08 THE STORY OF PROPHET SHU'AIB {AS} {JANUARY 02 2013}

THE STORY OF PROPHET
SHU'AIB {AS}
{Chapter 8}

The importance of this story cannot be over emphasized.

The problems that existed in Prophet Shuaib's (AS) time exists today

The problem that existed in the time of Prophet' Lut (AS) which is homosexuality exists today.

The problem that existed in the time on Noah (AS) which is worshiping idols exists today.

These are not bedtime stories.

The human nature does not change so history repeats itself.

Shuaib (AS) has said to be around at a similar time to Musa (AS).

Some scholars say Prophet Musa (AS) married the daughter of Prophet Shuaib (AS).

Prophet Shuaib (AS) lived in Madyan.

"And O my people! Let not my Shiqaq cause you to suffer the fate similar to that of the people of Nuh (Noah) or of Hud or of Salih (Saleh), and the people of Lout (Lot) are not far off from you!

(Hud 11:89)

Allah (SWT) told us in the Qur'an that he was close to Prophet Lut (AS).

They were close to each other geographically.

That is the tafseer of the ayah.

Madyan is in the Sinai Peninsula.

Sodom and Gomorrah was in Palestine.

That is how close to each other they were.

The ayah also refers to time span.

The destruction of the people of Lut (AS) was fresh in the minds of the people of Shuaib (AS).

The people of Shuaib (AS) were blessed with having a people from their midst and he was amazing with his speech.

To the extent to him being called khateeb anbiya.

The Most Beneficent (Allah) Has taught (you mankind) the Qur'an (by His Mercy). He created man. He taught him eloquent speech.

(Ar-Rahman 55:1-4)

The Rasul (SAWS) was blessed with eloquent speech.

If a hadith has a grammatical error in it, it is a fabricated hadith.

The Prophet was perfect in speech; he did not slip grammatically in speech.

It is impossible for the Qur'an to have grammatical mistakes.

He it is Who sent among the unlettered ones a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from among themselves, reciting to them His Verses, purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and polytheism), and teaching them the Book (this Qur'an, Islamic laws and Islamic jurisprudence) and Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah: legal ways, orders, acts of worship, etc. of Prophet Muhammad SAW). And verily, they had been before in manifest error;

(Al-Jumu'ah 62:2)

The hadith of the Rasul is also hikmah.

All prophets had perfect speech.

When Prophet Sulaiman (AS) wrote a letter to Balqis.

"Go you with this letter of mine, and deliver it to them, then draw back from them, and see what (answer) they return." She said: "O chiefs! Verily! Here is delivered to me a noble letter, "Verily! It is from Sulaiman (Solomon), and verily! It (reads): In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, and the Most Merciful;

(An-Naml 27: 28-30)

She was impressed with the letter; She knew it was a noble letter.

When a fool writes, a letter there are many mistakes.

When Balqis got the letter, she said it is a noble letter because it had no grammatical mistakes.

Shuaib (AS) was gifted with speech and when a person can speak properly, his speech is just as effective as magic.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: 'Two men came from the East and addressed the people who wondered at their eloquent speeches. On that, the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Some eloquent speech is as effective as magic."'

[Tran Sahih Al Bukhari Vol: 7 Book 67 No. 5146]

Shuaib's (AS) people who are referred to as ashab ayka used to worship a tree.

The name of the tree was ayka.

Umar ibn al khattab (RA) told the Muslims to cut down a tree that was mentioned in the Qur'an.

Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they gave their Bai'a (pledge) to you (O Muhammad SAW) under the tree, He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down As-Sakinah (calmness and tranquillity) upon them, and He rewarded them with a near victory,

(Al-Fath 48:18.)

People were visiting the tree, which was in the valley of hudaibiyyah from all over the Muslim world.

Umar (RA) ordered it to be chopped down, He did not want it to be worshiped.

Verily, I will mislead them, and surely, I will arouse in them false desires; and certainly, I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and indeed I will order them to change the nature created by Allah." And whoever takes Shaitan (Satan) as a Wali (protector or helper) instead of Allah, has surely suffered a manifest loss.

