Bismillah...

This is a surah revealed in Makkah
-it's short and focused on tawheed

I swear by this city (Makkah); (Al-Balad 90:1)

And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah), (Al-Balad 90:2)

Allah 'tala swears by Makkah in this surah

-since He (swt) is the Creator, He (swt) can swear by anything
-but we can only swear by only Allah 'tala
-if we swear by anything but Allah, then we have committed shirk
-if we see it as a deity, it is a major shirk,
-taking us outside the fold of Islam
-but if not seen as deity, then its minor shirk
-so we can only swear by Allah

"He who swears by other than Allah, commits Kufr or Shirk." [Ahmed and others]

WHY DID ALLAH SWEAR BY MAKKAH?

-it has many virtues, such as 30 virtues!

31 MERITS OF MAKKAH:
1ST MERIT OF MAKKAH: THE KAB’A IS THE FIRST PLACE TO WORSHIP ALLAH 'TALA

Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessing, and guidance for Al-'Alamin (the mankind and jinns). (Aali Imran 3:96)

In it are manifest signs (for example), the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham); whosoever enters it, he attains security. And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). (Aali Imran 3:97)

Who laid the foundation for the Kab’a?

-by the angels
-they laid the house in Makkah and the other is Jerusalem
-the masjid in Madinah was laid by the Prophet (saws) himself
-there is another Kab’a in the heavens

By the Mount; (At-Tur 52:1)

And by the Book Inscribed. (At-Tur 52:2)

In parchment unrolled. (At-Tur 52:3)

And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mûr (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); (At-Tur 52:4)

Rasullullah (SAW) said: “The Ka’bah is surrounded by seventy thousand angels. They seek forgiveness and blessings for those who make tawaf.” (Ibn Majah)

70,000 angels go there every day

-see 52:1-3
-so there is a Kab’a adjacent to our Kab’a
-if it fell from heaven, it would fall on top of ours in Makkah

2ND MERIT OF MAKKAH: IBRAHIM MADE DU'A FOR ALLAH 'TALA TO BLESS MAKKAH

And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said, "My Lord, make this city (Makkah) a place of security and provide its people with fruits, such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day." He (Allah) answered:
"As for him who disbelieves, I shall leave him in contentment for a while, then I shall compel him to the torment of the Fire, and worst indeed is that destination!" (Al-Baqarah 2:126)

-he asked Allah to make it a safe place and secure city and that du'a was answered!

By the fig, and the olive, (At-Tin 95:1)

By Mount Sinai, (At-Tin 95:2)

And by this city of security (Makkah), (At-Tin 95:3)

3rd MERIT OF MAKKAH: IT'S A PLACE TO MAKE TAWAAF, AND IT'S THE ONLY PLACE WE CAN MAKE TAWAAF

Then let them complete the prescribed duties (Manasik of Hajj) for them, and perform their vows, and circumambulate the Ancient House (the Ka'bah at Makkah). (Al-Hajj 22:29)

-no other tawaaf will be accepted
-those who make it around the graves are mushrikeen
-we're to make tawaaf around the Sacred House [only]

Rasullullah (SAW) said: “One who makes tawaf, dives into the mercy of Allah. Allah lauds those who make tawaf in the celestial circles of the angels. ” (Muatta)

-any other place we make tawaaf, that is shirk
-in Africa, Shaikh saw some in Nigeria who build his own Kab’a there
-and charged people 1 USD
-but this is bid'ah not shirk
-in Iraq, the Shiites have made their own Kab’a
-but Allah is the only legislator so we can only make tawaaf in Makkah

4th MERIT OF MAKKAH: IT'S A PLACE FOR SALAH

And (remember) when We made the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) a place of resort for mankind and a place of safety. And take you (people) the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham) [or the stone on which Ibrahim (Abraham) stood while he was building the Ka'bah] as a place of prayer (for some of your prayers, e.g. two Rak'at after the Tawaf of the Ka'bah at Makkah), and We commanded Ibrahim (Abraham) and Isma'il (Ishmael) that they should purify My House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) for those who are circumambulating it, or staying (I'tikaf), or bowing or prostrating themselves (there, in prayer). (Al-Baqarah 2:125)

5th MERIT OF MAKKAH: IT'S DESIGNATED AS A HOLY LAND

I (Muhammad SAW) have been commanded only to worship the Lord of this city (Makkah), Him Who has sanctified it and His is everything. And I am commanded to be from among the Muslims (those who submit to Allah in Islam). (An-Naml 27:91)

