Tafseer Surah Naml: Musa (ra)
by Shaikh Abdullah Faisal
(evening dars: 6.6.11)
Miracles of the Holy Qur’ân.
--Nobody knows the meaning of them except ALLAH.
--the Mutazalites like to explain these letters in suspicion
--you are not allowed to guess the knowledge of Allah.
--so we should follow Ibn Kathir who says, only Allah knows.
Ta. Sin. These are revelations of the Qur'an and a Scripture that maketh plain; (27:1)
The Mutazalites themselves have 30 different opinions on the meaning of Alif Laam Meem.
--we should stick to the fact that Allah knows only.
--the Qur’ân tells you that it is a clear book.
--the part of the Qur’ân that are clear is the Fiqh & Aqeedah.
Other aspects of the Qur’an
--but there are other aspects of the Qur’ân that we do not know the meaning.
--no one knows the meaning of the allegorical verses except Allah.
--the Shia says that there Imaan knows the meaning of the allegorical verses.
--We are not allowed to take tafseer from the Shiites.
--They say in tafseer of Surah Baqarah verse 7: that the cow is Aisha.
Al-Baqarah 2:67 And (remember) when Mûsa (Moses) said to his people: "Verily, Allâh commands you that you slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you make fun of us?" He said, "I take Allâh's Refuge from being among Al-Jâhilûn (the ignorants or the foolish)."
--the cow in this Ayah according to the Shia Tafseer is Aisha.
--It is Haraam for us to take our Deen from the Shiites.
--and Imam Malik said, its is haraam to take from them.
--If a Shiite is found in the chain of a Hadith, then that Hadith is fabricated.
--Imam Malik said don’t take your Deen from them, for they lie!!!
Surah Naml 27:2 A guide (to the Right Path); and glad tidings for the believers [who believe in the Oneness of Allâh (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism)]. (An-Naml 27:2)
The Qur’ân is the bringing of glad tidings only to the Believers.
Aali Imran 3:19 Truly, the religion with Allâh is Islâm. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. And whoever disbelieves in the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh, then surely, Allâh is Swift in calling to account.
The only religion acceptable to Allah is Islam.
Aali Imran 3:85 And whoever seeks a religion other than Islâm, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.
If the Qur’ân is telling you that you are a loser, it’s referring to non-believers.
--the Qur’ân brings only the glad tidings to the Believers: not a Kaafir.
An-Naml 27:3 Those who perform As ¬Salât (Iqamat¬as¬ Salaat) and give Zakât and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter (resurrection, recompense of their good and bad deeds, Paradise and Hell, etc.). (The believers are those who are the sincere believers.
Even the shaytaan believes on the day of resurrection.
Al-Hijr 15:36 A debate took place between Imam Shafi & Ibn Hanbal about the person who abandons Salah. [Iblîs (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." Imam Shafi says he is within the fold of Islam whereas Ibn Hanbal said otherwise.
At-Tawbah 9:11 But if they repent, perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât) and give Zakât, then they are your brethren in religion. (In this way) We explain the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for a people who know.
The debate went on until Imam Hanbal used Surah 9, verse 11 to cheek mate Imam Shafi.
Allah revealed Surah Tawbah... when Prophet (pbuh) asked what the conditions are to accept a Muslim.
Abandoning the Salah
--the correct opinion about abandoning the Salah is that he leaves the fold of Islam.
--during the time of Abu Bakr, he fought those who did not want to pay the Zakah.
--even though they recited the Shahadah, but because they rejected the pillar of Islam, i.e Zakah.
--they nullified their Shahadah.
Islam Survived 3 days:
1-The day Allah granted victory on the battle of Badr.
2-The day Abu Bakr fought those who neglected to pay zakah.
3-When Imam Hanbal fought the Mutazalites who said the Qur’ân was created.
The Speech of Allah tala
--when the Angels hear the speech of Allah, they drop down & faint
--to say the Qur’ân is created, you are saying the Qur’ân is imperfect!
