بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
سُوۡرَةُ الاٴعلی

MARCH 30 2014 / 29 JAMADA AL ULA 1435 HIJRI

By Shaikh AAbdullah Al Faisal

EDITED BY Abu Hafiza &

This surah was revealed in Makkah (we can see this instinctively as the subject matter is Tawheed)

The prophet would recite surah Ala’a and surah Ghashiah in salatul Jumah.

The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also used to recite these two surahs in salatul Eid as well.

He would also recite it in his witr if he would pray three units of witr., The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would recite surah Ala'a in the first rakah, Surah Kaafiroon in second rakah and  Surah Ikhlas in the third rakah.

Witr is sunnah mu’akada.

It is a short surah with 19 ayahs.

سبح اسم ربك الأعلى

Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High,

(Al-A'la 87:1)

Allah Ta’ala is the Most High

The Pharoah made a claim that he is the most high., this claim wasn't even made by ibless (shaitaan)

Then he gathered his people and cried aloud, Saying: "I am your lord, most high",

(An-Nazi'at 79:23-24)

The claim of Pharoah is made mention of in the above verse.

Allah {SWT} is the Most High this is one of His name (among the other names)

The name of your Lord is Allah {SWT} (the greatest name)

Not Jehovah, yahoveh, dios (Latin and Spanish), god (English)

The Christians in Malaysia took the case in the court to use the name Allah in their church

They lost the case in court, because they don't understand who Allah (SWT) is

They think Allah (SWT) begot a son. Beget means to impregnate a woman by way of sex.

They also believe Allah (SWT) came down on earth in form of Jesus and died on the cross for humankind to have salvation.

When we speak to a Muslim, we do not refer the Creator by God but rather Allah (SWT).

A true Muslim would be offended.

The Christians in Egypt say Allah, the Christians in Jordan say Allah, the Christians in Syria say Allah, the Jews in Yemen say Allah

Many people of the book around the world use Allah (SWT) for the Creator

When the Quraish asked the prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to described for them Allah (SWT), surah 112 was revealed.

Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) : "He is Allah, (the) One. "Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks). "He begets not, nor was He begotten; "And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him."

(Al-Ikhlas 112:1-4)

Allah (SWT) revealed surah ikhlas to answer to pagans as to who Allah (SWT) is

Narrators by Malik b. Mighwal. This verse adds: "He has asked Allah using His Greatest Name."

{Sunan Abu Dawud 1494} & Book 8 Hadith 1489}

Surah ikhlass is equal to 1/3 of the holy Quran (if you recite it ., you get barakah of receipting 1/3 of Quran)

Allah (SWT) is the only appropriate name for the Creator.

It is also called al-ism al azam

This is because Allah (SWT) has 99 other names.

Abu Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e. one hundred minus one, and whoever 'ahsaha' (enumerates them, believes in them, ponders their meanings, worships Allah by them and supplicates with them, and acts by them according to one's belief in them) will enter Paradise.”

[Al-Bukhari (7392) and Muslim (2677)]

If you memorise them you will enter jannah (HADITH)

Because of “Sabbihi isma rabbika al-aa Ala”, the prophet (SAW) put this in the sajda. When you go in sajda you say “Subhana Rabbi Al Ala”.

The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used this ayah to put it in your sajda.

When we go down in rukuh .. we say .. Subhana Rabbi Al Azeem (Glory to my Lord the Most Great)

Which surah did the prophet use for this invocation.

The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used surah 56:96, “Fasabbih bismi rabbika a lA Aatheem”

So glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.

(Al-Waqi'ah 56:96)

`Uqbah bin `Amir Juhani that the Holy Prophet (upon whom be Allah's peace) had enjoined recitation of Subhana Rabbi yal-A Ya in the sajdah on the basis of this very verse, and the recitation of Subhana Rabbi yal-'Azim in ruku ` on the basis of the last verse of Surah AI-Waqi'ah, viz. Fa-sabhih bi-isrni-Rabbi-kal- Azim."

(Musnad Ahmad, Abu Da'ud, lbn Majah, Ibn Hibban, Hakim, Ibn al-Mundhir)

The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used surah Al Ala for Sajda, Surah al Waqiah for rukuh according to the sahabas.

The worst deviation is to ascribe names to Allah, (SWT) He and His messenger did not mention

To call upon Allah Ta’ala with names that are not suitable for Allah (SWT).

This is a severe slander against the Most High

Examples:  The Christians accuse Allah (SWT) of begetting a son, they accuse Allah of repenting, and they accuse Allah for resting on the 7th day.

They also say Allah (SWT) repented

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

(John 3:16) King James Version

John 3:16 is proof is Allah begetting

They also say Allah rested on the 7th day after making of cosmos

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

(Genesis 2:2) King James Version

It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

{Exodus 31:17} King James Version

Genesis 6:6 is proof of Allah repenting

And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

(Genesis 6:6) King James Version

The 7-day Adventist, use the corruption in the bible to take Saturday off.

These are all fabrications to Allah's names and attributes.

This is also taught by us by prophet Yusuf in 12:39-40

They call upon Allah (SWT) by names that He did not legislate

"You do not worship besides Him but only names which you have named (forged), you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command (or the judgement) is for none but Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him (i.e. His Monotheism), that is the (true) straight religion, but most men know not.

(Yusuf 12:40)

And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allah, while he is being invited to Islam? And Allah guides not the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, wrongdoers and disbelievers) folk.

(As-Saff 61:7)

This could mean lying on Allah's (SWT) names and attributes or lying on what He has legislated or what his deen is

Many Muslims say we respect all religions. This is a statement of kufur.

The Christians say holy Mary mother of god, how can you respect these people who say Jesus is god.

This is blasphemous,

How can you respect the Christians say Mary is the mother of God

We can only respect the haqq

The Jews say that Jesus was a bastard child and Mary was a prostitute, can you as a Muslim respect that?

You are not allowed to respect any religion except Islam.

This is why SF was hated and kicked out from the UK.

The Hindus worship monkeys, snakes, elephants and rats, can you respect that

Allah (SWT) says in 9:29.

Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allah, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the Scripture  (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued

(At-Tawbah 9:29)

The purpose of interfaith is to put all religions on the same status.

Fitnah is shirk, 8:39.

And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do.

(Al-Anfal 8:39)

Allah (SWT) also tells us in surah Al-Anfal ayah 39

The Hindus also worship a penis (some of them) can you respect that.

You and you interfaith and can go to hell al fitnah in the aya is shirk (equating creation to the Creator)

We can only respect the HAQQ (ISLAM) and not the BA'ATIL (FALSEHOOD).

Allah (SWT) informs us that when we come across people who are talking about Allah's names and attributes and deen ., we are supposed to make barah (disavowal/ disassociation) from them,

Evidence is surah 6:68.

And when you (Muhammad SAW) see those who engage in a false conversation about Our Verses (of the Qur'an) by mocking at them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic. And if Shaitan (Satan) causes you to forget, then after the remembrance sit not you in the company of those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong doers, etc.)

(Al-An'am 6:68)

Allah (SWT) told you that he has the Most beautiful names, surah 7:180.

And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them, and leave the company of those who belie or deny (or utter impious speech against) His Names. They will be requited for what they used to do.

(Al-A'raf 7:180)

We can use the names of Allah (SWT) to seek nearness to Him (tawasul)

We describe Allah's name without tasbeeh, tehreef, tateel, tamtheel

Tashbeeh is equating

Tateel is rejecting and the muatilah (Mutazilites) did that

Tajseem is to anthromorphise Allah (SWT) to created beings

Tajseem is to say that Allah has a body like that of man. They are called the mujasimah.

The mujasimah are athromorphisists

Tafweed .. the one who does so are called mufawwida are agnostic Muslims.

The mufawwida claims he is not sure of  what Allah’s names mean. What a big lie!

uncertainity, which in itself is KUFR.

We believe in Allah’s 99 names without Tehreef.

Tahreef is to spell Allah’s name wrong to change the meaning. This is what the Jews do.

There is Tehreef in spelling, recitation and tafseer.

الذي خلق فسوى

Who has created (everything), and then proportioned it;

(Al-A'la 87:2)

Allah (SWT) is the One and Only Creator.

The greatest scientists can’t even create a house fly.

Evidence is surah 22:73.

O mankind! A similitude has been coined, so listen to it (carefully) : Verily! Those on whom you call besides Allah, cannot create (even) a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose. And if the fly snatched away a thing from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. So weak are (both) the seeker and the sought.

(Al-Hajj 22:73)

Allah (SWT) challenges all to create just a fly.

We are so pathetic., that if the fly was to take away something from us we can not even take it away.

But there are people who worship people and created things.

NATION OF ISLAM belief; the white man was created in a science lab

They believe there is a Creator besides Allah, this is shirk.

NOI is a kufr entity

Some people believe the AIDS virus was created by the white man to kill black people, to depopulate.

The illuminatie created the AIDS virus, this is madness as well.

Allah (SWT) is the only Creator.

Allah (SWT) created Gonorhea, syphilis, influenza, elephatantitis herphies, AIDS, hepatitis A, B, C etc. No mad scientists created these diseases.

The FBI agent spread AIDS virus in the black community but he did not create the virus.

Allah (SWT) is the one and only creator.

The mutazilities believe man creates his own actions., and this is also KUFR

"While Allah has created you and what you make!"

(As-Saffat 37:96)

Our actions are also created by Allah, because He gave us the ability and strength to do so ..

We get reward for choosing (to act by our will)

This is incase of good deeds

Allah's creation has no discrepancies.

Who has created the seven heavens one above another, you can see no fault in the creations of the Most Beneficent. Then look again: "Can you see any rifts?"

(Al-Mulk 67:3)

Allah (SWT) challenges the atheists.

Then look again and yet again, your sight will return to you in a state of humiliation and worn out.

(Al-Mulk 67:4)

Allah (SWT) says He created everything and gave it due proportion.

Nothing is too small and nothing is too big, its proportion.

A person with abnormal body part can be fixed through plastic surgery. Some say that you are changing Allah's creation but we say we are beautifying Allah's beauty.

If a child has ears that stick out which is abnormal, you can do plastic surgery to correct this because the child will be bullied at school.

Man is the most perfect of Allah's creation.

Verily, We created man of the best stature (mould),

(At-Tin 95:4)

After Allah (SWT) gave you the most beautiful shape, Allah (SWT) honoured the bani Adam.

And indeed We have honoured the Children of Adam, and We have carried them on land and sea, and have provided them with At-Taiyibat (lawful good things), and have preferred them above many of those whom We have created with a marked preference.

(Al-Isra 17:70)

One shouldn't say the monkey is ugly, because you are comparing the monkey to man.

Monkeys are beautiful in their own monkey community

You are not allowed to call Allah’s creation ugly.

You can’t use Qiyas, Ahmad ibn Hanbal said most mistakes are made with wrong/dodgy QIYAS (analogy)

This is why the dhahiriyyah madhab do not believe in qiyas. they are literalists ..

Not going down that road now.

والذي قدر فهدى

And Who has measured (preordainments for each and everything even to be blessed or wretched); then guided (i.e. showed mankind the right as well as wrong paths, and guided the animals to pasture);

(Al-A'la 87:3)

Allah (SWT) shows you the two highways - one takes you to the paradise and the other takes you to the hellfire

Abdullah ibn Amr (RA) reported having heard from Allah’s Messenger (SAW) who said, “Allah decreed the destinies before He created the heavens and earth by fifty thousand years.”

[Tirmidhi 2163, Ahmed 6590, Muslim 2653]

Allah (SWT) created the pen first.

Narrated by Ibn Abbas who related “The first thing which Allah created was the Pen, and He said to it, ‘Write.’ It responded, ‘What should I write?’ He said, ‘Write everything that will occur until the Day of Resurrection.’

(Abu Dawood 4700)

To write everything between now and the day of judgement

Everything is predestined and Qadr has 4 pillars

1. ILM

Ilm is Allah's perfect knowledge of past, present and future

Kitaaba is documentation

Allah (SWT) willed the thing to happen

Khalq - Allah (SWT) created your actions ether it be good or bad

Verily, We have created all things with Qadar (Divine Preordainments of all things before their creation, as written in the Book of Decrees Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz).

(Al-Qamar 54:49)

وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ
And Who has measured (preordainments for each and everything even to be blessed or wretched); then guided (i.e. showed mankind the right as well as wrong paths, and guided the animals to pasture);

(Al-A'la 87:3)

Allah (SWT) is telling you that He creates and guides.

Allah (SWT) did not leave man in limbo.

And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "Verily, I am going to place (mankind) generations after generations on earth." They said: "Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood, - while we glorify You with praises and thanks (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners) and sanctify You." He (Allah) said: "I know that which you do not know."

(Al-Baqarah 2:30)

In the above ayah, the angels say to Allah (SWT) that there is a cause for concern

The tafsir of the "I know that which you do not know." (2:30)

above ayah is that He creates and guides.

Allah (SWT) will show you the two highways and one that leads to paradise and one that leads to hell fire.  And let him make his own choice.

Some will shed blood but all will not be evil.

Some will be Siddiqun (truthful ones), Ulama like imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Imam Malik, Imam Shafi etc

One scholar from the ummah of Muhammad (SAW) has more followers than Musa (AS).

Abu Hanifa alone has more followers than prophet Musa (AS).

We have at least 500 million Hanafies in the world. Places like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

If man hangs on to kufr, he has no one to blame but himself

Imam Malik (RA) has more followers than David (AS)

Abu Hanifa (RA) has more followers than Musa (AS)

That is how powerful the ummah of Muhammad is.  Even prophet Musa (AS) wanted to be part of the ummah but his dua was not answered. Jesus (AS) asked to be part of the ummah and his dua was answered.

Only Allah (SWT) can guide.

The three messengers that were sent in Turkey said, surah 36:17.

"And our duty is only to convey plainly (the Message)."

(Ya-Sin 36:17)

When the Prophet (saws) saw his uncle die as a kafir, he was devastated. Allah (SWT) revealed the 28:56.

Verily! You (O Muhammad SAW) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided.

(Al-Qasas 28:56)

There are two types go guidance

Tawfeeq and Irshaad

Tawfeeq is from Allah (SWT) and no one else but Allah (SWT).

And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad SAW) Ruhan (an Inspiration, and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qur'an) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path (i.e. Allah's religion of Islamic Monotheism).

(Ash-Shura 42:52)

Irshaad is when a man guides another man to Islam by teaching him the right akhida

The above mentioned ayah is talking about irshaad

Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) guiding people to Islam

This one verse is in a book on itself

"Nothing could change the Qadar except Du`a’."

(Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 5, Hadith no. 277; Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Vol. 3, Hadith no. 139)

That is how powerful the dua of a Muslim is.

وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخۡرَجَ ٱلۡمَرۡعَىٰ

And Who brings out the pasturage, (Al-A'la 87:4)

فَجَعَلَهُ ۥ غُثَآءً أَحۡوَىٰ

And then makes it dark stubble. (Al-A'la 87:5)

Allah (SWT) is talking about the four seasons of the year in the above ayahs

Without the pasturage man and animals will die.

The rain brings the pasturage

Not paying zakah causes the rain to stop.

 سَنُقۡرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ
We shall make you to recite (the Qur'an), so you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) shall not forget (it),

(Al-A'la 87:6)

The ayah means we shall make you recite the Quran from the angel Jibreal.

The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) could neither read nor write so he recited the Quran when the angel Jibreal came with it.

إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ
Except what Allah, may will, He knows what is apparent and what is hidden.

(Al-A'la 87:7)

The Prophet (saws) use to recite the Quran with zeal because he feared he would forget the Quran

This ayah is similar to 20:114

Then High above all be Allah, the True King. And be not in haste (O Muhammad SAW) with the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say: "My Lord! Increase me in knowledge."

(Ta-Ha 20:114)

Allah (SWT) made the Prophet (saws) recite the Quran so he would not forget

Move not your tongue concerning (the Qur'an, O Muhammad SAW) to make haste therewith. It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad SAW) the ability to recite it (the Qur'an)And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)], then follow you its (the Qur'an's) recital. Then it is for Us (Allah) to make it clear to you,

(Al-Qiyamah 75:16-19)

These verses came down to correct the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) concerning Adab - Talib al ayn.

Angel Jibreal was the sheikh of the prophet (SAW). Only Allah doesn’t have a sheikh.

Who taught the prophet how to pray properly, it was angel Jibreal; who taught the prophet how to recite the quran properly, it was angel Jibreal.

Everyone has a sheikh.

Allah (SWT) made the Prophet (saws) recite the Quran so he would not forget except what Allah wills

If the Prophet (saws) forgot some surahs or ayahs you should not worry about that because Allah replaced it with something better.

Whatever a Verse (revelation) do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring a better one or similar to it. Know you not that Allah is able to do all things?

(Al-Baqarah 2:106)

Some say there is no abrogation in the Quran.

This is the verse we use to refute those people who say that no abrogation took place in the holy Quran.

Allah (SWT) says in the verse that he knows what is revealed and concealed.

Except what Allah, may will, He knows what is apparent and what is hidden. (Al-A'la 87:7)

This ayah is similar to 6:59

And with Him are the keys of the Ghaib (all that is hidden), none knows them but He. And He knows whatever there is in (or on) the earth and in the sea; not a leaf falls, but he knows it. There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a Clear Record.

(Al-An'am 6:59)

This ayah is talking about Allah's knowledge - it has no limits

Allah’s knowledge is infinite.

Mankind's knowledge is limited.

وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
And We shall make easy for you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) the easy way (i.e. the doing of righteous deeds).

(Al-A'la 87:8)

Whenever Allah (SWT) loves you he gives you correct understanding of the deen making it easy for you to implement the deen.

If Allah desires good for someone He bestows on him understanding of the deen

(Sahih Al Bukhari: Vol 9, Book 92 Hadith 415)

 فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَىٰ
Therefore remind (men) in case the reminder profits (them).

(Al-A'la 87:9)

The above ayah is saying you should only give dawah to people who show interest in the dawah.

Giving dawa to someone who has no interest you are disrespecting yourself.

You are throwing away silver and gold to the swine, you’re  wasting your time and they are not worth a dime.

You are wasting your time

سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ
The reminder will be received by him who fears (Allah),

(Al-A'la 87:10)

Do not give dawah with fiqh, they will run away from Islam

Give people dawah with Tawheed.

Begin dawah with Tawheed. This is the sunnah of the prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

Teach people surah Ikhlas, tell them who Allah Ta’ala is.

Giving people dawah by telling them everything is haram will run them away. They are addicted to these things.

Teach the people Tawheed - they do not know who their lord is

 وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى
But it will be avoided by the wretched,

(Al-A'la 87:11)

The wretched means those who are addicted to their evil and corrupted desires.

They shun the dawah.

They believe they cannot become a Muslim because they are up to their neck in the dunya.

Allah (SWT) spoke about people who are addicted to their evil desires in surah 45:23.

Have you seen him who takes his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (god), and Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you not then remember?

(Al-Jathiyah 45:23)

Allah (SWT) spoke about them again in surah 79:37-39.

Then, for him who Tagha (transgressed all bounds, in disbelief, oppression and evil deeds of disobedience to Allah). And preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts) Verily, his abode will be Hell-fire

(An-Nazi'at 79:37-39)

فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَىٰ

So remind, if the reminder should benefit;

(Al-A'la 87:9)

The Arabic "in" means "if" in English

Allah (SWT) put a condition on your dawah that is that it should benefit the person you are delivering it to

You can only give Dawah only to a person who appreciates the Dawah

You are not allowed to give Dawah to just anybody; because your message of Islam is precious.

If you give it to a person who is rebellious to the message you are throwing away silver and gold to the swine, you are wasting your time, and this person isn't worth a dime.

You are not allowed to give the dawah to a person who is rebellious to the Haqq, but to one who submits to the Haqq.

سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ
The reminder will be received by him, who fears (Allah),

(Al-A'la 87:10)

Whenever a person fears Allah (SWT) they will take heed to the reminder; if they don't they will not take heed to the message.

And remind (by preaching the Qur'an, O Muhammad SAW) for verily, the reminding profits the believers.

(Adh-Dhariyat 51:55)

It's the believers who benefit from the reminder, not the munafiq, not Zindiq (Heretic).

The reminder will be received by him who fears Allah (SWT).

Surah 51:55 is similar to surah 87:10.

The Quran resembles the Quran, the Quran did not checkmate the Quran (did not contradict).

The reminder will be received by him, who fears (Allah),

(Al-A'la 87:10)

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى
But it will be avoided by the wretched,

(Al-A'la 87:11)

The wretched is the one who worships his evil and corrupted desires instead of worshipping Allah (SWT).

Allah (SWT) spoke about him in surah 45:23.

The wretched is the one who is proud and arrogant and rebellious to the Haqq.

He hates what Allah (SWT) has revealed because it goes against his evil and corrupted desires.

Examples of the wretched: Nimrod, Pharaoh, Abu Lahab and Abu Jahal.

الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَىٰ

Who will enter the great Fire and made to taste its burning,

(Al-A'la 87:12)

The blazing fire is 70 times hotter than the fire you use to cook.

Allah (SWT) refers to the fire as Nar al Kubra (the great fire).

The wretched will regret not following the Haq when he was living in the Dunya on day of judgement.

Evidence of the wretched regretting not following the haqq is 67:8-11.

It almost bursts up with fury. Every time a group is cast therein, its keeper will ask: "Did no warner come to you?" They will say: "Yes indeed; a warner did come to us, but we belied him and said: 'Allah never sent down anything (of revelation), you are only in great error.'And they will say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!" Then they will confess their sin. So, away with the dwellers of the blazing Fire.

(Al-Mulk 67:8-11)

Because judgement day is a day of grief and regret (Yawm al Khasra)

Yawm al Hasra (the day of grief and regret)

Only the wretched will go to the Hellfire

Allah (SWT) will make it easy for us to enter paradise on day of judgement, because Allah (SWT) said his mercy prevails over his wrath.

On the authority of Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: My mercy prevails over my wrath.

{It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah)}

ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
Wherein he will neither die (to be in rest) nor live (a good living).

(Al-A'la 87:13)

He will neither die so that he can take a rest from punishment, neither will he live a good life.

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ

Indeed, whosoever purifies himself (by avoiding polytheism and accepting Islamic Monotheism) shall achieve success,

(Al-A'la 87:14)

In order to achieve success, we need to purify ourselves from eight things:

Heresy is to make up your own religion. Which is called hislam not Islam.

Hislam means his own version of Islam.

To doubt your faith.

You are not sure Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was a prophet.

You are not sure the quran was revealed by Allah (SWT).

You are not sure whether judgement day is a reality or a fantasy.

If you doubt these things you are a kafir because one of the seven conditions of the Shahada is Yaqeen (certainty).

if you doubt your faith, you become a Kafir

You purify yourself from apostasy by returning to Islam sincerely.

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ

Indeed whosoever purifies himself (by avoiding polytheism and accepting Islamic Monotheism) shall achieve success,

(Al-A'la 87:14)

Many scholars use this Ayah to say you should pay your Zakah.

The above-mentioned ayah

وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ

And remembers (glorifies) the Name of his Lord (worships none but Allah), and prays (five compulsory prayers and Nawafil additional prayers).

(Al-A'la 87:15)

The name of his Lord is Allah (SWT)

not "God", "Jehova", or "Yaweh"

And when a person translates the Quran from Arabic to English they should keep the Name Allah (SWT).

The English word God can be corrupted.

The name Allah (SWT) is impossible to corrupt because it is a holy name.

The above verse also means you should engage in Dhikr abundantly.

It is only by the Dhikr of Allah (SWT) that you can find tranquillity in your heart.

Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.

(Ra'd 13:28)

Even in paradise there is dhikr. The dhikr of paradise is Subhanallah Wal Hamdulillah Wa La illaha illa Allah.

The above mentioned ayah also means you should perform four types of Salah

1) The first is Fard al Ayn

Example: Five daily prayers like Salat ul Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha.

The two Eids are fard al ayn, according to Abu Hanifa and Ibn Taymiyyah.

This is the correct opinion.

2) Fard Kifaaya

Examples: like the Salah for rain, Salatul Janaza

3) Sunnah Mu'akkada

The Nawafil prayers

The two sunnah before fajr is called Sunnah Mu'akkada.

The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) never left these two rakahs before fajr even when he was travelling.

The two rakahs to Tahiyat Al masjid (to greet the masjid), is sunnah mu'akkada.

Witr is sunnah Mu’akkada.

4) Sunnah ghair Mu'akkada

This means a salah, which is not strongly emphasized. When you do these salah it is optional.

For example, the sunnah before Asr and the sunnah before Maghrib

The Hanafies don’t pray two rakahs before Maghrib, it’s the Hanbalis who pray it.

These are ghair mu'akkada

The Hanafis don't pray these

If you leave off sunnah ghair mu'akkada no one is allowed to rebuke you because ghair mu'akkada means it is not strongly emphasized.

بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
Nay, you prefer the life of this world;

(Al-A'la 87:16)

The majority prefer the life of this world to the extent that the majority will never believe.

Allah (SWT) told the prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in surah 12:103.

And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly.

(Yusuf 12:103)

even though you are filled with zeal and enthusiasm the majority will never believe, because they prefer the life of this world over the hereafter.

The reason why the majority prefer this world is because man by nature is impatient.

The prayer that man should make for good, he maketh for evil; for man is given to hasty (deeds).

(Al-Isra 17:11) YUSUF ALI

If man wants something he wants it now.

Our computers, trains are made faster and faster, because man by nature is impatient because of this he prefers the life of this world over the hereafter.

The above-mentioned ayah tells us that man by nature is impatient

we cut your keys, fix your computer, etc. while you wait.

They want you to fix it on the spot while you wait.

Man wants to enjoy the women of the dunya because he is not sure he will go to paradise.
So he says “I want to enjoy the women now”,

Man says “I want the 72 virgins of the dunya now, paradise can wait”

He says “I want to enjoy the wine of the dunya now”, what if I don’t make it to paradise?

"What if I don't make it to paradise, I want to enjoy the wine of the dunya now" that is the mentality of man.

"I am not going to give up the certain for the uncertain"

Allah (SWT) spoke about the dunya in surah 6:32.

And the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement. But far better is the house in the Hereafter for those who are AlMuttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2). Will you not then understand?

(Al-An'am 6:32)

You are chasing after the women of dunya. The women of the dunya menstruate; the women of paradise neither urinate nor defecate.

The women of the hereafter are better.

Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers, evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers, good-doers), whereas the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment.

(Al-Hadid 57:20)

And when they see some merchandise or some amusement [beating of Tambur (drum) etc.] they disperse headlong to it, and leave you (Muhammad SAW) standing [while delivering Jumu'ah's religious talk (Khutbah)]. Say "That which Allah has is better than any amusement or merchandise! And Allah is the Best of providers."

(Al-Jumu'ah 62:11)

Why did Allah (SWT) reveal surah Al-Juma’ah 62:11?

A caravan came from Syria and they were beating the drums.

The caravan had nice clothes and perfumes

The prophet (PBUH) was delivering a khutba

When they announced the caravan arrived they dashed out, and only 12 men remained in the masjid to listen to the khutba of the prophet.

The others dashed out of the masjid to go and look at the caravan.

How can the prophet deliver a speech and you sat and listened, when the caravan came you dashed out.

When you deliver a khutba, scholars say this ayah is hujjah, that the imam delivering it should stand up as he delivers the khutba.

Why they dashed out from masjid, because it is your natural instinct to love the dunya.

Allah (SWT) told you “Don't forget the dunya”, what Islam teaches is to be balanced with the love of deen and dunya.

Don't allow your love for the dunya to leave the deen and don't allow your love for the deen to prevent you from working and feeding your family.

The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you,

(At-Takathur 102:1)

Don't forget your portion of halal enjoyment of the dunya, you should have fun.

Allah (SWT) told you to have fun in surah 28:77.

But seek, with that (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allah has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily, Allah likes not the Mufsidun (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupts).

(Al-Qasas 28:77)

Don't get the impression that Islam is boring, Islam is not boring.

It is insanity for us to prefer the life of this world over the hereafter because the life of this world is temporary while the hereafter is everlasting.

It’s only atheists and the heretics who prefer the life of this world over the hereafter

Because they don't believe in the hereafter, they think it’s a myth,

It’s not a reality it’s just a fantasy.

That is their ideology so they chase after the dunya at the expense of the hereafter.

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ

Verily! This is in the former Scriptures,

(Al-A'la 87:18)

صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ

The Scriptures of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Musa (Moses).

(Al-A'la 87:19)

This ayah proves that history repeats itself.

That the human nature never changes.

Because it is written in the scriptures of Musa and Ibrahim (AS) that man will chase after the dunya at the expense of the hereafter.

And it’s written in the scriptures of Abraham and Musa (AS) that the Dunya is temporary but the hereafter is everlasting.

There are 3 reasons why history repeats itself.

Then, can they expect anything (else), but the Sunnah (way of dealing) of the peoples of old? So no change will you find in Allah's Sunnah (way of dealing), and no turning off will you find in Allah's Sunnah (way of dealing).

(Fatir 35:43)

No change no turn off (tabdil, tahwil)

So set you (O Muhammad SAW) your face towards the religion of pure Islamic Monotheism Hanifa (worship none but Allah Alone) Allah's Fitrah (i.e. Allah's Islamic Monotheism), with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in Khalqillah (i.e. the Religion of Allah Islamic Monotheism), that is the straight religion, but most of men know not. [Tafsir At Tabari, Vol 21, Page 41]

(Ar-Rum 30:30)

Psychology, Psychiatry,Sociology  you can use theories that existed 1000 years ago today; because the human nature doesn't change.

Allah (SWT) told us the stories of all the previous prophets because the human nature doesn't change.

Human nature cannot change.

All the human desires that existed yesterday are here today.

Did I not ordain for you, O Children of Adam, that you should not worship Shaitan (Satan). Verily, he is a plain enemy to you. And that you should worship Me [Alone Islamic
Monotheism, and set up not rivals, associate-gods with Me]. That is a Straight Path.
And indeed he (Satan) did lead astray a great multitude of you. Did you not, then, understand?

(Ya-Sin 36:60-62)
