-prescribed as to journey to Makkah, in ALLAH's,
-once in your lifetime to perform the ritual of pilgrimage

-Madinah is not Hajj
-If you go to Makkah but you don’t go to Madinah,
-your Hajj IS accepted
-some people think that if you do not go to Madinah,
-your Hajj is Bautil

Look at the definition:
-to journey to Allah’s house in Makkah once in your lifetime
- to perform the rituals of pilgrimage.
-Anyone who goes for Hajj & didn’t come to Madinah to visit me,
-he has indeed wronged me", fabricated hadith
-when was Hajj made compulsory:

FABRICATED HADITH: ‘Whoever performs the Hajj of the House (Ka’bah) and does not visit me has indeed treated me badly.’ [Silsilah-Daeefah No. 45, Fabricated- Mawdoo]

Hajj became compulsory nine years after the Hijrah

The definition says "once in your lifetime"
-Hajj is once in a lifetime & Rasulallah did Hajj only once

-According to Hanbali Madhab: Hajj & Umrah are Fard
-According to the Jamhoor (majority of scholars)
-hajj is fardul Ayn & Umrah is Sunnah Muakkadah
-and that is the correct opinion

-Islam is built on 5 pillars.
-Hajj is part of the five 5 pillars of Islam

“On the authority of Abu Abdul Rahmaan Abdullah (r), the son of Umar ibn al-Kattaab (r) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: ‘Islam is built upon five [pillars]: testifying that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the prayers, giving zakat, making pilgrimage to the House and fasting the month of Ramadan.’” (Recorded in Bukhari and Muslim)

-the 5 pillars of Islam are Fardul Ayn
-the 6th pillar of Islam is jihaad
-the 7th pillar is to look after your parents
-the 8th pillar is to enjoin the right & forbid the wrong
-Islam has more than 5 pillars & we know this
-because ALLAH told the Rasul SAWS about them

...And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). (Aali Imran 3:97)

***Anyone who is doing Qiraan or tamattu3 and couldn’t afford to sacrifice a sheep, should fast 10 days: 3 days on hajj and 7 days when they return home. See surah 2:196 for the hujjah

-similar to a debt you owe to a human being
-it is compulsory on both men & women
-those who deny that Hajj is compulsory are Kuffar
-there is another Ka’ba in the 7th heaven
-called Bayt al-Ma’mûr
-everyday 70,000 angels make hajj and they never visit it again

By the Mount; (At-Tur 52:1)

And by the Book Inscribed. (At-Tur 52:2)

In parchment unrolled. (At-Tur 52:3)

And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mûr (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); (At-Tur 52:4)

-is has the same size as well
-Our Ka'ba was built by Ibrahim (as) & his sacrificial son, Ishmael
-One day a Sahabi shouted "Are we suppose to make Hajj every year?"
-he said it 3 times
-but Rasulallah kept quiet because were he to say "yes"
-he would’ve made the Deen a burden on us

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) addressed us and said: O people, Allah has made Hajj obligatory for you; so perform Hajj. Thereupon a person said: Messenger of Allah, (is it to be performed) every year? He (the Holy Prophet) kept quiet, and he repeated (these words) thrice, whereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: If I were to say "Yes," it would become obligatory (for you to perform it every year) and you would not be able to do it. Then he said: Leave me with what I have left to you, for those who were before you were destroyed because of excessive questioning, and their opposition to their apostles. So when I command you to do anything, do it as much as it lies in your power and when I forbid you to do anything, then abandon it. [Sahih Muslim, Hadith #3095]

The nations of the past were destroyed

-because they asked too many questions to the nabi that was sent to them
-Hajj to the House of ALLAH is only once in your lifetime,
-as did Rasulallah

the one who performs hajj for the sake of ALLAH and abstains from haraam acts,
-he will return purified from sins to his home; this hadith is Muttafaq alayh

"Whoever performs Hajj and does not commit any Rafath (obscenity) or Fusuq (transgression), he returns (free from sin) as the day his mother bore him" (Sahih Bukhari)

