Bismillah…

HADEETH NUMBER 25:

Also on the authority of Abu Dharr (RA): Some people from amongst the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to the Prophet (SAW), "O Messenger of Allah, the affluent have made off with the rewards; they pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give [much] in charity by virtue of their wealth." He (SAW) said, "Has not Allah made things for you to give in charity? Truly every tasbeehah [saying: ‘subhan-Allah’] is a charity, and every takbeerah [saying: ‘Allahu akbar’] is a charity, and every tahmeedah [saying: ‘al-hamdu lillah’] is a charity, and every tahleelah [saying: ‘laa ilaha illal Allah’] is a charity. And commanding the good is a charity, and forbidding an evil is a charity, and in the bud’i [sexual act] of each one of you there is a charity." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, when one of us fulfils his carnal desire will he have some reward for that?" He (SAW) said, "Do you not see that if he were to act upon it [his desire] in an unlawful manner then he would be deserving of punishment? Likewise, if he were to act upon it in a lawful manner then he will be deserving of a reward." It was related by Muslim.

SHARH OF HADEETH

This hadeeth of Abu Dharr is talking about poverty and wealth
-some of the companions felt uneasy about their poverty
-the rich sahabah made pious deeds like them but they had extra to give
-the rich were able to give charity
-and the prophet (saw) said the hand on top giving is better than the one down receiving

Narrated By Ibn 'Umar: I heard Allah's Apostle (SAW) while he was on the pulpit speaking about charity, to abstain from asking others for some financial help and about begging others, saying, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand is that of the giver and the lower (hand) is that of the beggar." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 2, Book 24, Hadith #509]

-so all of you should strive to be the hand on top because it is the hand of honour, dignity

Poverty is something a person should not pray for himself
-the rich Muslim is the best person under the heaven because
-Allah has blessed him with deen and dunya
-and the worse person is the kaafir who is poor
-Allah didn’t bless him with anything

Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), said, "There are three people that Allah will not speak to on the Day of Rising nor purify nor look at and they will have a painful punishment: an old adulterer, a lying ruler and a poor person who is arrogant." [Sahih Muslim (1/102) No. 107, Musnad Ahmad (2/480) No. 10232]

Poverty is when you are unable to provide yourself with your needs
-and we have 7 needs:

THE 12 NEEDS OF MANKIND

1. FOOD

2. CLOTHING

3. SHELTER

4. CLEAN DRINKING WATER

5. HEALTH CARE

6. TRANSPORT

7. ELECTRICITY

8. TOILETRIES (SOAP, TOOTHPASTE, MOUTH WASH)

9. EDUCATION

10. DENTAL CARE
-a dentist is busier than a doctor
-and earns a lot

11. INTIMACY

12. SPIRITUAL
-why do you go to a dars or salatul jumuah?
-you do these to look after your spiritual need

It is estimated that about a billion people are poor
-they work and earn less than a dollar

Poverty is a weapon of Iblees
-Allah said:

Shaitān (Satan) threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit Fahshā (evil deeds, illegal sexual intercourse, sins etc.); whereas Allāh promises you Forgiveness from Himself and Bounty, and Allāh is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower. (Al-Baqarah 2:268)

-so why do you preach poverty among the Muslims
-if you know it is a weapon of Iblees
-it leads to prostitution, apostasy

The prophet (saw) used to seek refuge from it

Narrated By 'Aisha: The Prophet used to seek refuge with Allah (by saying), "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the affliction of the Fire and from the punishment in the Fire, and seek refuge with You from the affliction of the grave, and I seek refuge with You from the affliction of wealth, and I seek refuge with You from the affliction of poverty, and seek refuge with You from the affliction of Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal" [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 8, Book 75, Hadith #387]

-so if you know this why are you preaching poverty
-that preaching does not make sense

Luqman the wise said:

Luqman to his son, he said: “My son! I have carried grass-hoppers and cast-iron but I have never seen anything heavier (to bear) than a bad neighbour, and I have tasted all the bitterness, but I have never tasted anything more bitter than poverty.” [Ibn Abi Shaybah in 'Musannaf' (7/74) No. 34296 and al-Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Eman' (12/101) No. 9108]

The prophet (saw) said:

