Bismillah…

To tell if a Surah is revealed in Makkah or Madina
- this is easy to identify because when a Surah starts with letters
- such as this Surah, it is a Makkan Surah

AYAH 5

The Most Beneficent (Allah) Istawa (rose over) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). (Ta-Ha 20:5)

- we refuted the arguments yesterday, those who say 'Throne means Glory’
- and that 'Allah is everywhere'
- they say, we are trying to put a limit on Allah (those who say Allah is everywhere)
- and those who don’t believe Allah is above the 'Arsh, they will 'try' and checkmate you
- by asking you; ‘where was Allah, before Allah created the 'Arsh?’
- don’t ANSWER THIS QUESTION
- say 'Allahu alem'
- don’t checkmate yourself by thinking you know everything
- sometimes it’s best to say Allah knows best, and you don’t know
- if a person has Qur’an and Sunnah on their side what makes you think you can defeat them
- a debate is like a boxing match, you bring your hujjah, I bring my hujjah
- until someone gets knocked out

Narrated Abu Said: The Prophet said, 'People will be struck unconscious on the Day of Resurrection and I will be the first to regain consciousness, and behold! There I will see Moses holding one of the pillars of Allah's Throne. I will wonder whether he has become conscious before me of he has been exempted, because of his unconsciousness at the Tur (mountain) which he received (on the earth)." [Sahih Bukhari (4/153) No. 3398]

AYAH 6

To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth, and all that is between them, and all that is under the soil. (Ta-Ha 20:6)

- under the soil in this ayah means, under the earth
- this ayah is similar to Surah Mulk

Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things. (Al-Mulk 67:1)

AYAH 7

And if you (O Muhammad SAW) speak (the invocation) aloud, then verily, He knows the secret and that which is yet more hidden. (Ta-Ha 20:7)

- there is NO GOD besides Allah, nor is there any deity worthy of Worship

AYAH 8

Allah! Lā ilāhla illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)! To Him belong the Best Names. (Ta-Ha 20:8)

- unto Allah belongs the beautiful names
- did you know Allah is a name?
- you have to believe in Allah's name without asking, how
- because this is why Imam Malik kicked a student out of his study circle
- so you cannot ask; ‘why is Allah above the arsh’ or such questions
- Abu Hanifa used to make takfeer on people who do not believe that Allah is above the arsh
- evidence regarding the Arsh, is when Zaynab bin Jaysh boasted about her wedding

AYAH 9

And has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? (Ta-Ha 20:9)

- did the story about the Shiites come to you?
- did the story about the Mu'tazilites come to you?
- did the story of the Saudi Salafis come to you?

AYAH 10

When he saw a fire, he said to his family: "Wait! Verily, I have seen a fire, perhaps I can bring you some burning brand therefrom, or find some guidance at the fire." (Ta-Ha 20:10)

- this ayah resembles:

(Remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his household: "Verily! I have seen a fire, I will bring you from there some information, or I will bring you a burning brand, that you may warm yourselves." (An-Naml 27:7)

But when he came to it, he was called: "Blessed is whosoever is in the fire, and whosoever is round about it! And glorified be Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (An-Naml 27:8)

- the Quran resembles the Quran
- Ibn Abbas said it wasn’t a real fire; it was a light coming from the heavens
- what is the meaning of, "Blessed is whosoever is in the fire,
- and whosoever is round about it”?
- the tafseer of this, is that the angels are in the fire

AYAH 11

And when he came to it (the fire), he was called by name: "O Musa (Moses)! (Ta-Ha 20:11)

AYAH 12

"Verily! I am your Lord! So take off your shoes, you are in the sacred valley, Tuwa. (Ta-Ha 20:12)

Ibn Mas’ud (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said, “On the day, his Lord spoke to him, Musa had on him a woollen cloak and a woolen robe, a woollen small cap and woollen trousers. His sandals were made of the hide of a dead donkey.” [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/224) No. 1734]

THE QUESTION HERE IS, WHY DID ALLAH TELL HIM TO TAKE OFF HIS SHOES?

THERE ARE TWO OPINIONS REGARDING THIS:
1. IT WAS A SACRED VALLEY SO YOU SHOULD TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES

2. THE OTHER OPINION IS THAT HIS SANDALS WERE MADE OUT OF DONKEY SKIN, AND THE DONKEY WASN’T SLAUGHTERED PROPERLY

- you can wear any type of leather except the pig skin
- so out of the two opinions the most valid opinion is the second one
- Allah said in surah 28:30

So when he reached it (the fire), he was called from the right side of the valley, in the blessed place from the tree: "O Musa (Moses)! Verily! I am Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)! (Al-Qasas 28:30)

