THE STORY OF QABIL
(CAIN) AND HABIL (ABEL)
(CAIN) AND HABIL (ABEL)
CHAPTER 1
December 22 2013 / 18 Safar 1435 Hijri
By Shaikh Abdullah Faisal
Edited by Abu Hafiza & Khmer Muslim
After Allah (SWT) sent Nabi Adam (AS) and his wife Hawa to Earth,
the husband and wife began to have children. Each birth produced a set of twins.
The Law of Allah (SWT) at the time was to intermarry between twins
of separate births.
To marry your own twin sister was a Taboo and unlawful
This Law was prescribed by Allah (SWT) because there were no other
human beings on Earth.
Both Cain and Abel were born with twin sisters.
They were the sons of Adam (AS) whereas the twin sister of Cain
was not as beautiful as Qalimah, the sister of Cain. She was extremely
beautiful where as the twin sister of Abel was not as beautiful as Qalimah.
Adam approached Cain and Abel and told them to marry each others
sisters, however Cain refused. He persisted that he should marry his own twin
sister Qalimah and that he would not accept the sister of Abel instead.
Cain went as far as to ask his father to change the law of Allah
(SWT), in order for him to fulfil his desires. Adam reminded Cain that the LAW
of ALLAH cannot be changed.
However, Cain continued in his stubbornness and refused to marry
the sister of Abel while withholding the marriage of Qalimah to Abel.
Finally Adam decided to settle the issue by asking both of them to
deliver a sacrifice to Allah (SWT). And whoever' sacrifice was accepted by
Allah, that brother would get his way.
And (O Muhammad SAW) recite to them (the Jews) the story of the
two sons of Adam [Habil (Abel) and Qabil (Cain)] in truth; when each offered a
sacrifice (to Allah), it was accepted from the one but not from the other. The
latter said to the former: "I will surely kill you." The former said:
"Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious -
see V.2:2)."
(Al-Ma'idah 5:27)
That is, brother would get the opportunity to marry Qalimah. So it
was that Abel sacrificed a Sheep and Cain sacrificed some fruits and vegetables
that were bruised.
It was the agricultural occupation of Abel to cultivate cattle
while it was the occupation of Cain to cultivate Plants.
Allah (SWT) sent down a fire to consume the sacrifice of Abel and
the sacrifice of Cain was left unaccepted by Allah.
"If you do stretch your hand against me to kill me, I shall
never stretch my hand against you to kill you, for I fear Allah; the Lord of
the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists)."
(Al-Ma'idah 5:28)
In his fury, Cain then turned to his father Adam and blamed him
for his evident loss.
Abel reminded his brother that Allah only accepts the sacrifice of
those who are on piety.
"Verily, I intend to let you draw my sin on yourself as well
as yours, then you will be one of the dwellers of the Fire, and that is the
recompense of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers)."
(Al-Ma'idah 5:29)
In retaliation Cain, threatened Abel and said that he would rather
murder him than allow him to marry his sister Qalimah.
However, Abel even though he was bigger and stronger in physical
strength, refused to raise his hands on his own brother.
He said to Cain, "if you kill me, all my sins will be on your
scale on the Day of Judgement."
We learn from Abel's statement that Adam (AS) taught his children
AUTHENTIC TAUHEED
There were 10 generations between Adam and Noah and all of those
children of Adam were upon Tauheed.
Another lesson we learn is that Sibling Rivalry exists among
brothers and sisters.
Sibling rivalry is competition among the siblings. There are many
causes for this condition.
Sibling rivalry is a type of competition or animosity among
siblings, whether blood related or not. Siblings generally spend more time
together during childhood than they do with parents. The sibling bond is often
complicated and is influenced by factors such as parental treatment, birth
order, personality, and people and experiences outside the family.[1] Sibling
rivalry is particularly intense when children are very close in age and of the
same gender, or where one child is intellectually gifted.[2]
It has existed throughout history from the time of Adam (AS), to
the time of Yusuf and it continues to this day. Rivalry can be triggered if one
parent openly loves one child over the other, or if a child is given another
share, and many more reasons.
Another lesson we learn is that Fatal Attraction, caused Cain to stretch
his hands to kill his own brother. Fatal Attraction means killing for sex. Cain
was willing to kill Abel rather than let him marry the girl he wanted to marry
himself.
The Sibling Rivalry between Cain and Abel was triggered because
Cain thaught that Adam preferred Abel over
him and after Allah accepted Abels sacrifice, he went deeper into his anger
thinking that even Allah preferred Abel over him.
