- Surah Al-Baqara has many Virtues.
- One of the virtues of Surah Al-Baqarah is that it drives away the Shayateen.
- The Shaytaan will not be able to dwell in any home in which Surah Al-Baqara is recited.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying: Do not make your houses as graveyards. Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Baqara is recited.

[Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Hadith #1707]

- The other virtue of Surah Al-Baqarah is that it will be a source of intercession and a source of shade for you on the Day of Judgement.

Hazrat Khalid ibn Madan radiyallahu anhu said, "Recite the Deliverer, which is Alif Laam Tanzeel, for I have heard that a man who had committed many sins used to recite it and nothing else. It spread its wing over him and said, O My Lord, forgive him, for he often used to recite me. So the Lord Most High made it an intercessor for him and said, Record for him a good deed and raise him a degree in place of every sin."

Hazrat Khalid radiyallahu anhu also said, "It will dispute on behalf of the one who recites it when he is in his grave saying,O Allah, if I am part of Thy Book, make me an intercessor for him. But if I am not a part of Thy Book, blot me out of it. It will be like a bird putting its wing on him, it will intercede for him and will protect him from the punishment in the grave." He said the same about Tabaarakallazi (Surah Mulk). Hazrat Khalid radiyallahu anhu did not go to sleep at night till he had recited them. Taus said that they were given sixty virtues more than any other Surah in the Holy Quraan.

- Surah Baqarah and Surah Ali Imram will shade the people on the Day of Judgement.

- The Prophet (saws) said that for each letter you recite in the Quran, you receive 10 Barakah.

- The very first Ayah of Surah Al-Baqara is Alif Lam Meem and therefore you earn 30 Barakah just by starting the Surah.

- The Quran was put in book form for the first time during the Caliphate of Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq after many Hafiz died in the Battle of Yamaama.

- It was Omar who convinced Abu Bakr to compile the Quran in book form.

- This action of compiling the Quran by Abu Bakr is called Maslaha (public interest).

Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'an and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].

(Al-Baqarah 2:1)

- Ibn Kathir said he did not know the meaning of Alif Lam Meem and only ALLAH knows the meaning of these Letters.
- The reason why Allah revealed the verse Alif Lam Meem is to remind the believers that only Allah is the All-Knowing.
- They are 3 simple letters, yet no one but Allah knows their true meaning.

This is the Book (the Qur'ān), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqûn [the pious and righteous persons who fear Allāh much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allāh much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)].

(Al-Baqarah 2:2)

- Allah said in Ayah 2 of Surah Al-Baqara that this book is for the people of Taqwa.
- Taqwa means to place between yourselves and Allah's wrath a barrier by doing what is Fard and abstaining from what is Haraam.

On the authority of Suhail bin Abi Saleh from his father: A man once asked Abu Hurayrah (RA), What is al-taqwa? He replied, Have you ever taken a path filled with thorns? The man replied, I have. Abu Hurayrah asked him, What did you do? He replied, When I saw a thorn I would dodge it or pass over it or behind it. Abu Hurayrah said, That is al-taqwa.”’

[Al-Zuhd al-Kabir al-Bayhaqi (p350-351) No. 963]

- Whenever you see Haraam, you abstain from indulging in the Haraam.
- This conscious attitude of Allah is Taqwa.

- The Holy Quran is a Guidance for people of TAQWA.
- In order to receive Guidance you need to have 3 things right.
- Your AQEEDA, Your FIQH and Your MANHAJ all have to be right.

- Adeeqa is Creed.
- Fiqh is Jurisprudence.
- Manhaj is your methodology of establishing the Islamic State.
- There are 2 types of guidance: IRSHAAD and TAWFEEQ.
- When the Prophet (saws) said to Ali, to guide one man to Islam is better than owning red camels, this Guidance is called IRSHAAD.

- When Allah inspires a person to embrace Islam, it is called TAWFEEQ.

- Tawfeeq is only from Allah, and no one else can give tawfeeq.

