Ibn Abbas said, "When the Messenger of Allah came to Al-Madinah, he found the Jews fasting the day of 'Ashura'. Therefore he asked them about it and they said, 'This is the day that Allah gave Musa victory over Fir'awn.' Then, the Prophet said, 'We have more right to Musa (than them), so fast it.'"

[Al-Bukhari (3943) and Muslim (1130)]

Karbala was not a battle, it was a massacre, and it was a tragedy Ahl ul bayt means the family of the prophet

The shia concept of ahl ul bayt is different to the Sunni version

The Sunnis consider ibn abbas from ahl ul bayt as he was from the family of the prophet and we also consider the wives of the prophet ahlul bait

The Shia stance that the wives of the prophets are not from ahlul bayt

contradicts the Quran and Sunnah

O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep
your duty (to Allah), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery, etc.) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner. And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the
times of ignorance, and perform As-Salat (Iqamat¬as¬Salat), and give Zakat and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah wishes only to remove Ar¬Rijs (evil deeds and sins, etc.) from you, O members of the family (of the Prophet SAW), and to purify you with a thorough purification.

(Al-Ahzab 33:32-33)

other ayah is used by scholar is in the Quran surah Al ahzab above ayah

And (remember) when you (Muhammad SAW) left your household in the morning to post the believers at their stations for the battle (of Uhud). And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

(Al Imran 3:121)

there is other Quran verse surah Imran verse 121 above ayah.

when you left the  members of your family  for the battlefield.

The Prophet is closer to the believers than their ownselves, and his wives are their (believers') mothers (as regards respect and marriage). And blood relations among each other have closer personal ties in the Decree of Allah (regarding inheritance) than (the
brotherhood of) the believers and the Muhajirun (emigrants from Makkah, etc.), except that you do kindness to those brothers (when the Prophet SAW joined them in brotherhood ties). This has been written in the (Allah's Book of Divine) Decrees (Al¬Lauh Al¬Mahfuz)."

(Al-Ahzab 33:6)

when the prophet passed away, the Muslims were not allowed to or able to marry the wives of the prophet because they are your mothers.

the prophet included umm Salamah as being part of his household

'A'isha reported that Allah's Apostle (SAW) went out one morning wearing a striped cloak of the black camel's hair that there came Hasan bin 'Ali. He wrapped him under it, then came Husain and he wrapped him under it along with the other one (Hasan). Then came Fatima and he took her under it, then came 'Ali and he also took him under it and then said: [Allah only desires to take away any uncleanliness from you, O people of the household, and purify you (thorough purifying)

(Al-Ahzab 33:33)]

[Sahih Muslim (4/1883) No. 2424] *daeef/weak hadith* a man in the chain is daeef - Mus’ab bin Shaiba

Umm Salamah (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) put a cloak over Hasan, Husayn, Ali and Fatimah and prayed, “O Allah, they are people of my house and closest to me. Remove from them evil and purify them a perfect purification.” Umm Salamah (RA) submitted, “Am I too with them, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Indeed you are on what is good.”

[Sunan Tirmidhi (5/699) No. 3871 and Musnad Ahmad (6/304) No. 26639]

So this is another narration of the cloak is quote on above hadith

Abu Ja'far reports that Umar (RA) once sent a proposal to Ali (RA) for his daughter Umm Kulthoom's hand in marriage. When Ali sent a message stating that she was still too young, someone told Umar that the statement meant that Ali was refusing. When Umar explained to Ali (his reason for wanting to marry her), Ali (agreed to get her married to him and) said, "(Consider the marriage done, so) I am sending her to you and she is your wife if you are pleased with her."

Ali then sent her to Umar who (knowing that she was his wife) ventured to lift the garment from her legs. (Not realising that the marriage was already concluded) She however exclaimed, "Leave it! Had you not been the Ameerul Mu'mineen, I would have slapped you across the face!"

[Abdur Razzaaq and Sa'eed bin Mansoor, as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal (Vol.8 Pg.291). Ibn Umar Maqdasi has reported a similar narration, as quoted in Isaabah (Vol. 4 Pg 492)]

'Umar bin Al-Khattab distributed some garments amongst the women of Medina. One good garment remained, and one of those present with him said, "O chief of the believers! Give this garment to your wife, the (grand) daughter of Allah's Apostle." They meant Um Kalthum, the daughter of 'Ali. 'Umar said, Um Salit has more right (to have it)." Um Salit was amongst those Ansari women who had given the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Apostle.' 'Umar said, "She (i.e. Um Salit) used to carry the water skins for us on the day of Uhud."

