Bismillah...

And if all the trees on the earth were pens and the sea (were ink wherewith to write), with seven seas behind it to add to its (supply), yet the Words of Allah would not be exhausted. Verily, Allah is All¬ Mighty, All Wise. (Luqman 31:27)

[Sulaiman (Solomon)] said: "We shall see whether you speak the truth or you are (one) of the liars. (An-Naml 27:27)

LESSONS FROM SURAH AN-NAML:

1. DON'T BE QUICK TO MAKE JUDGMENTS

O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done. (Al-Hujurat 49:6)

"It is enough to call a man a liar that he narrates everything he hears" Saheeh al-Jaami' 4482 and Jaami' as-Sagheer

Sulaiman was noble in character

-so he didn't believe everything he heard
-he verified everything he heard
-but munafiqhs do not verify and they do repeat it
-Barelvis and Talafis do not verify news about us
-it’s not in their interest to verify anything about us
-because they are our enemy
-and the worst enemy is a religious enemy
-such as Milosevic in Yugoslavia [Serbia, Bulgaria]
-he turned them against the Muslim ummah
-the Muslims there didn't practice al walaa wal baraa
-but 2 million Muslims were killed because of what Milosevic said
-this was the dark chapter in Bosnian history
-the worst hatred is religious hatred
-so the Muslims in Occupied Palestine are suffering
-so we need to establish our own Islamic State
-and not live in the land of the kuffaar
-the munafiqh will spread lies about us because they don’t' even have our aqeeda
-they make up news about us and slander us
-but Allah said for us not to allow
-our hatred for people to oppress them
-we must call a man a liar if he repeats
-what he hears w/o verifying it
-Sulaiman even was testing the bird to see if he was lying

2. ANIMALS CAN BE DECEPTIVE
-they use deception to hunt
-if it wasn't possible for them to deceive,
-then Sulaiman wouldn't have said he'd check his story out
-they are fallible, they make mistakes = animals

[Sulaiman (Solomon)] said: "We shall see whether you speak the truth or you are (one) of the liars. (An-Naml 27:27)

-the people who were worshipping the sun,
-they were mushrikeen so he'd have to declare jihad on them
-so he had to verify what the hudhud said

And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world]. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do. (Al-Anfal 8:39)

-the word "fitnah" means "shirk"
-so we're to fight the kuffaar until there is no more shirk in the land

"Go you with this letter of mine, and deliver it to them, then draw back from them, and see what (answer) they return." (An-Naml 27:28)

Sulaiman said to take his letter to them

-and see how they answered his letter
-it was a noble and dignified letter but how did Bilqis realize this?

She said: "O chiefs! Verily! Here is delivered to me a noble letter, (An-Naml 27:29)

"Verily! It is from Sulaiman (Solomon), and verily! It (reads): In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful; (An-Naml 27:30)

-when we're writing a letter to a kaafir,
-it's permissible to write "Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim"
-his handwriting was good and he wrote God's words
-in the top of his letter, she realized it was noble
-there were no grammatical errors in his letter, either (or spelling)
-if you receive a letter for a job at your company
-and they have spelling mistakes: THEIR / THERE
-you throw the letter in the trash-can
-there: adverb their: pronoun
-or 'intrest' and 'interest' [correct spelling is: interest]
-you must know these differences!!
-90% of people can’t spell the word interest and or separate.

Bilqis knew that the letter was a noble letter
-because it had no grammatical or spelling errors.
- Bilqis and Sulaiman were both royalty: between royalties
- they have a certain language that they speak between each other.
- The runner for the election lost the election
- because he spelt potatoes 'potatos'
- potatoes are correct.
- the letter from Sulaiman was a noble letter;
- it began with Bismillahi rahmani Rahim.
- there are 114 chapters in the Quran, each
- one begins with Bismillahi rahmani Rahim except surah Tawbah (9)

Then when the Sacred Months (the 1st, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islamic calendar) have passed, then kill the Mushrikûn (see V.2:105) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-
Salat), and give Zakat, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (At-Tawbah 9:5)

- The reason surah Tawbah doesn’t begin with
-"Bismillahi rahmani Rahim"
- this is the surah of Jihad
- and it is not appropriate to mention Rahmah (Mercy)
- Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim appeared in Surah Naml 30
- The letter of Sulaiman read: Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim
- some people are very emotional about 'Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim'

"Verily! It is from Sulaiman (Solomon), and verily! It (reads): In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful; (An-Naml 27:30)

- if they see it in a book, they do not want
- to see the book thrown around etc.
- how can you dispose of an old Quran?
- you can burn them or bury them
- there is a hadith: that prophet had a ring
- with 'Muhammad Arrasool Allah' on the ring.
- the hadith says that the prophet took the ring off
- when he went for the call of nature.
- this hadith is weak
- in Muslim countries they have money printed with the name of Allah on it.

