-13- Mostalah (Hadeeth) Class by Abu Abdullah

Mostalah (Hadeeth) Class by Abu Abdullah
20th December, 2011

We must pray for Taqwa, health and happiness
-Muhammad (saw) wanted to ask someone for Nikah, so he asked if she prays and fasts
-the mum said YES ALHUMDULILLAH she does these things
-and she give alms to everyone too
-what about her health? The mum replied she was never ill
-then rasul said salaam alaikum to leave
-so she asked why you don’t want to marry her?
-then rasul said if Allah loves someone he tests them
-and the prophets are tested most, then those next and those next
-so if someone is never ill he is never tested and Allah does not love him
-rasul said so I don’t want to marry her

A man is tried according to his religion
-so don’t ever be sad if you are ill
-but don’t ask for it
-don’t ever say I want to be sick or I want to be tested
-because you may not pass the test
-this hadith is sahih

Mus’ab ibn Sa’d reported on the authority of his father (Sad (RA) ) that he asked, “O Messenger of Allah, which people will face trials most?” He said, “The Prophets, then the likes, then the likes. A man is tried according to his religion. If he is firm on his religion then the trial is severe and if he is soft in observing his religions then he is tried according to his religion. Then, the trial does not remove from the slave till he walks over earth having no sin on him.” [Tirmidhi 2406, Ibn e Majah 4023]

Another hadith in Tirmidhi
-where the rasul said he wonders about the status of a believer,
-all his affairs are good
-if Allah gives him trial he perseveres and is patient
-and if Allah gives him blessing he is thankful
-so he is always in a good state (perseverance and thankfulness)

The Prophet (SAW) also said “Wonderful are the affairs of a believer; for there is good in every affair of his; this is not the case with anyone else except a believer. If he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (Allah), thus there is good for him in it. If he suffers affliction, he endures patiently, which is good for him. Reported by Imam Muslim in his Sahih Book of Hadith from Suhayb Ibn Sinan (RA).

So you find a Muslim who is a good Muslim always smiling (like Shaikh Faisal)
-this smile is also in many faces and is called al sakinah
-it is not a laugh but a smile, a reflection of what is in the heart
-he is content and there is equilibrium inside
-there is nothing you want and don’t have; you're at a place where you are CONTENT
-a non- Muslim may be a good person but he does not have the sakinah
-only Muslims have it, because they are always happy

There are many poor people who are around Muslims
-they are meek, content and quiet
-but the kaafir, when he needs something he wants it frantically (not with sabr)

-the government was scared all the time so a man was punished often
-But he was never angry - he was still meek and smiling
-he might say "I might not be available from January on...."we asked him why?
-he said because I might get arrested by the government
-he prepared his friends that he might be taken away by the government
-this was a good chance for him, he said, because in prison, he can memorize Surahs

There was a woman who was sick and she was asking for relief from her disease (not a Muslimah)
-the doctor offered her a test (for cancer)
-this was in October 2011
-when she heard he wanted the test, she was frightened and started to lose weight
-the fear alone was killing her
-she didn't have Allah to call upon, as we do
-the test came out negative but,
-by the time the test came out, she was even sicker

-We can't ask Allah to kill us but give us taqwa to handle the illness
-So sakinah is our 'freedom card' in life
-as a Muslim, we should take this card with us always

-First there is a bad trend I want you to be aware of
-It is Availability or presence of books in the market and certain ulama
-who are used as hujjah and I have seen it in the UK.
-and some of them are not even Muslim
-this is happening now

SHIA tries to market their religion by use of Hadeeth books
-so they say ‘the hadith book of’ and then give you an alim
-and because you don’t know you say Masha Allah this must be a big scholar
-but if you go to a proper Muslim with any knowledge and tell him about the book
-he will tell you i have never heard of this alim
-poor Muslims who don’t understand Islam have never heard of this book
-so all of us should warn about these circulations

And should always refer to an alim
-you should always ask Shaikh Faisal
-even if you are going to use your mobile
-ask Shaikh Faisal if the man called Qandoozy Al Hanafi = Scholar?
-Yanabeea Al Mawadda = Muslim Book?
-he will tell you no, they are not
-these are obvious

The Qandoozy Hanafi is not even Muslim
-he is not from the Hanafi Madhab
-his book was banned everywhere
-but they are bringing it out now to convince poor Muslims who don’t know

Ibn Al Sabaa Al Malki and Al Maghazelii Al Shafee
The names above are also not Muslim
-these people are mushrik rafidite
-who wrote books full of lies
-but because these names refer to our madhabs they use it to get to us

If you ask shites whether they respect Imam Malik, Shafi’i or Hanifa
-they will tell you no
-but they still use their names to infiltrate the Muslims.

