Almost all of the Quran became the story of prophet Musa (a.s)

And (remember) when Musa (Moses) asked for water for his people, We said: "Strike the stone with your stick. “Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each (group of) people knew its own place for water. "Eat and drink of that which Allah has provided and do not act corruptly, making mischief on the earth." (Al-Baqarah 2:60)

Water is important and is a purifier and a nutrient
-lack of water may cause certain health problems
-water is a great barakah of Allah (swt) but we take it for granted

-but they spoke kufr and said they wanted to see Allah (swt)
-they were supposed to be the cream of the crop

And (remember) when you said: "O Musa (Moses)! We shall never believe in you till we see Allah plainly." But you were seized with a thunderbolt (lightning) while you were looking. (Al-Baqarah 2:55)

-so Allah struck them with lightening and they died
-and Allah answered his dua
-they have seen miracles after miracles but yet they couldn't believe

Then We raised you up after your death, so that you might be grateful. (Al-Baqarah 2:56)

3. BAQARA: 67

And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Verily, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you make fun of us?" He said, "I take Allah's Refuge from being among Al-Jahilun (the ignorants or the foolish)." (Al-Baqarah 2:67)

-even though he was annoyed this was a very important dua
-why did they say this to Musa (a.s)

-a man from the Bani Israel fell in love with his cousin who was beautiful
-but he was lazy and wasn't worthy of her hence his uncle rejected him
-he felt insulted and decided to take revenge
-he planned to kill his uncle, accuse it on someone else
-marry his cousin and inherit his property
-he will claim the blood money (dia) from the one he accused
-he did this but when he planted the dead body of his uncle to his neighbour
-he refused to accept the accusation and they went to Musa (a.s)
-he told them Allah (swt) asked you to sacrifice a cow
-this didn't make sense to them so they asked Musa whether he was jesting

They said, "Call upon your Lord for us that He may make plain to us what it is!" He said, "He says, 'Verily, it is a cow neither too old nor too young, but (it is) between the two conditions', so do what you are commanded." (Al-Baqarah 2:68)

They said, "Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us its colour." He said, "He says, 'It is a yellow cow, bright in its colour, pleasing to the beholders.' " (Al-Baqarah 2:69)

They said, "Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us what it is. Verily to us all cows are alike, And surely, if Allah wills, we will be guided." (Al-Baqarah 2:70)

He [Musa (Moses)] said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to till the soil nor water the fields, sound, having no other colour except bright yellow.' " They said, "Now you have brought the truth." So they slaughtered it though they were near to not doing it. (Al-Baqarah 2:71)

And (remember) when you killed a man and fell into dispute among yourselves as to the crime. But Allah brought forth that which you were hiding. (Al-Baqarah 2:72)

So We said: "Strike him (the dead man) with a piece of it (the cow)." Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) so that you may understand. (Al-Baqarah 2:73)

-the lesson here is that Jews are very rebellious to Allah's haakimiyya
-they are also mu’tazilites
-it is not good for you to be excessive in questioning your leaders

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say, "What I have forbidden for you, avoid. What I have ordered you [to do], do as much of it as you can. For verily, it was only the excessive questioning and their disagreeing with their Prophets that destroyed [the nations] who were before you." [Related by al-Bukhari (7288) and Muslim (1337)]

-if they had sacrificed any cow Allah would've accepted it from them
-but they tried to be difficult with Allah so Allah made it difficult for them
-you are not allowed to be a Mu’tazilite

4. SURAH 28:16

He said: "My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, so forgive me." Then He forgave him. Verily, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. (Al-Qasas 28:16)

Musa was a Hebrew and he killed a man from Egypt by accident
-he made dua for Allah (swt) to forgive him

5. SURAH 28:17

He said: "My Lord! For that with which You have favoured me, I will never more be a helper for the Mujrimûn (criminals, disobedient to Allāh, polytheists, sinners, etc.)!" (Al-Qasas 28:17)

-taking matters in your hands will cause a reprisal

Help you one another in Al¬ Birr and At¬ Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allāh. Verily, Allāh is Severe in punishment. (Al-Ma'idah 5:2)

-when Allah blesses you with barakah, don't use it to spread mischief on the earth

So he became afraid, looking about in the city (waiting as to what will be the result of his crime of killing), when behold, the man who had sought his help the day before, called for his help (again). Mûsa (Moses) said to him: "Verily, you are a plain misleader!" (Al-Qasas 28:18)

Then when he decided to seize the man who was an enemy to both of them, the man said: "O Mûsa (Moses)! Is it your intention to kill me as you killed a man yesterday? Your aim is nothing but to become a tyrant in the land, and not to be one of those who do right." (Al-Qasas 28:19)

