10 THE STORY OF PROPHET AYYUB (AS) JOB {JANUARY 09 2014}

THE STORY OF PROPHET
AYYUB (AS) JOB

CHAPTER 10

January 09 2014 / 08 Rabi Al Awwal 1435 Hijri

By Shaikh Abdullah Faisal

Note Taken By: Al Guraba

Edited By Abu Hafiza

This story of prophet Ayyub (AS) is different to other prophets, as Allah (SWT) focused on the characteristics of prophet Ayyub (AS), by showing us how prophet Ayyub (AS) was steadfast after facing setbacks, illnesses etc.

The story of Ayyub (AS) is important for us, as it talks about patience and we will all face hardships in life.

We will suffer catastrophes and disasters, man-made and natural, so in these instances you should take lessons from the story of Ayyub (AS) and do not apostate from Islam because of a calamity befalling you.

And among mankind is he who worships Allah as it were, upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss.

(Al-Hajj 22:11)

The story of Ayyub (AS) is for you to stay steadfast in the face of a calamity, be steadfast in prosperity and adversity.

Do not be like the person described in above ayah.

Prophet Ayyub (AS) was from the lineage of Esau and prophet Adam (AS) was black.

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. (Al-Hijr 15:26) Sahih International

Prophet Ayyub (AS) and prophet Jesus (AS) were white. This 'white' is the middle eastern white.

As for Luqman, (AS) he was black, from Sudan.

The prophet Muhammad (SAWS) was white and not black.

The wife of prophet Ayyub (AS) was a descendant of prophet Yusuf (AS).

The mother of prophet Ayyub (AS) was the daughter of prophet Lut (AS).

Allah (SWT) blessed them with; wealth, handsomeness, good health.

Prophet Ayyub (AS) resembled Abu Bakr (RA) in character.

Prophet Ayyub (AS) used to share his wealth with poor people. He used to buy them food and clothes and he used to use his wealth to set the slaves free.

Whenever the poor people accepted his wealth, he used to tell them, 'you did me a favour by accepting my sadaqah'.

one of the signs of the last days is that there will be a lot of wealth, and no one will accept your wealth as everyone will be wealthy.

And remember Our slave Ayub (Job), when he invoked his Lord (saying) : "Verily! Shaitan (Satan) has touched me with distress (by losing my health) and torment (by losing my wealth)!

(Sad 38:41)

Prophet Ayyub (AS) lived for 99 years

Because he was so kind to his servants and to the poor people. prophet Ayyub (AS) humbled himself by giving charity, so the angels were impressed by him.

The shaytaan overheard this and set out to destroy prophet Ayyub (AS), shaytaan thought, prophet Ayyub was only worshipping Allah (SWT) because prophet Ayyub (AS) was suffering from  peniaphobia, which is a fear of poverty.

Iblees said to Allah, (SWT) if you take away the wealth away from prophet Ayyub, (AS) his tongue will no longer move with zikrullah and he will no longer pray.

Allah (SWT) warned iblees, that prophet Ayyub (AS) was worshipping Him because of sincerity, so the shaytaan begged Allah (SWT) to allow him to have dominion over the wealth of prophet Ayyub (AS).

So because of this, all the cows and animals of prophet Ayyub (AS) died, and prophet Ayyub (AS) became penniless. so iblees came as an old man to prophet Ayyub (AS) said, are you going to continue to worship Allah (SWT) now that you now have nothing? Prophet Ayyub (AS) said, he was only a trustee over the wealth, and he continued to pray to Allah (SWT) and iblees became disappointed.

So the shaytaan was proven wrong.

So shaytaan went back to Allah (SWT) and said he is only worshipping You, because he still has kids (7 sons), so take them away and watch him apostate.

Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world's life; but Allah has the excellent return (Paradise with flowing rivers, etc.) with Him.

(Aali Imran 3:14)

So iblees was given dominion over the kids of prophet Ayyub, (AS) so one day the earth shook violently and the house of Ayyub (AS) collapsed killing the 7 sons of prophet Ayyub (AS).

Yet prophet Ayyub (AS) did not waver and continued to pray to Allah (SWT), so the shaytaan became very annoyed.

Iblees said to Allah (SWT), the only reason Ayyub (AS) is still hanging in there is because his health is still there. Take away the health and see him apostate.

So iblees begged Allah (SWT) to give him dominion over the health of prophet Ayyub (AS).

So when he got dominion over the health of prophet Ayyub (AS), prophet Ayyub (AS) got sores all over his body and his body started to smell as a result, which caused him to lose all his friends, and his friends started to accuse him of doing some evil deed which has caused him to now have no wealth, health or children.

They made complete baraa from him.

The only person that stood by him was his wife.

Some scholars say prophet Yusuf (AS) got married to Zulekha, as her husband died and she was a virgin as her husband was impotent.

Prophet Ayyub's (AS) friends dumped him because of illness; he lost his wealth and his children, so the only person who stood by him was his wife. Even in this condition, he still worshipped Allah (SWT) and remained patient.