Al Tabarani and Al Tabari are also names they use
-the former wrote the Mu’jams and the latter is a muffassir
-but they still use their names to fool us
-but there is a man called Muhammad ibn Rustum Al Tabari
-he is a kaafir who used to worship 12 idols

There is another alim- Ibn Al Qayem Al Jawziah
-he was an imam, shaikh ul Islam
-a student of ibn Taymiyya
-but we have Imam Al Jawzi who is different and came earlier than him
-but the names are similar

There is another Al Jawziah who is Shia
-but they use his name because it is similar to the names of our scholars
-so if you hear Shaikh Faisal saying Jawziah you think oh that’s the man
-if this man says the Imama is in the sons of Hussein you say ok and believe
-ibn Qayem was an alim and never talked about that
-and he never believed a person is infallible like the Shites do
-Be very careful with these names
-always ask Shaikh about those names even if you are going to use your mobile

-about the books and how it all started
-Al Kamaal fi Ulumul Rijaal written by Al Hafidh al Maqdisi
-this book was pruned by Imam Al Mezzi to remove the extra bits
-and called the new book Tah’theeb al Kamaal
-and later Ibn Hajar also took the book and also pruned it to perfection
-called Tah’theeb al Tahtheeb
-and then Dhahabi came and made Tad’theeb at Tahtheeb

What are they pruning?
-they are removing the excess information
-like the names of people in the book
-e.g. there are about 5 names of Abu Huraira
-Abu Bakr's real name e.g. is Uthman but it is excess information
-these information are not important and does not make any difference

Also you write Ahmad said so this person is good
-we don’t have a problem with that
-But between Ahmad and ibn Hajar or Darul Qutnee is a long period
-but if Darul Qutnee should say ibn Hajar said Ahmad said Ali said in a lecture..
-ok we know that the sanad is fine and we know it is a strong report
-so ibn Hajar comes and tells you Imam Ahmad said he is fine so leave it
-you don’t need to know about the sanad
-so they sometimes remove the sanad and that’s pruning

Imam ibn al Asaakir wrote a book called the history of Damascus
-talking about the men and the sahabah
-and he wrote chapters on the rasul, Abu Bakr, Omar, Aisha etc.
-he gives you everything about Aisha, and then Asma
-but repeats the same story about Aisha when talking about Asma
-these are excess information that we don’t need sometimes

Sometimes you get contradictory information from the ulama

-like ibn Maeen will say AT4 is good but then say he is bad again in the same book
-or in the same page sometimes, what do you do?
-and so you are in a mess as to what to do
-in this case you have to refer to ibn Hajar, and this is the pruning
-because the scholar is not a computer

Sometimes he was asked about a person and he did not remember
-if he was a good memorizer or not and so he says the man is good
-or sometimes he heard a hadith that was not word for word and he approves it
-and some years later he hears another hadith from same person
-but because it was not word for word he says that is bad
-so because of what he hears sometimes he answers that way and so you have the contradictions
-So it is someone like ibn Hajar who can judge for us

-there is a man ibn Maeen said he is good- Abdul Salam Al Herawi
-but he didn’t tell us why he is good
-by the way he does not have to tell us why
-but many other ulama say he is not good
-if they don’t give us a reason then he is good
-but if they give a reason why he is not good, then he is not good.

This person narrated a hadith called Madinat Al ilm
-the city of knowledge
-This hadith is a serpent and could never have happened
-the prophet is attributed to have said he is the city of knowledge
-and Ali is the door to the city
-this could never have come from the tongue of the rasul
-because the rasul have never boasted about his knowledge
-so would you expect him to say he is the city of knowledge?
-and not only that but Ali is the door

"I am a city of knowledge and Ali is the gate by which you pass to obtain that knowledge." (Related by Al-Haakim 3/126 and classified fabricated by Imam Bukhari)

I told you before that there is Knowledge that only Aisha can tell us
-she is the only one who can tell us what happened in the bed of rasul (saw)
-because that’s a man’s wife
-but if you say only Ali can tell us that, we will ask why?
-why only him? Did the rasul speak to Ali things that other people did not know?
-if that happens then we are not Muslims
-because we are asked to follow what is available to us
-if only Ali knew about it and did not tell any other person, then we are not to follow it
-Bukhari told us this hadith is fabricated
-so if we say the man is bad because of this hadith we have to accept
-and if ibn Maeen should say he is good then we say he made a mistake
-why? Because we have a reason to say he is bad

These rules have been set up by the scholars like ibn Hajar
-you ask about a scholar like Semak Ibn Harb and he tells you the verdict
-and he will tell you he is good but accepts dictation so we will have doubts
-you don’t have to go and read ibn Maeen's words or Bukhari's
-ibn Hajar gave us the answer
-that the man is a liar or he is good

So this is pruning of the pruning
-he removed 3 pages of the hadith of that person
-and most of the time those hadith are not necessary to be known

There is a man called Ekrema Al Qurashi
-he is the servant of ibn Abbaas
-from south Sahara, a barbar
-they are good Muslims like Tariq ibn Ziyad who conquered Spain
-when Islam went to those places some people went to Medina to learn
-Ekrema is not from Quraish but ibn Abbaas loved him so much
-he called him Ekrema al Qurashi

Ekrema is known to be open and brave
-those are his qualities and I like his hadith
-at the time people were trying to say ahlul bayt is Ali, Fatima and their children
-and remove the wives of rasul as not from ahlul bayt

Ekrema used to go to the market and say i am ready to debate anyone who said so
-and it was not easy to say such lies in the presence of Ekrema
-because he is the servant of ibn Abbaas
-and he said only the rasul's wives are ahlul bayt
-referred to in the Quran
-he even removed his master from the list

The Shia tried to assassinate his character
-but he stood up to them
-he was like Imam Ahmad or ibn Taymiyya

Bukhari includes his hadith in his book
-because he was a truthful person
-if you read how the hadith came about, you have to go through books
-how did Bukhari include this man in his book even though he was accused?
-ibn Hajar gives you the answer

Ibn Hajar also gives verdict on men and also on hadith
-so you are not just learning about men but hadith too
-that is why his book is pruning of the pruning, a wonderful book
-his book is downloadable
-and you should not ignore it from trusted websites
-like etc.

