-74- Yusuf & Zulaikha Vol. 3

Tafseer Surah Yusuf: Yusuf and Zulaikha – Volume 3
by Shaikh Abdullah Faisal

(evening dars: 6.11.11)

Recapping: we are covering the story of Yusuf and Zulaikha
--we said that ALLAH has told us that Yusuf was able to abstain from zina because he was a sincere servant

There’s 2 types of sincere people:
those who are sincere and the follow the correct creed
those who are sincere but have the wrong creed

Zina
--those who do zina are not successful:
--they are not successful financially
--they are not successful physically because of STDs
--they are not successful mentally - they have emotional problems
--they are not successful spiritually: NO ONE will pray behind an imam who commits zina
--these men end up as lonely old men
--because when these men were young, they did not practice nikkah
--any society that has zina also has murder
--if you seduce a man’s wife or daughter or sister: that man will kill you
--Muslims have jealousy over their women
--and murder and zina goes hand in hand

We mentioned that sexual harassment at the workplace is not just from men,
but from women, as well

The story of Yusuf and Zulaikha
--is a story of sexual harassment, not fatal attraction
--because no one died and fatal attraction involves death
--ALLAH said : "She tore his shirt from the back"
--Yusuf was running away from zina (a woman can be a tigress in the bedroom)
--a woman in the bedroom can match your zeal
--Zulaikha was the tigress in this story

We relate unto you (Muhammad SAW) the best of stories through Our Revelations unto you, of this Qur'an. And before this (i.e. before the coming of Divine Inspiration to you), you were among those who knew nothing about it (the Qur'an). (Yusuf 12:3)

So they raced with one another to the door and she tore his shirt from the back. (Yusuf 12:25)

What men want:
--they want a woman is an angel outside the home (hijab, niqaab etc)
--they want an excellent chef and they want a tigress in the bedroom
--they want an angel outside the home, a [woman who cooks like his mother] in the kitchen and
--a tigress in the bedroom = combo of all three things
--some people think that Muslim women are boring, so they go chasing kaafir women
--the truth is you don’t need to go chasing kaafir women because
--Muslim women do not disappoint in the bedroom
-- you also need to practice al walaa wal baraa
--practice al walaa wal baraa by seeking your own [a Muslim girl]
--you cannot marry pagan girls unless you give them Shahadah **

So they raced with one another to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back. They both found her lord (i.e. her husband) at the door. She said: "What is the recompense (punishment) for him who intended an evil design against your wife, except that he be put in prison or a painful torment?" (Yusuf 12:25)

Lesson from ayah 25
--whenever a person gets into trouble, they always shift the blame to someone else
--the holy Quran is the ultimate history, sociology, psychology book
--yet you will never appreciate it until you are given the tafseer of the Quran
--fiqh is also Qur'an and we can't be lop-sided Muslims
--Ibn Taymiyyah is the Shaikh of Islam = he studied everything
--don’t be like Hizbut Tahrir: they just pat attention to politics and forget about tawheed
--don’t be like the Deobandis who have wrong aqeeda and believe that ALLAH is everywhere
--some people are jahil in regards to aqeeda, they believe that democracy and Islam are the same thing

and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah. (Aali Imran 3:102)

And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad SAW), as it was to those (Allah's Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers." (Az-Zumar 39:65)

He [Yûsuf (Joseph)] said: "It was she that sought to seduce me," - and a witness of her household bore witness (saying): "If it be that his shirt is torn from the front, then her tale is true and he is a liar! (Yusuf 12:26)

Blaming
--when the woman said: He was the one who tried to seduce me...she shifted the blame to Yusuf
--Yusuf did not keep quiet, he defended himself; he protested his innocence
--according to Shariah, if you are accused of being gay or lesbian and you keep quiet, that means you are one
--if you keep quiet, then you have given your consent according to Shariah law
--Yusuf protested his innocence
--this shows us that your character (honor: izza) is sacred

You have 6 sacred things
1. life
2. wealth
3. honor
4. aql
5. lineage
6. deen

Yusuf defended his honor
-- he said: "she is the one who sought to seduce me "
-- whenever you are accused of something, you should challenge the person
--you should say wallahi 3 times and call down the curse of ALLAH upon yourself
--and you ask the person who accused you to do the same thing
--if he cannot, then this is a sign he is a munafiqh (this is to prove your innocence)

"But if it be that his shirt is torn from the back, then she has told a lie and he is speaking the truth!" (Yusuf 12:27)

