Bismillah, we are expounding on last night's topic, RAMADAN: THE MONTH OF GLORY

ALLAH ('tala) said in 2:183 ... fasting is that we should learn self-retrained

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (Al-Baqarah 2:183)

WHAT IS TAQWAH?

- to place between yourself and the wrath of Allah (tala) a barrier
- by doing what is fard and abstaining from haraam

The purpose of the fast is to teach us taqwah
- The sisters are the first education the children receive
- so it's important to pick a proper Islamic wife to raise your children

“The five daily prayers, Friday prayer to the following Friday prayer, and Ramadan to the following Ramadan are expiations for sins as long as one abstains from major sins. [Muslim]

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.” Bukhari 31 hadith 125

Major sins

- have punishments attached to them (ie stealing, we cut off your hand)
- slandering a Muslimah, you receive 80 lashes, so this is a major sin

Stay away from the seven destroyers." They said: O Messenger of Allah and what are they? He said: "Associating with Allah in worship, sorcery, the taking of a life which Allah has sanctified except rightfully, consuming interest, consuming the property of an orphan, fleeing on the day of intense battle and slandering innocent, unknowing, believing women." Muslim & Bukhari

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn(Al-Baqarah 2:183)

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ascended the minbar and said: “Ameen, ameen, ameen.” It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah, you ascended the minbar and said, ‘Ameen, ameen, ameen. He said: “Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to me and said: ‘If Ramadan comes and a person is not forgiven, he will enter Hell and Allaah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen... Narrated by Ibn Hibbaan, 3/188

RAMADAN IS A GUEST

- It comes for 30 days.
- It is expected of you to improve in Taqwa, while your guest is here.

FASTING IS ALSO A SHIELD

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Fasting is a shield (or a screen or a shelter). So, the person observing fasting should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should tell him twice, ‘I am fasting.” Bukhari Volume 3, Book 31, Number 118

-Fasting shields you, even for those who cant get married they should fast.
-because it lowers your libido & helps you protect against temptation.

Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallaho anho) relates that Prophet Mohammad (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) said, "My Ummah were given five things for Ramadan which were not given to anyone except them. For them, the smell from mouth of a fasting person is more sweeter to Allah than the fragrant smell of musk (Ahmad, Bazzaar & Bayhaqi)

THE RAYYAN GATE HADITH:

Narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained up.” [Al-Bukhaari (1899) and Muslim (1079)]

ALL THE GATES OF HEAVEN ARE OPENED AND ALL THE GATES OF HELL ARE CLOSED?

WHICH SHAITAN IS CHAINED?

THE SHARH OF THE HADITH IS THAT IT IS NOT IBLISS WHO IS CHAINED
- Iblees is not the one who is chained.
- Sharh = explanation of a hadith
- Tafseer = explanation of the Qur'an
- People still do the haraam in Ramadan
- because its the Junior Shayteen that’s chained.
- It is the Junior Shayateen who are in chain, the small ones - not Iblees.

And [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, "No one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector." But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed I fear Allah. And Allah is severe in penalty." (Al Anfal 8:48)

THE BATTLE OF BADR

- Battle of Badr took place on 17th of Ramadan & yet the shaytaan
- came to Quraysh & hyped them up to go against the Muslims & fight.
- THE BATTLE OF BADR is also known as one of the turning points of history

And [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, "No one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector." But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed I fear Allah. And Allah is severe in penalty." (Al Anfal 8:48)
- Shaytaan ran away when he saw the Angels.
- He said, I fear Allah for I see what you don’t see - He is BUT a liar!
- Because if he claims that he fears Allah then why don’t you worship Allah.

WHY DOESN'T IBLISS WORSHIP ALLAH TALA SINCE HE KNOW THAT ALLAH IS SEVERE IN PUNISHMENT?
- For we have seen how severe Allah is in His punishment
- and yet shaytaan doesn’t pay heed!
- Allah is swift, sever & decisive on His punishment.
- Hence Surah 8:48 is the Hujjah that Iblees is not the one chained;
- its the junior shayateen only.

IBLISS DID A RUNNER [means to run away when you see trouble]
- All the fasting person will be called from that Gate.

"There is a gate to Paradise that is called ar-Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection it will say: 'Where are those who fasted?' When the last [one] has passed through the gate, it will be locked." [al-Bukhari and Muslim].

- Only those who Fast will enter it,
- those who didn’t fast would never enter this gate.
- The person who does not Fast in Ramadan is a Munafiqh.
- You cannot go to bed with him, because he is a Kaafir.