(An-Nisa 4:119)

People are weak and Iblis promised to lead them astray and to instil in them evil and corrupted desires.

The story of Prophet Shuaib (AS) is so important because we are facing the exact same problems that he faced.

They were the first people to cheat with the scales.

The people of Shuaib became filthy rich from their trade and transactions.

Their wealth had no barakah.

They were clandestine with their trading activities.

It was tainted with fraud and cheating.

The occupy wall street movement started in New York and has spread to 1000 cities all over the world.

While companies were going bust, the fat cats were doubling their salaries and lying off people.

This is why the occupy wall street movement started.

When Allah spoke about the Prophet Shuaib (AS), it is to do with your trading transactions.

Do not think these stories are just bedtime stories.

The Buddhists worship idols like the people of Noah (AS) did, just as the Hindus do.

The gay movement is alive in kicking just as it was at the time of Prophet Lut (AS).

People who defraud you with trading transactions did not just take place at the time of Shuaib (AS); it is taking place right now.

History repeats itself so there is no such thing as a past.

Prophet Shuaib (AS) was one of the five Arab prophets who Allah (SWT) spoke about in the Qur'an.

The other 4 are Prophet Hud (AS), Saleh (AS), Ismail (AS) and Muhammad (SAWS).

Allah (SWT) spoke about cheating in the Qur'an and this was the vice of the people of Shuaib.

Allah (SWT) refers to these people as mutaffifeen.

Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), On a Great Day, The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)?

(Al-Mutaffifin 83: 1-6)

The people of Shuaib (AS) think if they rob two ounces off every person, they are going to get rich.

People who behave like this doesn't believe in Allah (SWT) or the Day of Judgment.

Those who are faithfully true to their Amanat (all the duties which Allah has ordained, honesty, moral responsibility and trusts etc.) and to their covenants;

(Al-Mu'minun 23:8)

The believer is someone you can trust.

Allah (SWT) told you that you are not allowed to eat up the wealth of people wrongfully.

Verily! Allah commands that you should render back the trusts to those, to whom they are due; and that when you judge between men, you judge with justice. Verily, how excellent is the teaching which He (Allah) gives you! Truly, Allah is Ever All Hearer All Seer

(An-Nisa 4:58.)

O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade amongst you, by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you.

(An-Nisa 4:29)

Shaikh was in South Africa giving a speech. He asked people to put up their hands if a Muslim had ripped them off in the past. 99% of them put up their hand.

A person came after and said he didn't put up his hand because he was embarrassed that he had been ripped off by Muslims.

A sign of the last day is that there will be no amanah.

Anas Ibn Malik (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) has never preached us without saying: "There is no faith for the one who has no amanah (trust) and no religion for the one who does not keep his promises."

[Musnad Ahmad (3/135) No. 12406, al-Sunan al-Kubra al-Bayhaqi (9/387) No. 18851]

There is no one who you can trust.

We should be able to trust you with our secrets, our wealth and our properties and our womenfolk.

Abu Hurayra (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), said, "Anyone who carries arms against us is not one of us. Anyone who cheats us is not one of us."

[Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith #182]

Verily! Man (disbeliever) is ungrateful to his Lord; And to that fact he bears witness (by his deeds); And verily, he is violent in the love of wealth.

(Al-'Adiyat 100:6-8)

People believe the end justifies the means. They want to get rich and they don't give a damn how.

And you devour inheritance all with greed, And you love wealth with much love!

(Al-Fajr 89:19-20)

You even fight and kill each other over inheritance. Your love for wealth is insatiable.

The people of Shuaib (AS) also started highway robbery.

There are many Muslims who don't go to Jumuah because they love wealth.

Men whom neither trade nor sale diverts them from the Remembrance of Allah (with heart and tongue), nor from performing AsSalat (Iqamat-as-Salat), nor from giving the Zakat. They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned (from the horror of the torment of the Day of Resurrection).

(An-Nur 24:37)

Allah (AS) spoke about the real men in the above-mentioned ayah.

They don't allow their trade to take them away from the remembrance of Allah (SWT).

Some people can't leave the till because they are afraid people are going to steal from it when they are not looking.

