-83- Islamic Psychology: Introduction

Islamic Psychology: Introduction
by Shaikh Abdullah Faisal

(evening dars: 6.16.11)

Human beings have 5 basic needs
--Muslims and kuffar alike have them

1. Spiritual needs
--need to worship something, you are a slave to Allah

So set you (O Muhammad) your face towards the religion (of pure Islamic Monotheism) Hanif (worship none but Allah Alone). Allah's Fitrah (i.e. Allah's Islamic Monotheism) with which He has created mankind. Al-Room 30:30

--30:30 is hujjah to worship Allah, and if you do not worship Allah, you will worship others

--fitrah - your natural instinct to worship ALLAH alone, we were all created this fitrah
--fitrah is natural instinct given by ALLAH,
--parents polluted it by making humans worship others

O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds) Al-Tawba 9:119

--be in the company of good people in order to be righteous
--do not be in the company of those who make a mockery of Quran and Sunnah
--they may even have Muslim names
--don’t be in company of those that mock the Quran and Sunnah
--you will end up as a munafiqh like them
--it is haraam to visit websites that mock our Deen
--4:140 is the hujjah for that claim

And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Qur'an) that when you hear the Verses of Allah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allah will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell. An-Nisa 4:140

--to be in those websites is a grave error for you
--it will destroy you spiritually and it might lead you to apostate from Islam
--many Muslims have apostated because they found themselves in gatherings
--which destroyed them spiritually

O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds). 9:119

Recapping steps towards becoming spiritually healthy

1) company of the muttaqoon

--Imam Ahmed said don’t seat with deviants, you might become

2) join a regular study circle from a sincere scholar

There’s 3 types of scholars: wicked scholar, sinful scholar and a sincere scholar
--sinful scholar might drink alcohol
--wicked scholar changes the deen
--sincere scholar follows Quran and Sunnah
--wicked scholars are kaafirs because they make up their own religion
--they make things halal which is haraam and he is chasing the dunya
--wicked scholar is referred to as a dog

And recite (O Muhammad) to them the story of him to whom We gave Our Ayah (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), but he threw them away; so Shaitan (Satan) followed him up, and he became of those who went astray.

And had We willed, We would surely have elevated him therewith but he clung to the earth and followed his own vain desire. So his parable is the parable of a dog: if you drive him away, he lolls his tongue out, or if you leave him alone, he (still) lolls his tongue out. Such is the parable of the people who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). So relate the stories, perhaps they may reflect. Al-Araf 7: 175-176

3) have a library with books, DVDs, CDs, etc
-- not boolywood/hollywood filth
-- if you're addicted to the filth of Hollywood/bollywood you will be destroyed spiritually
--you will become a munafiqh, your heart will become hardened
--you will not be able to cry during the Friday khutbah
--heart grows harder when you are preoccupied with haraam
--you will not cry when you attend khutbah on Jummah

Then, after that, your hearts were hardened and became as stones or even worse in hardness. And indeed, there are stones, out of which rivers gush forth, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which split asunder so that water flows from them, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do. Al-Baqarah 2:74

--when you cry for ALLAH, ALLAH makes it haraam for the hellfire to burn your eyes
--Allah doesn’t like the hearts that are hard

“The fire will not touch the two pairs of eyes; one that sheds tears out of fear of Allah and the other that keeps watch throughout the night in the cause of Allah.” (Nasa’i, Tirmidhi)

--turn houses into seat of learning
-- instead of stockpiling a lot of Hollywood and bollywood films
--why don’t you stockpile cads and DVDs of scholars?
--if you pray behind a person who hates the mujahideen, your salah becomes bautil

4) go to a masjid on Jummah in order to have a good change in your heart
--don’t pray behind the Munafiqoon that do not support mujahideen
--cell phone needs to be charged likewise you need to charge your eeman
--you are living in dar ul harb, only the strong will survive
--spiritual need is most important need, especially in daar ul harb
--where weak fall and strong survives
--Saudi girls don’t need to go to Jummah but in daar ul harb,
--we are advised to attend Jummah
--we need to attend Jummah in order to boost our eeman

5) go to the front lines
--taifa al mansoora - victorious group = THE ELITE
--taifa al mansoora are the mujahideen, the elite of the ummah
--that is the best environment you can be in
--firqa naajia are ahlul sunnah wa jama'ah (the saved sect)
--the best way to cater your spiritual need
--highest way to cater your spiritual need is jihaad fi sabilillah,
--peak of the matter is jihaad

Tomorrow, we will cover all of our basic needs:
1. Spiritual
2. Emotional
3. Physical
4. Financial
5. Intellectual