Anas Ibn Malik narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Poverty, in all probability, leads to unbelief (kufr)...” [al-Bayhaqi narrated in 'Shu’ab al-Eemaan' (9/12) No. 6188 and Abu Na'eem narrated in 'Hileeyat al-Awwleeyah' (3/109)]

Abu Hurayra said that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), said, "The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer although there is good in each. Desire that which will bring you benefit, and seek help from Allah and do not give way to incapacity. If something happens to you, do not say, 'If only I had done such-and-such.' Rather say, 'The decree of Allah. He does what He will.' Otherwise you will open yourself up to the action of Shaytan." [Sahih Muslim, Book 33, Hadith #6441]

The strength we want to see among Muslims is physical, spiritual, economic and military

WHAT CAUSES POVERTY?

1. DRUG ADDICTION
-when you see some homeless people, they were kicked from home due to drug abuse
-some of them steal from the house to get the drugs

A WOMAN STRANGLED HER SON TO DEATH: http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/1963976-woman-describes-how-she-strangled-her-own-son-to-death

-don marry people on drugs
-they are the worse people because they are going to stress you out

2. ALCOHOL ADDICTION

3. GAMBLING ADDICTION
-when they borrow you money, kiss it good bye
-they won’t pay you back

4. PROMISCUITY

5. A LACK OF EDUCATION
-you are not employable

6. LACK OF SKILLS

7. A LONG TERM PRISON SENTENCE
-it destroys your life
-because in jail, you get a low salary- job

8. A TOTAL LACK OF AMBITION
-this man does not reach any status in life
-he does not mind being on food stamps

9. CRIME
-who is going to come to your country to invest
-only a mad man will do so
-your life can be cut down at any moment

10. NATURAL DISASTERS
-people suffer natural disasters because of their sins
-e.g. the earth quake in Haiti, hurricane Katrina

And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allāh has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islāmic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). (Ash-Shams 91:10)

11. MANY WARS
-it destroys the economy
-Bush invaded many countries and so destroyed the American economy
-they are now suffering

12. SINS

It was narrated from Thawban that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Nothing increases one's life span except righteousness and nothing repels the Divine decree except supplication, and a man may be deprived of provision by a sin that he commits."' [Sunan Ibn Majah (5/152) No. 4022, Musnad Ahmad (5/277) No. 22440, Mustadrak al-Haakim (1/670) No. 1814, Sahih Ibn Hibban (3/153) No. 872, al-Sunan al-Kubra al-Nasa'i (10/380) No. 11775]

-Haiti is the poorest country in the Caribbean
-but it is the world's capital for black magic
-their official religion is black magic

13. OPPRESSION

14. INHERITANCE

The prophet (saw) tried to comfort the sahabah
-when they had anxiety because of poverty

...Truly every tasbeehah [saying: ‘subhan-Allah’] is a charity, and every takbeerah [saying: ‘Allahu akbar’] is a charity, and every tahmeedah [saying: ‘al-hamdu lillah’] is a charity, and every tahleelah [saying: ‘laa ilaha illal Allah’] is a charity. And commanding the good is a charity, and forbidding an evil is a charity, and in the bud’i [sexual act] of each one of you there is a charity."...

THE EVIL EFFECTS OF POVERTY

1. IT CAUSES YOU TO LOSE YOUR SELF RESPECT
-your wealth is your honour
-that is why Luqman gave that famous statement

2. IT CAUSES BRIBERY
-the police in poor countries take bribes
-because their salaries are not enough so they resort to bribery

From Abdullah ibn Amri that the Prophet (SAW) cursed both the receiver and the giver of bribe. [Tirmidhi 1342, Abu Dawud 3580, Ibn e Majah 2313, Ahmed 7003]

Ibn Mas`ud was asked (by the people of Iraq), What is rashwa (taking bribes)? He replied, "This is suht (unlawful earning)." They said, "No, we meant in ruling." He then said, "This is the very kufr." Then he recited: "...And whosoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, such are the Kafirun." (Al-Ma'idah 5:44) [Tafsir al-Tabari (10/321) No. 11960, Tafsir Ibn Kathir (3/119)]

3. POVERTY CAUSES CORRUPTION
-sometimes you send a man to buy things for you to build a house
-and he tells the seller to give him a receipt of $400
-for goods costing a $100 instead
-so the extra $300 goes into your pocket