Verily! You (O Muhammad SAW) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided.

(Al-Qasas 28:56)

- The above Ayah is evidence that Tawfeeq is only from Allah.

Who believe in the Ghaib and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and spend out of what we have provided for them [i.e. give Zakat , spend on themselves, their parents, their children, their wives, etc., and also give charity to the poor and also in Allah's Cause - Jihad, etc.].

(Al-Baqarah 2:3)

- The Ghaib is the UNSEEN.
- Allah is Al-Ghaib; the Angels are Al-Ghaib.
- For you Jesus and Muhammad are also Al-Ghaib because you never saw them.
- The Punishment of the Grave is also Al-Ghaib, yet you believe in it.
- The Paradise and the Hellfire are also Al-Ghaib.
- Allah is reminding us that the real EMAAN is to believe in Al-Ghaib.

- The Prophet (SAWS) said that his brothers are people who will come after he is gone and who will never meet him, yet they will believe in him.

Anas Ibn Malik (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: I wish that I could meet my brothers. The Sahabah asked: Are we not your brothers? He replied: You are my companions, but my brothers are those who will believe in me without having seen me.

- We are the brothers of the Prophet (SAWS) because we believe in him without seeing him.
- This is real EMAAN.
- We do not reject Allah just because we did not see Him.
- Cowards like Richard Dawkins become celebrities by pouring scorn on Allah, and propagate Darwinism.
- He believes in seeing is believing.
- However, he never saw his own great-great-grandmother, and yet he believes in her existence.
- Also, he never saw a monkey morph in to a man yet he believes in it.
- People like him embarrass themselves by scoring an own goal.
- Imam Shafi'i and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal debated over the man who does not pray, does he become a Kaafir or not?
- Imam Ahmad won the debate, he said the man who does not pray becomes a Kaafir.
- He used Surah Tauba Verse 11 as his hujjah.

But if they repent, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, then they are your brethren in religion. (In this way) We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for a people who know.

(At-Tawbah 9:11)

- The conditions of Islam are Repentance, Prayer, Zakat, Saum and Hajj.
- The first act Allah will question us about is our Salah.
- If our Salah is intact, then Allah will look at our other acts of worship.

Abu Hurayrah narrated the Prophet (SAW) said: The first thing among their deeds for which the people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be prayer. Our Lord will say to His angels, although He knows best, Look at My slaves prayer, is it complete or lacking? If it is complete, it will be recorded as complete, but if it is lacking, He will say, Look and see whether my slave did any voluntary (naafil) prayers. If he had done voluntary prayers, He will say, Complete the obligatory prayers of My slave from his voluntary prayers. Then the rest of his deeds will be examined in a similar manner.

[Sunan Abu Dawud (1/229) No. 864, Sunan Tirmidhi (2/269) No. 413, Sunan An-Nasa'i (1/232) No. 465, Musnad Ahmad (2/425) No. 9490, Mustadrak al-Haakim (1/394) No. 965]

- The difference between a Muslim and a Kaafir is his SALAH.

Jabir (RA) reported that Allahs Messenger (SAW) said, Between a man (Muslim) and shirk and disbelief lies neglect of salah.

[Sahih Muslim (1/88) No. 82, Sunan Tirmidhi (5/13) No. 2620, Sunan Abu Dawud
(4/219) No. 4678, Sunan Ibn Majah (2/181) No. 1078, Sunan An-Nasa'i (1/232) No. 463, Musnad Ahmad (3/370) No. 15021]

- The companions of the Prophet (saws) did not consider the abandonment of anything as Kufr except the SALAH.

Abdullah ibn Shaqiq Uqayli (RA) reported, saying The companions of Muhummad (SAW) did not regard neglect of any of the deeds as disbelief as they did (neglect) of Salah."