[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 52, No #132]

this marriage between Umar and umm kulsoom is acknowledged by some Shia;

some evil shia state that there are 2 umm kulsooms and the one that was married to Umar was a girl that was found by Ali and adopted by him

To be from the family of the prophet is an honour if you are a believer and great honour and we don't give Zakat to them

And whoever is slowed down by his actions, will not be hastened forward by his lineage.

[Sahih Muslim (4/2074) No. 2699, Sunan Tirmidhi (5/195) No. 2945, Sunan Ibn Majah (1/152) No. 225, Musnad Ahmad (2/252) No. 7421]

Hassan was born in Ramadan in 3 AH and Hussain was born in 4 AH, so there was 8-9 months between them gap.

Abu Sa’eed (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “Hasan and Hussain are the chief of the youth of paradise.”

[Musnad Ahmad (3/3) No. 11012, Sunan Tirmidhi (5/656) No. 3768, Mustadrak al-Haakim (3/182) No. 4778]

On the authority of Ibn 'Abbas: "The Messenger of Allah (SAW) drew four lines and said, 'Do you know what these are?' They said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He (SAW) said, 'The best women of the women of Jannah are Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid, Fatimah bint Muhammad, Maryam bint Imraan and Aasiyah bint Muzahim the wife of Pharaoh.'"

[Musnad Ahmad (1/293) No. 2668, al-Mu'jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (22/407) No. 1019, Mustadrak al-Haakim (3/174) No. 4754; al-Haakim said this hadith has Sahih isnaad but they (Two Shaikhs) did not narrate it; adh-Dhahabi graded this Sahih]

After the death of the prophet, huge civil wars occurred on ummah

the first was the battle of the camel where Aisha took part in it, the second was the battle of siffeen, where Ali and Mu'awiya took part

When Ali was assassinated, Hassan took over and became caliph for 6 months

Hassan abdicated the caliphate to Mu'awiyah  and he did this to avoid a 3rd civil war, to avoid further bloodshed among the Muslims.

After this, the Muslims were united and so Mu'awiyah was able to conquer the whole of North Africa and he even conquered Cyprus

What hasan did the prophet praised him for what Hassan did, he is Saiyid.

Narrated Abu Bakra: I heard the Prophet talking at the pulpit while al-Hasan was sitting beside him, and he (i.e. the Prophet) was once looking at the people and at another time Al-Hasan, and saying, "This son of mine is a Saiyid (i.e. chief) and perhaps Allah will bring
about an agreement between two sects of the Muslims through him."

[Sahih Bukhari (5/26) No. 3746]

when the Muslims are killing each other, the kuffar will be happy

The 2nd reason why Hassan abdicated was because Mu'awiyah had more experience in running the affairs of the Muslims and in politics

The shia books say Mu'awiyah bribed the servant of Hassan to poison him  so that the caliphate would go to his son Yazeed.

Abu Sufyan was the grandfather of yazeed; who was a skilful army general and brave on the battlefield.

Narrated Khalid bin Madan: That 'Umair bin Al-Aswad Al-Anasi told him that he went to 'Ubada bin As-Samit while he was staying in his house at the sea-shore of Hims with (his wife) Um Haram. 'Umair said. Um Haram informed us that she heard the Prophet (SAW) saying, "Paradise is granted to the first batch of my followers who will undertake a naval expedition." Um Haram added, I said, 'O Allah's Messenger (SAW)! Will I be amongst them?' He replied, 'You are amongst them.'

The Prophet (SAW) then said, 'The first army amongst' my followers who will invade Caesar's City will be forgiven their sins.' I asked, 'Will I be one of them, O Allah's Messenger (SAW)?' He replied in the negative."

[Sahih Bukhari (4/42) No. 2924]

Yazeed was the first army general to lay siege to Constantinople {Istanbul}

When Mu'awiyah was asked why his son was chosen as the leader to fight the Romans, and he said my son is the best person to fight the Romans

He also gave the reason that Hassan became caliph after the death of Ali, so why can't he give the caliphate to his son yazeed.

When Mu'awiyah died, in 60 AH; the caliphate  went to yazeed.

Makkah and Medinah did not accept yazeed as the caliph and rumours spread that yazeed drank alcohol and he had girlfriends.

if you are caliph and you propose to the girl, they need to give the girl to the caliph, otherwise retribution will happen.