- Allah said in surah 28:30 that the valley was sacred
- are you allowed to pray with your shoes on?
- yes you can, if you're outdoors
- but you cannot take your shoes into the masjids and pray with your shoes on in there
- the Muslims pay a lot for the carpets of the masjids
- so you shouldn’t wear shoes into the masjids
- shaikh in the UK, experienced with people walking the filthy streets of London
- and they walked into masjids and prayed and they used the hujjah
- that you can pray with your shoes on

AYAH 13

"And I have chosen you. So listen to that which is inspired to you. (Ta-Ha 20:13)

AYAH 14

"Verily! I am Allah! La ilaha illa Ana (none has the right to be worshipped but I), so worship Me, and perform As Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) for My Remembrance. (Ta-Ha 20:14)

Amr ibn Shu’ayb from his father that his grandfather said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Teach your children to pray when they are seven years old, and smack them if they do not pray when they are ten years old, and separate them in their beds.” [Sunan Abu Dawud (1/133) No. 495 and Musnad Ahmad (2/180) No. 6689]

- the first obligation on a person who reaches puberty you should testify the shahadah,
- but not if you’re a born Muslims
- why you don’t have to do this, is because, when you're in salah and you recite the tashahud
- you are taking your shahadah
- a born Muslim does not need to re-take their shahadah because they do this when they pray
- but others should when they hit puberty

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: When the Prophet sent Muadh to Yemen, he said to him, "You are going to a nation from the people of the Scripture, so let the first thing to which you will invite them, be the Tauhid of Allah. If they learn that, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them, five prayers to be offered in one day and one night. And if they pray, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them Zakat of their properties and it is to be taken from the rich among them and given to the poor. And if they agree to that, then take from them Zakat but avoid the best property of the people." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 9, Book 93, Hadith #469]

- that’s why when the prophet (SAW) sent Mu'adh ibn Jabbal to Yemen,
- he told them to testify the shahadah
- this is the most important thing
- if you have sins that reach the sky, Allah will forgive, unless you commit shirk

On the authority of Anas (RA) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say, "Allah the Almighty has said: ‘O Son of Adam, as long as you invoke Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O Son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and you then asked forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you. O Son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the Earth, and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it [too].’" [Sunan Tirmidhi (5/548) No. 3540]

- this ayah, is similar to:

Recite (O Muhammad SAW) what has been revealed to you of the Book (the Qur'an), and perform As-Salat (Iqamat as' Salat). Verily, As-Salat (the prayer) prevents from Al-Fahsha' (i.e. great sins of every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) and Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every kind of evil wicked deed, etc.) and the remembering (praising, etc.) of (you by) Allah (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising, etc.) Allah in prayers, etc.]. And Allah knows what you do. (Al-'Ankabut 29:45)

- the greatest thing under the heavens is for you to do, dhikr Allah
- remembrance of Allah
- so Allah commanded Musa, to remember Him
- Shaikh has met people in the UK, who are Shiites and don’t pray, Shaikh asked
- why don’t you pray he quoted, surah 29:45
- because dhikr is the greatest thing, he does not need to pray
- then you have other people who don’t pray, and you ask them why?
- they say let there be no compulsion in the religion
- everyone puts a spin on the ayahs
- Ahmed ibn Hanbal, Imam Malik and Imam Shafi'i said your heads gone,
- if the iqaamah is announced and you don’t pray
- only Imam Abu Hanifa said, you can flog them

Narrated By Anas: The Prophet (SAW) said, "If anyone forgets a prayer he should pray that prayer when he remembers it. There is no expiation except to pray the same." Then he recited: "Establish prayer for My (i.e. Allah's) remembrance." (20:14). [al-Bukhari (597) and Muslim (684)]

- the Rasool (SAW) when salah comes, and you were sleeping and you missed it,
- you have to pray it, when you wake up
- or if you forget, you should perform salah when you remember
- there is no excuse
- those of you who slipped into jahiliyah, and you’re a born Muslim
- and you missed 5-10 years of salah
- Imam Abu Hanifa said you owe them to Allah you have to make it up
- but Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal said you don’t, you repent

AYAH 15

"Verily, the Hour is coming and My Will is to keep it hidden that every person may be rewarded for that which he strives. (Ta-Ha 20:15)

- Allah is, 'Maliki yawmid deen'
- this has 3 meanings to it

...Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission?...(Al-Baqarah 2:255)

- Allah said he hides the date of judgment day from us, and we will get what we deserve
- you will not get what you didn’t strive for

And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad), (An-Najm 53:39)

Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. (At-Tur 52:16)

“...O My servants, it is but your deeds that I account for you, and then recompense you for. So he who finds good, let him praise Allah, and he who finds other than that, let him blame no one but himself.” [Sahih Muslim (4/1994) No. 2577]

