Juwayriyya Bint al-Harith

- The Prophet (saws) married women who were poor
- The reason the prophet married such women was to send a strong message to the Muslims
- That if you were to be made shaheed; you don't need to worry about your wife.

He it is Who sent among the unlettered ones a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from among themselves, reciting to them His Verses, purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and polytheism), and teaching them the Book (this Qur'an, Islamic laws and Islamic jurisprudence) and Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah: legal ways, orders, acts of worship, etc. of Prophet Muhammad SAW). And verily, they had been before in manifest error; (Al-Jumu'ah 62:2)

A group of the scholars are of the view that the Battle of Banu Mustaliq took place during the month of Sha'baan in the 5th year A.H. Of the earlier scholars who adopted this view are: Moosa bin 'Uqbah, Ibn Sa'd, Ibn Qutaybah, Al-Balaathuri, Ath-Thahabi, Ibn Al-Qayyim, Ibn Hajar Al-'Asqalaani and Ibn Katheer may Allah have mercy upon them. Of the modern scholars who adopted this view are: Al-Khudhari Bik and Al-Ghazaali and Al-Booti (rh).

Sa'd bin Mu'aath (RA) died following the Battle of Banu Quraythah, which took place during the month of Thul-Qa'dah in the 5th year A.H., according to the most preponderant view. This means that the Battle of Banu Al-Mustaliq took place before it.

The reasons behind the Ghazwah of Banu Al-Mustaliq
The following are the most important reasons behind this Battle

A- The tribe of Banu Al-Mustaliq supported Quraysh and joined it during the Battle of Uhud against the Muslims. It was among the block of Ahaabeesh tribes who participated in the battle supporting Quraysh.

B- The tribe of Banu Al-Mustaliq governed the main road leading to Makkah. It was a strong barrier that prevented the Muslims from reaching Makkah.

C- News came to the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) that Banu Al-Mustaliq was mobilizing an army to fight him under the leadership of Al-Haarith bin Abi Dhiraar. Having heard about that, the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) set out and met them in one of their watering areas called Al-Muraysee' in the direction from Qadeed to the sea coast. The Prophet (SAW) made them taste a bitter defeat there.

Events of the Battle of Banu Al-Mustaliq

Having learnt about the notorious mobilization of Banu Al-Mustaliq, the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) dispatched Buraydhah bin Al-Husayb Al-Aslami (RA) to verify the reports, and he told Banu Al-Mustaliq that he wanted to support them. He stayed with them until he verified their intention, then returned and told the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) and informed him about that.

On a Monday two nights of the month of Sha'baan, in the 5th year AH., the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) left Madeenah along with 700 fighters and thirty horses and moved towards Banu Al-Mustaliq. Banu Al-Mustaliq had been informed about Islam and invited to embrace it. They had also joined the polytheists in the Battle of Uhud. They were mobilizing allies to fight the Muslims. The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) attacked them while they were heedless and their cattle were watering. He killed their fighters and captured their children. Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith (RA) was among the captives. [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

The Marriage of the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) to Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith, (RA)
The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) distributed the captive women of Banu Al-Mustaliq. Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith (RA) was among the captives and she was a blessing for her people. Let us know about her story from 'Aa'ishah (RA). It was narrated that she said, "When the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) distributed the captive women of Banu Al-Mustaliq, Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith belonged to the share of Thaabit bin Qays bin Shammaas or one of his cousins. She held a manumission contract with him. She was a beautiful and attractive woman. Anyone who saw her admired her. She came to the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) in order to help her in paying her manumission."

'Aa'ishah (RA) continued By Allaah, as soon as I saw her at the door of my room, I hated her. I knew that the Prophet (SAW) would admire her. She entered to see the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) and said "O Messenger of Allaah, I am Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith bin Abi Dhiraar, the chief of his people. I have been afflicted with an adversity that you know [i.e. that she had become a slave woman after she was a free woman and the first lady of her people]. I belong to the share of Thaabit bin Qays bin Shammaas, or a cousin of his, and I hold a manumission contract with him. Here I am seeking your help for the manumission." The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) said: "Would you want what is better than this?" She said, "What is that, O Messenger of Allaah?" He replied: "I shall pay your manumission and marry you." She agreed, and then the news spread among people.

