This surah was revealed in Makkah
- because it begins with letters,
- all surahs that begin with letter were revealed in Makkah
- except Surah Baqarah and Al Imran.

"That We may show you (some) of Our Greater Signs. (Ta-Ha 20:23)

- these signs were meant to make pharaoh believe
- but he chose not to believe
- in another surah Allah told us that in his heart he believed in the message of Musa (AS)

And they belied them (those Ayāt) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ayāt) are from Allah, and Mûsa (Moses) is the Messenger of Allah in truth, but they disliked to obey Mûsa (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsidûn (disbelievers, disobedient to Allah, evil-doers, liars.). (An-Naml 27:14)

- emaan is of heart, tongue and limbs
- to believe in your heart alone is not enough

How many signs did Allah give to Musa to take to the pharaoh?
- he gave him nine signs

1. The rod of Musa (AS) that ate up all the other snakes
2. Radiant hand
3. Drought
4. Flood
5. Human and animal pandemic
6. Locust
7. Lice
8. Frog
9. Blood

Ibn ‘Abbas, Mujahid, ‘Ikrimah, Ash-Sha’bi and Qatadah said: "They are his hand, his staff, the years of famine, the failure of the crops, the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs and the blood.'' [Tafseer Ibn Katheer (5/124)]

When emaan enters your heart you should have tawakkul
- a wicked scholar is like pharaoh’s magicians, because they pass fatawa for the kings
- but these magicians in the time of Musa (AS) left kufr for the haqq

"Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh)! Verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience, and has behaved as an arrogant, and as a tyrant)." (Ta-Ha 20:24)

- what did Allah say about pharaoh?

Then he gathered his people and cried aloud, (An-Nazi'at 79:23)

Saying: "I am your lord, most high", (An-Nazi'at 79:24)

- Shaytan believes that there is life after death
- and that there is a day called yawmul qiyaama

[Iblīs (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." (Al-Hijr 15:36)

- you live amongst many people that do not believe in these things
- even shaytan believes in hell and heaven
- the only reason he is a kaafir is because he does not believe in Allah’s Haakimiyya

(Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblīs) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblīs said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay." (Al-A'raf 7:12)

- who is more evil; shaytan or the pharaoh?
- pharaoh is more evil because he claims Rububiyya for himself
- shaytan declares Allah is his Rabb
- but pharaoh takes lordship for himself

He said: "My Lord! I have killed a man among them, and I fear that they will kill me. (Al-Qasas 28:33)

The new Pharaoh is the President of America
- if you hate their soldiers, they hate you
- and they blame Imam Awlaki for the 13 who were killed in Fort Hood, US
- Musa killed one of the soldiers of the pharaoh
- so they planned to kill him
- Pharaoh was so evil he even killed kids, he killed so many boys
- the year he allowed boys to live, Haroon (AS) lived and another Musa (AS) lived
- Musa (AS) ran away by Allah's will to the Middle East

[Mûsa (Moses)] said: "O my Lord! Open for me my chest (grant me self-confidence, contentment, and boldness). (Ta-Ha 20:25)

- he then went back to Egypt (by the will of Allah) out of his comfort zone
- to give da'wah to the most evil man pharaoh

"And ease my task for me; (Ta-Ha 20:26)

"And make loose the knot (the defect) from my tongue, (i.e. remove the incorrectness from my speech) [That occurred as a result of a brand of fire which Mûsa (Moses) put in his mouth when he was an infant]. [Tafsir At-Tabarī, Vol. 16, Page 159]. (Ta-Ha 20:27)

- in some hadith he stutters
- if you can’t express yourself you are at a big disadvantage

Umm Salamah (RA) reported: Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "I am only a human being, and you people have disputes. May be someone amongst you can present his case in a more eloquent and convincing manner than the other, and I give my judgment in his favor according to what I hear. Beware! If ever I give (by error) somebody something of his brother's right then he should not take it as I have only, given him a piece of Fire." [al-Bukhari (6967) and Muslim (1713)]

- did you know the prophet (SAW) said "some speech is magic"

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: 'Two men came from the East and addressed the people who wondered at their eloquent speeches. On that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Some eloquent speech is as effective as magic."' [Sahih Bukhari (7/19) No. 5146]

- a man can be speaking kufr but because he is good in how he speaks
- he can lead you to the hell fire
- Louis Farrakhan preaches that ‘Allah tala is a man’
- he preaches rubbish but people listen to his lies

"Am I not better than this one [Mûsa (Moses)], who is Mahīn [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly? (Az-Zukhruf 43:52)

He (pharaoh) called the prophet of Allah despicable
- this is what you can expect from a taghoot
- look at what they do to the prophet (SAW), they draw pictures etc of him
- and call him many different things
- if you are a da'ee and you can’t express yourself properly,
- people are going to use this against you
- they will say this man is not educated and he is an idiot etc.
- pharaoh did not even call Musa (AS) by his name 43:52
- but called him such name, and he is the prophet of Allah!