However, Adam clearly told Cain, that he cannot change Allah's
Law. In fact nobody can.
We learn that Adam (AS) skilfully directed this unsolvable issue
to the decree of Allah, by asking his sons to perform a sacrifice.
"Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun."
(Al-Ma'idah 5:27)
But in his impiety, Cain blamed his father, saying, "you
prayed to Allah to accept Abel sacrifice and not mine." Surely, Cain's
heart was diseased.
"If you do stretch your hand against me to kill me, I shall
never stretch my hand against you to kill you, for I fear Allah; the Lord of
the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists)."
(Al-Ma'idah 5:28)
Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam said that his father said,
"Qabil held Habil by the head to kill him, so Habil laid down for him and
Qabil started twisting Habil's head, not knowing how to kill him. Shaytan came
to Qabil and said, `Do you want to kill him' He said, `Yes.' Shaytan said,
`Take that stone and throw it on his head.' So Qabil took the stone and threw
it at his brother's head and smashed his head. Shaytan then went to Hawwa' in a
hurry and said to her, `O Hawwa'! Qabil killed Habil.' She asked him, `Woe to
you! What does `kill' mean' He said, `He will no longer eat, drink or move.'
She said, `And that is death' He said, `Yes it is.' So she started to weep
until Adam came to her while she was weeping and said, `What is the matter with
you' She did not answer him. He asked her two more times, but she did not
answer him. So he said, `You and your daughters will inherit the practice of
weeping, while I and my sons are free of it.'''
[Ibn Abi Hatim recorded it]
Now Cain had made up his mind to kill his brother Abel, however,
Cain did not know how to kill. It was SHAITAAN, who taught Cain how to kill
Abel.
The Shaitaan told Cain to pick up a rock and smash it on Abel's
head.
As soon as Cain had followed Shaitaan's instructions, he ran to
Hawa to disclose the murder. His mother Hawa became grief stricken when she
learnt of her sons' death.
And so it was that when Allah decreed came to pass.
Then the Shaitan (Satan) made them slip there from (the Paradise), and got them out from that in which they were.
We said: "Get you down, all, with enmity between yourselves. On earth will
be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time."
(Al-Baqarah 2:36)
Allah did tell us that when we are on Earth, we will hate each
other, this is because we all compete for the same things.
The first murder was committed for Qalimah, a women both Cain and
Abel were competing for.
Abu Bakrah ath-Thaqafi
(may Allāh be pleased with him) reported – The Prophet said “If two Muslims
meet each other with their swords, then both the killer and the killed will be
in the Hell-fire.” I said, “O Allāh's Messenger, that is the case for the
killer but why should that be the case for the killed?” He answered, “Because
he wanted to kill his companion.”
[Bukhāri & Muslim]
Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen
(may Allāh have mercy on him), in his explanation of this hadith says that the
condition of the sentence “When two Muslims meet with their swords” does not
exclusively refer to a sword; the term applies to any weapon with which two
Muslims intend to cause harm, leading to death for the other. Any weapon such
as, a sword, rifle, rock, etc. that is used intentionally to cause damage to another
Muslim is prohibited in Islam. The reference to two Muslims spells out the
nature of the meeting – they both have the intention to do harm to one another.
If any Muslims meet with a method by which the they can kill, and one of them is successful in killing the other, then
both, the killer and the killed shall be in the Hell-fire.
In order for two Muslims to be in the Hell fire both of them
should have had the intention to kill each other. However if one only has the
intention to defend himself, then the other with the intention to kill, he will
be the only one in the Hellfire.
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying: There
will be soon a period of turmoil in which the one who sits will be better than
one who stands and the one who stands will be better than one who walks and the
one who walks will be better than one who runs. He who would watch them will be
drawn by them. So he who finds a refuge or shelter against it should make it as
his resort.
[Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Hadith #6893]
We learn from the actions of Shaitaan, that he is an open enemy to
the sons of Adam.
124 THOUSAND PROPHETS
On the authority of Abu Dharr his saying: "I said, 0 Allah's
Messenger! How many were the Prophets of Allah?' He (Peace be upon him) said:
'One hundred twenty -four thousands.' I said: 'O Allah's Messenger! How many
were the Messengers among them?' He (Peace be upon him) said: 'Three hundred
and thirteen, a great number!' I said: 'O Allah's Messenger! Who was the first
among them? 'He (Peace be upon him) said: 'Adam.' I said: 'O Allah's Messenger!
Was he a Prophet sent with a Message?' He (Peace be upon him) said: 'Yes, Allah
the Almighty created him with His Hand, then, breathed into him out of His
Soul, then, He fashioned him (in a very proper manner).
