-76- Lessons from Surah Yusuf

Tafseer Surah Yusuf: Lessons from Surah Yusuf
by Shaikh Abdullah Faisal

(evening dars: 6.12.11)

And women in the city said: "The wife of Al-'Aziz is seeking to seduce her (slave) young man, indeed she loves him violently; verily we see her in plain error." (Yusuf 12:30)

Lesson from this ayah:
--women like to gossip
--any gossip which is s-xual in nature, is spreads like wildfire
--the women weren't complaining about Zulaikha’s affair but WHOM she chose to have the affair
--had it been someone on Zulaikha's level, they would have thought it was kosher for her to have that affair

So when she heard of their accusation, she sent for them and prepared a banquet for them; she gave each one of them a knife (to cut the foodstuff with), and she said [(to Yûsuf (Joseph)]: "Come out before them." Then, when they saw him, they exalted him (at his beauty) and (in their astonishment) cut their hands. They said: "How perfect is Allah (or Allah forbid)! No man is this! This is none other than a noble angel!" (Yusuf 12:31)

Zulaikha prepared a banquet
--for the women and gave them a knife to cut their food
--they thought he was so beautiful and were not paying attention so they cut their hands
--they were laughing and gossiping and thinking they are better than Zulaikha

Lesson:
--beauty and handsomeness are big fitnahs
--Allah used the word ( Qatta`na ) >>> they repeated to cut their hands
--if you have wealth, beauty, power and ilm but have no taqwah, you become a shaitan on the land
--you will make haraam, halal
--Allah tala gives the mulk [power] to whom He pleases

Lessons:
--women lust as men do
--if a woman is in the company of a handsome man, they become weak in the knees
--Allah tala told even women to lower their gaze

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) (An-Nur 24:32)

--he who laughs last, laughs the best [Zulaikha had the last laugh]
--women understand women [na'am, we do]
--men understand women better!
--men are experts w/ women because they are obsessed with women
--private parts were even discovered by a male doctor

More lessons:
--instinctively, we believe angels are more handsome than us
--the friends of Zulaikha thought Yusuf was an angel from above
--the people of Egypt and they knew about Allah tala and His angels (so they had some tawheed)

And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah)." (An-Nahl 16:36)

"O Yûsuf (Joseph)! Turn away from this! (O woman!) Ask forgiveness for your sin. Verily, you were of the sinful." (Yusuf 12:29)

She said: "This is he (the young man) about whom you did blame me (for his love), and I did seek to seduce him, but he refused. And now if he refuses to obey my order, he shall certainly be cast into prison, and will be one of those who are disgraced." (Yusuf 12:32)

Zulaikha had an element of honesty about her [she confessed]
--women can not cope w/ rejection [gracefully]
--men are more capable

Umar panicked but Ali didn't
--when a women accused a man of rape (Ali had hot water poured between the legs of the woman who had really broken eggs between her legs to hide her lie - the hot water revealed if the white part of the egg was semen or false [it was egg/false]
--this woman was spurned (rejected) and Zulaikha was also spurned
--the female ego was punctured
--"hell has no fury as a woman who is scorned"

Zulaikha demanded he come to bed w/ her
--or she would dump Yusuf in prison
--the other women wanted to go to bed w/ him, as well
--if they all committed zina, then they are partners in crime and "shhhhhhhhh"
--this ayah proves that when you have a servant in the house,
--that servant can become fitnah if the servant is handsome or beautiful
--all over the world, people sleep with their servants

Adolph Hitler:
--his mother was a Jew and he didn't know this: it is said he killed 6 million Jews
--so it's not in the best interest of Muslims to deny the Holocaust
--people who have no knowledge of the deen will commit zina
--when you speak the haqq, you must not do anything haraam: your dawah will fail

He said: "O my Lord! Prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. Unless You turn away their plot from me, I will feel inclined towards them and be one (of those who commit sin and deserve blame or those who do deeds) of the ignorants." (Yusuf 12:33)

Other lessons:
--a woman who is not spiritual can have zina on her mind
--if you work in an office or factory, sis, if your needs are not met by your husband:
--you leave the door open to have an affair
--Zulaikha chose the wrong person because no prophet ever committed zina

So his Lord answered his invocation and turned away from him their plot. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (Yusuf 12:34)

Then it appeared to them, after they had seen the proofs (of his innocence) to imprison him for a time. (Yusuf 12:35)

And there entered with him two young men in the prison. One of them said: "Verily, I saw myself (in a dream) pressing wine." The other said: "Verily, I saw myself (in a dream) carrying bread on my head and birds were eating thereof." (They said): "Inform us of the interpretation of this. Verily, we think you are one of the Muhsinûn (doers of good) (Yusuf 12:36)

Lessons:
--the higher the testosterone, the higher the crime rate
--when you are handsome, you're a fitnah for yourself
--when you are pretty, you are a fitnah for yourself
--so hide your beauty, sisters!