-the man had a secret of Musa and was blackmailing him
-therefore you shouldn't let people know your secrets

And there came a man running, from the farthest end of the city. He said: "O Mûsa (Moses)! Verily, the chiefs are taking counsel together about you, to kill you, so escape.Truly, I am to you of those who give sincere advice." (Al-Qasas 28:20)

So he escaped from there, looking about in a state of fear. He said: "My Lord! Save me from the people who are Zālimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)!" (Al-Qasas 28:21)

So he escaped from there, looking about in a state of fear. He said: "My Lord! Save me from the people who are Zālimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)!" (Al-Qasas 28:21)

And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah is worse than killing. And fight not with them at Al-Masjid-al-Harām (the sanctuary at Makkah), unless they (first) fight you there. But if they attack you, then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers. (Al-Baqarah 2:191)

-oppression is an evil thing and worse than slaughter
-it has caused many people to apostate
-the kuffaar bring up new laws every year to make it difficult for you to practice Islam
-it is so evil Allah made it haram on Himself

They reply: "We were weak and oppressed on earth." They (angels) say: "Was not the earth of Allāh spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?" Such men will find their abode in Hell -What an evil destination! (An-Nisa 4:97)

-do not use weakness as an excuse to live among the kuffaar
-and be humiliated

-he ran away to save his life
-he went to Madian and found there a well were people were fetching water
-men were fetching and two women were waiting on the side
-so Musa (a.s) fought his way through and got water for them
-then he made the dua in 28:24

So he watered (their flocks) for them, then he turned back to shade, and said: "My Lord! Truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me!" (Al-Qasas 28:24)

-you have physical, emotional, spiritual, mental and financial need
-the physical needs are of 9 categories
-food, clothing, shelter, water, intercourse, toiletries
-oxygen, medicine, entertainment

Then one of the girls came to him to tell him that her father wanted to reward him
-when he related his story the man told him he is now free from the oppression
-this showed that it is not a bad thing to kill a soldier of the taghoot
-but it is unwise to do so on your own

Then there came to him one of the two women, walking shyly. She said: "Verily, my father calls you that he may reward you for having watered (our flocks) for us." So when he came to him and narrated the story, he said: "Fear you not. You have escaped from the people who are Zālimûn (polytheists, disbelievers, and wrong-doers)." (Al-Qasas 28:25)

-a man who has problem with lowering his gaze is not pious
-Musa was said to be trustworthy because he lowered his gaze
-even though the girls were beautiful

He said: "I intend to wed one of these two daughters of mine to you, on condition that you serve me for eight years, but if you complete ten years, it will be (a favour) from you. But I intend not to place you under a difficulty. If Allāh will, you will find me one of the righteous." (Al-Qasas 28:27)

He [Mûsa (Moses)] said: "That (is settled) between me and you whichever of the two terms I fulfill, there will be no injustice to me, and Allāh is Surety over what we say." (Al-Qasas 28:28)

-this tells you that not every stranger is a danger
-but you need to vet the character and aqeeda of the person
-sometimes a woman can tell who is a good man from a bad man
-the women of taqwa can do this but not the women who have no deen

8. SURAH 28:33

He said: "My Lord! I have killed a man among them, and I fear that they will kill me. (Al-Qasas 28:33)

-so fear is a natural human instinct
-Musa (a.s) with all his emaan feared the tyranny of the Pharaoh
-so if you fear going to the kuffaar jails is not cowardice nor are you a munafiq

9. Surah 20:25-35

[Mûsa (Moses)] said: "O my Lord! Open for me my chest (grant me self-confidence, contentment, and boldness). (Ta-Ha 20:25)

"And ease my task for me; (Ta-Ha 20:26)

"And make loose the knot (the defect) from my tongue, (i.e. remove the incorrectness from my speech) [That occurred as a result of a brand of fire which Mûsa (Moses) put in his mouth when he was an infant]. [Tafsir At-Tabarī, Vol. 16, Page 159]. (Ta-Ha 20:27)

"That they understand my speech, (Ta-Ha 20:28)

"And appoint for me a helper from my family, (Ta-Ha 20:29)

"Hārûn (Aaron), my brother; (Ta-Ha 20:30)

"Increase my strength with him, (Ta-Ha 20:31)

"And let him share my task (of conveying Allāh's Message and Prophethood), (Ta-Ha 20:32)

"That we may glorify You much, (Ta-Ha 20:33)

"And remember You much, (Ta-Ha 20:34)

"Verily! You are of us Ever a Well-Seer." (Ta-Ha 20:35)

-it is a barakah from Allah to be an erudite speaker
-people cause revolutions through their speech

