By Shaikh Abdullah Faisal Morning Dars: April 18, 2013

TAFSEER SURAH AL-ISRAA
ALLAH PREFERS SOME OVER OTHERS

(BY SHAIKH ABDULLAH FAISAL)

(Morning Dars 18.04.2013)
(Notes typed live by abdul malik_4, Edited by muminah_29)

Ayah 17:17 is a warning to the Quraish.

And how many generations have We destroyed after Nuh (Noah)! And Sufficient is your Lord as an All-Knower and All-Beholder of the sins of His slaves [Surah Al Israa 17:17]

Why did Allah mention Nuh(as) in the ayah?
The reason is: they were the first generation (ummah) to dabble in shirk.
The ummah of LUT were the first to dabble in homosexuality.

Allah is saying: if you reject Muhammad (saw) just like the previous generations you will be destroyed.
You deserve to be destroyed more then those generations because you are denying Allah’s greatest Prophet

AYAH 18

Whoever wishes for the quick-passing (transitory enjoyment of this world), We readily grant him what We will for whom We like. Then, afterwards, We have appointed for him Hell, he will burn therein disgraced and rejected, ( far away from Allah's Mercy). [Surah Al Israa 17:18]

Scholars say: people will chase the dunya, but not everyone who chases its gets it.
Allah gives dunya to whom He likes.
Dunya: mansions, flashy cars, beautiful wives etc.

Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world's life; but Allah has the excellent return (Paradise with flowing rivers, etc.) with Him. [Surah Al Imran 3:14]

Ayah 3:14 talks about the things men crave for but Allah gives dunya to whom He likes.
Allah even gives Barakah to the kuffar.
The Barakah of food, clothing and shelter.
But the Barakah of Islam and Eman ... Allah only gives it to those whom He loves.
The best Barakah Allah gives is to give you Eman.
Whenever Allah wants good for a person, He gives them an understanding of the Deen.

Narrated Muawiya: I heard the Prophet (SAW) saying, "If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the religion. I am just a distributor, but the grant is from Allah. (And remember) that this nation (true Muslims) will keep on following Allah's teachings strictly and they will not be harmed by any one going on a different path till Allah's order (Day of Judgment) is established." [al-Bukhari (71) and Muslim (1037)]

If you end up chasing the dunya and die in kufr, your abode will be hell-fire for eternity.

There is another ayah that matches this.

Surah Luqman 31:24

We let them enjoy for a little while, then in the end We shall oblige them to (enter) a great torment. [Surah Al Luqman 31:24]

AYAH 19

And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it, with the necessary effort due for it (i.e. do righteous deeds of Allah's Obedience) while he is a believer (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded (by Allah). [ Surah Al Israa 17:19]

Allah will thank you for striving.
Allah is not ungrateful to His servants.
The keywords in the ayah are: wa huwa mumin: while he is a believer.
Your good deeds won’t help you if you die on kufr.
Bill gates, mother Theresa ....they will have no share in the hereafter.
Bill gates still has a chance... he's alive

Story of sons of Adam(as)
Cain and Abel: The sacrifice of Cain was rejected.

And (O Muhammad) recite to them (the Jews) the story of the two sons of Adam [Habil (Abel) and Qabil (Cain)] in truth; when each offered a sacrifice (to Allah), it was accepted from the one but not from the other. The latter said to the former: "I will surely kill you. " The former said: "Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2)."[Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:27]

Allah will only accept your sacrifice if you are mutaqeen (have taqwa)
The greatest man to walk the face of the earth was Muhammad (saw)
What did Allah say to Muhammad (saw)?
In Surah 39 verse 65 Allah says

And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad), as it was to those (Allah's Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers." [Surah Az-Zumar 39:65]

If Muhammad didn’t stand a chance if he did shirk, what makes you think mother Theresa stands a chance?
You can’t have kufr, shirk and zandaqa [heresy].
These people who did good deeds but did shirk, will expect paradise but will get hellfire.
Allah speaks about them in Surah Nur verse 39

As for those who disbelieve, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it to be water, until he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing, but he finds Allah with him, Who will pay him his due (Hell). And Allah is Swift in taking account. [Surah An-Nur24:39]

This is the example Allah gives about those who did good deeds but dabbled in SHIRK and died on SHIRK.

(It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) [Surah Al-Balad 90:13]

Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), [Surah Al-Balad 90:14]

To an orphan near of kin. [Surah Al-Balad 90:15]

Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery [Surah Al-Balad 90:16]

Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. [Surah Al-Balad 90:17]

They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise) [Surah Al-Balad 90:18]

Feeding people who are starving is a good deed
Like what Bill gates is doing.
But you have to die on Tauheed to get reward for it; otherwise your deeds will like scattered dust.
If you want your deeds accepted, do them sincerely for Allah's sake, otherwise it won’t be accepted.