When the people of Makkah and Medinah did not accept Yazeed, they looked at three senior sahabahs. so yazeed had to watch his back from three senior sahabahs

1 - Abdullah ibn Umar, but yazeed had nothing to fear from him as he was a political i.e. he was not interested in politicsand power he therefore gave his bai'ah to the caliph, yazeed.

-bai'ah means the oath of allegiance in Arabic

2 - the second person was Abdullah ibn Zubair

these were the 3 senior sahaba that yazeed had to watch out for, as one of these 3 were more entitled to be the caliph than yazeed.

When news reached Hussain that yazeed became caliph, Hussain refused to give his bai'ah allegiance,

The governor called Hussain to his house and told him to give a public bai'ah to yazeed, Hussain refused to do this and he left for Makkah in the middle of the night as the Ummayyads were strong in Makkah, as it was the stronghold of Abdullah ibn Zubayr.

All this took place in the year 60 AH

Ali established in Kufa his headquarters

The people of Kufa sent over 50 letters a day to say, we will not establish salah al Jummah until you come here jummah was very political back then.

When the people of Kufa sent these letters asking him to become their leader, Hussain sent his cousin Muslim ibn Aqeel to Kufa on a fact finding mission as a scout Muslim ibn Aqeel was the cousin of Hussain.

When Muslim ibn Aqeel arrived in Kufa, 12000 people came out and gave him the bai'ah on behalf of Hussain.

Muslim ibn Aqeel was overjoyed with the response of the people of Kufa, so he sent a letter to Hussain to come to Kufa asap, Hussain was in Makkah at that time.

Eventually this news of the people of Kufa coming out to Muslim ibn Aqeel reached the ears of yazeed in Damascus and yazeed was very worried in Kufa has become a city to launch a rebellion.

yazeed had a Christian called sergon as his advisor.

yazeed asked the Christian how to stop the rebellion, so this Christian told yazeed to use a brutal person to quell this rebellion and he said  ubaydullah ibn ziyad was the only one  fit for this job.

ubaydullah ibn ziyad was well known for his brutality and he was a Machiavellian who believed the end justifies the means.

ubaydullah ibn ziyad had no morals , ethos, ethics and when he was sent to Kufa to quell the rebellion he was only 28 years old.

He arrived in Kufa with only 17 men to quell the rebellion.

When he entered Kufa, he wore a balaclava, so people thought he was Hussain and the people came and rallied around him.

His first mission was, how do we find and kill the cousin of Hussain; Muslim ibn Aqeel.

Ubaydullah ibn ziyad gave a bag with silver and gold to a man and said to him, pretend you are from shia Ali and say you have a gift for Muslim ibn Aqeel.

this man said he was from the Shia of Ali (supporters of Ali)

he found that Muslim ibn Aqeel was staying with a man called Hani ibn Urwa.

The man left the bag and came back; told ubaydullah ibn ziyad where Muslim ibn Aqeel was hiding.

ubaydullah ibn ziyad went to that house and arrested Muslim ib Aqeel,

When the people found out about this, they surrounded the palace where ubaydullah ibn ziyad was.

40,000 men surrounded the palace. ubaydullah ibn ziyad told them that a huge army was coming and they would kill them all, so all these people fled, so Muslim ibn Aqeel fled in this mayhem.

Muslim ibn Aqeel had no money and abandoned, he knocked on the house and asked the woman for some water.

The woman gave him water and told him to go, so he told her that he was Muslim ibn Aqeel and he was the cousin of Hussain.

When the lady's son came home, he saw a strange man in the house and asked who this was, and she told him he was Muslim ibn Aqeel.

The next morning he went first thing to ubaydullah ibn ziyad, saying give me money and I will tell you where Muslim ibn Aqeel is and everyone from Kufa had sold out by then.

ubaydullah ibn ziyad surrounded the house and arrested Muslim ibn Aqeel.

some people said they took him to a high place and chopped of his head and the head of Hani ibn Urwa

When Muslim ibn Aqeel got captured, he was able to quickly get a letter out to Hussain to say do not come to Kufa, as the people will betray you, and they have no loyalty and they had sold out.

in those days it took 2 weeks for the letter to arrive, there so the letter did not reach Hussain, so he was acting upon the first letter which said, come to Kufa.