So when he (her husband) saw his [(Yûsuf's (Joseph)] shirt torn at the back; (her husband) said: "Surely, it is a plot of you women! Certainly mighty is your plot! (Yusuf 12:28)

The shirt was torn from the back, which means that Zulaikha was the one lying
--it was torn from the back because Yusuf was running away from zina
-- the Rasul said :"anytime a man and a woman is alone, the third person there is Satan"

And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. (Al-Isra 17:32)

-- ALLAH did not say "don’t commit zina" but He said do not even come NEAR to zina

“Whenever a man is alone with a woman, Satan (Shaytan) is the third among them.” (Tirmidhi)

How can one come near zina? by being locked up alone behind closed doors with a woman

Sisters:

--don’t go on dates; there’s a chance you’ll be a victim of date rape
--if a man wants an interview, take your wali with you
--if someone wants to meet you at a certain location, always try to bring backup

So, when they took him away, they all agreed to throw him down to the bottom of the well, and We inspired in him: "Indeed, you shall (one day) inform them of this their affair, when they know (you) not." (Yusuf 12:15)

Yusuf's own siblings dumped him into the well, so if ones own siblings can do that to him, what makes you think you can go meet people by your self?

And women in the city said: "The wife of Al-'Aziz is seeking to seduce her (slave) young man, indeed she loves him violently; verily we see her in plain error." (Yusuf 12:30)

"O Yûsuf (Joseph)! Turn away from this! (O woman!) Ask forgiveness for your sin. Verily, you were of the sinful." (Yusuf 12:29)

Ayah 29 tells you that the people in Egypt knew about ALLAH
--the Aziz was commanding the woman to make Tauba

And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah)."(An-Nahl 16:36)

-- this story even tells you of the fitnah of having a housemaid or a yard-boy
-- >> even in the time of the Prophet, a woman went to bed with his servant boy

In Islam if you did something haraam, and you didn’t know it was haraam, the Shariah court cannot touch you >> Umar did not stone the woman to death who slept with her servant boy, she was jahil
>> this shows you the mercy of Islam
--but if daar ul harb, or kufr, the kuffar have no mercy, they say ignorance is not an excuse
--and they will punish you-

>> the woman during the time of Umar thought that woman could also have concubines just like men
--but she was jahil about this therefore Umar did not punish her
--in daar ul harb, if you did a crime out of ignorance, they will punish you, they have no mercy in their hearts

And women in the city said: "The wife of Al-'Aziz is seeking to seduce her (slave) young man, indeed she loves him violently; verily we see her in plain error." (Yusuf 12:30)

Here we can learn that women love to gossip, and that if a woman has an affair she will tell her best friend
(the affair becomes more exciting when she tells her best friend)

>> A kaafir is secular, they will say "if you committed zina in a 5 star hotel, that relationship is kosher"
>> similarly, the women in the city had a problem with Zulaikha's relation
--because they thought her affair was not befitting for her status

So when she heard of their accusation, she sent for them and prepared a banquet for them; she gave each one of them a knife (to cut the foodstuff with), and she said [(to Yûsuf (Joseph)]: "Come out before them."

Then, when they saw him, they exalted him (at his beauty) and (in their astonishment) cut their hands. They said: "How perfect is Allah (or Allah forbid)! No man is this! This is none other than a noble angel!" (Yusuf 12:31)

--they thought that, had Zulaikha slept with someone on her status, the affair would have been kosher
--Zulaikha heard that these women were gossiping

>> the person wanted to see Zulaikha’s reaction -- so when someone tells you bad news,
--you can know that they are curious to see your reaction

Why did the women gossip against Zulaikha?
--their aim and objective was to prove the point that they are better than Zulaikha
-- 'we don’t sleep with our servants'

So when she heard of their accusation, she sent for them and prepared a banquet for them; she gave each one of them a knife (to cut the foodstuff with), and she said [(to Yûsuf (Joseph)]: "Come out before them." Then, when they saw him, they exalted him (at his beauty) and (in their astonishment) cut their hands. They said: "How perfect is Allah (or Allah forbid)! No man is this! This is none other than a noble angel!" (Yusuf 12:31)

They were not slandering Zulaikha
-- but they were only backbiting
--had they lied about her, then it would have been slander
--because she did indeed want to go to bed with Yusuf

>> 12:31 the women cut their hands continuously, blood was all over the floor
--so Zulaikha had the last laugh