Thereupon, the Muslims released all Banu Al-Mustaliq's captives as they had become relatives through the marriage of the Messenger of Allaah (SAW). 'Aa'ishah (RA) said, "The marriage of the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) to Juwayriyya (RA) was the cause of the setting free of one hundred families of the Banu Al-Mustaliq. I do not know of a woman who was greater in blessing to her people than she was. Following the incident, Al-Haarith bin Abi Dhiraar, Juwayriyya's father, came to Madeenah with the ransom of his daughter. The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) invited him to embrace Islam, and he did."

The Battle of Al-Muraysee' is considered one of the unique and blessed Battles in Islam. Following that Battle, a whole tribe embraced Islam. The reason behind their conversion to Islam was that the Companions (RA) freed and returned the captives that were their shares of the booties. They hated to enslave the relatives of the Messenger of Allaah (SAW). Due to that communal emancipation and unique generosity, the whole tribe embraced Islam.

The far reaching cause of this historical event was the love that the Companions (RA) had for the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) honoring him and exalting his great personality. As such, love of the Prophet (SAW) gives these fine fruits and produces such unique incidents in history.

There were far reaching aims behind the marriage of the Prophet (SAW) to Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith (RA) and these aims were achieved when her people embraced Islam. The conversion of her people to Islam was one of the goals behind that marriage. In this way the number of Muslims increased, and Islam became more exalted; thus the hopes behind that marriage were achieved. Allaah The Exalted facilitated the marriage, blessed it and realized the goal behind it, as Juwayriyya (RA) as well as her father embraced Islam, and then the whole tribe embraced Islam as well. This marriage resulted in blessing and power for Muslims as well as the material and moral support altogether for Islam and the Muslims.

Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith (RA) became a wife of the Messenger (SAW) and one of the Mothers of the Believers. She would learn well what she would hear of the teachings of Islam and would act according to what she learned. She was well-versed in Fiqh (jurisprudence), a sincere worshipper, pious and God-conscious. She enjoyed a pure heart, illuminated reason, and a shining spirit. She loved Allaah The Almighty and His Messenger (SAW) and wished the best for all Muslims.

She narrated some of the Hadeeths of the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) and conveyed some of the facts of religion which were revealed to the Messenger of Allaah (SAW). Prominent scholars from among the Companions (RA) narrated these Hadeeths on her authority and spread them among the Muslim community in order for those Hadeeths to be known and applied, and among the general human community as a part of Da'wah (propagation) and guidance.

Ibn 'Abbaas (RA) 'Ubayd bin As-Sabbaaq and Kurayb (the slave of Ibn 'Abbaas), Mujaahid and Abu Ayyoob (Yahya bin Maalik Al-Azdi) narrated some Hadeeths on the authority of Juwayriyya (RA). In his collection of Hadeeths, Baqiyy bin Makhlad narrated seven Hadeeths on her authority; four of these Hadeeths are reported by Al-Bukhaari, Muslim, Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi, An-Nasaa'i and Ibn Maajah. Al-Bukhaari (rh) narrated one Hadeeth on her authority, and Muslim (rh) narrated two.

Her Hadeeths discussed the topics of disallowing fasting on Friday in particular; the reward for glorifying and supplicating to Allaah The Almighty, the permission of giving a gift to the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) even if its owner had obtained it through charity, and the emancipation of slaves. With these seven noble Hadeeths, Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith (RA) eternalized her name in the world of Hadeeth narration to add to the honor of accompanying the Prophet (SAW) and being one of the Mothers of the Believers, the honor of conveying as much as she could of the guidance of the Messenger of Allaah (SAW).

The Mother of the Believers, Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith (RA) was one of those who is described in the Qur'an as being (what means) [and the men who remember Allaah often and the women who do so.] [Qur'an 33:35] She was obedient to Allaah The Almighty, and persevering in entreating Allaah The Almighty, praising Him, exalting Him and glorifying Him.

About this she said The Prophet (SAW) left my place for the morning prayer while I was sat [mentioning Allaah] at my place of prayer and returned while I was in the same position. The Prophet (SAW) said to me: "You have been in the same place since I left you." I said, "Yes." Thereupon he said: "I recited four statements three times after I left you, and if these were to be weighed against what you have recited during the time you have sat here then they would outweigh them: 'Subhaanallaahi wa-bihamdihi, 'adada khalqihi, wa-ridha-Nafsihi, wa-zinata 'Arshihi, wa-midaada kalimaatihi [Glorified be Allaah and praise be to Him as many times as the number of His creatures; as much as would please His Self, (as much as would) equal the weight of His Throne and (as much as) the ink to write His words.]'" [Muslim]

She died in the year 50 or 56 A.H – (RA).