AYAH 16

"Therefore, let not the one who believes not therein (i.e. in the Day of Resurrection, Reckoning, Paradise and Hell, etc.), but follows his own lusts, divert you therefrom, lest you perish. (Ta-Ha 20:16)

- Allah is telling you the characteristics of those who don’t believe in judgment day
- Allah is telling us just 2 types of characteristics here

1. THEY DIVERT PEOPLE FROM THE PATH OF ALLAH
- Allah warned us of such people in surah 45:23

Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god), and Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember? (Al-Jathiyah 45:23)

- Allah warned us of such people in surah 45:23
- this man who does not believe in judgment day,
- why is he so keen in diverting people away from the path of Allah
- because misery likes company
- don’t follow him
- if a man is depressed and is on anti-depressants,
- do you think he wants you to be happy? no

2. HE USES MEDIA TO DIVERT PEOPLE

AYAH 17

"And what is that in your right hand, O Musa (Moses)?" (Ta-Ha 20:17)

- this is a rhetorical question that Allah is asking Musa
- a rhetorical question is something that does not require an answer
- and when you want to checkmate them ask them questions,
- you know the answer to, i.e. a rhetorical question

AYAH 18

He said: "This is my stick, whereon I lean, and wherewith I beat down branches for my sheep, and wherein I find other uses." (Ta-Ha 20:18)

- the question in this ayah, is what is the other use of this stick
- the other use is to hit a kaafir on the head if he tries to rob him
- highway robbery has been a problem throughout time

"To carry a stick is an example of the Prophets" is fabricated, in Silsilah al-Ahaadeeth ad-Da'eefah.

- a fabricated hadith, is one that 'the rod is a tradition of the prophets'
- Imam Shafi'i carried a stick when he reached the age of 40
- you can carry a stick
- but don’t make it a sunnah
- it is optional, you can if you want to

AYAH 19

(Allah) said: "Cast it down, O Musa (Moses)!" (Ta-Ha 20:19)

AYAH 20

He cast it down, and behold! It was a snake, moving quickly. (Ta-Ha 20:20)

- this ayah resembles surah 27:10

"And throw down your stick!" But when he saw it moving as if it were a snake, he turned in flight, and did not look back. (It was said): "O Musa (Moses)! Fear not, verily! The Messengers fear not in front of Me. (An-Naml 27:10)

- the scholars say it was a python snake, this is a huge snake
- not only was it a huge snake, but it was moving quickly
- for a human to be huge and move fast it is shocking
- it may not be possible for someone heavy weighted to move fast..
- so Musa ran away, when he saw his stick turn into a snake

AYAH 21

Allah said:"Grasp it, and fear not, We shall return it to its former state, (Ta-Ha 20:21)

- Allah said grasp it, we will reform it back to how it was

AYAH 22

"And press your (right) hand to your (left) side, it will come forth white (and shining), without any disease as another sign, (Ta-Ha 20:22)

- the stick is one sign, and his shining hand was another sign
- Allah gave Musa 9 signs to take to the Pharaoh

Ibn ‘Abbas, Mujahid, ‘Ikrimah, Ash-Sha’bi and Qatadah said: "They are his hand, his staff, the years of famine, the failure of the crops, the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs and the blood.'' [Tafseer Ibn Katheer (5/124)]

THE 9 SIGNS ALLAH ‘TALA GAVE TO THE PHARAOH:
1. THE ROD
2. THE SHINING HAND
3. THE YEAR OF FAMINE
4. THE YEAR OF DROUGHT
5. THE DEATH OF HUMANS AND ANIMALS
6. THE LOCUSTS
7. THE LICE
8. THE FROGS
9. THE BLOOD

AYAH 23

"That We may show you (some) of Our Greater Signs. (Ta-Ha 20:23)

- when Musa went to the Pharaoh; he was proud and arrogant
- like how the kuffaar of nowadays are
- Allah said:

And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). (Al-Lail 92:11)

- people who are wealthy, they think their wealth is sufficient, and they do not need Allah
- sometimes these people blow their money, on women, alcohol, gambling etc

Allah spoke about this:

He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" (Al-Balad 90:6)

Thinks he that none sees him? (Al-Balad 90:7)

- they boast that they blew [spent] money
- if you blew half a millions pounds on gambling, chasing girls and on alcohol etc
- you should be ashamed, not proud
- why are you bragging about it? you should be ashamed
- so when a man is wealthy he says, I don’t need Allah
- Richard Dawkins says only poor people believe in God
- this is not true, Americans (some) believe in God

The God Delusion is a 2006 bestselling non-fiction book by English biologist Richard Dawkins: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_God_Delusion

- America is a world leading economy, and maybe 95% of the people believe in God
- so to say only poor people believe in God is not true
- you have to leave Europe and travel the world
- you may then see more people who are not poor believe in God
- why is it that Islam is the fastest growing religion in Europe and America?
