We must appreciate and understand as Muslims,
-that everything we do has tawheed as its roots
-it is the motivating factor behind everything we do
-it is the worship of Allah (swt) exclusively

Around the world, tawheed is taught
-people around the world are ready to take over the Muslim world

When Umar bin al-Khattab (RA) dispatched the army of Saad bin Abi Waqqas (RA) to the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah, he advised him: “Fear your sins more than you fear the enemy as your sins are more dangerous to you than your enemy. We Muslims are only victorious over our enemy because their sins outnumber ours, not for any other reason. If our sins were equal to those of our enemy, then they would defeat us due to their superior numbers and resources.”

Practical aspect of Tauheed
-striving towards conquering the difficulties and challenges in life
-What the Prophet (saw) taught his sahabah was purely for the sake of Worshipping Allah (swt)

...If the first thing to be revealed was: 'Do not drink alcoholic drinks.' people would have said, 'We will never leave alcoholic drinks,' and if there had been revealed, 'Do not commit illegal sexual intercourse, 'they would have said, 'We will never give up illegal sexual intercourse.' [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 6, Book 61, Hadith #515]

Hence Muhammad (saw) spent 13 years in training them towards being firm
-via the Principles of Tauheed
-such as brotherhood, rizq and all of life's challenges
-they all come as ONE PACKAGE
-Tauheed gives solid foundation to the life of a Muslim

In the battle of Badr, the sahabah UNDERSTOOD the issues of Tawakkul
-ABSOLUTE TRUST in Allah (swt)

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: On the day of the battle of Badr, the Prophet said, "O Allah! I appeal to You (to fulfil) Your Covenant and Promise. O Allah! If Your Will is that none should worship You (then give victory to the pagans)." Then Abu Bakr took hold of him by the hand and said, "This is sufficient for you." The Prophet came out saying, "Their multitude will be put to flight and they will show their backs." (54.45) [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 5, Book 59, Hadith #289]

-Muhammad (saw) made the above dua owing to the rippling implications
-had the Muslims lost the Battle of Badr
-Victory is not from WEAPONS, WEALTH, or STRATEGY ALONE

....and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers and merciful among themselves...... (Al-Fath 48:29)

-It's likely that if Allah (swt) DID bestow upon us victory
-it's doubtful that most of us would appreciate it

Whatever the situation is (i.e. Arab Spring)
-it's still a far, far better situation that the plight of the Muslims in the past!
-before the Khilafah can return

Al-Nu’man b. Bashir, who said: “We were sitting in the masjid of the Messenger of Allah (SAW), and Bashir was a man who did not speak much, so Abu Tha’labah Al-Khashnee came and said: ‘Oh, Bashir bin Sa’ad, have you memorized the words of the Messenger of Allah (SAW) regarding the rulers?’ Huthayfah replied, ‘I have memorized his words’. So Abu Tha’labah sat down and Huthayfah said, ‘The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "There shall be Prophethood (nubuwwa) among you for as long as Allah wishes it to be among you. Then it shall be lifted up when Allah wishes to lift it up. Then there shall be successorship (khilâfa) on the pattern (minhâj) of Prophetship for as long as Allah wishes it to be. Then it shall be lifted up when Allah wishes to lift it up. Then there shall be a trying kingship (mulkan 'âddan) for as long as Allah wishes it to be. Then it shall be lifted up when Allah wishes to lift it up. Then there shall be a tyrannical kingship (mulkan jabriyyatan) for as long as Allah wishes it to be. Then it shall be lifted up when Allah wishes to lift it up. Then there shall be successorship on the pattern of Prophetship." [Musnad Ahmad (4/273) No. 18430 with a sound chain and as indicated by al-Haythami in 'Majma al-Zawaid' (5/341) No. 8960]

-now, when we find ourselves in a situation of calamity
-it's because we are not on our deen properly
-for this is a pre-requisite for victory
-we need to polish upon our basic principles of Tauheed to start with!

However, let's not be hasty judgmentally towards Muslims who have shortcomings
-on the basis of what Aisha (r.a) said
-i.e. that if khamr (alcohol), etc. was prohibited all at once
-NOBODY would come to Islam

Allāh has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islām). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fāsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allāh). (An-Nur 24:55)

The ULTIMATE purpose for Allah (swt) to bestow dominion upon us is conditional on:
1) Believing Allah (swt)
2) Doing Righteous Deeds

-Yusuf (a.s) is a good example
-of how his trials and tribulation continued one after the other
-however, upon each trial Yusuf (a.s) TURNED TO ALLAH (swt)
-even though he had the King at his disposal
-even when he had the opportunity to be released from Prison
-he preferred to stay until his name was cleared

By being Stringent upon core Islamic Principles of Tauheed
-Yusuf was eventually given Authority in the land

No matter how bad things got,
-Yusuf TURNED TO ALLAH (swt)
-when people approached Yusuf (a.s) based on his knowledgeable reputation
-instead of instantly taking the credit
-he FIRST AND FOREMOST introduced them to TAUHEED!