- The siege of Banu Mustaliq led to the marriage of The Prophet (saws) with Juwayriyya

- The slander of Aisha occurred after the Battle of Banu Mustaliq.

- The Battle took place because Banu Mustaliq was plotting to attack the Muslims.

- However, the Prophet (saws) took them by surprise and gave them a solid defeat.

- The best DEFENCE IS AN OFFENCE.

- The Prophet (saws) was always on top of current events
- and his leadership qualities are apparent because of the results of his campaigns and mission.

- There are several lessons to be learnt from this Historical Event.

- As Muslims reviewing our History is compulsory on us to increase our knowledge and appreciation for the DEEN.
O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done. (Al-Hujurat 49:6)

- The Prophet (saws) sent Sahaba to verify the reports of the plot of Banu Mustaliq, and only attacked after their plot was confirmed.
- The Prophet (saws) used covert intelligence to attain the information by having the Sahaba infiltrating the enemy camp.

- Banu Mustaliq had heard about Islam and chose not to embrace it and support the Quraish instead, against the Muslims.
- The Muslims attacked and killed the fighters of Banu Mustaliq
- and took their women and children as captives to be distributed as War Booty.
- One woman from the Captives was Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith.

- Aisha (r.a) mentions, that as soon as she saw her she knew that the Prophet (Saws) would admire her.
- This reminds us about the Firaasa of the believer.

- Juwayriyya who was a princess in the beginning of the Day became
- a right hand possess by the end of the same day. This teaches us that Allah can change your status at any time from anyplace.

- Juwayriyya went to the Prophet (saws) to be able to buy her freedom and instead she found herself the Best of Husbands.
- The Prophet (saws) married Juwayriyya and this led all the members of her clan embracing Islam and being set free.

- The Prophet (saws) strategic leadership led to one marriage taking away the strongest support the Quraish had. Banu Mustaliq was now Muslim.

- The Sahaba considered the Captives as In-laws to Juwayriyya and hence Family to the Prophet (saws), and freed all the captives, as they hated to enslave the relatives of the Messenger of Allah (saws).

- This teaches us that the Sahaba loved the Prophet (saws) immensely and that kindness leads to people embracing Islam.

- Aisha (r.a.) commented that no other women have been a bigger blessing to her tribe than Juwayriyya bint Al-Haarith.

- All the people of Banu Mustaliq, embraced Islam due to the kindness with which they were dealt with by the Muslims.

- Juwayriyya (r.a) was a scholar of Islam in her own right, was recognised for her strength in worship and piety and narrated Hadith from the Prophet (saws), that we have for our benefit even today.

Even the Prophet (saws) was impressed by the Dhikr performed by Juwayriyya (r.a.). She would sit for hours after Fajr making Dhikr.

Juwayriyya bint Harith, may Allah be pleased with her, married the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in 5 AH, when the Prophet was fifty-eight years old and she was twenty, not long after his marriage to Zaynab bint Jahsh, and as a result of the Muslims ' successful campaign against the Banu Mustaliq who were swiftly defeated after the Prophet's surprise attack.

Among the captives taken in this campaign was the beautiful Juwayriyya, the daughter of al-Harith, who was the chief of the Banu Mustaliq. She was afraid that once the Muslims realized who she was, they would demand an exorbitant ransom for her safe release. After the Muslims had returned to Medina with their booty and prisoners, she demanded to see the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) hoping that he would help to prevent what she feared. Seeing how beautiful she was, A'isha was not keen on her seeing the Prophet.

But she persisted, and eventually she was permitted to see the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and was taken to him while he was with A'isha. After she had finished speaking, the Prophet thought for a moment, and then said, "Shall I tell you what would be better than this?"