"Am I not better than this one [Mûsa (Moses)], who is Mahīn [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly? (Az-Zukhruf 43:52)

-the Pharaoh looked down on him due to his difficult tongue
-the kuffaar will always seek to use your disabilities against you

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: 'Two men came from the East and addressed the people who wondered at their eloquent speeches. On that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Some eloquent speech is as effective as magic."' [Sahih Bukhari (7/19) No. 5146]

-when you have your family behind you your da’wah will be successful
-you can never do it alone
-you need people to help you
-he made dua to remain in dhikr because he needs to remain focus when facing the Pharaoh

Miqdad ibn Amr said to the Holy Prophet: “O Messenger of Allah command us with what Allah has ordained because you have our full support wholeheartedly. By Allah we will never say to you what Bani Israel said to Musa (i.e. you and your lord go and fight while we site and relax). But instead we say to you; you and your Lord go and fight and we shall be with you fighting for the cause of Allah. For by the one who has sent you with the truth if you march towards the highest mountains we shall march with you until we all reach it”. (Seerah an-Nabawiyya by Ibn Hisham Vol 1. Pg.614 & Musnad Ahmad Vol.1 pg.390)

11. SURAH 7:133-135

So We sent on them: the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, and the blood: (as a succession of) manifest signs, yet they remained arrogant, and they were of those people who were Mujrimûn (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.). (Al-A'raf 7:133)

And when the punishment fell on them they said: "O Mûsa (Moses)! Invoke your Lord for us because of His Promise to you. If you will remove the punishment from us, we indeed shall believe in you, and we shall let the Children of Israel go with you." (Al-A'raf 7:134)

But when We removed the punishment from them to a fixed term, which they had to reach, behold! They broke their word! (Al-A'raf 7:135)

Ibn ‘Abbas, Mujahid, ‘Ikrimah, Ash-Sha’bi and Qatadah said: "They are his hand, his staff, the years of famine, the failure of the crops, the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs and the blood.'' [Tafseer Ibn Katheer (5/124)]

-the Pharaoh knew that Musa's dua will be accepted because
-in his heart he knew he brought the truth
-so he asked Musa to make a dua for them

And they belied them (those Ayāt) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ayāt) are from Allāh, and Mûsa (Moses) is the Messenger of Allāh in truth, but they disliked to obey Mûsa (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsidûn (disbelievers, disobedient to Allāh, evil-doers, liars.). (An-Naml 27:14)

And they said [to Mûsa (Moses)]: "O you sorcerer! Invoke your Lord for us according to what He has covenanted with you. Verily, We shall guide ourselves (aright)." (Az-Zukhruf 43:49)

But when We removed the torment from them, behold! They broke their covenant (that they will believe if We remove the torment for them). (Az-Zukhruf 43:50)

-Musa prayed for them anyway

And when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allāh, making their Faith pure for Him only, but when He brings them safely to land, behold, they give a share of their worship to others. (Al-'Ankabut 29:65)

Until, when death comes to one of them (those who join partners with Allāh), he says: "My Lord! Send me back, (Al-Mu'minun 23:99)

"So that I may do good in that which I have left behind!" No! It is but a word that he speaks, and behind them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the Day when they will be resurrected. (Al-Mu'minun 23:100)

-man is always breaking his promises to Allah

Question 1:-

Assalamu alaikum Shaikh, what dua can you make to excel in your studies?

-The last ayah in surah Baqara is best dua for every task you have in the dunya
-you ask Allah not to put on you a burden beyond your scope

Allāh burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maulā (Patron, Suppor-ter and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people." (Al-Baqarah 2:286)

Question 2:-

Assalamu alaikum Shaikh, what are your thoughts on Prince Charles learning Arabic so that he can understand Quran, is he trying to say in so many words that he is leaning towards Islam?

Answer 2:-

There is no doubt to say that he always says good things about Islam
-and has never attacked Islam
-Princess Diana may have embraced Islam
-we can say he may have goodness in his heart
-and Allah has the heart of all in His Hands and can turn the heart of anyone towards Islam

Verily! You (O Muhammad SAW) guide not whom you like, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided. (Al-Qasas 28:56)

-we hope the best that he is turning towards Allah's deen

Question 3:-

Assalamu alaikum sheikh, I recently saw a post on Facebook and I advised a sister to be careful of what she is posting. She defended her actions claiming we shouldn’t stop speaking freely for fear of getting arrested because what will we say to Allah on the day of judgement regarding those who are already in jail.

Answer 3:-

When you are on Facebook don't post anything incriminating
-don't have friends who are fools
-don't have conversations that are incriminating online
-he may be a spy and working for the kuffaar
-if you don't like the place then make hijra