3. WHEN WE WRITE A LETTER TO A PERSON, MAKE IT SHORT / BRIEF

"Be you not exalted against me, but come to me as Muslims (true believers who submit to Allah with full submission)'" (An-Naml 27:31)

- the letter of Sulaiman was very short.
- the Prophet Muhammad sent letters to lots of kings, he made the letters short.

"In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad, the slave of Allâh and His Messenger to Hercules, king of the Byzantines. Blessed are those who follow true guidance. I invite you to embrace Islam so that you may live in security. If you come within the fold of Islam, Allâh will give you double reward, but in case you turn your back upon it, then the burden of the sins of all your people shall fall on your shoulders. "Say (O Muhammad [pbuh]): ‘O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allâh, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allâh.’ Then, if they turn away, say: ‘Bear witness that we are Muslims.’ " [Al-Qur'an 3:64][Sahih Al-Bukhari 1/4,5]
The Prophet [pbuh] wrote to Juraij bin Matta[Rahmat-al-lil'alameen 1/178; Dr. Hamidullah said that his name was Binyamin], called Muqawqas, vicegerent of Egypt and Alexandria saying: "In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad slave of Allâh and His Messenger to Muqawqas, vicegerent of Egypt. Peace be upon him who follows true guidance. Thereafter, I invite you to accept Islam. Therefore, if you want security, accept Islam. If you accept Islam, Allâh, the Sublime, shall reward you doubly. But if you refuse to do so, you will bear the burden of the transgression of all the Copts.

With regards to Persia, Muslim histories further recount that at the beginning of the seventh year of migration, Muhammad appointed one of his officers, Abdullah Huzafah Sahmi Qarashi, to carry his letter to Khosrau II inviting him to Islam: "In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to the great Kisra of Iran. Peace be upon him, who seeks truth and expresses belief in Allah and in His Prophet and testifies that there is no god but Allah and that He has no partner, and who believes that Muhammad is His servant and Prophet. Under the Command of Allah, I invite you to Him. He has sent me for the guidance of all people so that I may warn them all of His wrath and may present the unbelievers with an ultimatum. Embrace Islam so that you may remain safe. And if you refuse to accept Islam, you will be responsible for the sins of the Magi." [Tabaqat-i Kubra, vol. I, page 360; Tarikh-i Tabari, vol. II, pp. 295, 296; Tarikh-i Kamil, vol. II, page 81 and Biharul Anwar, vol. XX, page 389]

- these people do not have the time to read long letters.
- the letters should be short when writing to important people.
- Shaikh got a letter from a Pakistani sister:
- the letter was fifty pages!
- brothers letters were one or two pages,
- but sisters go into lots of details.
- Women make the best spies because women are detailed.
- men overlook things.
- Women have detailed minds. Men don’t have time for details.
- So Suleiman’s letter to Bilqis was very short and straight to the point.
- why? - because Allah told you in Surah Ahzaab 33:70-71:

O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. (Al-Ahzab 33:70)

He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger (SAW) he has indeed achieved a great achievement (i.e. he will be saved from the Hell-fire and made to enter Paradise). (Al-Ahzab 33:71)

- many people beat around the bush:
- why? : because people are wimps with no balls!
- people 'beat around the bush'
- leading people on, you are not allowed to lead people on.
- if a man proposes to you and you are not interested. Tell it straight!
- when you beat around the bush: you waste time,
- lead people on and fear the creation instead of the Creator.