"That they understand my speech, (Ta-Ha 20:28)

- Musa (AS) wanted people to understand his speech because he was sincere

"And appoint for me a helper from my family, (Ta-Ha 20:29)

"Hārûn (Aaron), my brother; (Ta-Ha 20:30)

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that; A'ishah went out intending to perform Umrah and stopped to camp among some Bedouins. While she was among them she heard a man say, "Which brother in this life was the most beneficial to his brother!'' The people said, "We do not know.'' The man said, "By Allah, I know.'' A'ishah said, "I said to myself about his swearing, that he should not swear such an oath, singling himself out as knowing what person was of most benefit to his brother.'' The man said, "It is Musa, when he asked for Prophethood to be bestowed upon his brother.'' Then A'ishah said, "By Allah, he has spoken truthfully.'' [Tafseer Ibn Abi Hatim (7/2422) No. 13427 and Tafseer Ibn Katheer (5/283)]

- no brother helped his brother more than Musa (AS) helped his brother Haroon (AS)
- he begged Allah (SWT) to give his brother Haroon prophethood
- the greatest barakah in this dunya is prophethood

"Increase my strength with him, (Ta-Ha 20:31)

- people will say if his own wife believes and follows in him he has to be a good man
- he had members from his own family
- for you to have a helper from your own family this is security for you
- the prophet (SAW) had Hamza his uncle from his family
- also his wife Khadija

Jabir (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The master of the martyrs is Hamza ibn Abdul Mattalib, and a man who stands (in front of) an oppressive ruler and enjoins the good and forbids the evil and so is killed for it." [Mustadrak al-Haakim (3/215) No. 4884]

"And let him share my task (of conveying Allāh's Message and Prophethood), (Ta-Ha 20:32)

The tafseer is let him be my consultant in making crucial decisions

"That we may glorify You much, (Ta-Ha 20:33)

"And remember You much, (Ta-Ha 20:34)

"Verily! You are of us Ever a Well-Seer." (Ta-Ha 20:35)

Allāh said: "You are granted your request, O Mûsa (Moses)! (Ta-Ha 20:36)

"And indeed We conferred a favour on you another time (before). (Ta-Ha 20:37)

"When We inspired your mother with that which We inspired. (Ta-Ha 20:38)

"Saying: 'Put him (the child) into the Tabût (a box or a case or a chest) and put it into the river (Nile), then the river shall cast it up on the bank, and there, an enemy of Mine and an enemy of his shall take him.' And I endued you with love from Me, in order that you may be brought up under My Eye, (Ta-Ha 20:39)

What does this mean?

…in order that you may be brought up under My Eye, (Ta-Ha 20:39)

Abu `Imran Al-Jawni said, "This means, `You will be raised under Allah's Eye.''' [Tafseer Ibn Abi Hatim (7/2422) No. 13431 and Tafseer Ibn Katheer (5/284)]

The tafseer: I made all of mankind love you
- also only Allah 'tala can put love in the heart of someone for someone else
- money can't buy love
- when your mother put you (Musa) in a basket, she acted against her motherly instincts
- so there are Mu'tazilites who believe Musa's mother was a prophetess
- but my shaikhs told me this opinion is not valid
- bees get inspiration, as well; how else did they know how to make honey? order that you may be brought up under My Eye, (Ta-Ha 20:39)

- when Allah 'tala spoke about EYE he always spoke about it SINGULAR or PLURAL (eyes)
- those who say Allah 'tala has two eyes (today's scholars) quote a hadeeth from Bukhari

'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) said: One day the Messenger of Allah (SAW) mentioned Al-Masih Dajjal (the Antichrist) in the presence of the people and said, "Verily, Allah is not one-eyed but Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal is blind in the right eye which looks like a swollen grape." [al-Bukhari (7127) and Muslim (169)]

- the scholars who say Allah has two eyes; use that hadeeth as their evidence

(Allāh) said: "O Iblīs (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands. Are you too proud (to fall prostrate to Adam) or are you one of the highly exalted?" (Sad 38:75)

They use this ayah to says He (SWT) has two hands
- those who say Allah 'tala has FEET
- be like the Sahabah - they read it, they believe it, and then they leave it

Some faces that Day shall be Nādirah (shining and radiant). (Al-Qiyamah 75:22)

Looking at their Lord (Allāh); (Al-Qiyamah 75:23)

If you say ALLAH IS EVERYWHERE then you're saying He is in unholy places
- [toilets, casinos, brothels]