Abu Hurayra (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), said, "Anyone who carries arms against us is not one of us. Anyone who cheats us is not one of us." [Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith #182]

4. POVERTY CAUSES CRIME
-a petty thief gets his hands chopped off
-but an armed robber gets crucified

The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter. (Al-Ma'idah 5:33)

Narrated Anas: Some people from `Uraina tribe came to Medina and its climate did not suit them, so Allah's Apostle (SAW) allowed them to go to the herd of camels (given as Zakat) and they drank their milk and urine (as medicine) but they killed the shepherd and drove away all the camels. So Allah's Apostle sent (men) in their pursuit to catch them, and they were brought, and he had their hands and feet cut, and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron and they were left in the Harra (a stony place at Medina), till they died. [al-Bukhari (6802) and Muslim (1671)]

5. POVERTY BREEDS PROSTITUTION
-a woman did not become a prostitute for fun
-poverty led her to it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipswich_serial_murders

6. IT TAKES AWAY YOUR SINCERITY
-the poor man joins the bandwagon of anyone feeding him

Anas Ibn Malik narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Poverty, in all probability, leads to unbelief (kufr)...” [al-Bayhaqi narrated in 'Shu’ab al-Eemaan' (9/12) No. 6188 and Abu Na'eem narrated in 'Hileeyat al-Awwleeyah' (3/109)]

7. IT TAKES AWAY YOUR AL WALAA WAL BARAA
-you are to love for Allah's sake but they will tell you it's all about the Benjamin

8. IT MAKES YOU BECOME UNTRUSTWORTHY
-you can’t put money in front of a poor person
-it's like putting a bone in front of a hungry dog

9. MAKES YOU BECOME PETTY AND TRIVIAL

10. IT CAUSES GHETTOS TO MUSHROOM
-and there is a lot of crime in them
-the lack of money is the root of all evil not money

11. IT CAUSES TEENAGE PREGNANCY

12. IT CAUSES DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY
-the sahabah suffered this
-and so they went to the rasul (saw)
-he comforted them by telling them other means of giving charity

The rich Muslim who is thankful is better than the poor Muslim
-the poor Muslims only have sabr (patience)
-even your family hates you when you are poor
-because you can’t provide for them

Luqman to his son, he said: “My son! I have carried grass-hoppers and cast-iron but I have never seen anything heavier (to bear) than a bad neighbour, and I have tasted all the bitterness, but I have never tasted anything more bitter than poverty.” [Ibn Abi Shaybah in 'Musannaf' (7/74) No. 34296 and al-Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Eman' (12/101) No. 9108]

13. IT CAUSES YOU TO HAVE A LOW SELF ESTEEM

14. IT CAUSES YOU TO BE ENVIOUS

15. POVERTY CAUSES EXPLOITATION

16. POVERTY CAUSES THE POOR PERSON TO BRING STRESS TO OTHERS

Abu Huraira narrated the Prophet (SAW) said: “The one who gets married with the intention not to pay dowry to his wife is a fornicator. And the one who borrows money with the intention not to pay back is a thief.” [Ibn Hibban in ‘al-Majruheen’ (2/261) No. 941]

-they are always borrowing and begging
-they always asking for rides here and there
-shaikhs friends in Saudi made sure he had his own car
-they were busy

17. POVERTY MAKES YOU TO BE DESPISED BY OTHERS
-they impose visa restrictions on you because you are poor
-they think that women come to be prostitutes
-poverty causes anxiety
-no girl accepts your proposal
-no girl will accept you if you are poor
-no father will give you his daughter if you don't have a job
-a man married his daughter to a man and she had to go home for food

VIRTUES OF DHIKR

-the rasul explained to them the virtues of dhikr

Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allāh - Islāmic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allāh, Verily, in the remembrance of Allāh do hearts find rest. (Ra'd 13:28)

....and the remembering (praising, etc.) of (you by) Allāh (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising, etc.) Allāh in prayers, etc.]. And Allāh knows what you do. (Al-'Ankabut 29:45)

Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, “The world, with all that it contains, is accursed except for dhikr (the remembrance of Allah) that which pleases Allah; and the religious scholars and seekers of knowledge.'' [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/561) 2322 and Sunan Ibn Majah (5/231) 4112, (Abu Eesa al-Tirmidhi said: this hadeeth is hasan ghareeb)]

-some books have fabricated hadith in them

FABRICATED: The members of my household are like the stars in the sky whichever one you follow you shall he guided. [Related by Abu Na'eem and classified fabricated by Adh-Dhahaabee who said a liar was found in the Isnaad called Ahmad Ibn Ishaaq]

Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islām), enjoining Al-Ma'rûf (i.e. Islāmic Monotheism and all that Islām orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islām has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful. (Aali Imran 3:104)

On the authority of Abu Umar who said: Allah sent two angels to destroy a township with a natural disaster, but when they got there they found a man praying in the mosque. They went back to Allah and said: 'O Allah we found a man praying in the mosque.' Allah said to the two angels: 'Go back and destroy the township with that man as well because not once did he ever frown when he saw the people indulging in haram.' [Ibnul Qayyim, al-Jawaab al-Kaafi (Vol. 1, pg. 46)]

And fear the Fitnah (affliction and trial, etc.) which affects not in particular (only) those of you who do wrong (but it may afflict all the good and the bad people), and know that Allāh is Severe in punishment. (Al-Anfal 8:25)

“If the people who know Allah disobey Allah, He will make the ignorant dominate them.” [Related by Abu Naeem al-Asbahani in 'Hilyatul Awliya' (8/91)]

On the authority of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree (RA) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say, “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.” [Sahih Muslim (1/69) No. 49, Musnad Ahmad (3/10) No. 11088, Sunan Ibn Majah (5/145) No. 4013, Sunan Tirmidhi (4/469) No. 2172, Sunan Abu Dawud (1/296) No. 1140, Sunan al-Nasa'i (8/112) No. 5009]

-sharh of hadith above:
-if you don't enjoin the right and forbid the wrong,
-the punishment will encompass everybody
-if you don't hate the wrong in your heart there is no emaan

Abu Dharr (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The best of the actions is to love for the sake of Allah and to hate for the sake of Allah." [Sunan Abu Dawud (4/198) No. 4599 and Musnad Ahmad (5/146) No. 21341]

al-Bara' Ibn 'Azib (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: ..."The strongest bond of faith is to love for the sake of Allah and hate for the sake of Allah." [Musnad Ahmad (4/286) No. 18547, Shu'ab al-Eman al-Bayhaqi (12/75) No. 9066, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah (7/80) No. 34338]

-if you see a man wearing lipstick and holding a handbag
-and you don't hate this in your heart you have no emaan

...They said, "O Messenger of Allah, when one of us fulfils his carnal desire will he have some reward for that?" He (SAW) said, "Do you not see that if he were to act upon it [his desire] in an unlawful manner then he would be deserving of punishment? Likewise, if he were to act upon it in a lawful manner then he will be deserving of a reward." It was related by Muslim.

-intimacy is an ibaadah in Islam
-because of this hadith there is not a Muslim woman with low libido
-people who are not intimate in their marriage
-sometimes will have an affair
-when a woman is intimate with her husband, it helps him lower his gaze
-you should not resort to divorce hastily
-see the wali and try to solve the issues
-after three talaqs your marriage is over

Abu Huraira (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "If a man calls his wife to his bed and she refuses, and thus he spends the night angry with her, the angels continue cursing her till the morning." [al-Bukhari (3237) and Muslim (1436)]

-if you pronounce all three at the same
-it is counted as three divorces according to Hanafi fiqh
-Hanbali fiqh says it is only one divorce
-counting 3 together as one is the correct opinion

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: Tawus said: Abu Sahba' said to Ibn Abbas: Do you know that a divorce by three pronouncements was made a single one during the time of the Prophet (SAW), and of Abu Bakr and in the early days of the caliphate of Umar? He replied: Yes. [Sunan Abu Dawud (Vol. 1, pg. 669) No. 2200]

Talq ibn Ali (RA) reported that Allahs Messenger (SAW) said, "When a man calls his wife to satisfy his urge then she must go to him even if she is at the stove." [Sunan Tirmidhi (3/465) No. 1160, Sunan al-Kubra al-Nasa'i (8/187) No. 8922 and Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah (3/558) No. 17135]

