We discussed the Battle of Badr, which is known as history's turning point
-the same is true for the conquest of Makkah

The Prophet (saw) made a dua saying if this band of Muslims were destroyed,
-no one would be left to worship Him
-there were 360 idols around the Ka’ba
-during this conquest, they were all smashed

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: On the day of the battle of Badr, the Prophet said, "O Allah! I appeal to You (to fulfil) Your Covenant and Promise. O Allah! If Your Will is that none should worship You (then give victory to the pagans)." Then Abu Bakr took hold of him by the hand and said, "This is sufficient for you." The Prophet came out saying, "Their multitude will be put to flight and they will show their backs." (54.45) [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 5, Book 59, Hadith #289]

It is narrated on the authority of Anas that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said on the day of the Battle of Uhud: O Allah, if Thou wilt (defeat Muslims), there will be none on the earth to worship Thee. [Sahih Muslim, Book 19, Hadith #4318]

Prophet Ibrahim and his son built the Ka’ba
-he taught the Arabs about Allah 'tala

Hubal (idol): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubal

Amr ibn Luai brought back idols and he was able
-to make the people forget the tawheed that Ibrahim taught them

Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessing, and a guidance for Al-'Alamīn (the mankind and jinns). (Aali Imran 3:96)

-the first house built to worship Allah 'tala was in Bakkah (Makkah)
-we can't cover the conquest of Makkah until we speak of the TREATY OF HUDABIYYAH
-this was the spring-board that launched the conquest of Makkah
-this treaty also launched the conquest of Khaibar
-the treaty was a victory, though the Sahabah didn't see it that way at first

Verily, We have given you (O Muhammad SAW) a manifest victory. (Al-Fath 48:1)

-the treaty was signed for 10 years of no war
-and Muhammad (saw) agreed to this because he didn't want to open too many war-fronts
-as Hitler did fighting the US, UK and other European countries
-it is insanity to open too many war-fronts at the same time
-so we should see the treaty as a VICTORY
-don't wish to meet your enemy but if you meet him, STAND FIRM

Narrated By Salim Abu An-Nadr: (The freed slave of 'Umar bin 'Ubaidullah) I was Umar's clerk. Once Abdullah bin Abi Aufa wrote a letter to 'Umar when he proceeded to Al-Haruriya. I read in it that Allah's Apostle in one of his military expeditions against the enemy, waited till the sun declined and then he got up amongst the people saying, "O people! Do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah for safety, but when you face the enemy, be patient, and remember that Paradise is under the shades of swords." Then he said, "O Allah, the Revealer of the Holy Book, and the Mover of the clouds and the Defeater of the clans, defeat them, and grant us victory over them." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 52, Hadith #266A]

One of the clauses in the treaty says if a tribe wants to enter into alliance
-with the pagans or Muhammad, they could do so
-Banu Khuzaa'a joined an alliance with Muhammad (saw)
-Banu Bakr joined an alliance withQuraish

Banu Khuzaa'a - they were attacked and killed by Banu Bakr while they were in salah
-Quraish helped them to attack a Muslim tribe (this broke the Treaty of Hudaibiyya)
-Muhammad (saw) learnt about the treaty being broken from Amr ibn Salem
-this act was cowardly because it was in the middle of the night
-when our vision is most impaired; the nighttime
-is when most people do evil (rape, kill and steal)

"And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away). (Al-Falaq 113:3)

-the Rasool (saw) sent an envoy to verify what Amr said [the envoy confirmed this]
-that Quraish supplied weapons to Banu Bakr
-this was breaking the treaty
-Muhammad then said to Amr, 'you shall be helped'

Quraish had 3 options to pay for helping Banu Bakr:
1. Pay blood money to the families of those they killed of Banu Khuzaa'a
2. To break off their allegiance with Banu Bakr
3. If you refuse to comply with one of the 1st two options,
-you'd be punished by the Muslims

Although Quraish, seeing that the treaty was not working out in their favor in the first place, decided to abolish the treaty. Because the blood of the Muslims had to be repaid, Prophet Muhammad assembled a force and marched on towards Mecca for revenge (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

Quraish (proud and arrogant, pomp and glitter and vain-glory) chose the 3rd option,
-thinking they could match power with power and measure with measure