One of the shayateen said to iblees, why were you able to trick Adam (AS) and get him out of paradise, but when you come up against Ayyub (AS), you fail miserably.

Iblees said, look what is going to happen to him now, there is one more card to play, the 4th card, I will get him through his wife.

The wife of prophet Ayyub (AS) was Rahma.

Iblees came to prophet Ayyub's (AS) wife as an old man and asked 'where is your husband', she pointed towards a man lying on his bed, hanging between life and death.

Iblees reminded her of the goods times she had when Ayyub (AS) was rich, iblees reminded her of the state now saying now she has to go round and clean people's houses and before you were the wealthiest woman in the city.

She burst into tears and asked prophet Ayyub (AS), how long will we remain in this state, without children or wealth and facing this tribulation.

And (remember) Ayub (Job), when he cried to his Lord: "Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy. "So We answered his call, and We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his family to him (that he had lost), and the like thereof along with them, as a mercy from Ourselves and a Reminder for all who worship Us.

(Al-Anbiya 21:83-84)

Prophet Ayyub (AS) sighed, and he said in a weak voice, iblees has whispered to you and made you dissatisfied.

He asked how many years did they have blessings for? She said 80 years and how many years did they have adversity, she said 18 years.

He then made an oath by Allah (SWT) that he would lash his wife for what she said.

One day Allah (SWT) told prophet Ayyub (AS) to strike the ground with his foot and a spring gushed forth and he bathed in that and his leprosy was cured and he was restored to his former self.

He Strike the ground a second time, and Allah (SWT) told him to drink the 2nd spring and prophet Ayyub (AS) became a strong man once again.

The wife of prophet Ayyub (AS) came home and could not recognise her husband.

The Tafsir of the ayah above, Allah (SWT) brought back to life the seven sons of Ayyub (AS) that died, and then Allah (SWT) gave him seven more sons, to give him fourteen sons.

Why? Because after every hardship comes two ease.

So verily, with the hardship, there is relief, (Ash-Sharh 94:5)

Verily, with the hardship, there is relief (i.e. there is one hardship with two reliefs, so one hardship cannot overcome two reliefs).

(Ash-Sharh 94:6)

And Allah (SWT) gave him three daughters alongside the fourteen sons.

How do we know it was the shaytaan behind all of this? The Quran states this clearly.

And remember Our slave Ayub (Job), when he invoked his Lord (saying): "Verily! Shaitan (Satan) has touched me with distress (by losing my health) and torment (by losing my wealth)!

(Sad 38:41)

All the cards the shaytaan played all failed.

Now that prophet Ayyub (AS) regained his health, wealth and his children he was now faced with a dilemma.

The dilemma was the oath he took wallahi he would lash his wife. he did not want to lash his wife because he loved his wife and because she stood by him when all his friends left him to rot.

She stood by him because she remembered the good days when he looked after her when he was rich, and she stood by him also because his love to her was real.

But prophet Ayyub (AS) had to stand by his oath because he said wallahi, but the prophets never beat up any of their wives, so he was in a dilemma.

When Allah (SWT) saw the plight of Ayyub (AS), Allah (SWT) gave him a way to get out of this predicament.

And take in your hand a bundle of thin grass and strike therewith (your wife), and break not your oath. Truly! We found him patient. How excellent (a) slave! Verily, he was ever oft returning in repentance (to Us)!

(Sad 38:44)

So Allah (SWT) told him to take 100 strands of grass and hit her once. Allah (SWT) told him to use grass because grass cannot hurt.

This is how he got out of the predicament he was in.

There are many lessons to be learnt from this story.

THE 15 LESSONS FROM PROPHET AYYUB

#1 ALLAH (SWT) SHALL TEST YOU

And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return."

(Al-Baqarah 2:155-156)

Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allāh will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allāh knows all that before putting them to test).

(Al-'Ankabut 29:2-3)

The test is at the first sign of the calamity.

#2 YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BE AWARE OF SATAN'S WEB

Prophet Ayyub (AS) knew all the tests he faced were the handiworks of shaytaan, which is why he complained to Allah (SWT) about this.

And remember Our slave Ayûb (Job), when he invoked his Lord (saying):"Verily! Shaitān (Satan) has touched me with distress (by losing my health) and torment (by losing my wealth)!

(Sad 38:41)

#3 THE BEST THING YOU CAN HAVE IN THE DUNYA IS A PIOUS WIFE

It was narrated that Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “There are four things that are essential for happiness: a righteous wife, a spacious home, a good neighbour and a sound means of transportation. And there are four things that make one miserable: a bad neighbour, a bad wife, a small house and a bad means of transportation.”

[Narrated by Ibn Hibban in al-Saheehah (Vol. 9, pg.340) No. 4032]

Narrated By Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a losers.