An-Naml 27:4 Angel Gabriel was the media to reveal the Qur’ân to Prophet (pbuh).
Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, We have made their deeds fair-seeming to them, so they wander about blindly
Have you ever seen the flies that fly on the light bulb?
--they are blind, just like the infidels
--in the time of Prophet (pbuh), a blind man saw the beauty of Islam & accepted Islam.
--he used his Heart to see the beauty of Islam
--the real blind man is not the one who is blind in his eyes... but it’s the Heart that is blind.
--in the Bible, Christians say Jesus said to a man, “Let the Dead bury the dead.”
There are 2 types of dead:
What Jesus meant is the one who is spiritually dead, let him bury the physically dead.
--even wives have 2 beauties: spiritual & physical
--the Kaafir go for Physical beauty... that’s why they marry the young when their wives go old.
Aisha and Khadijah:
--the Prophet (pbuh) would always praise Khadijah & Aisha use to get jealous because
--she used to compare her beauty & age to Khadijah
--the Prophet (pbuh) said Khadijah believed in me when no one did.
--the Prophet (pbuh) was trying to say to Aisha that you were focusing on physical beauty
--whereas there is a spiritual beauty.
--just as Prophet (pbuh) stayed with Aisha even when she got old because he loved her spiritually
Allah says that the Kuffar, those who do not believe in the Aakhirah, we beauty for them this dunya.
One of the Questions in the Qur’ân is:
Where are you going, Surah 81, verse 26:
Then where are you going? (At-Takwir 81:26)
Can a blind man lead you from one place to another? You need to focus.
--Money, technology & pleasure of the Flesh is what the Kuffar want.
--Every decision made by the Kaafir is to satisfy their pocket & their private parts.
--The Muslims do it for the sake of Allah.
--Whereas the Kaafir ask, what is in it for me..?
--The Muslims believe in Fee Sabi Lilllah.
There is no free lunch in daar ul Harb
--if a Man takes you to lunch it means he wants something from you.
--If you study in an Islamic University, they teach you etiquettes.
--They teach you not to take bribe, even if its dinner.
--They gave Shaikh Faisal 100 etiquettes for a shaikh
The blind kuffar:
--so, Allah said these Kuffar are blind why? because of their evil desires.
--Arrogance makes you go blind.
--When a person is arrogant, they can’t see clearly.
--When the Prophet (pbuh) entered the City they changed the name of Madinah
--because the Prophet (pbuh) bought knowledge to the City.
--so the city was changed from Yatrib to Madinah (City of Light)
--Al Madinah al Munoor (City of Light)
--knowledge is noor, whereas Jahil, Kufr, Shirk, arrogance and ignorance are darkness
--Just like the Americans were said to not go in to Afghanistan & yet
--they were arrogant & ignorant & they sent their troops
--because of their ultimate blindness.
--so Allah makes them blind & to make matters worse Allah said, we beautify for them their deeds
--they can justify why they are homosexuals, why they are atheist, why they gamble, etc...
Who is the REAL blind man?
--hence the real blind man is the one who is blind in heart & not eyes.
--Abdullah ibn Makhtoom is an example; he was a cousin of Khadijah and also blind
--but also, after he took Shahadah, he went to jihad, as a blind man, without any excuses
--yet the kuffar say today the Mujahideen are Khawarijj
An-Naml 27:6 And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are receiving the Qur'ân from the One, All-Wise, All-Knowing
Who taught whom?
--Allah tala is the one who taught Prophet (pbuh) to recite the Qur’ân properly through Angel Jibreel
--The Prophet's shaikh was Angel Jibreel and Angel Jibreel's was Allah tala
--Everyone with knowledge there is always someone with more knowledge, Surah 12, verse 26:
--The only one with no Teacher/Shaikh is ALLAH Himself!
Yusuf 12:76 But over all those endowed with knowledge is the All-Knowing (Allâh).
So when Allah said, ‘you are learning the Qur’ân, is the All Wise & Knowing,’ that was Allah, Himself!
--and when Prophet (pbuh) was acquiring knowledge from Jibreel
--he used to be enthused & he would be in haste...
