knowledge

Tafseer Surah Baqarah: Beware of Speaking without Knowledge
by Shaikh Abdullah Faisal

(morning dars: 6.6.11)

Al-Baqarah 2:76
And when they fall in with those who believe, they say: We believe. But when they go apart one with another they say: Prate ye to them of that which Allah hath disclosed to you that they may contend with you before your Lord concerning it? Have ye then no sense? (76)

The Jews believed in Muhammad
--this is why they said to hide his descriptions from the ummah
--they had his descriptions in their holy book, the Torah
--the ummah will be a witness against mankind on Judgment Day (the Jews know this)
--and Muhammad (saws) will be a witness over us

We're to be a witness to mankind
--we will testify against the nations who came before us (and they know our unique role)
--so they wanted to hide the Torah from us because Muhammad's description is revealed there
--his descriptions were revealed vividly, so there was no doubt

The kaafirs in Makkah

--they planned to take a 'fake' Shahadah and then apostate from Islam
--they planned to create confusion afterward and cause others to apostate w/ them
--they plotted but Allah tala is the best of planners
--so their plot failed

--munafiqhs tell on themselves [just by opening their mouth]
--so the plan wasn't implemented

Muhammad 47:30
And if We would, We could show them unto thee (Muhammad) so that thou shouldst know them surely by their marks. And thou shalt know them by the burden of their talk. And Allah knoweth your deeds. (30)

The mouth is the window to the soul!

3 reasons people become munafiqh
1. They stop their prayers
2. They were planted by mi5 or fbi
3 They took a fake Shahadah

--ie met a pretty girl @ university so they take a fake Shahadah to have the girl

Tauba 9:17
It is not for the Mushrikun (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah), to maintain the Mosques of Allah (i.e. to pray and worship Allah therein, to look after their cleanliness and their building,), while they witness against their ownselves of disbelief. The works of such are in vain and in Fire shall they abide. (9:17)

Munafiqhs and their salah
--Salah ul Jummah is required for males
--if they miss 3 Salah ul Jummah in a row, they commit a great crime against Islam
--it's not required for women but if we can go, we should
--it helps our eeman (in Nigeria, sisters come by 1000s for jummah salah)
--these women make it their own duty
--the same was true in South Africa [Capetown]
--they are Shafi'i and they come to Fajr Salah w/ their husbands
--we can tell the fake Shahadah of someone who is not praying consistently

We all have 5 needs:

1. Emotional [we need to be loved by someone]
--if not, we can easily become abused

Umar told a man he wouldn't give him job because the man didn't kiss any of his 10 kids!
--the man didn't cater to his kids' emotional needs

Yusuf's brothers left him in a well to die because his brothers felt their father preferred him over them
--in the name of sibling rivalry, he was left to die
--skillful parents split their love evenly among their children

2. Spiritual [you go to study circles or come to this room 2x a day / 7 days a week]
--sometimes we hear a Hadith more than once:
--we're not allowed to say, "oh I heard that before"

3. Physical [food, water, air and s-x]
--single sisters have migraine headaches because they're not active w/ their s-x needs

4. Mental and Intellectual

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle kissed Al-Hasan bin Ali while Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them," Allah's Apostle cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully." (Bukhari Book #73, Hadith #26)

--someone in solitary confinement in prison can become senile
--don't marry someone beneath your status (intellectually)
--it's not haraam but it's preferred for you
--women marry brothers beneath their status because they have needs to fulfill
--a sister is a doctor in New York (a revert) and she married a 'house husband' [stays home]
--it's not wise to marry beneath your status

5. Financial needs
--do not forget your portion of the dunya

Al-Qasas 28:77
But seek, with that (wealth) which Allâh has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of lawful enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allâh has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily, Allâh likes not the Mufsidûn (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupters). (77)

Jews wanting to hide Torah from the ummah
--they don't want us to testify against them on the day of Judgment, but we will

We will testify against the people of Prophet Nuh
We will testify against the people of the Prophet Lut (against their homosexual ways)

Al-Baqarah 2:143
That ye may be witnesses against mankind, and that the messenger may be a witness against you.