-it is sanctified [means to make 'holy']
-the Qur'an was revealed in the best language, Arabic,
-to the most Holy prophet, Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)
-in the most holy city, Makkah, in the most sacred month, Ramadan
-via his closest angel, Jibreel

Abdullah bin 'Adi bin Al-Hamra reported that he heard Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) saying, "By Allah ! You (O Makkah) are the best of Allah' s land, and most beloved to Him. Had I not been driven away from you, I would have never departed (from you)." (recorded by At-Tirmidhi, Ahmad, An-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah; At-Tirmidhi said, "Hasan Sahih')

Verily! As-Safa and Al-Marwah (two mountains in Makkah) are of the Symbols of Allah. So it is not a sin on him who perform Hajj or 'Umrah (pilgrimage) of the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) to perform the going (Tawaf) between them (As-Safa and Al-Marwah). And whoever does good voluntarily, then verily, Allah is All-Recogniser, All-Knower. (Al-Baqarah 2:158)

6TH MERIT OF MAKKAH: AS-SAFA AND AL-MARWAH WERE REVEALED

-if we don't run between these 2 hills, our hajj is rejected
-if we physically can
-when a woman menstruates, she can't make tawaaf but she can run between the 2 hills
-this is because our tawaaf is salah and we can't make it w/o wudu

7th MERIT OF MAKKAH: THE ANGELS SHAKING HANDS W/ 3 PEOPLE

Rasullullah (SAW) said: “If the angels were to shake hands with anyone, then they would have shaken hands with: (1) a warrior in the path of Allah. (2) one who treats his parents kindly. (3) one who makes tawaf around the house of Allah.” (Sahih Muslim , Sahih Bukhari)

If the angels shake hands w/anyone, it would be 3 people:
1 mujahideen who fight Fesabilillah
2 those who are good to their parents
3 those who make tawaaf around the Kab’a

8TH MERIT OF MAKKAH: IT IS SURROUNDED BY 70,000 ANGELS
-they constantly seek forgiveness for those who make tawaaf

Rasullullah (SAW) said: “The Ka’bah is surrounded by seventy thousand angels. They seek forgiveness and blessings for those who make tawaf.” (Ibn Majah)

9TH MERIT OF MAKKAH: THE ONE WHO MAKES TAWAAF IS DIVING IN THE MERCY OF ALLAH 'TALA

Rasullullah (SAW) said: “One who makes tawaf, dives into the mercy of Allah. Allah lauds those who make tawaf in the celestial circles of the angels. ” (Muatta)

Allah praises him in the gathering of the angels

10th MERIT OF MAKKAH: IF YOU DIE IN MAKKAH OR MADINAH, YOU WILL BE GRANTED THE SHAFA’AA OF MUHAMMAD (saws)

Rasullullah (SAW) stated: “If it is possible for anyone to die in any one of the two Harams, then let him die there. For I will be the first to intercede on their behalf. They will be safe from the punishment of Allah on the day of Qiyamah. No reckoning will be taken from them nor will they be punished.” (Sunan Tirmizi, Ibn Majah, Musnad Imam Ahmad)

“Anyone who died in the Haram is like one who died in the fourth heaven.” (Sahih Bukhari, Ibn Hibban)

IF WE DIE THERE, IT'S LIKE DYING IN THE 4TH HEAVEN

-we'll be saved from the punishment and we enter Paradise w/o any reckoning

I swear by this city (Makkah); (Al-Balad 90:1)

Narrated 'Uthman: The Prophet said, "The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." Bukhari, Book 61, No. 545

11th MERIT OF MAKKAH: WHEN WE WALK IN MAKKAH, AND RAISE/LOWER OUR FEET, WE RECEIVE 70,000 REWARDS

“Anyone who made hajj of the house of Allah walking, every time he raises his foot and lowers it to complete his step, he receives seventy thousand rewards from the rewards of the haram.” (Muatta)

12th MERIT OF MAKKAH: WHEN WE PRAY IN MAKKAH @ THE KAB’A, WE FOR EACH SALAH, WE RECEIVE 100,000 SALAH

Ibn Abbas (RA) commented: “The reward of the Haram is equivalent to a hundred thousand rewards.”