"The fast and the Qur'an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: 'O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him.' The Qur'an will say: 'I prevented him from sleeping at night. Let me intercede for him.' And their intercession will be accepted." [Ahmad]

RAMADAN INTERCEDES FOR US,
- AS WELL AS THE QUR'AN INTERCEDING FOR US

- Even if you listen to the Qur’an, it will intercede.

WHEN THE QUR'AN IS BEING RECITED....
- see 7:204
- Its HARAAM for you to speak or not pay attention to it.
- the Qur'an can not be our ring-tone for mobile phone
- Even the Athan is haraam to be kept as a ring tone.

So, when the Quran is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy. Al Araf 7:204

VIRTUES OF RAMADAN

1. IT MAKES US KEEP IN TOUCH W/ THE HOLY QUR'AN

- Allah has revealed the most sacred book
- The Qur’an in the best language i.e. Arabic.
- Anyone who prefers any other language above Arabic is a Munafiqh.
- Countries should adopt Arabic as their Language instead of other languages.
- Pakistan, Malaysia, India, Turkey,
- all these countries hang on to their languages because of Asabiyya.
- which means they are nationalist!
- people who hang on to their languages always have dodgy aqeeda
- they don't believe in 39:30
- They have wrong idea about Islam - Like Pakistan, mainly are Barelvis.

SHIITE AQEEDA:
“Allah often lies and does mistakes” [Usool-al-Kafi, page 328, Yacoob Kulayni, Vol. 1]

- In Persia, their Aqeedah is Shiite.

the Prophet said: “He is not one us who calls for Asabiyya, or who fights for Asabiyya or who dies for Asabiyya.” (Narrated in the Sunan of Abu Dawud)

- Why cant the Shiite go to Algeria & practise your Aqeedah there.
- They wont go, because the Algerians will not tolerate such an Aqeedah.

TARAWEEH PRAYERS:

Of all the numbers mentioned, none is sounder than 11 raka’at. 'Aishah (ra) was asked how was the prayer of the Prophet (saws)? She replied: "He did not pray in Ramadan or some other times more than eleven raka’at." (Muslim/Bukhari)

- how many raka’at do we pray? 8 or 20 .. choice is ours
- The choice is yours, it can be either 8 or 20 Rakah.
- You cannot criticize those who pray either 11 or 23.
- Because its the Sunnah of Prophet (pbuh) & Umar Khattab.
- It was Umar Khattab who organized the Taraweeh prayer.
- It was the best accomplishment - as was when Uthman did for compiling the Qur’an.
- Ramadan keeps you close contact with Qur’an.
- Because they keep on revising & memorizing the Qur’an.
- It is Haraam to memorize the Qur’an & then forget it.
- The Shiites position is pitiful & Pathetic because they don’t do Taraweeh.
- And hence the reason there are no Qur’an Hafiz in Shiite.
- Its best they don’t, because the Qur’an will either be
- with you or against you on the day of Judgment.

SHIITES DON’T BELIEVE IN THESE AYAH:

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). (15:9)

SHIITES BELIEF REGARDING THE QUR'AN:
The present Quran is in an altered, corrupted and distorted form.. (Fatuhat-e-Shia, p. 129)

And (remember) when you (Muhammad SAW) left your household in the morning to post the believers at their stations for the battle (of Uhud). And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (3:121)

.... "Be not sad (or afraid), surely Allah is with us." ........ (9:40)

If you help him (Muhammad SAW) not (it does not matter), for Allah did indeed help him when the disbelievers drove him out, the second of two, when they (Muhammad SAW and Abu Bakr) were in the cave, and he (SAW) said to his companion (Abu Bakr): "Be not sad (or afraid), surely Allah is with us." (9:40)

Verily! Those who brought forth the slander (against 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet SAW) are a group among you. Consider it not a bad thing for you. Nay, it is good for you. Unto every man among them will be paid that which he had earned of the sin, and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be a great torment. (24:11)

The Shia believe that at the time of Mahdi’s return Imam Mahdi will resurrect Aisha (Prophet Mohammad’s wife) and execute the law of Hudud on her, for committing Zina (adultery) during her marriage. (Al-Anwar Al-Numaniyah, vol. 1, p. 161, Tafsir al-Shafi, vol. 2, p. 108, Haq al-Yaqeen, vol. 2, p. 256, Hayat al-Qulub, vol. 2, p. 611)

SHIITE BELIEFS REGARDING AISHA (r.a.)
“Allah often lies and does mistakes” [Usool-al-Kafi, page 328, Yacoob Kulayni, Vol. 1]

- They claim she had an affair & that ALLAH lied to protect her!