--Prophet (pbuh) was filled with zeal & enthusiasm to seek the knowledge.
Allah swt revealed Al-Qiyma 75:16-19 Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it. (16) Lo! upon Us (resteth) the putting together thereof and the reading thereof. (17) And when We read it, follow thou the reading; (18) Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof. (19)
So Allah said, “Wait, listen & then recite after Him”
The Ayah teaches us Adab.
This is called Islamic Adab, taught to Prophet (pbuh) by Allah Himself.
An-Naml 27:7 (Remember) when Mûsa (Moses) said to his household: "Verily! I have seen a fire, I will bring you from there some information, or I will bring you a burning brand, that you may warm yourselves." This was the Daughter of Shuaib, in a place called median where the father said take care of my Sheep & I will marry you my daughter. But when he came to it, he was called: "Blessed is whosoever is in the fire, and whosoever is round about it! And glorified be Allâh, the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). Says the Musa was brave to check out the Fire & he even said to bring some back for his wife, so she can be warm with Allah spoke to Musa by the burning bush & allowed Musa to hear His voice. 27:8
Believe what we can’t conceive
--so it is a part of our creed to believe that Allah spoke to Musa.
--the Mutazalites & the Jabriyya don’t want to believe that Allah spoke to Musa
--they deny Allah's attribute that He speaks
Khalid Ibn Abdullah al Kasri
--he was the governor of Khorasan who said,
--“Bring out your people to sacrifice because I am bringing my sacrifice”
--his sacrifice was Jaa'd ibn Dirham who said:
--Allah did not speak to Musa @ the burning bush or Mt Sinai
--Jaaa’d rejected faith in Al-Baqarah 2:253
Surah Baqarah 2:253 Those Messengers! We preferred some to others; to some of them Allâh spoke (directly); others He raised to degrees (of honour); and to 'Iesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), We gave clear proofs and evidences, and supported him with Rûh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)].
--so the Ameer of Khorasan had no choice but to chop off his head & did it on Eid Day
--Why did Khalid Ibn Abdullah al Kasri take this action?
--because he was the Ameer & he had to take the step to show the people al-haqq.
An-Naml 27:9 "O Mûsa (Moses)! Verily! It is I, Allâh, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
Allah’s use of attributes:
--why did Allah use these 2 attributes together in the Qur’ân, i.e All-Mighty & All-Wise?
--because the Scholars say these 2 Attributes should go together
--because 1 attribute perfects the other attribute.
Might without wisdom is a recipe for disaster ~ Shaikh Faisal
The Prophet (pbuh) signed the peace treaty with Qureshi
--even the companions could not understand with this
--the Prophet (pbuh) did this because he was Wise
--Allah said the Qur’ân is the book but the Sunnah is the Hikmah
“Yesterday, a Surah was revealed to me that is better than this life and everything in it: “Verily, We have given you (O Muhammad) a manifest victory.” (This has been related by Bukhari, Nasai’, and Tirmidhi)
Hikmah means to do the right thing at the right time on the right place.
He grants Hikmah to whom He pleases, and he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good. But none remember (will receive admonition) except men of understanding.
Allah says about Wisdom (Hikma) in Surah Baqara 2:269 is that he, the Prophet (pbuh) was very wise.
Umar Khattab said, “Give me permission to chop off their (hypocrites) heads
When the Angel came to Prophet (pbuh) & informed him of the names of the Hypocrites, the Prophet (pbuh) said: do you want people to say that I gave permission to kill my companions?
This was the proof of Prophet (pbuh) being wise.
An-Naml 27:10 "And throw down your stick!" But when he saw it moving as if it were a snake, he turned in flight, and did not look back. (It was said): "O Mûsa (Moses)! Fear not, verily! The Messengers fear not in front of Me.
Al-Qasas 28:15 And he entered the city at a time of unawareness of its people, and he found there two men fighting, - one of his party (his religion - from the Children of Israel), and the other of his foes. The man of his (own) party asked him for help against his foe, so Mûsa (Moses) struck him with his fist and killed him. He said: "This is of Shaitan’s (Satan) doing, verily, he is a plain misleading enemy."