“Anyone who offered four rakat salat in front of the door of the Ka’bah, it is as if he worshipped Allah as much as the worship of His entire creation. Seventy thousand Angels send salutations (Muatta)

-if we pray 1 Fajr in Jerusalem, we get the reward of praying 500 Fajr
-the ummah in Jerusalem are doing ribaat,
-[keep watch over the property of the ummah] alhumdulillah
-they are muraabitoon [they protect Masjid al-Aqsa]

Sayyidina Sahi ibn Sad (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger i saiu “To guard the frontiers for a day in Allah’s cause is better than the world and what is on it. A expedition in the evening by a man in Allah’s cause, or in the morning, is better than the world and whatever is on it. And the space of a whip in paradise is better than the world and whatever is on it.’ [Tirmidhi 1670 and Ahmed 22935]

13TH MERIT OF MAKKAH: EVERY TIME WE KISS THE BLACK STONE, WE GIVE OUR BAYAH TO ALLAH 'TALA

-this is our oath of allegiance / loyalty

“Anyone who comes to the Ruknul-Aswad and kisses it, it is as if he has taken the bay’at (pledge of allegiance) to Allah and His Rasul.” (Sunan Tirmizi, lbn Majah)

14th MERIT OF MAKKAH: NOTHING OF JANNAH REMAINS OTHER THAN THE BLACK STONE

Rasullullah (SAW) said: “Nothing of Jannah remains (in this world) except the Hajr-e-Aswad. If it was not for it being polluted by the filth and impurities of the idolaters, then no ill people would have touched it seeking a cure for an ailment except that they would have been cured.” (Muatta)

15TH MERIT OF MAKKAH: THE ONES WHO DIES BETWEEN MAKKAH AND MADINAH WILL BE RESURRECTED AS 1 WHOLE HAS COMPLETE SALVATION

16TH MERIT OF MAKKAH: WHEN WE LOVE ZAMZAM WATER, IT'S FREEDOM FROM HYPOCRISY

“On the day of Qiyamah, Allah will resurrect one who died in the sacred Haram of Allah or in the Haram of Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) or died between Makkah and Madinah, on hajj or on umrah, amongst those who have attained salvation. Indeed love for the water of Zamzam is safety from hypocrisy.” (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

17th MERIT OF MAKKAH: WHEN WE LIVE IN MAKKAH, WE ARE THE NEIGHBOR OF ALLAH 'TALA

-it's a great honor and to be driven out is a great dishonor

18TH MERIT OF MAKKAH: JUST FOR US TO MAKE OUR INTENTION TO BRING HARM TO MAKKAH, ALREADY IT IS A SIN
-and brings Allah's wrath on us
-just by "intention"

19th MERIT OF MAKKAH: THE KUFFAAR ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER MAKKAH OR MADINAH
-we're to kill the mushrikeen if we find them in Makkah or Madinah
-they are not allowed to come near it let alone enter it!

O you who believe (in Allah's Oneness and in His Messenger (Muhammad SAW)! Verily, the Mushrikûn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, and in the Message of Muhammad SAW) are Najasun (impure). So let them not come near Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) after this year, and if you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you if He will, out of His Bounty. Surely, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (At-Tawbah 9:28)

Then when the Sacred Months (the 1st, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islamic calendar) have passed, then kill the Mushrikûn wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (At-Tawbah 9:5)

20th MERIT OF MAKKAH: MAKKAH IS OUR QIBLA

-we pray and do not face the Qibla our salah is bautil
-the 1st thing we're to ask is WHERE IS THE East, WHERE DOES THE SUN RISE FROM ?
-every God-fearing Muslim should have a compass

Verily! We have seen the turning of your (Muhammad's) face towards the heaven. Surely, We shall turn you to a Qiblah (prayer direction) that shall please you, so turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid- al-Haram (at Makkah). And wheresoever you people are, turn your faces (in prayer) in that direction. Certainly, the people who were given the Scriptures (i.e. Jews and the Christians) know well that, that (your turning towards the direction of the Ka'bah at Makkah in prayers) is the truth from their Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what they do. (Al-Baqarah 2:144)

21st MERIT OF MAKKAH: WHEN WE MAKE UMRAH IN RAMADAN IT IS EQUAL TO HAJJ

“When the month or Ramadan arrives, go for ‘umrah, because `umrah in Ramadan is like accompanying me on Hajj.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî (1764)]

22ND MERIT OF MAKKAH: WHEN WE MAKE HAJJ, ALL OUR SINS ARE FORGIVEN

-it's the same as the day we were born

"Whoever performs Hajj and does not commit any Rafath (obscenity) or Fusuq (transgression), he returns (free from sin) as the day his mother bore him" (Sahih Bukhari)

23RD MERIT OF MAKKAH: IF YOU DIE W/O MAKING HAJJ OR MAKING YOUR INTENTION TO MAKE IT, THEN YOU ARE THE SAME AS A JEW OR CHRISTIAN

-if you never made hajj for yourself you can't make it for someone else

“He who possess enough food for the trip, a means of transportation to reach to Makkah, and yet does not perform Hajj, then he dies, he would then die as a Jew or a Christian” (At-Tirmidhi, Al-Bazzaar, and others).