Muttafaq alayah (found in both Bukhari & Muslim)

-to die in Makkah is your entry to Paradise
-many pilgrims die during Hajj due to heat stocks

“Anyone who died in the Haram is like one who died in the fourth heaven.” (Sahih Bukhari, Ibn Hibban)

-the pilgrims for Hajj & Umrah are the guests of ALLAH
-if they pray to ALLAH, they will get what they ask for
-use them for Tawassul and ask them to make du'a for you

Tawassul: to ask a person to pray for you
-that is one type of Tawassul

“Anyone who comes to the Ruknul-Aswad and kisses it, it is as if he has taken the bay’at (pledge of allegiance) to Allah and His Rasul.” (Sunan Tirmizi, lbn Majah)

Kissing the Black Stone
means to give your Ba'yah to ALLAH
-A Hajj which is accepted (mabrur) has no reward except Jannah

Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "From one 'umra to the next is expiation for everything in between them and there is no reward for an accepted hajj other than the Garden." [Agreed upon]

Indeed love for the water of Zamzam is safety from hypocrisy.” (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

Love for ZamZam water is freedom from hypocrisy (nifaaq)

The Hajj (pilgrimage) is (in) the well-known (lunar year) months (i.e. the 10th month, the 11th month and the first ten days of the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, i.e. two months and ten days). So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein by assuming Ihram), then he should not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commit sin, nor dispute unjustly during the Hajj. And whatever good you do, (be sure) Allah knows it. And take a provision (with you) for the journey, but the best provision is At-Taqwa (piety, righteousness, etc.). So fear Me, O men of understanding! (Al-Baqarah 2:197)

Hajj Mabrur:
when you were in Hajj, you didn’t act inappropriately,
-not commit sins, not physical relations, no disputes unjustly
-the best provision is Taqwa because you will behave properly
-and when a Hajj is mabrur you get Jannah

1. Ikhlaas an Niyah
-purify your intention
-you’re making Hajj for Li Wajh Illah

2. Make Tawbah from your sins

3. Pay back the loans you have

-if Hajj is 5000 USD & you owe a man 5000 USD,
-the scholars have said to pay back to that man
-because man is weak and ALLAH is not in need of us
-according to Usul ul Fiqh, if you owe a man 5000 USD
-and if Hajj is 5000 USD
-the scholars have said to pay back to that man***
-if you do not pay him, you will hurt him

4. Earn your living in halal to go to Hajj
-Hajj has to be made form halal money
-cannot use your money earned from pimping or selling drugs

5. Approach the people you have hurt and beg them for forgiveness
-Some of you have been accused of being gay;
-some of you have been slandered
-others you have backbitten
-many come on the net & slander people and go for Hajj
-without asking for forgiveness
-but you cannot come with currencies on Yawm al-Qiyamat,
-the ONLY currency acceptable on that Day are your good deeds
-if the creation doesn’t forgive you,
-the Creator will not forgive you either
-In the case that you cant find the person who you owe money to:
-you give charity of the amount that you owe that person.
-if you borrowed money from an individual or slandered them
-but they cannot be located when you are going for Hajj,
-you must give this money in charity on their behalf

1. Person has to be a Muslim

- a kaafir cannot enter Makkah or Madinah
- the Shahadah is a condition for all the pillars of Islam

2. Maturity
- if a child makes hajj the barakah goes to the parents.
- because it was the effort of the parents
- that caused the child to make hajj
- when the child reaches puberty, they have to make hajj again.
- because the first Hajj was accepted
- but wasn’t sufficient because the Baraaka went to his parents

3. Sanity

4. Freedom

- there is no hajj for the mad man; no Hajj for the Aseer

5. Health
- there is no hajj for a bid ridden person

6. Money for food & shelter
-money for plane ticket, food & residency
-for plane or bus ticket

7. Mahram to take you to Hajj (for women only)
-if a woman makes Hajj with a group of women, her Hajj is accepted
-no one can tell you otherwise
-what if she made Hajj by herself?
-it is accepted although she violated one of the conditions:
-to have a mahram