When those who disbelieve had put in their hearts pride and haughtiness the pride and haughtiness of the time of ignorance, then Allah sent down His Sakinah (calmness and tranquility) upon His Messenger ( SAW) and upon the believers, and made them stick to the word of piety (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allah), and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it. And Allah is the All-Knower of everything. (Al-Fath 48:26)

-Quraish showed they had 'pagan pride' in their hearts
-and Muhammad (saw) had no choice but to administer justice to Quraish
-when they chose the 3rd option

The Rasool said he could see that Abu Sufyan was coming to him to ask him for more time
-and as he saw, it happened; Abu Sufyan was sent by Quraish
-when he arrived, he went to his daughter's house first
-she was Umm Habiba, the wife of the Rasool (saw)
-he tried to sit on the mantle of the Rasool and she refused
-she called her own father a 'filthy pagan'

Why did he go to the house of his daughter?
-he thought he'd have some leverage because she was his daughter but
-in Islam, blood ties are not important if the family member is a kaafir
-in Islam, if you have 2 sons and one apostates,
-that son does not inherit anything from you
-kaafirs have no rights in an Islamic family

Abu Sufyan went to Madinah for a renewal of the truce. He directly headed for the house of his daughter Umm Habiba (the Prophet’s wife). But as he went to sit on the Messenger’s carpet, she folded it up. "My daughter," said he, "I hardly knew if you think the carpet is too good for me or that I am too good for the carpet." She replied, "It is the Messenger of Allâh’s carpet, and you are an unclean polytheist." Being disgusted at the curt reply of his daughter, Abu Sufyan stepped out of her room and went to see the Prophet [pbuh], but the latter was well aware of his tricks and did not hold him any assurance. He then approached Abu Bakr, but the latter too declined to interfere. He contacted ‘Umar to intercede but this great Companion made a point-blank refusal. At last he saw ‘Ali bin Abi Talib and began begging him in the most humble words, cunningly alluding to the prospects of mastery over all the Arabs if he were to intercede for the renewal of the treaty. ‘Ali also briefly regretted his inability to do anything for him. Abu Sufyan turned his steps back to Makkah in a state of bitter disappointment and utter horror. [Maghazi al-Waqidi (2/792-793), Seerah Ibn Hisham (2/396), Dala'il al-Nubuwwah al-Bayhaqi (5/8)]

Abu Sufyan went to the Rasool, who refused to speak to him
-so then he went to Abu Bakr for help but he too ignored him
-and Umar also ignored him

Abu Sufyan went to the Apostle but the latter did not entertain him. Then he approached Abu Bakr and asked him to speak to the Apostle in his behalf, but Abu Bakr refused to do so. He tried to prevail upon ‘Umar, ‘Ali and Fatimah to intervene for him but each one excused himself saying that the matter was too grave to be settled by anyone of them. Ibn Hisham, Vol. pp. 396-7

By breaking the treaty, this gave Muhammad (saw) a reason to conquer Makkah
-so they played right into Muhammad's hands

When your ameer makes a stance, the kaafirs will go to the other Muslims
-to try for a MUTINY
-this was the strategy of Abu Sufyan
-even to Ali's house but Fatima said 'my son is too young to get involved with this matter'
-but Muhammad's daughter, Abu Bakr and Umar all stood firm

“O daughter of Muhammad (peace be upon him)! Will you let this child act as a peacemaker between the people so that he may be acknowledged as the lord of Arabia forever?” “My son is too young,” replied Fatimah, “to make peace between men. And nobody can persuade the Apostle to reconcile against his will.” [Ibn Hisham, Vol. pp. 396-7]

What lesson do we learn from this?
-Abu Sufyan was a kaafir but he knew who the stalwarts of Islam were
-he went to Muhammad, Abu Bakr, Umar, etc...
-so kaafirs know who is strong in the Muslim ummah
-he knew who was 'calling the shots'
-yet, he was a kaafir

Abu Sufyan went back to Makkah empty-handed
-none of the people he approached were able to help him
-even his own daughter, Umm Habiba was against him
-so the Companions were told to prepare for a war but he did NOT say it was Makkah

Ghazwa - a battle in which the Rasool (saw) participated himself

Nor (is there blame) on those who came to you to be provided with mounts, and when you said: "I can find no mounts for you," they turned back, while their eyes overflowing with tears of grief that they could not find anything to spend (for Jihad). (At-Tawbah 9:92)