25th MERIT OF MAKKAH: WHEN YOU MAKE A DUA IN ANY OF 7 SPOTS, YOUR DU'A IS ACCEPTED

THE 7 PLACES WHERE YOUR DU'A WILL BE ACCEPTED

1. Maqaam of Ibrahim
2. By the Black Stone
3. By the well of ZamZam (love for ZamZam is freedom from Nifaaq)
4. by Safaa
5. by Marwa
7. by the Valley of Mina
8. on top of Mount Arafat

It is not for a Prophet that he should have prisoners of war (and free them with ransom) until he had made a great slaughter (among his enemies) in the land. You desire the good of this world (i.e. the money of ransom for freeing the captives), but Allah desires (for you) the Hereafter. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. (Al-Anfal 8:67)

And never (O Muhammad SAW) pray (funeral prayer) for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave. Certainly they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and died while they were Fasiqûn (rebellious, - disobedient to Allah and His Messenger SAW). (At-Tawbah 9:84)

-its haraam for us to go to the JANAZAH of a Saudi Salafi, or Goofi Sufi, a Shia, or a Munafiqoon

ALLAH AGREED W/ UMAR ON 4 OCCASIONS:

Maqaam of Ibrahim a place for Salah in 2:125

-the captives of Badr should be killed
-the Hijab for women in Surah Nur 24:31
-that Rasulallah should not pray over Abdullah ibn Ubay in 9:84
-to pray over the Munafiqeen is a big mistake
-we are not to stand by the grave of a Munafiqh, let alone praying over him
-its haraam to pray JANAZAH for those who insult the Mujahideen
-the Munafiqeen cannot practise al Walaa wal Baraa
-they reject the Haakimiyyah of ALLAH
-they don’t give a damn about Iraq and AFG
-all they care about are their bellies and their private parts

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like palms of hands or one eye or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms, etc.) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husband's sons, their brothers or their brother's sons, or their sister's sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. (An-Nur 24:31)

On the authority of Imraan ibn Hussain who said: “The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘A group of people from my Ummah will continue to fight for the sake of the truth until the last of them fights the Dajjal (anti-Christ) (Al Hakin in his book Al-Mustadrak Vol. 4 pg.450) It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: One who died but did not fight in the way of Allah nor did he express any desire (or determination) for Jihad died the death of a hypocrite. [Sahih Muslim, Book 20, Hadith 4696]

The Messenger of Allah (saw) also said, "The believers, in their love, mutual kindness, and close ties, are like one body; when any part complains, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever." [Muslim]

-those do not care about the affairs of the Ummah, you are not one of us
-sign of a Munafiqh: insult the Mujahideen but cheer for the Crusaders
-a Pakistani in UK died in Afghanistan for the Queen
-his family was proud of his death for the Queen

First British Muslim soldier killed in 'War on Terror'
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-393878/First-British-Muslim-soldier-killed-war-terror.html

...Indeed love for the water of Zamzam is safety from hypocrisy.” (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

26th MERIT OF MAKKAH: ALLAH HAS DESIGNATED THE VALLEY OF MUZDALIFAAH AS A PLACE FOR DHIKR

27th MERIT OF MAKKAH: THE DAJJAL CANNOT ENTER MAKKAH

-the Dajjal cannot enter Makkah (or Madina) as stated in a hadith

Narrated By Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said, "There will be no town which Ad-Dajjal will not enter except Mecca and Medina, and there will be no entrance (road) (of both Mecca and Medina) but the angels will be standing in rows guarding it against him, and then Medina will shake with its inhabitants thrice (i.e. three earth-quakes will take place) and Allah will expel all the non-believers and the hypocrites from it." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 3, Book 30, Hadith #105]

28th MERIT OF MAKKAH: NATURAL DISASTERS CANNOT STRIKE MAKKAH

29th MERIT OF MAKKAH: ALLAH SWEARS BY MAKKAH IN SURAH AT-TIN

By the fig, and the olive, (At-Tin 95:1)