Snakes in the Quran
--it is natural instinct to be afraid of the snake because they are our enemy
--why did Musa run, even though he was strong because it's our natural instinct to be afraid of them.
--Al Bidayah wa Nihaya by Ibn Kathir: for those who can understand Arabic is a perfect book
--it includes Tafseer of Imam Qurtabi.
The Prophet (pbuh) has commanded us to kill snakes wherever you are in the World
--there are snakes, if they see a Child, they will swallow a Child
--a child in Romania who was brought up by a Dog.
--so a Dog will not kill a Child but a snake will
--the Snake was the only animal that permitted Iblis to help him against Adam
--Adam was in Heaven NOT Paradise.
Paradise or Heaven?
--because Ridwaan (Angel of Paradise) said:
--I was given the order NOT to open the door of Paradise before Prophet (pbuh).
Their reward with their Lord is 'Adn (Eden) Paradise (Gardens of Eternity), underneath which rivers flow, they will abide therein forever, Allâh Well-Pleased with them, and they with Him. That is for him who fears his Lord.
Do not make the mistake that Paradise & Heaven are the same thing.
--When you go to paradise you will not be thrown out.
--Whereas Adam & Eve were thrown out of Heaven.
The Shaytaan has influence in Heaven but NOT in Paradise.
"And throw down your stick!" But when he saw it moving as if it were a snake, he turned in flight, and did not look back. (It was said): "O Mûsa (Moses)! Fear not, verily! The Messengers fear not in front of Me.
Musa and the snake:
--Musa ran so fast from the snake that he didn’t look back
--because it’s our natural instinct to be afraid of Snake
--once a Sahabah came home & his wife was outside, not dressed in modesty & he was angry on her
--so he asked her, "Why are you not properly dressed?"
--she said, “Go in the house and see”
--He went in & saw a big snake & killed it, but he died as well.
--Why? Because the snake was a Jinn and he should have checked it out by saying three times:
--“Audhubillah” and if the snake didn’t leave on its own, they he should have killed it
An-Naml 27:11 "Except him who has done wrong and afterwards has changed evil for good, then surely, I am Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. "And put your hand into your bosom, it will come forth white without hurt. (These are) among the nine signs (you will take) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his people, they are a people who are the Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh). (An-Naml 27:12) pharaoh was the biggest Atheist in the World & yet in his heart he knew Allah is Lord... so there is no such thing as Atheist, they are lying. As mentioned in Surah Naml 27:14
Musa was hesitant to go there because Pharaoh was there & he was brought up by him:
--given shelter, food, care, nurturing and yet Musa killed a solider of the Pharaoh
An-Naml 27:13 But when Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) came to them, clear to see, they said: "This is a manifest magic." And they belied them (those Ayât) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ayât) are from Allâh, and Mûsa (Moses) is the Messenger of Allâh in truth, but they disliked to obey Mûsa (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsidûn (disbelievers, disobedient to Allâh, evil-doers, liars.). (An-Naml 27:14)
That man who was killed by Musa was a Solider so Pharaoh said,
“Musa must die” but someone overheard the conversation & informed Musa.
What did Prophet Musa do?
--Musa ran away immediately
--Why did Musa run away without any question?
--Because a Word to the Wise is Sufficient!!!
--If only the Americans knew this they would not have been stuck today in Afghanistan
--without any light at the end of the Tunnel!
Musa went to get water for the girls at the well because they were shy
--one of the girls invited him to their home
--and Musa went with them to meet their Father & the girls informed their father that he is a good man
--A woman can recognize a good man if she has Taqwa
--If a woman is jahil without Taqwa, she will never be able to recognize a good man
--A Jahil woman will fall in love with any other man...
--hence a woman needs a wali to check the man out whom she wishes to marry
--If the Wali rejects the marriage due to his evil character, you have to listen to the wali
--if you marry that man, your marriage is BAUTIL