8. Making Hajj on behalf of the old, sick, and dead
-making hajj on behalf of these people
-it is permissible if the person
-who is making hajj had made it for him in the past
-that is the condition made by the 4 Imams
-if he didn’t make Hajj for himself,
-it is haraam for him to make it for others
-Some people are professional Hajjis
-they are paid to make Hajj for others
-nothing in Quran and Sunnah to say its haraam
-according to Shariah Law: everything is halal until proven haraam.
-principal of fiqh is: everything that leads to haraam is haraam.
-necessity knows no law
-if you do not eat pork to save your life,
-you have committed suicide
-you should abstain from:

1. Abstain from backbiting,
slandering, tale bearing, and flirting
-you should read Qur'an and make Dhikr
-Jidaal: to quarrel
-You are not allowed to argue during the Hajj journey
-(Even if you are with your wife!)

...nor dispute unjustly during the Hajj... (Al-Baqarah 2:197)

-you are not allowed to Jidaal with your spouse
-or those with whom you are making Hajj
-all the conversations should be Dhikr of ALLAH
-cannot smoke during Hajj

2. Help others during the journey of Hajj
-if you are younger, help others and this will draw you closer to ALLAH
-and your Hajj will be accepted more easily

1. Ifraad

-from the root word: farada
-Ifraad means a single pilgrimage
-to make your intention solely for hajj
-(without the intention for Umrah)
-the person who is performing Ifraad is not obliged to sacrifice an animal
-Mufrid is the pilgrim who is doing Ifraad hajj
-Ifraad is to do a single hajj with no umrah attached to it

2. Qiraan
-making your intention to make Hajj & Umrah jointly
-and wear the Ihram on the Miqaat
-men cannot wear Kilsoon (briefs) once they wear the Ihram
-men cannot wear Kilsoon (briefs for both males & females)
-once they wear the Ihram ***
-Kilsoon are briefs (unisex): women are allowed to wear them but not men
-during their hajj.
-it is fardh upon the one performing Qiraan hajj
-to sacrifice a lamb or goat.
-one man = one lamb/goat. - 7 men = cow or camel.

**When we put on the ihram, we chant:
“labaik allahumma labaik, labaika laa shareeka
laka labaik innal hamda
wan ni'mata laka wal mulk laa shareeka lak”

3. Tamattu'
-Tammat’ A: Adding Umrah & Hajj together
-but at the Miqaat the Ihram was worn for Umrah only
-Hajj is not intended when the Ihram was worn on the Miqaat, only Umrah
-Hajj is not intended when the ihram
-is worn at the Miqaat only umrah (was intended)
-this is the most complicated of the three hajjis
-on reaching Makkah, the pilgrim performs the ritual of Umrah

-These rituals are Tawâf around the Ka'ba 7 times
-then he performs 2 rakah behind Maqaam Ibrahim
-then performs 2 Ra'kat behind Maqam Ibrahim
-Drinks the water of Zamzam
-run between the hills of Safa wal Marwa 7 times
-then clips or shaves his hair
-run between the hills of Safa wal Marwa 7 times
-(this ritual is called Sai)
-after performing the ritual of Ummah,
-the pilgrim goes to wearing normal clothes
-he is no longer restricted with the prohibitions of ihram
-and he is no longer restricted by the prohibitions of Ihram
-and this is why this form of Hajj is called "Tammat’ A"
-this is why it is is called Tamattu'
-the pilgrimage in which one enjoys himself
-it is fardh that he sacrifices a lamb (when we do Qiraan)
-and it is compulsory for this pilgrim to sacrifice an animal (lamb)
-because Qiraan is hajj and umrah combine together

On the 8th of Dhul Hijjah Hajj begins
-so this person goes back to the state of Ihram and makes his intention for Hajj
-hajj can be 5 or 6 days; the choice is yours
-so this person goes back to the state of Ihram and makes his intention for Hajj;
-this is the Hajj of the person performing Tammat’ A hajj***