By Mount Sinai, (At-Tin 95:2)

And by this city of security (Makkah), (At-Tin 95:3)

30th MERIT OF MAKKAH: PEOPLE LOVE AND RESPECT THOSE WHO LIVE IN MAKKAH DUE TO THE DU'A OF PROPHET IBRAHIM (AS)

"O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in an uncultivable valley by Your Sacred House (the Ka'bah at Makkah); in order, O our Lord, that they may perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), so fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks. (Ibrahim 14:37)

-to live in Makkah is a great honor
-and to be driven out of Makkah is a great dishonor
-Ibrahim (as) made this du'a in surah 14:37) to ALLAH
-he made that du'a when Makkah was barren

20 Du'as of Prophet Ibrahim:
http://www.authentictauheed.com/2011/08/167-9-duas-of-prophet-ibrahim.html

-he made that du'a when Makkah was barren
-he prayed when he left his family in Makkah
-if there are 3 Muslims living in 3 different cities and one of them happens to live in Makkah
-the one who is from Makkah will be loved and respected more than the others
-and he will be made the Imam to lead the Salah
-this is so due to the du'a of Ibrahim (as)
-found in 14:37 in which Ibrahim (as) asked ALLAH to
-make the hearts of men gravity to those who live in Makkah
-Makkah is Umm al Qura (the "Mother of all Cities")
-that is another name for Makkah
-a title for Makkah

31st MERIT OF MAKKAH: THERE WILL BE NO FAMINE IN MAKKAH BECAUSE ALLAH ‘TALA ANSWERED THE DU'A OF IBRAHIM (AS)

And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said, "My Lord, make this city (Makkah) a place of security and provide its people with fruits, such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day. " He (Allah) answered: "As for him who disbelieves, I shall leave him in contentment for a while, then I shall compel him to the torment of the Fire, and worst indeed is that destination!" (Al-Baqarah 2:126)

-we see famine in Somalia and Ethiopia
-and many other places in the world
-but Makkah will never go through this trial
-Makkah is blessed

And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah), (Al-Balad 90:2)

It was halal for the Prophet (saws)
to punish those he conquered in Makkah
-he didn't kill them though
-and Iqrimah was the 1st to embrace Islam and he was saved from drowning
-he didn't break his promise to Allah for answering his du'a to save him and
-he went back to Muhammad and said, "la ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasool Allah"
-the Rasool said not to insult those who are dead
-because it hurts those who are still alive

Prophet (SAW) said on the conquest of Makkah, "O you people of Quraish! What do you think of the treatment that I am about to accord to you?" They replied: "O noble brother and son of noble brother! We expect nothing but goodness from you." Upon this he said: "I speak to you in the same words as Yusuf (the Prophet Joseph) spoke unto his brothers: He said: "No reproach on you this day," Go your way, for you are freed ones." “This day there is no reproof against you; Go your way, for you are free.” (Related by Ibn Kathir, recorded by Ibn al-Hajjaj Muslim)

-the Rasool (saws) didn't take revenge
-he said GO YOUR WAY, YOU ARE ALL FREE
-why didn't he take revenge? because he was sent as a MERCY FOR MANKIND

And We have sent you (O Muhammad SAW) not but as a mercy for the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (Al-Anbiya 21:107)

-they did atrocities but he was merciful and called people to tawheed
-they were starving the ummah for 3 years
-the ummah had to tie stones on their bellies to stop hunger pangs
-though revenge is the culture of the Arabs, he did not take revenge

People fastened stones on to their stomach because of hunger. Mohammed had not eaten longer than the other people, so he had two stones fastened on his stomach. Shamaa-il Tirmidhi ch.50 no.5 (353) p.395

And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); (Al-Balad 90:3)

Verily, We have created man in toil. (Al-Balad 90:4)

Man was created to struggle, don't expect not to have struggles

-we're not here in a bed of roses

And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.). (Al-Baqarah 2:155)

Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." (Al-Baqarah 2:156)

-we're not allowed to apostate from Islam when we're struggling

The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said “Wonderful are the affairs of a believer; for there is good in every affair of his; this is not the case with anyone else except a believer. If he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (Allah), thus there is good for him in it. If he suffers affliction, he endures patiently, which is good for him. Reported by Imam Muslim in his Sahih Book of Hadith from Suhayb Ibn Sinan (may Allah be pleased with him).