She said: "This is he (the young man) about whom you did blame me (for his love), and I did seek to seduce him, but he refused. And now if he refuses to obey my order, he shall certainly be cast into prison, and will be one of those who are disgraced." (Yusuf 12:32)

--the lesson you learn here: women get excited when they see handsome men,
--when they see handsome men they cannot control themselves
--they should always have mahram
-- another lesson you learn is that women also lust after men

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) (An-Nur 24:31)

Another lesson: beauty and handsomeness are a fitnah, in all times

A fitnah yesterday, a fitnah today, and it shall be a fitnah tomorrow
>> the Rasul said : the biggest fitnah I've left behind is the fitnah of women
>> even the cia, fbi, etc. use beautiful women to spy and get information
If you have a weakness for kaafir women, you are finished, you must practice al walaa wal baraa

“I have not left behind me any fitnah more harmful to men than women.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

An Iraqi scientist gave up a nuclear reactor to the Jews because the Jews brought him pretty girls
--he sold out (don’t go for kaafir women, or women who are hypocrites)
--you should only be attracted to women who wear hijab

Lesson: beauty and handsomeness is a fitnah, in all times
<< the kaafirs they know this and they use it to their advantage

A woman who is pretty, and she knows that she is beautiful , and that woman has no taqwa
<< this woman is the shaitan in human form
<< a lot of women sleep with their bosses to rise up ; they use their beauty to their advantage

Zulaikha said that
--if Yusuf does not go to bed with me, I will put him in prison
--she told this to the women
--this declared this publicly

Another lesson:
--the female ego does not accept no for an answer
--because of that, women do not propose normally, because usually they cannot cope with rejection
--they become spiteful and revengeful when they get no for an answer
--example; a woman proposed to Michael Manley [UK] and Manley refused the proposal
--the woman dumped his political party and joined up with the opponent party
--and criticized all of Manley’s policies

"hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"

>> therefore Zulaikha declared that she will throw Yusuf in prison if he does not accept her proposal

Women can't cope with rejection; neither can some men
--some men have fatal attraction: if I cant have you, ill kill you
--or ill kill you and your lover
--Zulaikha had a high status in the society, therefore she was surprised that a servant boy (Yusuf) rejected her
--she could not accept this

She said: "This is he (the young man) about whom you did blame me (for his love), and I did seek to seduce him, but he refused. And now if he refuses to obey my order, he shall certainly be cast into prison, and will be one of those who are disgraced." (Yusuf 12:32)

He said: “O my Lord! Prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. Unless You turn away their plot from me, I will feel inclined towards them and be one (of those who commit sin and deserve blame or those who do deeds) of the ignorants." (Yusuf 12:33)

What was the response of Yusuf? was it:
--"I cant afford to go to prison, I cant give up this luxury.."
--Did he say any of this?

He said: “O my Lord! Prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. Unless You turn away their plot from me, I will feel inclined towards them and be one (of those who commit sin and deserve blame or those who do deeds) of the ignorants." (Yusuf 12:33)

His response >> 12:33
Yusuf made the point : adultery is NOT an option [he would rather go to prison]
--zina is for people who are jahil-- therefore Yusuf would rather go to prison and sleep rough and eat badly
--than go through all the hardship rather than to sleep with Zulaikha

So his Lord answered his invocation and turned away from him their plot. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (Yusuf 12:34)

Then it appeared to them, after they had seen the proofs (of his innocence) to imprison him for a time. (Yusuf 12:35)

Yusuf was sent to prison because Zulaikha wanted revenge
--"hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"
--he was also sent for prison to make it appear that Zulaikha was innocent and Yusuf was guilty
--this happens today, as there are many innocent people without charge in prisons today
--Half of the people in Guantanamo Bay are innocent (they are being held without charge)
--anytime a person goes to prison and they are innocent, we say that they are in the madrassa of Yusuf
--but if you go to prison for rape or murder, then you are not in the madrassa of Yusuf
--because you did something haraam

And there entered with him two young men in the prison. One of them said: "Verily, I saw myself (in a dream) pressing wine." The other said: "Verily, I saw myself (in a dream) carrying bread on my head and birds were eating thereof." (They said): "Inform us of the interpretation of this. Verily, we think you are one of the Muhsinûn (Yusuf 12:36)