He then asked her to marry him, and she immediately accepted. Although Juwayriyya was young and beautiful and of noble lineage, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was thinking of how to save her and all her tribe from an ignoble fate. By marrying Juwayriyya, the Banu Mustaliq would be able to enter Islam with honor, and with the humiliation of their recent defeat removed, so that it would no longer be felt necessary by them to embark on a war of vengeance that would have continued until one of the two parties had been annihilated. As soon as the marriage was announced, all the booty that had been taken from the Banu Mustaliq was returned, and all the captives were set free, for they were now the in laws of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Thus A'isha once said of Juwayriyya, "I know of no woman who was more of a blessing to her people than Juwayriyya bint al-Harith." After they were married, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) changed her name was Barra to Juwayriyya.

It has been related by Juwayriyya that early one morning the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) left her room while she was doing the dawn prayer. He returned later that morning and she was still sitting in the same place. "have you been sitting in the same place since I left you?" he asked. "Yes," she replied. Whereupon the Prophet said, "I recited four phrases three times after I left you, and if these were to be weighed against what you have been reciting since dawn, they would still outweigh them. They are: 'Glory be to Allah and Praise be to Him as much as the number of his creations, and His pleasure, and the weight of His Throne, and the ink of His words.'" Which reminds us of the following ayat of the Qur'an: Say: 'If the sea were the ink for the words of My Lord, truly the sea would be used up before the words of my Lord were completed, and even if We used the same again to assist. (Qur'an 18:109)

Juwayriyya was married to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for six years, and lived for another thirty-nine years after his death, dying in 50 AH at the age of sixty-five, may Allah be pleased with her.

- The Scholars of Tafseer mention that Ayat 35 in Surat Al Ahzab was revealed in regards to Juwayriyya bint Al Haarith.

Verily, the Muslims (those who submit to Allah in Islam) men and women, the believers men and women (who believe in Islamic Monotheism), the men and the women who are obedient (to Allah), the men and women who are truthful (in their speech and deeds), the men and the women who are patient (in performing all the duties which Allah has ordered and in abstaining from all that Allah has forbidden), the men and the women who are humble (before their Lord Allah), the men and the women who give Sadaqat (i.e. Zakat, and alms, etc.), the men and the women who observe Saum (fast) (the obligatory fasting during the month of Ramadan, and the optional Nawafil fasting), the men and the women who guard their chastity (from illegal sexual acts) and the men and the women who remember Allah much with their hearts and tongues (while sitting, standing, lying, etc. for more than 300 times extra over the remembrance of Allah during the five compulsory congregational prayers) or praying extra additional Nawafil prayers of night in the last part of night, etc.) Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise). (Al-Ahzab 33:35)

- Juwayriyya bint Al Haarith had a very strong personality
- and persisted to see the Prophet (saws) after the Battle in order to gain her freedom.
- Aisha (r.a.) who was Shrewd, Sharp and Careful
- immediately realised the status of Juwayriyya and appreciated her beauty.

- The marriage of the Prophet (saws) to Juwayriyya (r.a)
- solidified the relations with the two factions and solved the possibility of a war of attrition.
- The people of Banu Mustaliq were not only freed from captivity but all their possessions were returned as well

LESSONS TO BE LEARNED FROM THE STORY OF JUWAYRIYYA BINT AL HAARITH

1 - THE FRIEND OF MY ENEMY IS MY ENEMY

2 - MUSLIMS MUST REMOVE ALL BARRIERS PREVENTING THEM FORM PRACTICING THEIR DEEN

And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world[]]. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do. (Al-Anfal 8:39)

- Banu Mustaliq was preventing Muslims gaining easy access to Makkah and hence they had to be dealt with by the Muslims.

3 - MUSLIMS MUST ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO FIQH UL WAAQI

- You must always be aware of the current events on the ground.
- The prophet (saws) was aware of what was going on around him and this why he knew what Banu Mustaliq was plotting.

4 - MUSLIMS MUST UTILIZE SURVEILLANCE MISSIONS AND RECONNAISSANCE IN ISLAM

5 - MUSLIMS MUST INFILTRATE THE RANKS OF THE KUFFAAR AS A VITAL TOOL TO FIND OUT THEIR PLANS

- Especially the Kafir Army.

6 - WAR IS DECEPTION

Narrated Ka'b ibn Malik: When the Prophet (SAW) intended to go on an expedition, he always pretended to be going somewhere else, and he would say: "War is deception". [Abu Dawud 2629, Tirmidhi 1681, Ahmed 14312]

- The Kuffaar let their guards down and revealed all the secrets of their plots when the Muslims infiltrated the enemy.