The 3 opinions on niqaab:
1) Sunnah (al Bani)
2) Fard (bin Baaz)
3) it is fard IF the girl is pretty

--your beauty can be your own downfall
--Yusuf was dumped in prison because of his own handsomeness

"Whenever a man is alone with a woman the Devil makes a third." Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi 3118

The pagans in prison w/ Yusuf who had a dream went to Yusuf for the interpretation

Lesson:
--a kaafir knows who is a good Muslim
--a kaafir will say, "My neighbor is a Muslim etc ..... and eh doesn't drink alcohol or sleep around like you"
--they notice who is a real Muslim and who is a fake Muslim
--the pagans in prison w/ Yusuf said "we see you as a good man"
--so the kuffar know who is fake or real [Muslim]

He said: "No food will come to you (in wakefulness or in dream) as your provision, but I will inform (in wakefulness) its interpretation before it (the food) comes. This is of that which my Lord has taught me. Verily, I have abandoned the religion of a people that believe not in Allah and are disbelievers in the Hereafter (i.e. the Kan'aniûn of Egypt who were polytheists and used to worship sun and other false deities). (Yusuf 12:37)

Yusuf wasn't bragging: he said what I know comes from Allah 'tala
--the kuffar say, 'when you go to Rome, act like they do there"
--Muslims don't believe in that: "FEAR ALLAH WHEREVER YOU MAY BE"
--paganism was rife is Egypt (rife - abundant)

Lesson:
--have a strong personality
--be like Yusuf

In Jamaica, people like to use weed:
--do we expect Shaikh to follow the crowd?
--the majority of people will always be the evil ones
--we believe in Qur'an and Sunnah (not majority)

"And I have followed the religion of my fathers[], - Ibrahim (Abraham), Ishaque (Isaac) and Ya'qûb (Jacob), and never could we attribute any partners whatsoever to Allah. This is from the Grace of Allah to us and to mankind, but most men thank not (i.e. they neither believe in Allah, nor worship Him). (Yusuf 12:38)

Yusuf explained his circumstance: I am innocent
--he said he had a noble lineage
--Yusuf told the prisoners that his father is Jacob, his grandfather is Isaac
--and his great grandfather is Abraham

And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly. (Yusuf 12:103)

Our desires are dangerous
--don't under estimate them
--see 23:71

And if the truth had been in accordance with their desires, verily, the heavens and the earth, and whosoever is therein would have been corrupted! Nay, We have brought them their reminder, but they turn away from their reminder. (Al-Mu'minun 23:71)

Evil (sins and disobedience of Allah, etc.) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds, etc.), that Allah may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allah, and begging His Pardon). (Ar-Rum 30:41)

Cows were made to eat grass
--but the UK turned them into eating meat, so they had MADCOW disease
--this is an example of corruption
--then came FOOT and MOUTH disease
--then STDs
--STDs = transmitted diseases via s-x

The pagans in prison wanted Yusuf to interpret their dream
--Yusuf gave them dawah before he interpreted their dreams
--he invited them to tawheed

Lesson:
--grab the opportunity w/ both hands to invite them to tawheed
--when you're in the company of a kaafir and he approaches you for advice:
--tell them to return to Allah tala
--you have financial problems because you have 10 girlfriends
--you're living in the fast lane
--THEY COME TO YOU, THE MUSLIM, FOR ADVICE because they know we have answers
--they didn't go to another, they come to us
--the three types of believers: muslim - mu'min - muhsin

Lesson:
--when kaafir approaches us for advice (sincerity), grab the opportunity to present them tawheed
--kaafirs have no sincerity so they come to us for advice
--in kufrdom, there is no trust

When Yusuf was in prison, he taught 4 tawheeds
"O two companions of the prison! Are many different lords (gods) better or Allah, the One, the Irresistible? (Yusuf 12:39)

:39 there is only one Rabb = "Tawheed rububiyyah"

"You do not worship besides Him but only names which you have named (forged), you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command (or the judgment) is for none but Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him (i.e. His Monotheism), that is the (true) straight religion, but most men know not. (Yusuf 12:40)

:40 = Yusuf complained about the names the pagans use to describe him: Tawheed Asma wa Sifaat

The Saudi Salafis like to dispute Shaikh's credentials
:40 = Yusuf complained about the names the pagans use to describe him:
Tawheed Asma wa Sifaat

"You do not worship besides Him but only names which you have named (forged), you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command (or the judgment) is for none but Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him (i.e. His Monotheism), that is the (true) straight religion, but most men know not. (Yusuf 12:40)

There is no law-giver other than Allah tala: Tawheed Hakimiyya

ALLAH has commanded that you worship none but ALLAH: Tawheed Ibaadah

Tawheed Hakimiyya is the twin cousin of Tawheed Ibaadah [Muhammad Ibrahim, Ruling by the Law]

“those (Jews) who incurred the Curse of Allah and His Wrath, those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swines, those who worshipped Taghut (false deities); such are worse in rank (on the Day of Resurrection in the Hell¬fire), and far more astray from the Right Path (in the life of this world)." (Al-Ma'idah 5:60)

Lesson:

--prison is a fertile ground to spread the dawah
--so Yusuf took the opportunity

"O two companions of the prison! As for one of you, he (as a servant) will pour out wine for his lord (king or master) to drink; and as for the other, he will be crucified and birds will eat from his head. Thus is the case judged concerning which you both did inquire." (Yusuf 12:41)

Interpretation of dreams:

1. one will be found guilty and 2. one will be innocent

And he said to the one whom he knew to be saved: "Mention me to your lord (i.e. your king, so as to get me out of the prison)." But Shaitan (Satan) made him forget to mention it to his Lord [or Satan made [(Yûsuf (Joseph)]

to forget the remembrance of his Lord (Allah) as to ask for His Help, instead of others]. So [Yûsuf (Joseph)] stayed in prison a few (more) years. (Yusuf 12:42)

Yusuf stayed in prison for a few more years, because the man forgot to mention Yusuf to the Pharaoh