-many were not able to go for jihad because there were no mounts for them to ride
-this is how dedicated they were; they even cried
-when they were denied the ability to go for jihad
-but nowadays, we have insincere Muslims .. we have those who hate Khilafah,
-jihad, Shari’ah, al walaa wal baraa, Tawheed haakimiyya, etc.
-things known by necessity, many do not believe in anymore
-the Sahabah cried when they were not able to go for jihad because
-if we kill a kaafir on the battlefield, we purchase a ticket to Paradise

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "A Kaafir and one who killed him will never be together in the Fire." [Sahih Muslim (3/1505) No. 1891 and Musnad Ahmad (2/397) No. 9152]

Muhammad Ibrahim [the shaikh of bin Baaz] said in page 6 of his book Tahkeem al Qawaneen: "Tawheed haakimiyya is the twin half of tawheed Ibaada."

Abu Umamah narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "One who loves for Allah, hates anyone because of Allah, spends for Allah and holds back for Allah, then indeed he has completed his faith." [Sunan Abu Dawud (2/632) No. 4681 and al-Tabarani in ‘al-Mu’jam al-Kabir’ (8/134) No. 7613]

Why did the Rasool make a public declaration when he was going to conquer the Romans?
-but not make it public when he was going to conquer Makkah?
-the scholars said Muhammad wanted to minimize the bloodshed in Makkah

Narrated By 'Ali: Allah's Apostle sent me, Az-Zubair and Al-Miqdad saying, "Proceed till you reach Rawdat Khakh where there is a lady carrying a letter, and take that (letter) from her." So we proceeded on our way with our horses galloping till we reached the Rawda, and there we found the lady and said to her, "Take out the letter." She said, "I have no letter." We said, "Take out the letter, or else we will take off your clothes." So she took it out of her braid, and we brought the letter to Allah's Apostle. The letter was addressed from Hatib, bin Abi Balta'a to some pagans of Mecca, telling them about what Allah's Apostle intended to do. Allah's Apostle said, "O Hatib! What is this?" Hatib replied, "O Allah's Apostle! Do not make a hasty decision about me. I was a person not belonging to Quraish but I was an ally to them from outside and had no blood relation with them, and all the Emigrants who were with you, have got their kinsmen (in Mecca) who can protect their families and properties. So I liked to do them a favor so that they might protect my relatives as I have no blood relation with them. I did not do this to renegade from my religion (i.e. Islam) nor did I do it to choose Heathenism after Islam." Allah's Apostle said to his companions." As regards him, he (i.e. Hatib) has told you the truth." 'Umar said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite!" The Prophet said, "He (i.e. Hatib) has witnessed the Badr battle (i.e. fought in it) and what could tell you, perhaps Allah looked at those who witnessed Badr and said, "O the people of Badr (i.e. Badr Muslim warriors), do what you like, for I have forgiven you. "Then Allah revealed the Sura: "O you who believe! Take not my enemies And your enemies as friends offering them (Your) love even though they have disbelieved in that Truth (i.e. Allah, Prophet Muhammad and this Quran) which has come to you... (to the end of Verse)... (And whosoever of you (Muslims) does that, then indeed he has gone (far) astray (away) from the Straight Path." (60.1) [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 5, Book 59, Hadith #572]

Haatib ibn Abi Balta'a wrote a letter to Quraish to say
-Muhammad was going to Makkah to conquer it
-and the Rasool (saw) found out by wahyi [divine revelation] about this letter
-so Ali was sent to catch the woman with the letter and he caught her outside of Madina
-the Prophet (even when cracking jokes) did not tell a lie

1. We're not to look at the naked body of a woman but
-when it comes down to security, we can do this

Narrated By 'Ubaidullah bin Abi Rafi: I heard 'Ali saying, "...Allah's Apostle, said, "Hatib has told you the truth." Umar said, O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite." Allah's Apostle said, "Hatib participated in the battle of Badr, and who knows, perhaps Allah has already looked at the Badr warriors and said, 'Do whatever you like, for I have forgiven you." [al-Bukhari (3007) and Muslim (2494)]

Umar wanted to cut off Haatib's head and said he was a munafiq
-but Muhammad said he was not a munafiq because he fought at the Battle of Badr
-he didn't say "Oh, in Islam, we don't kill munafiqoon,
-or when you spy for the kuffaar, you're NOT a kaafir"
-he didn't say spying doesn't make you a kaafir
-what saved Haatib’s neck was participating in Badr
-if you go to Kashmir and spy for the Hindus, don't think they will let you live
-if go to Sheeshan and spy, don't think you'll be allowed to live
-hypocrites use the story of Haatib to justify spying for the MI5, CIA MI6