Hussain went to Makkah and made the announcement, 'I am going to Kufa' when he did this, all the senior sahabahs, like Jaabir ibn Abdullah, Abdullah ibn Umar, Abu Saeed al Khudri, said do not go.

Hussain then showed the sacks full of letters from the people of Kufa. (Iraq)

The senior Sahabas reminded him that they betrayed his father at the battle of Siffeen, Hussain said that was back then, now is different. Iraq

Hussain took 70 men and the rest were women and children. Hussain took the kids of Muslim ibn Aqeel and Jafar ibn Abi Taalib.

When they were heading for Kufa, they did not know about the death of Muslim ibn Aqeel. He did not know the fiqh al waaqi (current events on the ground) not knowing the fiqh al waaqi is a recipe for disaster.

Abdullah ibn Umar tracked Hussain in the desert for three days, and told him to go back to Makkah.

Hussain said it was better for bloodshed to happen outside of Makkah than inside of Makkah.

Abdullah ibn Umar said the roles of kings is not the role for ahlul bait, as the prophet chose the Akhira ver the dunya. And people do not like politicians, so you need to rise above this. but Hussain persisted.

Narrated 'Aisha (the wife of the Prophet): When Allah's Apostle was in good health, he used to say, "No prophet's soul is ever captured unless he is shown his place in Paradise and given the option (to die or survive)." So when the death of the Prophet approached and his head was on my thigh, he became unconscious for a while and then he came to his senses and fixed his eyes on the ceiling and said, "O Allah (with) the highest companions." (See Qur'an 4:69). I said' "Hence he is not going to choose us." And I came to know that it was the application of the narration which he (the Prophet) used to narrate to us. And that was the last statement of the Prophet (before his death) i.e., "O Allah! With the highest companions." (See Qur'an 4:69)

Bukhari 76.516

Hussain sent another messenger when he didn't hear from Muslim ibn Aqeel, to get the fiqh al waaqi, but his messenger was intercepted and killed.

The 2nd messenger was able to get the message to Hussain, saying to head back to Makkah as the people have been bribed and they sold out and Muslim ibn Aqeel has been killed.

After hearing this, Hussain held a shura (emergency meeting).

some people said you are not like Muslim ibn Aqeel, you have more gravitas than him, as you are the grandson of the prophet, so the people will not turn on you the way they turned on Muslim ibn aqeel.

this was a mistake and a wrong statement they said at the shura meeting.

The sons of Muslim ibn Aqeel were present at the shura meeting and they wanted revenge for the death of their father.

so Hussain decided to march toward Kufa.

when ubaydullah ibn ziyad heard that Hussain was marching to Kufa, he asked for
reinforcements and got 4000 men.

that is why this was a massacre, as this was 4000 men against the 70 men from ahl ul bait.

when Hussain heard about the precarious situation, he gave the option to his men, you can go back and all the men said we rather die with you than abandon you.

ubaydullah ibn ziyad, the blood thirsty governor of Kufa sent a message to Hussain, come to my palace in Kufa and give me your bai'ah on behalf of yazeed.

the reply of Hussain was as follows ;

I will give you 3 options

1 - let me go back to Makkah

2 - take me to yazeed so I can speak with him directly

3 - send me into exile if you do not want me to speak with yazeed directly

one of the soldiers of umar ibn saad ibn abi waqqas said these options are reasonable and even if a kaafir Christian gave you these options, you would be obliged to accept one of these options.

when they presented the 3 options to ubaydullah ibn ziyad, he rejected all 3 options, and he said either Hussain comes to my palace and give me the bai'ah (this was a handshake in those days) or there will be an all out war

this was ubaydullah ibn ziyad was bloodthirsty and brutal.

when ubaydullah ibn ziyad realised Hussain will not give bai'ah, he replaced the army general umar ibn sa'ad with shimr dhil jawshan.

for 6 days, they lay siege to the entourage of Hussain and nobody from Kufa came to the help of Hussain, they did not even give him any water.

These people abandoned Hussain just like Umm Salama and the senior sahabas predicted.

so the 4000 men marched against Hussain and his 70 men and massacred them all.

all these 70 men were from the family of the prophet.

The army did not kill the women and children, and the only man they did not kill was Ali ibn Hussain, who was sick and in the women's tent. so the lineage of Hussain continued as Ali was the son of Hussain.

When Hussain was fighting, he was the last one for them to be killed.

no one wanted to kill him as he was the grandson of the prophet.

so shimr dhil jawshan was the one who killed Hussain, and this evil person was a shia NOT Sunni, and this was because he was bribed.