There are other books available apart from those above
-do you need to read them?
-there is one called Al Theqat meaning the trusted
-it is written by different men
-should you take that book or not?

The answer is simple and straightforward
-you don’t really have to bother about any other book
-apart from the pruning of the pruning
-because ibn Hajar will tell you what ibn Hibbaan said and how he got to that conclusion

You may find a sentence ‘wa thaqahu ibn Hibbaan’
-And then comes ibn Hajar and say in his book Al Majhool- unknown
-but initially he said he was trusted but is now saying unknown
-so you have to know this, what do you do in that case?

Ibn Hibbaan had his own way of judging men
-if the man narrated from 2 men and 2 men heard from those 2 people then is trustworthy
-this method is very lenient
-and ulama don’t open their gates that far
-they have to take hadith from trusted people and many opinions

So if only ibn Hibbaan gave this man trust then we don’t have to take
-because his method was lax
-and we are not that lenient in hadith especially if it is aqeeda
-we don’t say he is bad but that was his method

If only Jawzajaani said someone is bad and Imam Ahmad said he is good then the person is good
-remember the former is very strict
-and Imam Ahmad is the centre and very fair and just
-he will never call someone bad who should be called good

But there are ulama that are very strict
-like Yahya ibn Saed Qattaan
-if someone quotes from an actor he will refuse that hadith
-he said he does not quote from an actor
-he was very strict

So ibn Hajar and Dhahabi are very fair
-they don’t go for or against somebody, they give you the real verdict
-so you should go to them, and with that you don’t need other books
-like that of ibn Hibbaan or Imam Raazi

Because ibn Hajar did the work for you
-he put all the information in the mixer and made juice for you
-and if you take the juice you will be ok insha Allah
-but going to all those books is not ok
-it’s not like football to go through all those books
-there should be a balance and that is ibn Hajar

There is a book called Mezan Al Eatedal fee Naqd Al Rejal
-written by Imam Dhahabi, just like ibn Hajar
-so if you want to get the information you read 2 books
-Al Kashef, Dhahabi and Tah’theeb at Tah’theeb by ibn Hajar
-they are really for us
-and maybe you will also need Mezan Al Eatedal
-because it has the 9 books
-2 sahih, 1 musnad, i muwa’ta and 5 sunans

All the men mentioned in the 9 books are in those books
-so what if they are not mentioned in those 2 books
-There is a book called Mustadraq Al Hakeem
-this book was written by Abu Abdullah Al Naizaboori
-Al Haakim is not his real name, it means reverend
-he wrote Al Mustadraq when he was very young

He was about 300 years after Bukhari
-so let’s read, Bukhari said so and so in a chain
-that’s one chain with 6 names
-if this chain has narrated another hadith, why did Bukhari not write it?
-Hakeem said if Bukhari accepts A - B - C - D's hadith
-then any hadith by A - B - C - D is also sahih
-that’s Hakeem's method
-4 names narrated one hadith
-so he will go back to the books narrated by those 4 men
-and anything they narrate again is accepted
-because the first 2 were accepted

This method is not complete because Bukhari had other conditions
-let’s take only one condition, 4 names

Haakim produced this book young but completed the 2/3 of it when he was very old

-and then left it and called it the Mustadraq
-that book is not accepted in the least

Don’t ever accept when someone tells you Al Hakeem said it is sahih and Dhahabi agreed
Remind me to talk about this point for you will need to know this especially when debating the Shia

1. I want to know what Shaikh Abu Abdullah's view is on Shaikh Al Albani. Is it true that he was self taught? Is he reliable in authenticating and weakening ahadith?

-Imam Albani was a major Imam
-i am not a shaikh but just a student of knowledge
-Imam Albani was self- taught
-but is he reliable in authenticating hadith? NO, he is not
-in weakening hadith he is reliable
-he uses a method to authenticate hadith
-and i call it authenticating the scrap with scrap

2 liars tell you the same thing, and then it must be true
-this is haram and ulama said so
-a liar cannot authenticate a hadith
-the hadith has to come from a reliable source
-but his method was not like that
-he uses a weak person to make another weak person strong
-2 mistakes don’t make right

-because he must have looked for all excuses to make the hadith sahih
-so if he can’t find it nobody can make it sahih
-however he was affected by the politics of his time
-he authenticated some hadith for political reasons which were not authentic
-like that of Hajjaj al Yusuf