7 - MUSLIMS MUST ALWAYS VERIFY NEWS BEFORE THEY TAKE ACTION

- Don’t be like the Kuffaar who take actions without verification and justification and then humiliate and destroy themselves

O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done. (Al-Hujurat 49:6)

8 - THE BEST FORM OF DEFENSE IS TO LAUNCH AN OFFENSIVE

- Especially an ambush or surprise attack

Then when the Sacred Months (the Ist, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islamic calendar) have passed, then kill the Mushrikun (see V.2:105) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (At-Tawbah 9:5)

9 - MUSLIMS DO NOT KILL WOMEN AND CHILDREN UNLESS THEY ARE SOLDIERS FIGHTING IN THE KUFFAAR ARMY

- If they do not fight you, you cannot kill them, you must take them as slaves and sell them in the market place.

10 - CHIEFS AND LEADERS ALWAYS HAVE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY MARRY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN

- The poor man cannot afford to marry beautiful women.

11 - THE FIRAASA OF AISHA (r.a)

- She knew instinctively that the Prophet (saws) would marry Juwayriyya because of her beauty, elegance and nobility

12 - JUWAYRIYYA WAS A BLESSING FOR HER PEOPLE

...We did not see any woman greater than Juwayriyya who brought blessings to her people. One hundred families of Banu al-Mustaliq were set free on account of her. [Sunan Abu Dawud (4/22) No. 3931, Musnad Ahmad (6/277) No. 26408, Mustadrak al-Haakim (4/28) No. 6781 and Sahih Ibn Hibban (9/361) No. 4054]

- Her whole tribe embraced Islam when she married the Prophet (saws), the Sahaba returned their possessions and freed them from captivity in honour of the Prophet (Saws)

13 - THE WISDOM OF THE PROPHET (SAWS)

He (saws) made his greatest enemies his Father-In-laws, who embraced Islam later.
- Abu Sufyan and the Al Haarith were two examples.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas: Abu Sufyan bin Harb informed me that Heraclius had sent a messenger to him while he had been accompanying a caravan from Quraish. They were merchants doing business in Sham (Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan), at the time when Allah's Apostle had truce with Abu Sufyan and Quraish infidels. So Abu Sufyan and his companions went to Heraclius at Ilya (Jerusalem). Heraclius called them in the court and he had all the senior Roman dignitaries around him. He called for his translator who, translating Heraclius's question said to them, "Who amongst you is closely related to that man who claims to be a Prophet?" Abu Sufyan replied, "I am the nearest relative to him (amongst the group)." Heraclius said, "Bring him (Abu Sufyan) close to me and make his companions stand behind him." Abu Sufyan added, Heraclius told his translator to tell my companions that he wanted to put some questions to me regarding that man (The Prophet) and that if I told a lie they (my companions) should contradict me." Abu Sufyan added, "By Allah! Had I not been afraid of my companions labeling me a liar, I would not have spoken the truth about the Prophet.... (Sahih Bukhari, Book 1, Hadith #6)

Abu Sufyan being the Father-In-law of the Prophet (saws) was given honour even by Heraclius , the ruler of Rome

14 - THE SAHABA LOVED AND RESPECTED THE PROPHET (SAWS) IMMENSELY

- The Sahaba could not bear to keep the captives enslaved
- once they were related to the Prophet (saws) through Juwayriyya’s marriage with him.

15 - A WHOLE TRIBE EMBRACED ISLAM DUE TO ONE MARRIAGE

- The Marriages of the Holy Prophet (saws) had nothing to do with the pleasures of the flesh.
- His marriages were strategic in nature to form alliances and to build political bridges

16 - THE PROPHET (SAWS) SNATCHED A POWERFUL ALLY OF QURAISH WITH ONE MARRIAGE

- The Prophet (saws) took away Banu Mustaliq from Quraish and clipped their wings. They were no longer as powerful as before.

17 - JUWAYRIYYA BECAME PIOUS, GENEROUS IN GIVING CHARITY AND A GREAT SCHOLAR OF ISLAM

18 - ALLAH MADE REFERENCE TO HER SURAT AL AHZAB : VERSE 35

- Even the Rasool (saws) was pleasantly surprised to see her love for Allah and her devotion.