Ayah 20

To each these as well as those We bestow from the Bounties of your Lord. And the Bounties of your Lord can never be forbidden. [Surah Al-Israa 17:20]

What is the meaning of the Bounties of Your Lord can never be forbidden.
You cannot withhold the bounties of Allah from someone.
The ayah also means you can’t tell Allah who to bless.
The kuffar of Makkah did this too.
They said why Allah didn’t reveal the Quran to Waleed ibn Mugheerah instead of Muhammad.
They said that because rasulullah (saw) was an orphan and poor.

Neither those who disbelieve among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) nor Al-Mushrikun (the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, idolaters, polytheists, pagans, etc.) like that there should be sent down unto you any good from your Lord. But Allah chooses for His Mercy whom He wills. And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty. [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:105]

When Allah blesses someone, just shut up and accept it as QADR ALLAH.
If you are a true believer you wouldn’t have envy either.
The pagans of Makkah were dictators, they want to dictate to Allah who to make a Prophet.

Allah is Ar-Razzaq and Al-Wahhab
The Sustainer and The Provider

Ayah 21

See how We prefer one above another (in this world) and verily, the Hereafter will be greater in degrees and greater in preference. [Surah Al-Israa 17:21]

The way that Allah preferred some people above another is that he created some people differently with regards to beauty, height, wealth etc.
Some people are beautiful.
Some are too short to get married.
This is based on ibn Katheers Tafseer.
Some are tall, some are short, and some are in between
Some are beautiful, some are ugly, and some in the between.
Height is an issue for some sisters.

Shaikh advised a brother who was 5 ft and had a British passport to go to morocco to get married there because he was so short no sisters from the UK wanted to marry him.

Allah prefers others with regards to health and wealth.
Some are rich, some are poor and some are in between.
And some Allah prefers with regards to children.

Allah talks about children in the ayah

To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He bestows female (offspring) upon whom He wills, and bestows male (offspring) upon whom He wills. [Surah Ash – Shura 42:49]

Some Allah gives boys alone, some girls alone and some boys and girls.

Or He bestows both males and females, and He renders barren whom He wills. Verily, He is the All-Knower and is Able to do all things [Surah Ash-Shura 42:50]

Some couples can’t get pregnant.
There is a 5th scenario...
Some people have a deformed child.
A man in the UK came back from Iraq and he killed his son because his son was deformed.
He went to court and his lawyer got him off on pleading post traumatic stress disorder, the case was thrown out of court.

If your kids are not deformed you should say Alhamdulillah.
We should always remember to say our dua when looking at the mirror.
You are supposed to thank Allah for your looks and ask for the beauty in your deeds.

Aisha narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: اللهم أحسنت خلقي فأحسن خلقي "Allahumma ahsanta khalqi fa ahsin khulqi" (O Allah, just as You have made my external features beautiful, make my character beautiful as well). [Musnad Ahmad
Allah prefers some prophets over others.

Those Messengers! We preferred some to others; to some of them Allah spoke (directly); others He raised to degrees (of honour); and to 'Iesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), We gave clear proofs and evidences, and supported him with Ruh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. If Allah had willed, succeeding generations would not have fought against each other, after clear Verses of Allah had come to them, but they differed - some of them believed and others disbelieved. If Allah had willed, they would not have fought against one another, but Allah does what He likes. [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:253]

THE STRONG WILLED PROPHETS

Prophets Nuh (as), Ibrahim (as), Musa (as), Isa (as) and Muhammad (saw)

Allah prefers some over others in beauty, wealth, health, intelligence, height and children.
This is only in terms of dunya.
The best preferment will be in the Akhirah

JANNAT UL FIRDAUS

When you ask for Jannah ask for Firdaus ... and the roof of the Firdaus is the Arsh of Allah

Narrated By Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever believes in Allah and His Apostle, offer prayer perfectly and fasts the month of Ramadan, will rightfully be granted Paradise by Allah, no matter whether he fights in Allah's Cause or remains in the land where he is born." The people said,
"O Allah's Apostle ! Shall we acquaint the people with the good news?" He said, "Paradise has one-hundred grades which Allah has reserved for the Mujahideen who fight in His Cause, and the distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the Heaven and the Earth. So, when you ask Allah (for something), ask for Al-firdaus which is the best and highest part of Paradise."
i.e. The sub-narrator added, "I think the Prophet also said, 'Above it (i.e. Al-Firdaus) is the Throne of Beneficent (i.e. Allah), and from it originate the rivers of Paradise.&quot    [Sahih Bukhari (4/16) No. 2790]

The best preferment is in the Akhirah, not in the dunya.
The 3 gay men who made AIDS famous are Rock Hudson, Liberachi and Freddie Mercury.
They were filthy rich.
Where are they now? In hell-fire for ever.
The dunya is short lived... that’s why the best preferment is the eternal paradise.