The merchants will be resurrected as evil men except those of them who were truthful.

It was narrated from Rifaa’ah ibn Raafi’ (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The merchants will be raised on the Day of Resurrection as evildoers, apart from those who fear Allah and are honest.”

[Sunan al-Tirmidhi (3/507) No. 1210, Sunan al-Darime (2/322) No. 2538, Sunan Ibn Majah (3/277) No. 2146, Ibn Hibban (11/276-277) No. 4910, Mustadrak al-Haakim (2/8) No. 2144; Abu Esa said: It is hasan saheeh. al-Haakim said this hadith has Sahih isnaad but they (Two Shaikhs) did not narrate it; adh-Dhahabi graded this Sahih]

There is no barakah in their wealth because it is ill-gotten gains.

There is even a dua that you recite before entering the market place.

DUA FOR THE MARKET PLACE

"There is none worthy of worship besides Allah. He is all by Himself. He has no partner. His is the Kingdom, to Him is all praise. He gives and takes life. He is all by Himself. He will not die. In His hands is all good and He has control (power) over all things". It is stated in the hadith that if a person reads the above dua in the market place, Allah writes ten lakh rewards for him and forgives ten lakh sins and raises his status by ten lakh and a house is prepared for him in Jannah. N.B. one lakh = 100,000

(Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

The worst place is the market place but the best place is the masjid.

The best of places are the Mosques and the worst of places are the markets.”

(Tabarani, Hasan)

Some examples of how people can be evil in their transactions:

Abu Huraira narrated the Prophet (SAW) said: “The one who gets married with the intention not to pay dowry to his wife is a fornicator. And the one who borrows money with the intention not to pay back is a thief.”

[Ibn Hibban in ‘al-Majruheen’ (2/261) No. 941]

The story of Shuaib is very important, because these people are plenty in our midst today.

When they rip of the Muslims, they have to give the Muslims their deeds on Judgment Day.

They hide behind the cloak of Islam to cheat Muslims out of their life savings.

Selling used cars requires lying. Otherwise you won't make money.

Getting rich from clandestine activities like the people of Shuaib means you have no barakah in your money.

'Abdullah ibn 'Amr narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said, "If anyone has four characteristics, he is a pure hypocrite, and if anyone has one of them, he has an aspect of hypocrisy until he gives it up: whenever he is trusted, he betrays his trust; whenever he speaks, he lies; when he makes an agreement, he breaks it; and when he quarrels, he deviates from the truth by speaking falsely."

[Al-Bukhari (34) and Muslim (58]

A person who is clandestine activities is a munafiq.

Wathila ibn al-Asqa’ (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said, “Whoever sells defective goods without declaring it remains in the wrath of Allah or [he said)] the angles keep cursing him.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 2873)

The munafiq says wallahi in order to cheat you.

Allah (SWT) said the munafiq hides behind their wallahi.

They have made their oaths a screen (for their hypocrisy). Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allah. Verily, evil is what they used to do.

(Al-Munafiqun 63:2)

The people of Shuaib also introduced the practice of bribery and taxation.

They introduced highway robbery and cheating with the scales.

from Abdullah ibn Amri that the Prophet (SAW) cursed both the receiver and the giver of bribe.

[Tirmidhi 1342, Abu Dawud 3580, Ibn e Majah 2313, Ahmed 7003]

If you don't give bribes in Pakistan, you won't get a passport for a year.

If you pay a bribe, you get a passport within a week or three days.

So some people say the above hadith is not practical.

The people of Shuaib introduced so many things and they are very deceptive.

They were the first people to come up with instalments.

When you have a stable job, they give you a credit card and you buy everything on credit.

How will you pay back for those things if you lose your job?

The people of Shuaib were con artists.

Anas Ibn Malik narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "A believer is shrewd, sharp and careful."

[Quda'ee (d. 454 H) in 'Musnad al-Shihab' (Vol. 1 pg. 107) No. 128]

Some of you have lost your live savings.

What about firaasa, the ability to sniff out people and know that they are up to no good?

Abu Huraira (RA) narrated the Prophet (SAW) said: "A believer is not bitten from the same hole twice.”