-adultery is a major sin in Islam
-it causes havoc in the community
-it gives children the wrong fathers
-if you listen to your Muslim parents you will never get married/make hijra/make jihad
-you need to be married so you don't get into zina

Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “When a man proposes marriage and you are pleased with his religion and his character then marry (your daughter) to him. If you do not do it then there would be mischief on earth and much corruption”. [Tirmidhi 1086, Ibn e Majah 1967]

-Muslim parents have issues
-if you listen to them you will never get married/study Islam
-they want you to stay in darul harb and chase the dollar till you drop dead

QUESTION 1:-

What is the command for talaq, can it be other than saying "i divorce you", what if one says "1, 2, 3" to mean as 3 divorce?

Answer 1:-

In order for talaq to take place divorce has to be pronounced
-if he says i don't need you anymore
-even this is not talaq
-even if he says 'if you leave the house you are divorced'
-he needs to be asked what he meant
-it is bid'ah to pronounce 3 talaq in one sitting
-divorce takes effect by email, test message, on the phone etc.

She is still your wife after you divorce her
-unless if the 3 months iddah elapse
-so it is haram to propose to a woman in iddah
-he can call her to bed if he wants
-and she should respond because he is feeding her

QUESTION 2:-

What if i want to get married to a brother who is practising but has a weakness for money?

Answer 2:-

Get married if he has ambition
-do not marry him if he is lazy and has no ambition
-marry and put your trust in Allah
-many people get rich after marriage

"Three groups of people Allah obliged Himself to help them: Mujahid in the cause of Allah, a worker to pay his debt, and the one who wants to marry to live a chaste life." (Tirmidhi 1661, Nisai 3120, Ibn e Majah 2518, Ahmed 9637)

QUESTION 3:-

Assalamu alaikum shaikh, you said we are to make baraa from the people who use drugs etc. but is doing this not sending them away to the web of shaytan and deviants? Are we not supposed to help them get out of it?

Answer 3:-
Firstly, Allah (swt) said He won't help anyone unless he changes
-you can't help them unless they try to help themselves and change

Verily! Allāh will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allāh). But when Allāh wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector. (Ra'd 13:11)

-the man on drugs needs to give up on drugs
-if he shows signs that he is trying to change and wants to
-then you can mingle and help
-else you should stay away from him
-because you may be contaminated
-they are human devils and will steal from you

QUESTION 4:-

Assalamu alaikum, what is the cure for laziness as this is another reason for poverty? BarakAllahu feek

Answer 4:-
The cure for laziness is ambition
-when Umar (r.a) was a caliph he saw a man in the masjid
-and asked him who feeds him and his family
-he said his brother and he got kicked out of the masjid
-he said that his brother was better than him

QUESTION 5:-

Assalamu alaikum, my question is regarding being tested with poverty. I am sure that a decade ago, I was tested with it up until a year ago. I failed miserably, and had no patience with it. It was so bad that I am still incapable of remorse for being impatient with the poverty. If I failed that test by being impatient and losing a measure of piety, is there still hope for me to go to Jannat now that the test is over? And if so, under what conditions does this hope apply? Jazakullah, Shaykh.

Answer 5:-

When you are tested with poverty as long as you didn't insult Allah
-then you've passed the test
-this is how some people behave when they face poverty
-some people apostate

As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." (Al-Fajr 89:15)

But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" (Al-Fajr 89:16)

Suhayb Ibn Sinan narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Wonderful are the affairs of a believer; for there is good in every affair of his; this is not the case with anyone else except a believer. If he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (Allah), thus there is good for him in it. If he suffers affliction, he endures patiently, which is good for him. [Sahih Muslim (4/2295) No. 2999]

And among mankind is he who worships Allāh as it were, upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islām). He loses both this world and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss. (Al-Hajj 22:11)

-if you have, then the door of taubah is still open
-people became apostates in the time of Abu Bakr (r.a) but they made taubah
-most of them died as shaheed on the battlefield
-the heart of the human being keeps turning over
-Umar left his house to kill the rasul (saw)
-he took shahada by the end of the day
-the heart changes, that is why Allah taught us a dua in 3:8

(They say): "Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower." (Aali Imran 3:8)