Spying in Brixton (UK): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfa--DV8Lmo

-but this is NOT in line with the truth of the story of Haatib
-Haatib said he had not lost his faith, but he had no one in Makkah to protect his family
-he wanted to ingratiate himself with Quraish
-to make someone love you or trust you BECAUSE YOU WANT A FAVOR FROM THEM

The Rasool (saw) marched w/ 10,000 towards Makkah and he said to the Companions
-to break their fast to preserve their strength
-he encamped on the outside of Makkah and said to light campfires
-to create SHOCK and AWE

Abu Sufyan was taken to see the army of Muslims and
-he was asked, ‘isn't it time for you to accept Islam?’
-but he said he still had his doubts

‘‘Isn’t it time that you should recognize there is no God but Allah?’’ Abu Sufyan never believed that Muhammad was a prophet. When he hesitated, an angry Muhammad exclaimed, ‘‘Woe to you, Abu Sufyan! Isn’t it time that you recognized that I am the apostle of God?’’ To this, Abu Sufyan answered, ‘‘As to that I still have some doubt.’’ ’’ (Ibn Ishaq, p. 547

"Seeing Abu Sufian’s life in immediate danger, al-Abbas quickly intervened, forcefully telling him, ‘‘Submit and testify that there is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the apostle of God before you lose your head.’’ Abu Sufyan had no option but to comply.’’ (Ibn Ishaq, p. 547

-but Abu Sufyan had no choice but to accept Islam
-and declare there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His Final Messenger
-after he embraced Islam, he did not betray the Prophet and he was a very good Muslim
-Abu Sufyan fought in the Battle of Yarmook (where he lost one of his eyes)
-his reversion to Islam was a prediction in the Qur'an

Allah said:

Perhaps Allah will make friendship between you and those whom you hold as enemies. And Allah has power (over all things), and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al-Mumtahinah 60:7)

Abu Sufiyan history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Sufyan_ibn_Harb

-he saw many tribes, each w/ their own flag (it's sunnah to fight under your own flag)
-such as in US, the people of New York or Chicago have their own flag
-or in the UK, the people of London have one flag
-and those in Birmingham or Leeds, have their own flags
-each have their own ameer and flags are different colors

Why is the sunnah of the Prophet that we fight under our own flag?
1. For us to compete in acts of piety
2. To minimize friendly fire
3. People speak with different dialects

-such as in US, different states have different accents
-on the battlefield, we can't afford to speak with different languages or misunderstandings

So when Abu Sufyan saw the army sharpening their swords
-and he told Abbas that Muhammad was the leader of a big kingdom

Abu Sufyaan said, "No one has the might or strength to overcome these men! By Allah, O Abul-Fadl (i.e., Al-'Abbaas ), the kingdom of your nephew has this day become great indeed' Abbaas responded, "O Abu Sufyaan, it is Prophethood (and not a kingdom)' "Yes, then it is that'said Abu Sufyaan. [Seerah Ibn Hisham (2/404), al-Mu’jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (8/9) No. 7264, Dala'il al-Nubuwwah al-Bayhaqi (5/35), al-Bidaayah Wan-Nihaayah Ibn Kathir (4/290)]

Why did the Rasool want Abu Sufyan to see the might of the Muslim army?
-he went back to Makkah and said it doesn't make sense for you to resist

It was said that Abu Sufyan liked fame and glory so the Rasool said
-anyone who is found in the house of Abu Sufyan
-or takes refuge in his own home or found
-in the precincts of the Ka’ba will be saved

...The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Who enters the house of Abu Safyan will be safe, who lays down arms will be safe, who locks his door will be safe... [Sahih Muslim, Book 19, Hadith #4396]

On request by ‘Abbas, the Prophet [pbuh], in the context of the general amnesty he proclaimed, gave Abu Sufyan, who had a liking for bragging, a special privilege, saying: "He who takes refuge in Abu Sufyan’s house is safe; whosoever confines himself to his house, the inmates thereof shall be in safety, and he who enters the Sacred Mosque is safe."