{Ibn Hibban}
The reason that Abel knew that all of his sins would be given to
Cain, was because his father Adam was a Prophet of Allah
Since Adam (AS) was a Prophet, he was able to teach his sons
Tauheed.
And Messengers We have mentioned to you before, and Messengers We
have not mentioned to you, - and to Musa (Moses) Allah spoke directly.
(An-Nisa 4:164)
We have heard of some Messengers in the Holy Quran and others we
have not heard of.
Among the many lessons we learn from the story of Cain and Abel is
that envy and jealousy is a very evil thing
Say: "I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of the daybreak,
"From the evil of what He has created; "And from the evil of the
darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or
goes away)."And from the evil of the witchcrafts when they blow in the
knots, "And from the evil of the envier when he envies"
(Al-Falaq 113:1-5)
Allah asked us to seek refuge in Him from the envious, because a person's
envy can cause him to kill you.
Another lesson we learn is that sometimes, parents can give birth
to beautiful children and sometimes they give birth to ugly children by the
will of Allah
Allah decrees what is in the womb, even the same womb is capable
of giving birth to various types of children by Allah's leave
Another lesson we learn is since Qalimah was breath-taking
beautiful, it caused Cain to kill his own brother, this is because Beauty is a
Fitna.
Another lesson we learn is that the first murder committed by man
was for the sake of a woman
They came to them and said, "O the group! Our leader has
been bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion) and we have treated him with
everything but nothing benefited him has anyone of you anything useful?"
One of them replied, "Yes, by Allah, I know how to treat with a Ruqya But
by Allah, we wanted you to receive us as your guests but you refused. I will
not treat your patient with a Ruqya till you fix for us something as
wages." Consequently they agreed to give those travellers a flock of
sheep. The man went with them (the people of the tribe) and started spitting
(on the bite) and reciting Surat-al-Fatiha till the patient was healed...
[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 7, Book 71, Hadith #645]
Another lesson we learn is that Fatal Attraction (killing for sex)
is a reality, not a fancy.
Another lesson we learn is that beauty is appreciated by all of
Mankind. It is a natural instinct for a man to gravitate towards a pretty woman.
Narrated 'Abdullah: The Prophet said, "None is killed
unjustly, but the first son of Adam will have a part of its burden."
Sufyan said, "a part of its blood because he was the first to establish
the tradition of murdering."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 92, Number 423)
The murder of Abel was the first murder and Hawa (eve) did not
know what Death means.
Abdullah Ibn Mas‘ud (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW)
said: “No soul is killed unlawfully, but there is a share of the sin on the
first son of Adam, because he was the first one to set the precedent of
killing.”
[Related by al-Bukhari (3335) and Muslim (1677)]
Another lesson we learn is that the Was Wasa (whispering) of Iblis
is deadly, and we should not underestimate the Whispers of Iblis.
Another lesson we learn is that if a child thinks that his parents
prefer his sibling over him, he may resort to violence.
This is why Cain committed himself to kill Abel. He blamed Adam
for praying to accept Abel's sacrifice over his own
Even the brothers of Nabi Yusuf dumped him in a well with no shirt
on his back because they blamed their father Nabi Yacub for loving Yusuf more
than he loved them.
Abel was in a cave lying down when he was killed by Cain. This
cave is located in Northern Syria and is referred to as the Blood Cave.
Then Allah sent a crow who scratched the ground to show him to
hide the dead body of his brother. He (the murderer) said: "Woe to me! Am
I not even able to be as this crow and to hide the dead body of my
brother?" Then he became one of those who regretted.
(Al-Ma'idah 5:31)
When Abel died, Cain lifted his brother on his back and walked
with him for three days. Cain did not know what to do with Abel's body. Then
Allah (SWT) sent a crow to show Cain how to dig the Earth and bury his brother
Abel.
Then Cain fell into regret. However, his regret was triggered
because he felt humiliated when Allah sent the crow to show him how to bury his
brother.
A key point here is that Cain did not make Tauba.
Therefore many of the Scholars of Tafseer consider Cain to have
died a Kaafir.
Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against
themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of
Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most
Merciful.
(Az-Zumar 39:53)
The question arises, so what if Cain had made Tauba before he
died? The Answer is that ALLAH is OFT-FORGIVING, MOST MERCIFUL and HE would
forgive Cain if he had made Tauba
Another lesson we learn is that Abel was a Prophet, just like his
father and that Cain was a Kaafir.