[Related by al-Bukhari (6133) and Muslim (2998]

We're not saying you are a kaafir. We are saying there is something wrong for you to be conned twice.

There is no fool like the old fool.

When you are 50 or 60, you should have said I've seen It all and you shouldn't have been ripped off again.

Your age should have made you wise.

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik (RA) that the Prophet (SAW) said: “No one of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself”

[Al-Bukhari (13) and Muslim (45)]

When you rip a person off, the person is considered oppressed.

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: The Prophet sent Mu'adh to Yemen and said, "Fear the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah"

[Al-Bukhari (1496) and Muslim (19)]

The Prophet (SAWS) told Muadh ibn Jabal (RA) when he was sending him as an ambassador to Yemen to fear the dua of the oppressed.

Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger said, "Three prayers are surely answered: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveller, and the supplication of the father for his son."

[Sunan Tirmidhi (5/502) No. 3448, Sunan Ibn Majah (5/30) No. 3862, Musnad Ahmad (2/258) No. 7501, Sunan Abu Dawud (2/89) No. 1536]

Allah (SWT) will always answer the Dua of the oppressed.

So beware of behaving like the people of Shuaib going around and cheating people.

The whole of a Muslim is inviolable for another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honour."

[Sahih Muslim (4/1986) No. 2564]

Umm Salamah (RA) reported: Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "I am only a human being, and you people have disputes. May be someone amongst you can present his case in a more eloquent and convincing manner than the other, and I give my judgment in his favor according to what I hear. Beware! If ever I give (by error) somebody something of his brother's right then he should not take it as I have only, given him a piece of Fire."

[Al-Bukhari (6967) and Muslim (1713)]

Don't behave like the people of Shuaib (AS), deceiving people.

You go to the stock market to buy corn and peas that haven't been planted yet and you are selling it that is haram.

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: He who buys food grain should not sell it until he has taken possession of it.

{Sahih Muslim Book 10, Number 3640}

The Rasul said najsh (to inflate the price with a fake bidder) is haram.

habala to buy a she camel before its born

Forty hadith (Hadith no: 35)
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA) who said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Do not envy one another, and do not inflate prices for one another, and do not hate one another, and do not turn away from one another, and do not undercut one another in trade, but [rather] be slaves of Allah and brothers [amongst yourselves]. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim: he does not oppress him, nor does he fail him, nor does he lie to him, nor does he hold him in contempt. Taqwa (piety) is right here [and he pointed to his chest three times]. It is evil enough for a man to hold his brother Muslim in contempt. The whole of a Muslim is inviolable for another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honor."

[Sahih Muslim (4/1986) No. 2564]

The Rasul said habla (to buy a she camel before it is born) is haram.

Gharar = to sell a bird in the air or a fish still in the sea/river

Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that the people of pre-Islamic days used to sell the meat of the slaughtered camel up to habal al-habala. And habal al-habala implies that a she-camel should give birth and then the (born one should grow young) and become pregnant. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) forbade them that (this transaction).

(Sahih Muslim: Book 10, chapter 3 hadith 3616)

The Prophet said gharar (to sell a bird in the air of a fish still in the sea/river) is haram.

The people of Shuaib (AS) indulged in all these trading activities.

It was narrated that Hakim bin Hizam said: I asked the Prophet (PBUH), “O Messenger of Allah, a man may come to me and ask me to sell him something that I do not have. Can I sell it to him then go and buy it from the market?” He said, “Do not sell what you do not have.”

(Sunan An-Nasa’i, Vol. 5 Book of Financial Transactions, Hadith No. 4617).

You are allowed to buy from a mushrik.

The Prophet bought a sheep from a mushrik.

Narrated Abd Ar-Rahman bin Abu Bakr (RA): We were with the Prophet (PBUH) when a tall mushrik with long matted unkempt hair came driving his sheep. The Prophet (PBUH) asked him, “Are those sheep for sale or gift?” The mushrik replied, “They are for sale.” The Prophet (PBUH) bought one sheep from him.”