Sulaiman made the letter short and straight to the point.
-Does Allah "beat around the bush"?
-No. Allah said:

Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of Islam, the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and Al-Mushrikûn will abide in the Fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures. (Al-Baiyinah 98:6)

- this is the ayah that got Shaikh into trouble
- for giving tafseer in Belmarsh prison.
- if a kaafir asks you: "if I don’t embrace Islam,
- do I have any chance of going to paradise"?
- the answer should be NO: why tell them 'maybe'!
- you are a caller to Islam: you have to speak straight to the point.
- So Sulaiman told Bilqis:

"Be you not exalted against me, but come to me as Muslims (true believers who submit to Allah with full submission)'" (An-Naml 27:31)

She said: "O chiefs! Advise me in (this) case of mine. I decide no case till you are present with me." (An-Naml 27:32)

4. SHURA IS IMPORTANT

- this ayah tells you the importance of Shura.
- this was a serious matter: As Sulaiman
- was telling her to change her religion.
- Even tho she was the Queen and she owned her subjects,
- she didn’t want to make a decision on her own.

They said: "We have great strength, and great ability for war, but it is for you to command; so think over what you will command." (An-Naml 27:33)

- This is nothing but a delusion.
- this proves they didn’t know the fiqh al waqi' (current events)
- no-one could stand up against Sulaiman.
- He had a great army.
- when you don’t know the fiqh al waqi' you make the wrong decisions.

She said: "Verily! Kings, when they enter a town (country), they despoil it, and make the most honourable amongst its people low. And thus they do. (An-Naml 27:34)

- many scholars use this ayah as evidence to say
- that 'kingship' is haraam in Islam.
- what if the Muslim leader becomes a king?
- can you say it’s an illegitimate leadership?
- the answer is:
- if the king governs by Islamic Shariah law,
- does Jihad and preaches al walaa wal baraa
- then his kingship is legit.
- Harun Arrasheed was a king and a righteous king.
- most kings will do anything to hold on to power!
- when a king dies the son takes over:
- what if the son is a womanizer and drinker? - leadership cannot be imposed
- Mu’awiyah was the first king: when Mu’awiyah died Yazeed became the king.
- the three Abdullah’s were candidates for the caliphate.
- it would have been better for one of them to take over not Yazeed.
- the perfect candidate was Abdullah ibn Zubair
- Abdullah ibn Abbaas was too soft;
- Abdullah ibn Umar was too harsh.
- because he was the perfect candidate he was killed by Hajjaj.

Abdullah Ibn Umar was on Hajj running between Safa and Marwa,
-and he shot him with a poisoned arrow in the leg.
- those MADkhalis say you can’t make takfir on the rulers
- and they use Hajjaj as an excuse.
- many Sahabahs made takfir on Hajjaj. - but not all of them.
- Hajjaj ibn Yusuf At-thaqafi.
- you the MADkhalis keep saying you are following the Salaf: make up your minds!
- The house of Saud:
- on camera they say they won’t co-operate with America to conquer Iraq:
- But Donald Rumsfeld said publicly...
-'they gave us all the help we needed'
- they allow all the air space etc
- when Iraq was conquered, thousands of Muslim girls-were raped by kuffaar.
- Bilqis said: Kings whenever they enter a land they corrupt it.

She said: "Verily! Kings, when they enter a town (country), they despoil it, and make the most honourable amongst its people low. And thus they do. (An-Naml 27:34)

- they corrupt it why? - because they will do anything
- in their power to hold on to power.
- they take the petrol from house of Saud to conquer Iraq.
- these words:
- And thus they do. (An-Naml 27:34) - Allah gave Bilqis
- the stamp of approval to what she had said.
- one of the kings of Saud (before king Faisal)
- was a womanizer and drinker:
- and many other shameful things. - he died in exile in Greece
- when Umar was stabbed: he said I will call
- the names of six people, chose one of these to be your khalif.
- my son Ibn Umar will sit in the meeting to advise you
- but he can’t be the caliph
- when Ali was stabbed by Abu Muljim (al-Khawarij):
- they realized that Ali was going to die, they said:
- "Oh Ali, we shall choose your son Hassan to be khalif"
- Bilqis knew what took place in royal palaces. - that’s why she said:

"Verily! Kings, when they enter a town (country), they despoil it, and make the most honourable amongst its people low. (An-Naml 27:34)

5. BILQIS WAS wise/intelligent.

"But verily! I am going to send him a present, and see with what (answer) the messengers return." (An-Naml 27:35)

- Sulaiman made the first move.
- Its like a chess game, we will see who gets check-mated.
- So Bilqis sent a gift, to see what his response would be.