You can expect the majority of the prison population to be young men
--esp when you are young and naive, you do not care about life, you do stupid things
--in daar ul harb, they have a huge prison population
--the new slave plantations are the prisons
--in America, the gora [white man] wants to arrest as many black males as possible
--the new slavery is the prison population
--slavery was never abolished
--it just took on a different form, to please and appease the human rights activists
--the kuffar will even send you to jail for a parking ticket
--they do not believe in reforming people,
--they will send you to prison for the smallest crime you can commit
--in prisons, the prisoners are forced to make clothes amongst other items
--the more you arrest and place people in prisons,
--the more workers you have for certain businesses
--Prison is a money making business, everyone involved makes money
--therefore the more prisoners you have, the more business goes up
--everyone makes money from the prison system, its a multi billion dollar business
--2 men were in prison with the Yusuf and
--they asked for the interpretation of their dreams

And there entered with him two young men in the prison. One of them said: "Verily, I saw myself (in a dream) pressing wine." The other said: "Verily, I saw myself (in a dream) carrying bread on my head and birds were eating thereof." (They said): "Inform us of the interpretation of this. Verily, we think you are one of the Muhsinûn (doers of good) (Yusuf 12:36)

The lesson you learn from this ayah is that
--the kuffar can have true dreams
--the pagan prisoners did not go to kaafirs for interpretation of their dreams
--but they went to a pious man, Yusuf
--therefore you should only approach pious people to interpret dreams for you
--and also, do not even tell your dreams to people who are not pious
--these are the lessons one may learn from this ayah
--do not approach evil people to interpret dreams, even the kaafir knows this

He said: "No food will come to you (in wakefulness or in dream) as your provision, but I will inform (in wakefulness) its interpretation before it (the food) comes. This is of that which my Lord has taught me. Verily, I have abandoned the religion of a people that believe not in Allah and are disbelievers in the Hereafter (i.e. the Kan'aniûn of Egypt who were polytheists and used to worship sun and other false deities). (Yusuf 12:37)

Yusuf did not praise himself for the knowledge, he gave all praise to ALLAH

"And I have followed the religion of my fathers[], - Ibrahim (Abraham), Ishaque (Isaac) and Ya'qûb (Jacob), and never could we attribute any partners whatsoever to Allah. This is from the Grace of Allah to us and to mankind, but most men thank not (i.e. they neither believe in Allah, nor worship Him). (Yusuf 12:38)

Yusuf told the prisoners that his father is Jacob,
--his grandfather is Isaac, and his great grandfather is Abraham
--therefore he did not follow the evil people in society, he came from a righteous lineage
--before Yusuf interpreted the dreams, he invited the prisoners to tawheed

"O two companions of the prison! Are many different lords (gods) better or Allah, the One, the Irresistible? (Yusuf 12:39)

Tawheed rububiyyah = this ayah refers to this [there is only one Rabb]

"You do not worship besides Him but only names which you have named (forged), you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command (or the judgment) is for none but Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him (i.e. His Monotheism), that is the (true) straight religion, but most men know not. (Yusuf 12:40)

Tawheed al-Asmaa-was-Sifaat:
> ayat 40 refers to ALLAH's names >> refers to tawheed asma wa sifat
>> Yusuf said : the command and judgment belongs to none other than ALLAH >> tawheed hakimiyya

Yusuf said: ALLAH has commanded that you worship none but ALLAH > tawheed ibadah

The MADkhalis /Saudi Salafis are trying to get rid of tawheed hakimiyya
--they cement the thrones of the apostate rulers, they are guilty of making up their own Islam
--they are zindeeq
--those who make up their own Islam = zindeeq (heretic)

Ibn Taymiyyah said: And it is known from the religion (of Islam) by necessity and by the consensus of all Muslims that whoever legalizes to follow other than the religion of Islam or a Sharia other than the Sharia of Muhammad (SAW), he is a Kaafir. And his kufr is similar to that of the one who believes in some part of the book (Quran) and reject some of it. Majmua Al-Fataawa: Vol 28, p. 524.

Those who say tawheed has only 3 categories

--they say dismantling the Sharia is minor kufr
--we say they are hypocrites because they claim to follow ibn Kathir and ibn Taymiyyah
--they go against their fatwas that say dismantling the Sharia makes your a kaafir

Say (O Muhammad SAW to the people of the Scripture): "Shall I inform you of something worse than that, regarding the recompense from Allah: those (Jews) who incurred the Curse of Allah and His Wrath, those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swines, those who worshipped Taghût (false deities); such are worse in rank (on the Day of Resurrection in the Hell¬fire), and far more astray from the Right Path (in the life of this world)." (Al-Ma'idah 5:60)