"From Abu Abdullah Az-Zubair bin Al-'Awwam ra, he said: The Prophet said: What if one of you take some pieces of rope, then go to the mountain and back to carry a bundle of firewood and sell it, then the results God it suffice the needs of your life, it's better than begging to fellow human beings, whether they give or not. "(Narrated by Bukhari)

Al-Baqarah 2:77 – 78
Are they then unaware that Allah knoweth that which they keep hidden and that which they proclaim? (77) Among them are unlettered folk who know the Scripture not except from hearsay. They but guess. (78)

A pretender to knowledge
--if you lie on your CV [curriculum vitae / resume] you are desperate and it's ridiculous to do
--you will make laughing stock out of yourself
--so some Jews were pretending to have knowledge but they guess

Al-Araf 7:33
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al-Fawâhish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse,) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allâh for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allâh of which you have no knowledge."

Shameful sins done openly
--some do shameful intercourse openly
--there's places in New York [5th Avenue or Manhattan] to see these
--you can watch for $15 USD
--Allah has forbidden open and secret sins
--we have no right to give Allah tala partners or speak of Him without knowledge

The man with the cracked skull
--the Sahabahs went on a jihad mission
--on the mission, a man got a crack in his skull (open wound)
--during the night, he had a wet dream so he wanted to do Tayammum [dry ablution]
--the Sahabahs refused and required him to make ghusl
--the water from the ghusl went into the crack and killed him (like infection)
--the Rasool (saws) said it was as if they had killed him themselves for requiring the ghusl
--their repentance was required openly because
--the repentance of a Shaikh must be made publicly [many don't know this ]

Abir said, "We were on a journey and one of us got injured. Later, he had a wet dream. He asked his companions, 'Can I perform Tayammum?' They said, 'No, not if you have water.' He performed ghusl and died. When they came to the Messenger of Allah, they informed him of what had transpired. He said, 'They killed him, Allah will kill them. Do you not ask if you do not know? The rescue of the ignorant person is the question. He could have performed Tayammum and dropped water on his wound or wrapped it with something and wipe over the wrapping, and wash the rest of his body." This is related by Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, ad-Daaraqutnee and Ibn as-Sakin, who said it is Sahih.

**Sahih Hadith means they are authentic

Al-Baqara 2:160
Except those who repent and do righteous deeds, and openly declare (the truth which they concealed). These, I will accept their repentance. And I am the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful. (160)

Narrated Abdullah: It is a sign of having knowledge that, when you do not know something, you say: 'Allah knows better.' Bukhari, Book 60, No.347

There’s 3 types of scholars
1. sinful
2. wicked
3. sincere

Sinful scholars are married w/ girlfriends
Wicked scholars will make their own fatwa [it's ok to have a girlfriend when you're married]
--so he makes haraam, halal
--such as Ian Dallas (Shaikh in Africa) who made his own Islam:
--“hijabs are not necessary”
--wicked scholars are kaafirs
--Hamza Yusuf and Yusuf Qadawii are wicked scholars
--Tariq Ramadan from France and Shaikh Nazam al-Haqqani are also wicked scholars

Sincere scholars back up everything they say w/ the hujjah
--their Islam is from Qur'an and Sunnah

Ja'd ibn Dirham said that Prophet Musa did not speak to Allah tala on Mt Sinai
--Khalid ibn Abdullah al Qasree told the people on Eid Day “bring your animals for a sacrifice”

--on Eid Day, gave swift punishment to Ja’d by chopping off his head
--because he denied that Allah tala spoke to Musa on Mt Sinai
--lay people are not to deal w/ wicked scholars; the amirs are
--because the amir is responsible for the ummah
--we can't have dodgy aqeeda in our ummah so the amir takes care of this

We are not to take our aqeeda from these scholars: they appease and please the kuffar

Al-Baqarah 2:166, 167
(On the day) when those who were followed disown those who followed (them), and they behold the doom, and all their aims collapse with them. (166) And those who were but followers will say: If a return were possible for us, we would disown them even as they have disowned us. Thus will Allah show them their own deeds as anguish for them, and they will not emerge from the Fire. (167)

We have been given AQL (intellect) so Allah tala holds us responsible

We can blind follow in regard to fiqh but NOT aqeeda

Think for yourself: always ask for the hujjah

Wicked scholars speak without knowledge

Beware of Speaking without Knowledge!