So when (the messengers with the present) came to Sulaiman (Solomon), he said: "Will you help me in wealth? What Allah has given me is better than that which He has given you! Nay, you rejoice in your gift!" (An-Naml 27:36)

Sulaiman said

-they were the ones mesmerized with gifts not him
-that Allah gave him enough
-and so he declined the gift
-if Queen Elizabeth should give someone a gift,
-the person will hang it and show everybody
-only the mujahideen will reject her gift
-the queen of Denmark, Sweden is not known
-the kingships in other countries are not important as the one in England
-the British Monarchy is the well known one
-so if Elizabeth II gave us a wall painting,
-we’re expected to hang it on our front wall
-Sulaiman refused the queen's gift ...
-this is shocking because most people do not refuse royal gifts

6. WHEN THE KUFFAAR WENT ON A JOURNEY, THEY HAD AN AMEER
-the importance of leadership was understood by the kuffaar
-the chief of her messengers brought the gift back to her

[Then Sulaiman (Solomon) said to the chief of her messengers who brought the present]: "Go back to them. We verily shall come to them with hosts that they cannot resist, and we shall drive them out from there in disgrace, and they will be abased." (An-Naml 27:37)

Ibn Umar said: Abu Moosa Al-Ashari gave a mat to Umar's wife Aatikah Bint Zayd, and I think that it was one cubit and a handspan. Umar saw it with her and said, Where did you get this from She said, Abu Moosa Al-Ashari gave it to me. Umar took it and hit her with it, then he said, Bring Abu Moosa to me. So he was brought to him and he (Abu Moosa Al-Ashari) said, Don’t be hasty, O Ameer Al-Mumineen (Leader of the believers). Umar said, What made you give gifts to my womenfolk Then Umar took it and hit him with it, and said, Take it, we have no need for it. [Taken from 'Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab, His Life And Times, By 'Ali Muhammad As-Sallaabi, Vol. I, Pp. 134-135 & 251]

THE 10 ISLAMIC RULES ON GIFTS

There are 2 opinions as to why Umar gave back the gift:
1st opinion: Umar was jealous. His jealousy was provoked.
2nd opinion: Abu Musa used to work as a governor for Umar,
- so he didn't want people to talk about this
- and say that Umar gave Abu Musa the governors job
- because he was a family friend.
- the 2nd opinion is the correct opinion.
- its halal for a man to give a woman a gift.
- Umar didn’t want people to gossip

If I were invited to a meal of a sheep foot I would accept, and if I were given a sheep foot as a gift, I would accept. [Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5178)]

1. THE PROPHET (SAW) USED TO ACCEPT GIFTS.

- the sunnah is to accept gifts.
- to give opportunity to your brother/sister to get barakah.
- to spread love between the brotherhood/sisterhood.
- In another hadith:

Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar (RH) said in Fath al-Baari (9/245-246): It was narrated that Aaishah (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) would accept gifts and reciprocate for them. [Narrated by al-Bukhaari (2585)]

2. THE PROPHET (SAW) ALSO GAVE GIFTS - THIS IS GOOD ADAAB.

Abd-Allaah ibn Masood (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: Accept invitations, do not refuse gifts and do not beat the Muslims. [Narrated by Ahmad in al-Musnad (1/404), and classed as Hasan by the editors of al-Musnad]

Here there are 3 instructions:

- accepting invitations: you can only turn down the invitation
- if the party will involve haraam
- (music / free-mixing etc)
- You are allowed to accept gifts from the kuffaar.

Umar (RA) gave a hullah (suit) to his mushrik brother in Makkah, as was narrated by al-Bukhaari (2619)

3. WE ARE ALLOWED TO ACCEPT A GIFT FROM THE KUFFAAR

-with all rules, there are exceptions and clarifications .. see below:

- The Rasool (saw) accepted Maria (from the Coptic king).
- she was so beautiful that when she arrived Aisha became jealous.
- the scholars of Islam agreed that you are allowed to accept
- from kuffaar and give gifts to kuffaar.
- Umar gave a suit to his kaafir brother

4. WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE GIFTS TO THE KUFFAAR ON OR FOR THEIR KAAFIR FESTIVALS
- such as Easter, Divali, Christmas etc.