Ja'far Ibn Abdullah narrated: We were with Malik Ibn Anas when a man came to him and said: “O Abu Abdullah (Allah said) 'Ar-Rahman upon the Throne Istawa' (20:5), how was His Istiwa? Imam Malik inclined his head and was silent until the sweat of fever covered his brow, then he looked up and said: "Istiwa is not unknown, the Kayf (how) is incomprehendable, believing in it is wajib (obligatory), and asking about it is bid'ah (innovation), and I do not think that you are anything but an innovator." Then he ordered that the man be expelled. [Abu-Naeem Al-Asbahani in 'Hilyatul-Awliya wa Tabaqat Al-Asfiya' (Vol. 6, pg. 325-326)]

- don't ask how is [Allah over the Arsh, for example]
- how He does things is unknown, but to believe it is compulsory
- and to ask about it is a bid'ah

Some of us are barren, or have a deformed child
- there was a man who came back from war and had a deformed child and killed it
- the case was dismissed because they said he had 'diminished capacity'

- the worst nightmare is to have a deformed child
- but we should say ALHUMDULILLAH, regardless of what Allah's Qadr is for us

"When your sister went and said: 'Shall I show you one who will nurse him?' So We restored you to your mother, that she might cool her eyes and she should not grieve. Then you did kill a man, but We saved you from great distress and tried you with a heavy trial. Then you stayed a number of years with the people of Madyan (Midian). Then you came here according to the fixed term which I ordained (for you), O Mûsa (Moses)! (Ta-Ha 20:40)

We bring other ayahs to show that the Qur'an resembles itself

And We had already forbidden (other) foster suckling mothers for him, until she (his sister came up and) said: "Shall I direct you to a household who will rear him for you, and sincerely they will look after him in a good manner?" (Al-Qasas 28:12)

Musa's mother was allowed in the palace to give suck to her baby
- this cooled her eyes and took away the grief from her bosom
- because a woman separated from her child can make her go mad

To kill an Egyptian solider was a big thing
- soldiers get taken to The Hague for war crimes
- but American soldiers never get taken there because
- they are the soldiers of the pharaoh, Obama
- even though Musa was an adopted son,
- he could still be killed for killing the soldier of the Pharaoh

"And I have Istana'tuka, for Myself. (Ta-Ha 20:41)

"Go you and your brother with My Ayāt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and do not, you both, slacken and become weak in My Remembrance. (Ta-Ha 20:42)

- Allah made him a Prophet and Messenger and honored him by speaking to him
- so Allah said not to forget him

"Go, both of you, to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience and behaved as an arrogant and as a tyrant). (Ta-Ha 20:43)

When we forget Allah 'tala, we become weak,

...and the remembering (praising, etc.) of (you by) Allāh (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising, etc.) Allāh in prayers, etc.]. And Allāh knows what you do. (Al-'Ankabut 29:45)

The Jews were in captivity and were behaving like tyrants
- and they are acting the same way today

And We decreed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture, that indeed you would do mischief on the earth twice and you will become tyrants and extremely arrogant! (Al-Isra 17:4)

Tafseer of the ayah: The Pharaoh was tyrannical and arrogant in the land

"And speak to him mildly, perhaps he may accept admonition or fear Allāh." (Ta-Ha 20:44)

Haroon ar-Rashid said to be gentle to the man who made a mistake
- because I am not evil like the Pharaoh and you are not better than Musa

One day an ascetic came to Harun al-Rashid and said, ‘O Harun, fear God!’ Harun al-Rashid withdrew with him and said, ‘O fellow, treat me fairly. Who is more evil, me or the pharaoh?’ The ascetic replied, ‘Without doubt the pharaoh.’ Harun al-Rashid continued, ‘Then who is better, you yourself or Moses?’ He replied, ‘Without doubt Moses.’ Harun al-Rashid said, ‘Are you not aware that when He sent Moses and his brother to him [i.e. the pharaoh], He said to them, ‘Speak to him gently’, but you have harangued me with the most violent and unseemly words, you have not been schooled in the practice of God’s praiseworthy discipline nor have you adopted the good qualities of the righteous ones!’ The ascetic replied, ‘I ask God for forgiveness.’ He replied, ‘God has already pardoned you’ and ordered him to be given twenty thousand dirhams. However, the ascetic refused to accept it. These are the right manners. [Ibn al-Jawzi, al-Muntazam fi Tarikh al-umam (8/328) and Tarikh al-Tabari (8/358-359)]

- when the man corrected the caliph, he was harsh
- but Harun said to be gentle

They said: "Our Lord! Verily! We fear lest he should hasten to punish us or lest he should transgress (all bounds against us)." (Ta-Ha 20:45)

- they feared the tyranny of the Pharaoh

He (Allāh) said: "Fear not, verily! I am with you both, hearing and seeing. (Ta-Ha 20:46)

"So go you both to him, and say: 'Verily, we are Messengers of your Lord, so let the Children of Israel go with us, and torment them not; indeed, we have come with a sign from your Lord! And peace will be upon him who follows the guidance! (Ta-Ha 20:47)

Allah 'tala told them to go and tell the Pharaoh to let them go