Another lesson we learn is that if the MESSAGE does not go along
with the evil desires of MEN, they KILL THE MESSENGER
And indeed, We gave Musa (Moses) the Book and followed him up with
a succession of Messengers. And We gave 'Iesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam
(Mary), clear signs and supported him with Ruh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. Is
it that whenever there came to you a Messenger with what you yourselves desired
not, you grew arrogant? Some, you disbelieved and some, you killed.
(Al-Baqarah 2:87)
Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:
"Verily the most painful punishment on the Day of Judgment are those who
kill the prophets or people murdered by the prophet or kill one of his parents,
and making statues and knowledgeable people who do not benefit from his
knowledge."
[related by Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Iman' (10/288) No. 7504]
The worst man on Judgement Day is the man who was killed by a Prophet, or he, himself got killed by a Prophet
The Prophet said that those who break their family ties will never
enter the Paradise. When Cain killed Abel, he
broke the family ties.
Narrated by Jubair bin Mut'im: That he heard the Prophet saying,
"The person who severs the bond of kinship will not enter Paradise."
[Al-Bukhari (5984) and Muslim (2556)]
Therefore we learn that we cannot break family ties even if our
parents are Kuffaar. The only time we are allowed to break ties if people are antagonistic
towards Islam.
Another lesson we learn is that when you start something new and
that thing is EVIL, all the people who copy after you in that thing, their sins
will be collected for you to carry on the Day of Judgement.
Abdullah Ibn Mas‘ud (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW)
said: “No soul is killed unlawfully, but there is a share of the sin on the
first son of Adam, because he was the first one to set the precedent of
killing.” [Related by al-Bukhari (3335) and Muslim (1677)]
Therefore whenever a man kills a man, the sin is shared by Cain,
the son of Adam, because he was the first to start this evil practice.
Another lesson we learn is that throughout history, parents always
produce at least one evil child, a child that does not gravitate towards Islam
O you who believe! Verily, among your wives and your children
there are enemies for you (i.e. may stop you from the obedience of Allah),
therefore beware of them! But if you pardon (them) and overlook, and forgive
(their faults), then verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(At-Taghabun 64:14)
Allah warned us in the Quran that among our family are enemies
that we should be aware of.
Another lesson we learn is that throughout History, Mankind always
rebel against Allah (SWT) HAAKIMIYAAH. Mankind wants to rebel against the
legislation of his Lord by using his Intellect. He tries to veto the Naql by
using the Aql
The REVELATION is the LEGISLATION
Another lesson we learn is that we should expect Incest to be rife
in the Kaafir community because Cain wanted to have incest.
Because of that We ordained for the Children of Israel that if
anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread
mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone
saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. And indeed,
there came to them Our Messengers with clear proofs, evidences, and signs, even
then after that many of them continued to exceed the limits (e.g. by doing
oppression unjustly and exceeding beyond the limits set by Allah by committing
the major sins) in the land!.
(Al-Ma'idah 5:32)
Because of what Cain did and ALLAH (SWT) ordained that is someone
killed an innocent person it is as if he killed all of mankind.
If someone kills an innocent
person, the victim's the family can either ask for you to be punished or they
can forgive you.
{Muwatta Malik Book 43, Hadith 1582}
Another option they have is to ask
for blood money as well
{Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol:
9 Book 88 Chapter 8 hadith: 6881} & {Trans Sahih Al Bukhari Vol: 6 Book 60
Number 25}
Muawiyah, when he was Caliph, waited for a Toddler to reach the
age of maturity and then asked him if he would be willing to accept blood money
from the person who murdered his father.
The mature son refused to accept money and instead wanted the
murderer to be punished. So in keeping with the LAW of ALLAH, Muawiya, ordered
the murderer to be killed in retaliation for the crime he committed.

Ibrahim as a khaleel (close friend), and [that] He did not speak to Moosa. Most
Perfect is He and exalted is He from what Al-Ja'd says." Then he descended
and slaughtered him. I say: And the Jahmiyyah and Mu'tazilah speak with this,
and they distort the text of the revelation regarding that, and they claim that

QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSIONS:
Q1:
What does it mean women are fitnah to men I would like his opinion on that
hadith brother please and thank you?
Answer
1:
Women are wonderful and Allah made them to comfort and be partners
to Men
However, Man is weak to the charms of a woman and therefore they
are a type of fitna for him.
Q2 shaikh said that if a person does a bad thing and people him, their
sins will be carried by him in the day of judgement but in Islam no one will
carry any other person sin?
Answer

way.'"