SHAIKH'S THESIS IN UNIVERSITY WAS ABOUT THE SHIITES AND THE MU’TAZILITES
- The reason we spoke about Shiites in Ramadan topic is
- because they don’t believe in Taraweeh.
- They Believe its a Bidah of Umar Khattab (r.a)
- They also believe the Bidah of Umar Khattab (r.a) is when he abolished Mutah.
- In Pakistan - Heera Mandy (Lahore), thousands of women
- are kept as brothel there to get married for 1 hour.
- In Iran, a woman earns a lot because she can
- get married for 1 hour in a night with many men.
- They the Shiite claim that Umar's daughter did Mutah
- behind his back & so he abolished Mutah.
- So, in other words they are trying to claim Umar Khattab being a weak person.
- They the Shiites have their own History books & are filled with LIES !
- There is no difference of Aqeedah between a Shiite & a Mutazalite.
- the children from mutah marriages are not maintained by their fathers
- they are not classified as bastard children

2. IT KEEPS YOU IN TOUCH w/ ALLAH (tala)
3. IT'S A MEANS TO HAVE YOUR SINS FORGIVEN

4. IT'S A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO BECOME HEALTHY

Fast and you will be healthy." It is part of a hadeeth reported by lbn 'Adiyy in al-Koamil (7/2521) by way of Nahshal ibn Sa'eed: from ad-Dahhaak

A believer eats in one intestine (is satisfied with little food) and a kaafir (unbeliever) or a hypocrite eats with seven intestines" (Bukhari)

-a big belly is a sign of a munafiqh
-we're not to marry people who are morbidly obese
-we can marry people who are clinically obese (overweight)

...while those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as cattle eat, and the Fire will be their abode. (Muhammad 47:12)

-the kuffaar indulge in many pleasures of the flesh, such as over-eating
-they live to eat not eat to live
-some do "comfort eating" (this is haraam)
-haraam till we eat till we become obese
-this dunya is a Paradise for the kuffaar so they over-indulge
-fasting in Ramadan cause our stomachs to shrink
-we're not epicurean (they live for the pleasures of the flesh)
-obesity puts great pressure on our organs
-please bring the article for the ONE TON MAN
-morbidly obese people are NOT marriage material

5. IT TEACHES YOU SABR (PATIENCE)
6. IT TEACHES YOU UNITY
7. IT ENHANCES THE ISLAMIC BROTHERHOOD AND THE ISLAMIC SISTERHOOD

- Fasting helps you strengthen your brotherhood & sisterhood.
- Because you invite your brother & sisters for Iftar.

In a hadith narrated by Salman Al-Farsi, the Prophet (SAW) said, "Whoever feeds a fasting person, will be recompensed with forgiveness of sins and salvation from Hell. He will receive the same reward as the fasting person without causing him any reduction (in his reward).”

8. ITS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE EXPATIATION OF SINS

"Fasting the day of 'Ashura' (is of great merits), I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for (the sins committed in) the previous year." (Muslim)

- If you feed Fasting people, it wipes of their sins.

WHO DOES NOT NEED TO FAST?
-pregnant woman
-nursing mother (breast-feeding)
- the correct opinion re: these women is that she feeds
- people who are breaking their fast or are poor
- Ibn Abass agreed that they feed a fasting person
- if she can't afford to, no problem: we're not given burdens we can't bear

9. IT TEACHES YOU CONSCIENCE
- Even though you were hungry & thirsty, you didn’t hide & drink water or eat.
- Because you know you cant hide from Allah, even though can hide from people.
- For Allah is all seeing & all knowing - You are God fearing.
- if the wife initiates s-x in Ramadan, she must feed 60 poor people, as her husband
- we must go to bed after Maghrib only
- the athaan of Fajr: stop eating

1233. Sahl ibn Sa'd reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "People will continue to be all right as long as they hurry to break the fast." [IMAM NAWAWI Agreed upon]

-the athaan of Maghrib : rush to break your fast

10. ITS SEPARATES THE BELIEVERS FROM THE MUNAFIQEEN
-if you are young but have an ulcer stomach (example), you're exempt from fasting
-but you must pay $200 USD
-if you're terminally ill, you don't make it up but if you're not terminal,
-you must make up your Ramadan
-if you feed a poor person and give away the equivalent of $200 USD
-see 2:185 Allah wants ease for us
-the hukm for not terminal ill person is like the traveler and menstruating women

Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (Al-Baqarah 2:185)

11. IT TEACHES YOU ADAPTABILITY (you're flexible)

-you are not fixed, rather you are flexible: the Suhur is taken before sunrise
-psychologically, we're expecting this change, so we're flexible

"Take Suhur as there is a blessing in it." Sahih Bukhari, Vol.3, Book 31, #146, Narrated Anas bin Malik

12. IT GIVES YOU A SENSE OF BELONGING / IDENTITY

-we belong to the ummah of Muhammad (saws)
-in Asian community it is called Sehri
-if we wake up late for Suhur, we're to fast anyway!
-those who fast w/o making the intention of fasting before the athaan of Fajr
-we have NO fast for that day!
-The Hanbalis says we're to make intentions EVERY DAY of Ramadan
-Imam Shafi'i agreed
-Hindus, Sikhs, Jews, Christians, atheists and such do not fast in Ramadan
-so we have a sense of belonging

13. IT’S A MEANS FOR GAINING VICTORY OVER THE KUFFAAR
-because the shayteen are in chains
-some of the best battles were in Ramadan....

1. THE BATTLE OF BADR (17th of Ramadan)
2. THE CONQUEST OF MECCA
3. CONQUEST OF SPAIN

-93 years after the hijrah
-conquered by a 17 year old

4. THE BATTLE OF HITTIN
-Salahuddin al-Ayyubi conquered Jerusalem
-this was 583 years after the hijrah

5. BATTLE OF AIN JALOOT
-the Tartars killed Mu’tasim
-he wrote a letter to MAHMOOD SAIFU DEEN QUTUZ (leader of Egypt)
-he read the letter that said: "we've made your women widows
-and children orphans, so surrender to us)"
-the place where the two armies came together is called Ain Jaloot
-this battle is known as the MOMENT OF TRUTH
-is what you said in your letter real?
-many Muslim sisters fought in that battle
-the tartars were gaining momentum over the Muslims
-so Mahmood gave another speech
-then they defeated the Tartars [1st time they tasted the bitterness of defeat]
-many Turks fought in this battle, as well
-this took place 658 AH on the 25th of Ramadan

14. IT MAKES YOU FEEL THE HUNGER THAT POOR PEOPLE FEEL [YOU BECOME CHARITABLE]

15. IT MAKES YOU SAVE BACK ON MONEY /SPENDING

-if you're spending more for food in Ramadan, you're doing something wrong
-we eat less so we should spend less

16. IT TEACHES YOU SELF-RESTRAINT and TAQWAH

Abu Huraira related that Rasulullah said: Many people who fast get nothing from their fast except hunger and thirst, and many people who pray at night get nothing from it except wakefulness (Darimi)

- You must Fast with the right intention.
- we're to fast for the right reason, not to save fast or to show off
- We should Fast, for the sake of Allah.

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Verily, my Salat (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (Al-An'am 6:162)

- Those who fast with wrong intention has no barakah in their fast.
- Your eyes should also fast - Not look at naked women.
- Your tongue as well has to fast - give up evil talks, Gheebah, nameemah.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)" Bukhari 111 / 127

Abu Huraira related that Rasulullah said: Many people who fast get nothing from their fast except hunger and thirst, and many people who pray at night get nothing from it except wakefulness (Darimi)

- It is impossible for Allah to accept the Fast of a Shiite.
- Because they have the wrong Aqeedah.
- Same is the case for a Barelvis, a Qadiyani.
- These people & many more will get no Barakah, because they are Kuffaar, they are only starving themselves.
- You cannot go to bed with your Wife before Maghrib.

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (Al-Baqarah 2:183)

- You cannot go to Haraam places, your feet must Fast as well.
- massage parlors are like brothers

17. IT CONTAINS THE NIGHT OF POWER
- This is night is better then a Thousand Months.
- this night is a gift to us

When you do Ibaadah in this night
- your Ibaadah is more then a thousand month.

- Another Gift from Allah to this Ummah is
- the breath of a Fasting person is better then Musk.

- The other is Tayammum.

18. FOR US TO PERFORM UMRAH, WE GET THE BARAKAH OF HAJJ

“When the month or Ramadan arrives, go for ‘umrah, because `umrah in Ramadan is like accompanying me on Hajj.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî (1764)]

- Many of people refrain from Drinking & zina only in Ramadan,
- They go back to the Haraam after Ramadan.
- These are those who don’t worship Allah, they worship Ramadan.

Ramadan mubarak...