Mu'mim
- struggles by accepting qadr [Allah's will]
-and does it w/ patience
-and the munafiqeen is referred to in 22:11

And among mankind is he who worships Allah as it were, upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss. (Al-Hajj 22:11)

-we're not to worship Allah 'tala w/ conditions
-when good comes, we're thankful
-when bad comes, we're patient
-life will not be HUNKY DORY

Thinks he that none can overcome him? (Al-Balad 90:5)

We're not to think of ourselves as invincible
-the word 'superpower' is shirk b/c the only superpower is Allah
-la hawla la quwwata illa billah = our creed that NO one is superpower beside Allah 'tala
-the countries that think they are superpowers - they fail

He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" (Al-Balad 90:6)

-their mentality is to see themselves as superpowers
-but look at the HURRICANE KATRINA in US 2005
-this shows ALLAH 'TALA is the only superpower
-someone can go to casino and spend all his money
-but a fool and his money PART

Thinks he that none sees him? (Al-Balad 90:7)

Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? (Al-Balad 90:8)

And a tongue and a pair of lips? (Al-Balad 90:9)

And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? (Al-Balad 90:10)

We are being watched and we're given all we need
-for evidences of Allah 'tala
-but we close our eyes

But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. (Al-Balad 90:11)

2 HIGHWAYS / MOTORWAYS in life:
1. steep and 2. flat

-every motorist wants the flat one because the steep one takes too much petrol (gas)
-but the steep road takes us to Paradise
-there's no casinos, brothel,
-there are no pubs
-the majority of people will never choose the steep one

And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly. (Yusuf 12:103)

But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. (Al-Balad 90:11)

And what will make you know the path that is steep? (Al-Balad 90:12)

(It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.). (Al-Balad 90:13)

Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), (Al-Balad 90:14)

And they give food, in spite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, (Al-Insan 76:8)

The Messenger of Allah said: “Anybody who believes in Allah and the last day should not harm his neighbor, and anybody who believes in Allah and the last day should entertain his guest generously and anybody who believes in Allah and the last day should say what is good or keep quite”. (Sahih Bukhari (Arabic/English) Vol.8 pg.29 No.47)

Muslims feed their guests

-we receive Allah's mercy on Judgment Day if we feed starving people in the dunya

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Verily, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, would say on the Day of Resurrection: O son of Adam, I was sick but you did not visit Me. He would say: O my Lord; how could I visit Thee whereas Thou art the Lord of the worlds? Thereupon He would say: Didn't you know that such and such servant of

Thereupon He would say: Didn't you know that such and such servant of Mine was sick but you did not visit him and were you not aware of this that if you had visited him, you would have found Me by him? O son of Adam, I asked food from you but you did not feed Me. He would say: My Lord, how could I feed Thee whereas Thou art the Lord of the worlds? He said: Didn't you know that such and such servant of Mine asked food from you but you did not feed him, and were you not aware that if you had fed him you would have found him by My side? (The Lord would again say:) O son of Adam, I asked drink from you but you did not provide Me. He would say: My Lord, how could I provide Thee whereas Thou art the Lord of the worlds? Thereupon He would say: Such and such of servant of Mine asked you for a drink but you did not provide him, and had you provided him drink you would have found him near Me. [Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Hadith #6232]

To an orphan near of kin. (Al-Balad 90:15)

-the best home is the one where the orphan is treated well

Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are well treated. The worst house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are ill treated. I and the guardian of the orphan will be in the Garden like that," indicating his two fingers. [Bukhari]

Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. (Al-Balad 90:16)

Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. (Al-Balad 90:17)

We're to look after nieces and nephews [if mother dies or goes to prison]
-after we do all the charitable work, we must become believers
-don't be like Mother Theresa
-she did these good deeds but she has no baraka and was a kaafir

And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad SAW), as it was to those (Allah's Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers." (Az-Zumar 39:65)

As for those who disbelieve, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it to be water, until he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing, but he finds Allah with him, Who will pay him his due (Hell). And Allah is Swift in taking account. (An-Nur 24:39)

-if we do shirk, all our deeds are nullified and we go to Hellfire
-Muhammad (pbuh) was warned of this very thing, so if he was, how much more are we?

They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), (Al-Balad 90:18)

But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). (Al-Balad 90:19)

The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. (Al-Balad 90:20)

Surely! Those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) We shall burn them in Fire. As often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for other skins that they may taste the punishment. Truly, Allah is Ever Most Powerful, All¬ Wise. (An-Nisa 4:56)

The kuffaar's destiny is to abide in Hellfire forever