{Trans Sahih Al Bukhari Vol: 3 Book 34 Hadith: 2216}

If you tell the Muslims they can't trade with the kuffar, you are using Islam to strangle the Muslims and Islam is no longer workable in our society.

As for buying currencies, you are allowed to do so if the transaction takes place the very same day.

If the money is paid at a later day, it is haram.

The longest ayah of the Qur'an talks about money.

O you who believe When you contract a debt for a fixed period, write it down

(Al-Baqarah 2:282)

People kill each other over money everyday.

Narrated Abu Al-Minhal: I used to practise money exchange, and I asked Al Bara’ bin Azib and Za’id bin Arqam (RA) about practising money exchange. They replied, “We were traders in the lifetime of Rasool-Allah (PBUH) and I asked Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) about money exchange. He replied: If it is from hand to hand, there is no harm in it; but if there is delay in payment then it is not permissible.”

(Trans Sahih Al Bukhari Vol 3 book 34 Hadith 2060/2061)

The people of Shuaib (AS) didn't want to write it down when they borrow money because their intention is to rip you off.

The people of Shuaib (AS) started the business of instalments, buying things on credit.

"That which is left by Allah for you (after giving the rights of the people) is better for you, if you are believers. And I am not set over you as a guardian.

(Hud 11:86)

Allah (SWT) told them in the above-mentioned ayah that the little Allah (SWT) is giving them is better than them living their lives in debt.

If you are buying things on credit, this can be very stressful.

The only time you have to pay the bank back is when you are living in Darul Islam.

You don't have to pay back the kaafir unless it is one individual kaafir.

You don't have to pay a kaafir bank back.

Allah (SWT) said the message of Shuaib (AS) was like the other prophets, tawheed.

And to (the people of) Madyan (Midian), (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)]." Verily, a clear proof (sign) from your Lord has come unto you; so give full measure and full weight and wrong not men in their things, and do not mischief on the earth after it has been set in order, that will be better for you, if you are believers. "And sit not on every road, threatening, and hindering from the Path of Allah those who believe in Him. and seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were but few, and He multiplied you. And see what was the end of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers, corrupts, liars). "And if there is a party of you who believes in that with which I have been sent and a party who do not believe, so be patient until Allah judges between us, and He is the Best of judges."

(Al-A'raf 7:85-87)

The chiefs of those who were arrogant among his people said: "We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu'aib, and those who have believed with you from our town, or else you (all) shall return to our religion." He said: "Even though we hate it! "We should have invented a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion, after Allah has rescued us from it. And it is not for us to return to it unless Allah, our Lord, should will. Our Lord comprehends all things in His Knowledge. In Allah (Alone) we put our trust. Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of those who give judgment." The chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said (to their people) : "If you follow Shu'aib, be sure then you will be the losers!"So the earthquake seized them and they lay (dead), prostrate in their homes.

(Al-A'raf 7:88-91)

Those who belied Shu'aib, became as if they had never dwelt there (in their homes). Those who belied Shu'aib, they were the losers. Then he (Shu'aib) turned from them and said: "O my people! I have indeed conveyed my Lord's Messages unto you and I have given you good advice. Then how can I sorrow for the disbelieving people's (destruction)."

(Al-A'raf 7:92-93)

Even though the people were cheating with the scales, he started his message with tauheed.

The people of Shuaib (AS) became bullies because they were rich.

They used to harass the believers.

When the truth arrived in Madyan, it split the community. Some believed in Shuaib (AS) and others didn't.

They said they are going to drive out Shuaib (AS) from their city.

The homosexuals said the same thing to Prophet Lut (AS).

And the answer of his people was only that they said: "Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!"

(Al-A'raf 7:82)

Allah (SWT) said the chiefs of the city were the people who plotted to drive Shuaib (AS) out of the land.

And thus We have set up in every town great ones of its wicked people to plot therein. But they plot not except against their own selves, and they perceive (it) not.