And there entered with him two young men in the prison. One of them said: "Verily, I saw myself (in a dream) pressing wine." The other said: "Verily, I saw myself (in a dream) carrying bread on my head and birds were eating thereof." (They said): "Inform us of the interpretation of this. Verily, we think you are one of the Muhsinûn (doers of good - see V.2:112)." (Yusuf 12:36)

He said: "No food will come to you (in wakefulness or in dream) as your provision, but I will inform (in wakefulness) its interpretation before it (the food) comes. This is of that which my Lord has taught me. Verily, I have abandoned the religion of a people that believe not in Allāh and are disbelievers in the Hereafter (i.e. the Kan'āniûn of Egypt who were polytheists and used to worship sun and other false deities). (Yusuf 12:37)

When Muhammad (saw) sent armies, it was TO INVITE the people to Islam
-not to rape, pillage etc.

The Ummah's Golden Years were built on solid foundations of Tauheed

In the above verse (24:55), Allah (swt) Gives several promises:-

1) Authority
2) Freedom to practice Islam
3) Ease after hardship

-it is THE SAME PRINCIPLES of Tauheed that gave us success in the past,

During the time of Ibn Taymiyya (r.a)
-there was a lot of conflict of ideas and beliefs
-He was given the title of 'Shaikh-ul-Islam'
-because he was able to clarify differences and harmonize cohesion between the people
-e.g. if someone asked him if something was halaal or haraam
-if he knew the answer would cause division or greater problems
-amongst the differing parties
-he would not answer there and then
-he would instead try to find a common denominator between the differing parties
-and THEN try to bring them together

After this example, we should not be fishing for differences in other groups
-rather, we should promote focusing on COMMON DENOMINATORS
-as long as we stick to what we agree on
-it'll protect us from division Insha’Allah
-by concentrating on our common denominators (i.e. the core matters we agree on)
-we can rebuild brotherhood and unity

Surah Anfal 8:19
-Allah (swt) States that He is Only With those who Believe
-and that should be sufficient as a comfort
-the comfort from Allah (swt)

(O disbelievers) if you ask for a judgement, now has the judgement come unto you and if you cease (to do wrong), it will be better for you, and if you return (to the attack), so shall We return, and your forces will be of no avail to you, however numerous it be, and verily, Allāh is with the believers. (Al-Anfal 8:19)

They had drought for a number of years
-Musa (as) gathered the people and stated that
-there was one person in the congregation who was disobedient to Allah (swt)
-and that individual immediately understood it was him
-so that individual's disobedience was the cause of Allah (swt)
-Withholding rain from the rest of them
-that individual IMMEDIATELY sought Allah (swt)'s Forgiveness
-and IMMEDIATELY it began to rain
-PROVING that Allah (swt) had Forgiven him there & then

Musa (as) wanted to meet this person
-but Allah (swt) told Musa that He withheld the identity of that person
-Allah (swt) had future Knowledge that this person would eventually repent

Muhammad (saw) promised the Ummah glad tidings (upon obedience to Allah)
-and said Allah (swt) showed him the whole earth
-and that his ummah will be given all that he was able to see

Thauban reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Allah drew the ends of the world near one another for my sake. And I have seen its eastern and western ends. And the dominion of my Ummah would reach those ends which have been drawn near me and I have been granted the red and the white treasure and I begged my Lord for my Ummah that it should not be destroyed because of famine, nor be dominated by an enemy who is not amongst them to take their lives and destroy them root and branch, and my Lord said: Muhammad, whenever I make a decision, there is none to change it. Well, I grant you for your Ummah that it would not be destroyed by famine and it would not be dominated by an enemy who would not be amongst it and would take their lives and destroy them root and branch even if all the people from the different parts of the world join hands together (for this purpose), but it would be from amongst them, viz. your Ummah, that some people would kill the others or imprison the others. [Sahih Muslim (4/2215) No. 2889, Sunan Abu Dawud (4/97) No. 4252, Sunan Tirmidhi (4/472) No. 2176, Musnad Ahmad (5/278) No. 22448]

Our plight at present makes it easy to become demoralized & disheartened
-but Allah (swt) has told us in the Quran NOT to lose heart, hope, etc.
-the Ummah's victory will come with strife, struggle and sacrifice

So do not become weak (against your enemy), nor be sad, and you will be superior (in victory) if you are indeed (true) believers. (Aali Imran 3:139)

1) Authority
2) Freedom to practice Islam
3) Ease after hardship

Muhammad (saw) said in a Hadith, that our deen will reach wherever there is day
-and wherever there is night
-90% of the times I've spoken to non-muslims about Islam
-I always find out that there is someone, somewhere, in their family
-who became Muslim!

This is a manifestation of the aforementioned hadith
-who would have thought the sister of Tony Blair's wife would become Muslim!
-who would have thought Yvonne Ridley
-Who would have thought that in the lands of modern kings & Queens,
-that People would come to Islam in great numbers

Tauheed is NOT ABSTRACT!
-Tauheed is NOT ACADEMIC!
-tauheed is REAL, PRACTICAL, and IMPLEMENTABLE in your day to day lives