5. GIVING A KAAFIR A GIFT ON HIS BIRTHDAY IS BIDAH.
- but giving a gift to a kaafir on xmas day is kufr.

6. IF A KAAFIR GIVES YOU A GIFT ON CHRISTMAS: YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ACCEPT IT.
- Some scholars quote 60:8 to say we can accept gifts on kaafir holidays

Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity. (Al-Mumtahinah 60:8)

- the correct opinion is that you cannot accept gifts from kuffaar on xmas day.
- if you imitate a people you become one of them.
- can you eat the food of the kuffaar on xmas day?
- you can eat it if the meat is halal.
- but if its slaughtered for the occasions of Christmas day, then its haraam.
- if they make an effort to buy halal meat for you, you can eat with them .
- your family and those who are sympathizers of ISLAM

7. IF YOU GIVE GIFTS TO A FIANCÉ
- and she changes her mind: You can take back your gifts, its not haraam.

8. IF A KAAFIR GIVES YOU A CHRISTMAS GIFT
- (your family and those who are sympathizers of ISLAM)
- the scholars say its not haraam for you to take the gift.
- it is haraam for you to GIVE a gift on xmas but not to ACCEPT a gift.
- Ali accepted gift from a fire worshipper?

9. A MUSLIM GIRL SHOULD NOT ACCEPT GIFTS FROM A MAN UNLESS HE IS HER FIANCÉ.
- by you accepting a gift from a man whom you are not interested in
- you are leading him on.
- you are not allowed to accept the gift.
- if you were the Qaadi (judge) and you are
- called to judge between two families,
- one of the families gives a gift its not allowed to accept;
- its bribery.
- trainers = sneakers [we do not know this]
- you lend your Muslim brother a thousand dollars,
- he pays you back the money with a pair of sneakers,
- (as a gift) you have to ask if its ribaa; that he’s paying you,
- he tells you its not , it is merely a gift.
- to show his appreciation for your generosity.
- Some gifts are bribery, blackmail, ribaa; not every gift is innocent.
- ingratiate = to put someone in your debt

Abu Musa Muhammad ibn Muthanna reported from Abu Aamir Aqadiy, from Abu Zib, from his uncle, Harith ibn Abdur Rahman, from Abu Salamah (RA) from Abdullah ibn Amri that the Prophet (SAW) cursed both the receiver and the giver of bribe. [Tirmidhi 1342, Abu Dawud 3580, Ibn e Majah 2313, Ahmed 7003]

- you have a beautiful daughter: you suspect that a man
- is interested in your daughter
- (but you do not like him, and have no intention
- of marrying your daughter to him) ,
- he gives you a gift to ingratiate himself
- You are not allowed to accept this gift.
- because you are leading him on and giving him the wrong impression
- these are the Islamic etiquettes of gifts.

10. IF A KAAFIR GIVES YOU A GIFT, TELLING YOU TO LEAVE OFF SOMETHING FROM YOUR ISLAM:
- this is black mail, you are not allowed to accept this gift.
- the British PM, David Cameron said:
- any country that doesn't legalize gay sex, we will cut off our aid.
- the Jamaicans said: were not ready for that.
- they are dictators and bullies. "no money till you go funny"
- we will never accept this culture.
- even the Jamaicans are Christians but they will not accept this culture.

ANDREW HOLNESS, PM OF JAMAICA:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/24/andrew-holness-prime-minister-jamaica_n_1027790.html

WHY DID SULAIMAN REFUSE THE GIFT OF BILQIS?
- because the gift was to stop the military expedition against Yemen.
- to surgically remove shirk from the society
- this gift was a bribe.
- or for her to ingratiate herself to Sulaiman

So when (the messengers with the present) came to Sulaiman (Solomon), he said: "Will you help me in wealth? What Allah has given me is better than that which He has given you! Nay, you rejoice in your gift!" (An-Naml 27:36)

THERE ARE TWO OPINIONS OF HOW TO PAY ZAKAT AL -FITR.

1. grain or staple foods. [HANBALI MADHAB]
2. money (HANIFA MADHAB)
-this is the best opinion because it gives people choices what to get for themselves
-it’s also easier to store and transport

"No father can give his children a better gift than good manners." [Tirmidhi)

[Then Sulaiman (Solomon) said to the chief of her messengers who brought the present]: "Go back to them. We verily shall come to them with hosts that they cannot resist, and we shall drive them out from there in disgrace, and they will be abased." (An-Naml 27:37)