The man who killed Sayyiduna Hussain (i.e. gave the death-blow) was a man by the name of Shimr bin Thil-Jawshan and he was a Shia, as recorded in both Sunni and Shia books. Shimr was part of the Shia, and then he betrayed Sayyiduna Hussain and joined Yazid’s men, giving Sayyiduna Hussain the death-blow. To provide a solid proof of this fact (i.e. that Shimr was a Shia), we refer to the esteemed and classical Shia scholar, Al-Qummi. Al-Qummi, author of the famous book “Mafaatihul-Jinaan”, writes in his book: “I say, Shimr was in the
forces of Ameer al-Mu’mineen on the Day of Siffin.”

(Al-Qummi, “Safinatun-Najaat”, vol.4, p. 492, Chapter Sheen Followed by Meem)

No Sunni would kill Hussain

yet every year the shi'ites commemorate the martyrdom of Hussain, by beating themselves but what they refuse to tell their children that the person who killed Hussain was a shia.

so why use the massacre of karbalah to cause hatred against the Sunnis?!

these shias beat themselves up every year as they feel guilty about betraying Hussain and causing his death.

Ibn Umar blamed the people of Iraq for the death of Hussain.  The Holy Prophet (saw) predicted the martyrdom of Hussain in the following Hadith.

Narrated Umm Salamah, who said: 'The Prophet (saw) was asleep one night in his house. Hussain (a.s) approached towards the Messenger of Allah (saw), so I stood by the door and held him in fear that he would wake Allah (swt) Apostle. I got distracted by something, he ran in and sat on the Prophet (saw) stomach. I (narrator) heard the Prophet of Allah (swt) wailing.' I said to him, 'I did not notice when he came in.' He (saw) said, 'Angel Jibreel came to me while he (Hussain) was sitting on my stomach and asked, 'Do you love him?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Your Ummah (nation) will kill him.' Whose nation I (saw) asked? Angel replied, 'The nation of Islam.'

Then he continued, 'Do you want me to show you the earth on which he will get martyred?' The angel flapped his wings and brought me this earth. I (Umm Salamah) witnessed in his hand was some red earth, and he was crying. Then Allah (swt) Apostle said, 'Who will kill you after me?!' Al-Busayri: This is narrated by Abd Ibn Humayd through a Saheeh (Authentic) chain, and narrated by Ahmad ibn Hanbal, shorter from A'isha or Umm Al-Salamah (s.a).

{Source: Ithaf Al-Khairat Al-Mahrath. Vol. 9, Pg. # 319.}

This is similar to an authentic narration reported from Abdullah bin Umar. A man from Iraq asked him about the ruling of mosquitoes' blood if it get on one's garment. The man wanted to know if it is permissible to pray in such a garment or not. Ibn Umar replied by saying, "Look at the people of Iraq. They killed the grandson of the Messenger of Allah, Al-Hussein, and yet they're asking about the blood of the mosquito.''

[Tafseer Ibn Katheer (5/311)]

when Hussain was killed. al mukhtar ath-thaqafi who was in jail, went out on a witch hunt, to take revenge for all those who killed Hussain.

When he killed shimr, the man who killed Hussain, he fed the dead body of shimr dhil jawshan to hungry dogs.

when he finally caught ubaydullah ibn ziyad, he chopped off the head of ubaydullah ibn ziyad, he displayed it to a group of people, a snake went inside the nose of ubaydullah ibn ziyad and stayed in the skull of him and never came out again.

It was said: Ahmad ibn Hanbal was asked: Would you take narrations from Yazeed?” He said: “No, and no karamah (honour?) for him, was that not him who done to people of Madina what he has done?”. It was said to him: “Group says that they love Yazeed”. He asked: Does anyone love Yazeed who believes in Allaah and the Last Day?” It was said to him: Would you curse him?”. Imam answered: When did you ever see your father curse anybody?.

{Ibn Muflih Hanbali in “Adabu sharia” (1/336) Ibn Taymiyyah said, yazeed did not order the killing of Hussain. when news reached yazeed about the death of Hussain, he said you have

The stance of Ahmad ibn Hanbal on yazeed is the stance of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah

yazeed did not take revenge on shimr dhil jawshan or ubaydullah ibn ziyad, so he missed a golden opportunity to leave a good impression in history.

the scholars of Islam say, how can you drink from the fountain of the prophet, when you did not give Hussain water for 6 days