1. Intention for Ifraad:

-you say "Laibbaika Hajjan"
-the intention for hajj can be said out loud.
-intention for Hajj can be said loudly
-but any other intention said loudly is Bid'ah
-any other intention said out loud is a bidah

The Intention for Qiraan:
-"Laibbaika Umrah wa Hajj" or other way round, "Laibbaika Hajj wa Umrah"
-The Third is the intention for Tamattu;

"Laibbaika Umrah"
- you are only going to make umrah so you stop there.

-You shave your pubic hair:
-under arm pit and private parts: both for males and females
-the men should clip the moustache
-you clip the nails, then take a shower (males and females)
-after the shower, you put perfume on your body, not on the Ihram
-then you put on the Ihram.
-then perform 2 rakah of sunnah.

Note: if a person violates one of the restrictions of ihram and cannot afford to buy a sheep to sacrifice --then he should fast 3 days [see 2:196 for hujjah]

First Rakat with Surah al Kafiroon
-the second rakat with surah al-Ikhlaas; this is Sunnah
-if you didn’t recite these surahs you salah is accepted

-her Ihram is the same as men, except that she is allowed sewn clothing.
-her Ihram is exactly the same as men
-except that she is allowed to wear sown clothing’s
-and is allowed to wear briefs
-likewise she does not cover her face in Ihram.
-the reason why she does not cover her face in ihram is
-because niqaab is sunnah and not fardh.

1. It is haraam for males to wear stitched clothes

- the money belt is not a part of Ihram
- so he is allowed to wear a stitched money belt

2. To cover the head.
- It is haraam for males to cover the head in Ihram.

3. It’s haraam To apply perfume to the body or your Ihram

4. Or to use perfume soap

5. It is not allowed to shave or clip any hair on your body
-while you are on a state of Ihram

6. Or to clip your nails

7. Flirting

8. Proposing to women in Ihram is not allowed or accepting proposals

9. Getting married

10. Kissing your wife (or husband)

11. Sexual intercourse.

12. Quarrelling/arguing with other pilgrims.

13. Hunting animals.

- none of these things are allowed while in the state of Ihram
- ihram is when you are wearing the two pieces of cloth.
- when you are in Ihram, you are in a holy state
- therefore all of these restrictions are not allowed to be indulged in

- in this case the person has to sacrifice a lamb or a goat.
- for males to wear sewn clothing

- if you wear footwear covering the ankles you have violated the Ihram.

-(some scholars mention 13th: to kill head lice. )
-if you violate the ihram you have to sacrifice a lamb.

O you who believe! Kill not game while you are in a state of Ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah (pilgrimage), and whosoever of you kills it intentionally, the penalty is an offering, brought to the Ka'bah, of an eatable animal (i.e. sheep, goat, cow, etc.) equivalent to the one he killed, as adjudged by two just men among you; or, for expiation, he should feed Masakin (poor persons), or its equivalent in Saum (fasting), that he may taste the heaviness (punishment) of his deed. Allah has forgiven what is past, but whosoever commits it again, Allah will take retribution from him. And Allah is All¬ Mighty, All-Able of Retribution. (Al-Ma'idah 5:95)

Only one thing can nullify your hajj:
(render it bautil)
- This is sexual intercourse with your wife.
- it this case the person has to sacrifice a lamb
- and he must return the following year to perform hajj.
- because the hajj is deemed bautil (void)

...So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein by assuming Ihram), then he should not have sexual relations (with his wife),....(Al-Baqarah 2:197)
- the Hanafis believe that the person who does this
- should continue hajj, even tho its not accepted,.
- the Hanbalis say he should leave and return home.