[Sunan Tirmidhi (5/14) No. 2622 and Mustadrak al-Haakim (1/48) No. 12 who said it met the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim]

- A person is allowed to join his prayers if he is busy, if he is travelling or if he is sick.
- It is better to join your prayers than to miss your prayers.
- The traveller can shorten his prayers and pray 2 Rakat for Dhuhr, Asr and Isha.
- However, the resident is not allowed to shorten his prayers when he joins his prayers.
- It is worthy of mentioning that it is Haraam for a Muslim woman to live with a man who does not pray his Salah.
- The marriage becomes void.
- This is because the man has abandoned his faith by abandoning his Salah.
- The evidence for the abovementioned Fatwa is Surah Tauba Verse 11.

- The spending that ALLAH is speaking about in ayah 3 of Surah Al-Baqarah is ZAKAT.

- If you refuse to pay the Zakat, you deny a Pillar of Islam.
- Therefore you apostate from the Deen.
- To avoid paying the Zakat is a Major Sin.
- The person who did not pay Zakat due to greed, his wealth will become snakes around his neck biting him.

"Whoever is made wealthy by Allah and does not pay the Zakat of his wealth, then on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will be made like a bald-headed poisonous male snake with two black spots over the eyes. The snake will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and say, 'I am your wealth, I am your treasure.'

(Bukhari Volume 2, Book 24, Number 486)

- To be afraid of snakes is a natural instinct of Mankind, because when the rod of Moses turned into a Snake by the Will of Allah, Moses ran away and did not even look back.
- The Prophet (saws) used the hadith about snakes biting people on their necks for their refusal to pay Zakat to explain Verse 34 of Surah At-Tawbah.

O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder (them) from the Way of Allah (i.e. Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism). And those who hoard up gold and silver [Al-Kanz: the money, the Zakat of which has not been paid], and spend it not in the Way of Allah, -announce unto them a painful torment.

(At-Tawbah 9:34)

- The stinginess of a person is to his own demise.
- The evidence for this is Surah Muhammad Verse 38.

Now, you are these called to expend in the way of Allah. Then among you (some) are miserly; and whoever is miserly, then he is miserly only upon himself. And Allah is the Ever-Affluent, (Literally: Ever-Rich) and you are the poor ones. And in case you turn away, He will (readily) exchange you for another people; thereafter they will not be your likes

[Muhammad 47:38] Dr Ghail

And who believe in (the Qur'an and the Sunnah) which has been sent down (revealed) to you (Muhammad Peace be upon him ) and in [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.] which were sent down before you and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter. (Resurrection, recompense of their good and bad deeds, Paradise and Hell, etc.).

(Al-Baqarah 2:4)

- The most famous religious books are the Pslams of David, the Torah of Moses, the Injeel of Jesus and the Quran of Muhammad (saws).
- Only the Quran remains in its pure form, in the way it was revealed by ALLAH.

- This is because ALLAH has promised to protect the QURAN from corruption, but He did not promise the same for the previous books.
- Ayah 9 of Surah Al -Hijr is evidence of ALLAH's protection of the QURAN.

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur'an) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).

(Al-Hijr 15:9)

- There is no need to protect the previous books because they are all abrogated.
- However, there is a need to protect the Quran, because it is the final revelation of ALLAH, and there is no Holy Book going to come after the Quran.

- One day the Prophet (saws) saw Umar reading a copy of the Torah and it made him upset.
- He (SAWS) told us that if his brother Musa (a.s.) was alive today, he would have no choice but to follow him.

It was reported that the Prophet (SAW) became angry when he saw that Umar had a page with something from the Torah written on it, and he (SAW) said: Are you in doubt, O son of al-Khattab? Have I not brought you something shining and pure? If my brother Musa were alive, he would have no choice but to follow me.

[Musnad Ahmad (3/387) No. 15195 and Sunan al-Darime (1/126) No. 435]

- The abovementioned Hadith is clear evidence that the only Religious Book which is FREE form CORRUPTION is the HOLY QURAN.

- ALLAH has reminded us of this in the QURAN in SURAH FUSSILAT Verse 42.

Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it (it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise (Allah).

(Fussilat 41:42)