19 - MARRIAGE IS STRATEGIC, TO FORGE LINKS, TO BUILD BRIDGES , TO EASE TENSION, TO FORM ALLIES AND TO AVERT WARS

Perhaps Allah will make friendship between you and those whom you hold as enemies. And Allah has power (over all things), and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al-Mumtahinah 60:7)

- The Ayah above was revealed in regards to Aby Sufyan.
- The Prophet (saws) married his daughter
- and Abu Sufyan eventually embraced Islam.

- A Muslim should be moderate in their love and hatred for people because the person you love, might one day become your enemy, and the person you hate might one day become your friend.

Abu Huraira (RA) reported in a mawquf from that the Prophet (SAW) said, "Love your friend with moderation; perhaps he might become contemptuous some day. And let your dislike (for anyone) be within limits, perhaps he might turn your friend one day." [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/360) No. 1997]

20 – ONE DAY YOU CAN BE A PRINCESS BUT BECOME A RIGHT-HAND-POSSESS OVER NIGHT BECAUSE YOUR KUFR CAN HUMILIATE YOU

21 - ISLAM SALVAGED THE HONOUR OF JUWAYRIYYA, HER FATHER AND HER ENTIRE TRIBE OF BANU MUSTALIQ

Taariq bin Shihab reports that when Umar (RA) was travelling to Shaam, Abu Ubaydah bin Jarraah (RA) was accompanying him. When they arrived at a point where they had to wade across, Umar (RA) alighted from his camel, removed his leather socks and threw them over his shoulders. He then took hold of the reins of the camel and waded through. "O Ameerul Mu'mineen!" Abu Ubaydah (RA) said, "Are you doing that?! Do you also remove your leather socks, throw them over your shoulders, take hold of the reins of the camel and then wade through?! I would not like the people of that city (where we are headed) to see you like this." "O, Abu Ubaydah! Had anyone other than you made such a statement, I would have made him a lesson for the Ummah of Muhammad (SAW).

We were once amongst the lowest of people, but Allaah gave us honour because of Islaam. As soon as we start to seek honour in avenues other than that in which Allaah has granted us honour, Allaah will then humiliate us." [Mustadrak al-Hakim (1/130) No. 207]

- The Hypocrites do not realise that HONOUR BELONGS TO ALLAH AND HIS MESSENGER AND THE BELIEVERS.

.... But honour, power and glory belong to Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not. (Al-Munafiqun 63:8)

- The Munaafiqeen think, the Kuffaar will give them honour.

22 - THE MARRIAGE TO JUWAYRIYYA DEMONSTRATES THE WISDOM OF THE PROPHET (SAWS)

- He brought a whole tribe into ISLAM.

23 - THE STRONG PERSONALITY OF JUWAYRIYYA

24 – HER FATHER AL-HARITH EMBRACED ISLAM AND DIDN’T DIE AS A KAAFIR, LIKE ABU SUFIYAN

- On the other hand, Abu Jahal, the Pharaoh, and Nimrod all died in their Kufr

Sufyan Ath-Thawri from Abdur Rahman Bin Abbas said Ayas Abu Yahya related to me from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (RA) he used to say in his sermon the best provision is piety and the peak of wisdom is to fear Allah. [Bayhaqi in Sha'ab al Imaan (1/470) and Sunan al-Kubra]

- Muslims should realise that the peak of Wisdom is to fear Allah

25 - MIGHT IS RIGHT

- Banu Mustaliq had no choice but to respect the Muslims, when they conquered them.
- You have to humiliate Kufr for the Kuffaar to embrace Islam.
- We must prepare all we can of power to strike terror [turhiboona] into their hearts

This is the proper translation: (Yusuf Ali’s)

Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly. (Al-Anfal 8:60) [Yusuf Ali]

- It is every Muslims duty to learn and understand Arabic, so that he/she can understand and obey the commands of Allah tala

26 – YOU CAN ATTACK THE KUFFAAR FIRST IF THEY ALREADY HEARD ABOUT ISLAM

- The tribe of Banu Mustaliq already fought against the Muslims.
- This took place at the Battle of Uhud

27 – KINDNESS IS EFFECTIVE IN SWELLING THE RANKS OF THE UMMAH