Only 4 people were killed when Makkah was being conquered
-some of those killed were those that apostated from Islam and went back to kufr

Shedding blood of nine arch-criminals was declared lawful even under the curtains of Al-Ka‘bah. Nevertheless, only four of them were killed while the others were pardoned for different reasons. As for those who were killed, mention could be made of ‘Abdul ‘Uzza bin Khatal who had become a Muslim and then deputed to collect alms-tax in the company of a Helper. They had also a slave with them. ‘Abdullah, in a fit of rage, killed the Helper’s slave on account of a mere trifling dispute, and joined the pagan Arabs as an apostate. He was never repentant at this heinous crime but rather employed two women singers and incited them to sing satirically about the Prophet [pbuh]. The other man who was put to death was Miqyas bin SababaHe was a Muslim. A Helper accidently killed his brother Hisham. The Prophet [pbuh] had arranged the payment of blood money to him, which he had accepted. His revengeful nature, however, was never appeased, so he killed the Helper and went to Makkah as an apostateSimilarly, Huwairith and one woman singer went to death. On the other hand, every attempt was made to grant pardon to the people. ‘Ikrimah bin Abu Jahl, who had attacked Khalid’s detachment at the time of the entry into Makkah, was forgiven. To Wahshithe murderer of Hamzah, the Prophet’s uncle, and to Hind, who had chewed his liver, was also extended his generous clemency. The same generous treatment was accorded to Habar who had attacked the Prophet’s daughter with a spear, while on her way from Makkah to Madinah, so grievously that she ultimately died of the fatal injuries.

-1 was a woman who recited poetry to disgrace the Prophet, so she was killed
-no one is allowed to insult Muhammad (saw) in the Islamic State and get away with it

Sa’ad ibn Ubada said this the day of massacre
-but the Rasool corrected him and said 'this is a day of mercy;
-Quraish will be honored with Islam'
-he was given the flag by the Rasool and rode off with zeal

And say: "Truth (i.e. Islāmic Monotheism or this Qur’an or Jihad against polytheists) has come and Bātil (falsehood, i.e. Satan or polytheism, etc.) has vanished. Surely! Bātil is ever bound to vanish." (Al-Isra 17:81)

Ikrimah bin Abu Jahl was trying to escape to Ethiopia
-he knew the Rasool ordered him to be killed and he thought he could escape
-but the sea got fierce and he said Lord, if you save me I will be the first to embrace Islam
-he was able to go back to the Prophet and he took his Shahada
-we see that one of the greatest enemies of Islam, embraced Islam
-and became stalwarts of Islam
-he kept his bargain with Allah 'tala and Allah 'tala kept his bargain with Ikrimah
-Ikrima’s father was Abu Jahl - who would believe his son would embrace Islam?

"O Quraish, what do you think I will do to you?" They said, “You are a brother, the son of a noble brother.” He said: "Go your way, for you are free.” [al-Sunan al-Kubra al-Bayhaqi (9/199) No. 18276, Fath ul-Bari Ibn Hajar (8/18) No. 4289, Seerah Ibn Hisham (2/412), al-Seerah al-Nabawiyyah Ibn Kathir (3/570)]

The Rasool asked what he should do to punish them and they said, we expect you to be fair
-he took reproach on NO ONE
-he said what Prophet Yusuf said to his 11 brothers

He said: "No reproach on you this day, may Allah forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy! (Yusuf 12:92)

Why didn't he take revenge against the Makkans?
-because he was sent as a mercy to mankind
-historians said he was the 1st conqueror to not allow rape, pillaging and murder

And We have sent you (O Muhammad SAW) not but as a mercy for the 'Alamīn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (Al-Anbiya 21:107)

-conquerors rape the women and kill the men
-when the Makkans saw how merciful the Rasool was, ALL of them embraced Islam

Forgiveness and mercy is appreciated when it comes from someone who has power
-every single one of them was forgiven
-Muhammad (saw) was the most successful man in history
-he combined religion and politics, successfully
-it took him 21 years to conquer Makkah
-that is because it was no longer darul harb, it became darul Islam

On the authority of Ibn Abbas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "There is no migration (after the Conquest), but Jihad and good intentions, and when you are called for Jihad, you should immediately respond to the call." [al-Bukhari (2783) and Muslim (1353)]

Ma‘moon was a Mu'tazilite but when he called for jihad, people obeyed him
-even though he had dodgy aqeeda (saying the Qur'an was created)

When Makkah was conquered, and all came to Islam
-this was the meaning of the ayah in Surah 93

And verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased. (Ad-Duha 93:5)