(Al-An'am 6:123)

Allah (SWT) spoke about the people of Shuaib (AS) in Surah 11:84-95

And to the Madyan (Midian) people (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah, you have no other Ilah (God) but Him, and give not short measure or weight, I see you in prosperity; and verily I fear for you the torment of a Day encompassing. "And O my people! Give full measure and weight in justice and reduce not the things that are due to the people, and do not commit mischief in the land, causing corruption. "That which is left by Allah for you (after giving the rights of the people) is better for you, if you are believers. And I am not set over you as a guardian. They said: "O Shu'aib! Does your Salat (prayer) (i.e. the prayers which you offer has spoiled your mind, so you) command that we leave off what our fathers used to worship, or that we leave off doing what we like with our property? Verily, you are the forbearer, right-minded!" (They said this sarcastically).

(Hud 11:84-87)

He said: "O my people! Tell me, if I have a clear evidence from my Lord, and He has given me a good sustenance from Himself (shall I corrupt it by mixing it with the unlawfully earned money). I wish not, in contradiction to you, to do that which I forbid you. I only desire reform so far as I am able, to the best of my power. And my guidance cannot come except from Allah, in Him I trust and unto Him I repent. "And O my people! Let not my Shiqaq cause you to suffer the fate similar to that of the people of Nuh (Noah) or of Hud or of Salih (Saleh), and the people of Lout (Lot) are not far off from you! "And ask forgiveness of your Lord and turn unto Him in repentance. Verily, my Lord is Most Merciful, Most Loving."

(Hud 11:88-90)

They said: "O Shu'aib! We do not understand much of what you say, and we see you a weak (man, it is said that he was a blind man) among us. Were it not for your family, we should certainly have stoned you and you are not powerful against us." He said: "O my people! Is then my family of more weight with you than Allah? And you have cast Him away behind your backs. Verily, my Lord is surrounding all that you do. "And O my people! Act according to your ability and way, and I am acting (on my way). You will come to know who it is on whom descends the torment that will covering him with ignominy, and who is a liar! And watch you! Verily, I too am watching with you."

(Hud 11: 91-93)

And when Our Commandment came, We saved Shu'aib and those who believed with him by a Mercy from Us. And As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) seized the wrong-doers, and they lay (dead) prostrate in their homes. As if they had never lived there! So away with Madyan (Midian)! As away with Thamud! (All these nations were destroyed).

(Hud 11:94-95)

When you see people become rich, you don't know how they became rich.

There is no point in envying the kuffar for their wealth.

The people of Shuaib (AS) attacked salah.

Their only evidence for worshipping wood and stone is that their fathers used to do it.

They said to Shuaib (AS) to bring his money so that they could invest it for him.

They wanted to corrupt his wealth so he can't enjoin the right and forbid the wrong anymore.

He asked how can he bring his wealth which is halal and corrupt it with their haram wealth.

He said to them that he can't contradict the thing which he is preaching.

Enjoin you Al-Birr (piety and righteousness and each and every act of obedience to Allah) on the people and you forget (to practise it) yourselves, while you recite the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]! Have you then no sense?

(Al-Baqarah 2:44)

Allah (SWT) spoke about such people in Surah 2:44.

The kuffar of Quraish invited the sahabas to do haram as well.

They used to eat animals that died themselves.

They said Allah (SWT) killed it so it is halal.

Eat not (O believers) of that (meat) on which Allah's Name has not been pronounced (at the time of the slaughtering of the animal), for sure it is Fisq (a sin and disobedience of Allah)

(Al-An'am 6:121)

It is called an indecent proposal.

Eat not (O believers) of that (meat) on which Allah's Name has not been pronounced (at the time of the slaughtering of the animal), for sure it is Fisq (a sin and disobedience of Allah). And certainly, the Shayatin (devils) do inspire their friends (from mankind) to dispute with you, and if you obey them [by making Al Maytatah (a dead animal) legal by eating it] then you would indeed be Mushrikun (polytheists) [because they (devils and their friends) made lawful to you to eat that which Allah has made unlawful to eat and you obeyed them by considering it lawful to eat, and by doing so you worshipped them, and to worship others besides Allah is polytheism]

(Al-An'am 6:121)

Kaafirs will always make indecent proposals so you lose your furqan and your moral standing.

You have to be on your guard.

They want you to compromise on your Deen.

History repeats itself.

What was the straw that broke the camel's back?

Why did Shuaib (AS) make a dua against them?

The chiefs of those who were arrogant among his people said: "We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu'aib, and those who have believed with you from our town, or else you (all) shall return to our religion." He said: "Even though we hate it!

(Al-A'raf 7:88.)

They started to plot against him and gave him an ultimatum to practice paganism with them.

Kuffar are dictators because they gave him no choice.

The chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said (to their people) : "If you follow Shu'aib, be sure then you will be the losers!" So the earthquake seized them and they lay (dead), prostrate in their homes.

(Al-A'raf 7:90-91)

Bush said "you're either with us or you're with the terrorists".

Cameron said if you don't accept homosexuality we are going to cut off your funding.

Allah (SWT) told Shuaib (AS) to leave the city because the city was about to be destroyed.

The people of Shuaib (AS) said if you follow Shuaib (AS) you will be a loser; they meant economically.

Shuaib (AS) went back to the city after the earthquake.

He didn't feel guilty about their destruction.

He did the duty that was incumbent on him.

He said how can he grieve over a disbelieving people.

The Holy Messenger (saw)said: “Let the slave of Dinar and the Dirham, of Qatifah and Khamisa (i.e. money and luxurious clothes) perish (in his misery) because he is pleased if these things are given to him and if not he becomes miserable and frustrated”.

[Sahih Bukhari (Arabic/English) Vol.4 pg.88 No.137]

They used Prophet Shuaib's (AS) humanity against him.

They accused him of having an ulterior motive.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, " Let the slave of Dinar and Dirham, of Quantify and Khamisa perish as he is pleased if these things are given to him, and if not, he is displeased. Let such a person perish and relapse, and if he is pierced with a thorn, let him not find anyone to take it out for him. Paradise is for him who holds the reins of his horse to strive in Allah's Cause, with his hair unkempt and feet covered with dust: If he is appointed in the vanguard, he is perfectly satisfied with his post of guarding, and if he is appointed in the rearward, he accepts his post with satisfaction; (he is so simple and unambiguous that) if he asks for permission he is not permitted, and if he intercedes, his intercession is not accepted."

{Trans Sahih Al Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 137}

It doesn't make sense because he didn't beg them for anything.

All he did was to tell them to abandon shirk and to purify their trading transactions.

They tried to seduce him to give them his wealth to invest it for him.

He said he won't because he can't contradict what he is preaching.

Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)to these Mushrikun and Kafirun) : "O Al-Kafirun (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar, etc.)! "I worship not that which you worship,

(Al-Kafirun 109:1-2)

They told him to worship idols and gave him an ultimatum.

They did the same thing to the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS).

"And O my people! Let not my Shiqaq cause you to suffer the fate similar to that of the people of Nuh (Noah) or of Hud or of Salih (Saleh), and the people of Lout (Lot) are not far off from you!

(Hud 11:89)

Shuaib (AS) warned them about the people of Noah (AS), Hud (AS), Saleh (AS) and Lut (AS).

They didn't take heed from the stories of the previous prophets.

Shuaib (AS) was called khateeb anbiya.

They said: "O Shu'aib! We do not understand much of what you say, and we see you a weak (man, it is said that he was a blind man) among us. Were it not for your family, we should certainly have stoned you and you are not powerful against us."

(Hud 11:91)

Even so, they lied and said they don't understand what he is saying.

Another dua of Shuaib (AS) can be found in Surah 7:89

"We should have invented a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion, after Allah has rescued us from it. And it is not for us to return to it unless Allah, our Lord, should will. Our Lord comprehends all things in His Knowledge. In Allah (Alone) we put our trust. Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of those who give judgment."

(Al-A'raf 7:89)

Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: The Prophet (SAW) said, "There are three qualities whoever has them, will taste the sweetness of Iman (faith): To love Allah and His Messenger (SAW) more than anyone else; to love a slave (of Allah) only for (the sake of) Allah; and to abhor returning to infidelity after Allah has saved him from it as he would abhor to be thrown into the fire (of Hell)"

[Al-Bukhari (21) and Muslim (43)]