[Al-Bukhari (5090) and Muslim (1466)]

#4 WHEN YOU ARE DOWN AND OUT, MOST OF THE PEOPLE DUMP YOU

Some people when you are down and out will kick you, only a few will only be there to pick you up. Many people are your friends to benefit from you in some way or another.

#5 AFTER EVERY DIFFICULTY COMES TWO EASE

So verily, with the hardship, there is relief, (Ash-Sharh 94:5)

Verily, with the hardship, there is relief (i.e. there is one hardship with two reliefs, so one hardship cannot overcome two reliefs). (Ash-Sharh 94:6)

#6 YOUR ENEMIES WILL FOREVER GO AFTER YOUR WEALTH, HEALTH AND YOUR FAMILY

#7 YOUR HEALTH AND WEALTH IS YOUR HONOUR

The friends of Ayyub (AS) dumped him when he lost his wealth and health.

#8 SHAYTAAN NEVER GIVES UP

He kept begging Allah (SWT) to give him dominion over prophet Ayyub's (AS) health, wealth and children.

#9 THE SHAYTAAN TRIES TO COME TO YOU FROM YOUR WIFE, IF YOU THE MAN IS TOO STRONG FOR HIM

Shaytan can assume any form he desires in order to deceive man. He can come to you when you are dying in the form of your deceased Mother or Father or close friend saying: "I come to you from the other life and I have found that Christianity is the truth."

{Related by Dr. Umar Al-Ashqar Al-Yawn Al-Aakhir - Al-Quyaam As-Sughraa p.29}

#10 PROPHETS ARE FROM NOBLE LINEAGE

Ayyub (AS) came from the lineage of Ishaq (AS)

#11 IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY YOUR WEALTH, YOU HAVE TO SHARE IT

It is impossible to enjoy your wealth until you share it.

Look at Bill Gates and the Bill Gates foundation etc

When you give sadaqah and they accept it, they do you a favour, as sins are washed away due to this.

On the authority of Muadh, bin Jabal (RA) who said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, charity wipes away sin as water extinguishes fire;

[Sunan Tirmidhi (5/11) No. 2616, Sunan Ibn Majah (5/116) No. 3973, Musnad Ahmad (5/231) No. 22069]

The he recited [the verses], “Who forsakes their beds” until he reached, “they used to do”. Then he said, “Shall I inform you of the head of the matter, its pillar and its apex?” I said, “Certainly, O Prophet of Allah.” He said, “The head of the matter is submission [to Allah]. Its pillar is the prayer. And its apex is jihad.” Then he said, “Shall I not inform you of what controls all of this?” I said, “Certainly, O Prophet of Allah.” He took hold of his tongue and said, “Restrain this.” I said, “O Prophet of Allah, will we be held accountable for what we say?” He said, “May your mother be bereaved of you, O Muaadh. Is there anything that has thrown people on their faces – or he said on their noses – into the Fire except that which their tongues reap?”

(Recorded in al-Tirmidhi)

#12 YOU DO THE RICH A FAVOUR WHEN YOU ACCEPT THEIR CHARITY

Because by accepting their charity, you cause their sins to be washed away.

#13 SICKNESS IS FROM IBLEES

And remember Our slave Ayûb (Job), when he invoked his Lord (saying):"Verily! Shaitān (Satan) has touched me, with distress (by losing my health) and torment (by losing my wealth)!

(Sad 38:41)

All the diseases like TB etc are all from the jinn and the shaiteen.

The ayah above is clear.

#14 DOES NOT APOSTATE DUE TO A CALAMITY

Do not apostate because after a calamity comes two ease.

And among mankind is he who worships Allāh as it were, upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islam) He loses both this world and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss.

(Al-Hajj 22:11)

Abu Talhah (RA) narrated: We complained to Allah’s Messenger (SAW) about our hunger and raising from our stomach (the garment) bared the stone each of us had tied to it. He showed that he had two stones (tied to his stomach)

[Sunan Tirmidhi (4/585) No. 2371, Bayhaqi in ‘Shu'ab al Emaan’ (13/54) No. 9943]

On the authority of Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him."

[Sahih Bukhari (4/61) No. 3017, Musnad Ahmad (1/322) No. 2968, Sunan al-Nasa'i (7/104) No. 4059, Sunan Ibn Majah (3/574) No. 2535, Sunan Abu Dawud (4/126) No. 4351, Sunan Tirmidhi (4/59) No. 1458]

#15 WIVES BEATING IS HARAM IN ISLAM

As to those women on whose part you see ill conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful), but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allāh is Ever Most High, Most Great.

(An-Nisa 4:34)

When it talks about beating wives lightly, it means you cannot leave any marks, and it cannot be on the face.

"And take in your hand a bundle of thin grass and strike therewith (your wife), and break not your oath. Truly! We found him patient. How excellent (a) slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)!

(Sad 38:44)

#16 WEALTH COMES AND GOES

and it is a test from Allah (SWT)

And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sābirin (the patient ones, etc.).

(Al-Baqarah 2:155)