- on the 8th of Dhul hijjah: he goes to Mina.
- the person who is performing Tamattu;
- he comes out of his sewn clothing and he puts on his ihram
- hajj is 5 or 6 days [choice is yours]
- on the next morning [9th of Dhul hijjah],
- the pilgrim goes to Mt. Arafah
- Arafah is from the Arabic word: Arafah'
- which means to know or be acquainted
- this is the place where Adam and hawa met
- after searching for each other
- Eve came down in the city of Jeddah : (means grandmother)

- the Rasool said: Al Hajj Arafah

The Prophet (saws) said in one hadith: “Hajj IS Arafah.” [Sunan Abu Dawud, book 10, #1944]

-if you don’t find yourself on the mount Arafah
-on the 9th of Dhul hijjah: your hajj is bautil
-fasting the day of Arafah is sunnah muakadah
-for a person who is not on hajj
-if you fast this day : one year of your past sins
-and one year of your coming sins will be forgiven
-this fasting is for the person who is not on hajj
-NOT for the person who is on hajj
-on Arafah a person should make dhikr,
-beg Allah and Ask Allah to forgive you for all your sins
-on Arafah the caliph for the Muslims is supposed to deliver a speech.
-the caliph should remind the Muslims to fear Allah,
-and practice Al Walaa wal baraa.
-he should incite the Muslims towards jihad, and encourage unity
-when Maghrib approaches, you should rush down
-from the hill of Arafat to the valley of Muzdalifah
-we sleep in the open there (without tents)
-the Khilafah should lead the Muslims in Salah at Arafat,
-and perform 2 Raka'at for Dhuhr and
-2 Raka'at for Asr and join both salah
-so he shortens & joins
-that was the Sunnah of the Rasul SAWS
-when Maghrib approaches, you should rush down from the hill of Arafat
-to the Valley of Muzdalifah
-at Muzdalifah, you sleep in the open air
-we shorten and join Maghrib w/ Isha
-in the morning after Fajr, we go to the Valley of Mina,
-which is the 10th of Dhul Hijjah
-this day, the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, is call Eid
-but if you’re on hajj, you’re exempted from Eid Salah
-the same as he is exempted from fasting on the day of Arafah

Then when you leave 'Arafat, remember Allah (by glorifying His Praises,
-i.e. prayers and invocations,
-at the Mash'ar-il-Haram. And remember Him
-(by invoking Allah for all good, etc.)
-as He has guided you, and verily, you were, before, of those who were astray. (Al-Baqarah 2:198)

The Prophet (saws) said: “The best du’a you can make is the du’a on the day of Arafah.” [Malik's Mutawaatir, Book 10, #20.76.255]

-the caliph should remind the Muslims to give up tribalism
-and all isms and schisms and wage jihad.
-Rasulallah said the best du'a is the du'a on Mount Arafah

Jabal ur-Rahmaan is where the farewell speech was delivered
-Jabal an-Nur is where the Revelation came down
-to Rasulallah in a cave called "Hira"

10th of Dhul Hijjah: Eid al-Adha (Eid al Kabir)
-on this day, which si the day of Eid, we stone the big jamrah,
-then the men shave their hair
-sacrifice an animal (if performing Tamattu or Qiraan)
-we buy a token, and the people sacrifice an animal for you
-then after shaving the hair, the men go to Makkah
-to perform Tawaaf ifaada
-this tawaaf is a crucial pillar of Hajj called, Tawaaf al-Ifaada and Sai
-afterward, he goes back to Mina’s valley
-we stone the Jamrah w/ 7 pebbles
-(normally fetched from the Valley of Muzdalifah)

On the 11th of Dhul Hijjah (4th day of Hajj)
-pilgrim stays in the Valley of Mina
-all which is required that day is to stone the 3 jamaarat after salatul Dhuhr
-to stone the jamrah after Maghrib is makrooh
-your hajj can be 5 or 6 days (the choice is yours)

The person who decides to spend 2 days after Eid,
-(to leave Mina on the 12th of Dhul Hijjah)
-he stones the 3 jamaarat then
-he goes back to Makkah to perform Tawaaf
-then he goes home; hajj is over
-this is the same ruling for the one who decides
-to leave on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah
