TAFSIR SURAH AL JINN

ONLY ALLAH KNOWS THE GHAIB (UNSEEN}

MARCH 09 2014 / 08 JUM AL AWWAL 1435 HIJRI

BY SHAIKH ABDULLAH AL FAISAL

Noted Taken By @Nzinghak

Edited By Abu Hafiza

We are explaining Ayah 22 of Surah Jinn

AYAH 22

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "None can protect me from Allâh's punishment (if I were to disobey Him), nor should I find refuge except in Him.

(Al-Jinn 72:22)

Allah (SWT) is saying some men use protection of jinn protection

And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the masculine among the jinns, but they (jinns) increased them (mankind) in sin and disbelief.

(Al-Jinn 72:6)

Allah (SWT) says some people that go to the jinn for shelter, refuge and protection.

Here Allah (SWT) is saying the only protection shelter and refuge is with Allah (SWT) not the jinn

Because to have Jinn working for you was exclusive only to Prophet Sulaiman (AS)

Sulaiman's (AS) dua for a kingdom was answered

He said: "My Lord! Forgive me, and bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me: Verily, You are the Bestower."So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed,

(Sad 38:35-36)

The wind was subjected to Sulaiman (AS)

And also the Shayatin (devils) from the jinns (including) every kind of builder and diver, And also others bound in fetters [Saying of Allah to Sulaiman (Solomon)]: "This is Our gift, so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked."

 (Sad 38:37-39)

It is inappropriate for us to subdue the jinn and have them work for us or go to them for refuge

To subdue the jinn is exclusive to Suleiman (AS); nobody else

There are three types of jinn.

Narration By Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani said: “The Messenger of Allaah  May Allah's peace and blessings be on him said: ‘The jinn are of three types: a types that has wings, and they fly through the air; a type that looks like snakes and dogs; and a type that stops for a rest then resumes its journey.

{Reported by al-Tahhaawi in Mushkil al-Athaar, 4/95, and by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, 22/214  [Shaykh al-Albaani said in al-Mishkaat (2/1206, no. 414 : al-Tahhaawi and Abu’l-Shaykh reported it with a saheeh isnaad}

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also says cover your utensils

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah  May Allah be pleased with him The Prophet  May Allah's peace and blessings be on him said, "Cover your utensils and tie your water skins, and close your doors and keep your children close to you at night, as the Jinns spread out at such time and snatch things away. When you go to bed, put out your lights, for the mischief-doer (i.e. the rat) may drag away the wick of the candle and burn the dwellers of the house." Ata said, "The devils." (instead of the Jinns)

{Sahih Bukhari vol: 4: book 54 Hadith 533}

The shaitan gets loose at Maghrib time so bring your children in.

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib said on the pulpit in the mosque of Kufah: When Friday comes, the devils go to the markets with their flags, and involve people in their needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer.

{Abu Dawood 1046}

We act upon this hadith by making this dua before we enter the toilet

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib Allah's Messenger  May Allah's peace and blessings be on him said: The screen between the eyes of Jinn and the private parts of the sons of Adam as one of them enters the privy is that he should say: Bismilah In the name of Allah.

[This hadith has been transmitted by Tirmidhi 358 and he said: It is a gharib hadith and its isnad is not sound.]

The shaitaan plants his flags on Friday in the market place

Ali said on the pulpit in the mosque of Kufah: When Friday comes, the devils go to the markets with their flags, and involve people in their needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer.  Abu Dawood 1046, Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib

Adam as one of them enters the privy is that he should say: In the name of Allah. [This hadith has been transmitted by Tirmidhi 358 and he said: It is a gharib hadith and its isnad is not sound.]

The worst place is the market place because the shaitaan uses it to take people away from the dhikr Allah (rememberance of Allah (SWT))

The Rasul (S.A.W) used surah al-Falaq and an-Nas to seek protection against the Jinn and the evil eye

Allah (SWT) says in the Quran that the Shaitan likes to look at the private parts of humans

Narrated Abu Sa'id al-Khudri the Prophet May Allah's peace and blessings be on him used to seek protection against the Jinn and the evil eye till surahs al-Falaq and an-Nas were revealed. After they were revealed, he stuck to them and discarded everything beside them.

[Transmitted by Tirmidhi 1019]

The Rasul (S.A.W) said when you answer the call of nature, donot make istinja with bones because the bones belong to the Jinns. It is food for your brothers the Jinn.

Allah's Messenger May Allah's peace and blessings be on him said: Don't cleanse yourself with dung or with bones for that is the food of your brothers from amongst the Jinn

[Transmitted by Tirmidhi, #350 Nasa’i with this exception that he did not make mention of The Food of your brothers from amongst the jinn]

The Rasul (S.A.W) used to recite surah Rahman for the Jinn.  ‘Which of the favours of you Lord will you deny’ The Jinn said ‘Never will we deny the favours of our Lord’

Muhammad bin Al Munkadir narrated that: Jabir [may Allah be pleased with him] said: “The Messenger of Allah came out to his Companions, and recited Surat Ar-Rahman from its beginning to its end for them, and they were silent. So he said: ‘I recited it to the Jinns on the ‘Night of the Jinns,’ and they had a better response to it than you did. Each time I came to Allah’s saying: ‘Which of your Lords favor do you deny.’ They said: “We do not deny any of Your favors our Lord! And Yours is praise.” [Tirmidhi]

When the Rasul (S.A.W) used to recite surah Rahman for the Jinns they used to cram the environment

The jinn used to climb on each other to hear the recitation of the Rasul (S.A.W).

The jinn were zealous about the knowledge the Rasul (S.A.W) brought them

AYAH 23
"(Mine is) but conveyance (of the truth) from Allâh and His Messages (of Islâmic Monotheism), and whosoever disobeys Allâh and His Messenger, then verily, for him is the Fire of Hell, he shall dwell therein forever."

(Al-Jinn 72:23)

Allah (SWT) mentions disobedience to Allah (SWT) and his Messenger (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

When you obey the prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), you obey Allah (SWT)

When you disobey the prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), you disobey Allah (SWT)

He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad SAW), has indeed obeyed Allah, but he who turns away, then we have not sent you (O Muhammad SAW) as a watcher over them.

(An-Nisa 4:80)

When you disobey the Rasul (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) you disobey Allah (SWT)

There is no difference between obedience to the Rasul (saws) and obedience to Allah (SWT)

AYAH 24

Till, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who it is that is weaker concerning helpers and less important concerning numbers.

(Al-Jinn 72:24)

That which they are promised in the above ayah is the hell fire.

Ilm Yaqeen means: certain knowledge.

And you aquire ilm yaqeen when you see it displaying with your own eyes.

If a person trustworthy tells you something, it is ilm because the person is trustworthy.

A pious Muslim has no need to lie.

Example; If a trustworthy person calls you when you are on holiday and says your house has burnt down and then you return home and see this with your own eyes. This knowledge is called ilm yaqeen.

Allah (SWT) spoke about seeing that which you are promised with your eyes with certainty in 102:6-7

Verily, You shall see the blazing Fire (Hell)! And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight!

(At-Takathur 102:6-7)

Abraham (AS) asked Allah (SWT) to show him how to bring the dead back to life

Abraham wanted yaqeen so he asked Allah (SWT) for it.

Yaqeen brings contentment to the heart, Allah (SWT) showed Abraham with the birds

And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Qur'an is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith.

(Al-Muddaththir 74:31)

Allah (SWT) made mention of numbers in this Ayah 24 because the keepers of the hell fire are 19 angels

19 because it is a fitna for the kuffar

In order that the people could believe with certainty

Allah (SWT) says who is more important regarding numbers

AYAH 25

Say (O Muhammad SAW) : "I know not whether (the punishment) which you are promised is near or whether my Lord will appoint for it a distant term.

(Al-Jinn 72:25)

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was commanded to say you don't know when judgement day is.

Even prophet Jesus (AS) was asked when judgment day was

Muslims use this bible verse to check mate the Christians

But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

(Matthew 24:36) King James Version

Only Allah (SWT) is the Lord of the worlds

If Jesus (as) is God how come he doesn't know when judgement day is

AYAH 26

"(He Alone) the All-Knower of the Ghâ'ib (unseen), and He reveals to none His Ghâ'ib (unseen)."

(Al-Jinn 72:26)

AYAH 27

Except to a Messenger (from mankind) whom He has chosen (He informs him of unseen as much as He likes), and then He makes a band of watching guards (angels) to march before him and behind him.

(Al-Jinn 72:27)

Only Allah (SWT) knows the ghaib and He alone knows the unseen

Example of some of the predictions of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)

1. WHEN THE ANGELS CAME TO HIM AND SAID THE ARABS WILL BECOME RICH AND WILL COMPETE IN CONSTRUCTING LOFTY BUILDINGS

And when is the Hour?” He said, “The one who is questioned does not know more about it than the one who asks.” He asked, “Then what are its Signs?” He said, “That a maid-servant will beget her mistress and that you see barefooted, naked-bodied, helpless shepherds construct tall buildings.”

[Bukhari 47, Muslim 4, Tirmidhi 2619, Abu Dawud 4695, Nisai 5005,Ibn Majah 63, Ahmed 184]

2. A SLAVE WILL GIVE BIRTH TO HER MISTRESS

That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master.

[Muslim]

This means there will be a total breakdown and parent child relationship

Parents in the US can divorce the parents

3. THE PROPHET TOLD AMIR IBN YASSIR THAT HE WILL BE KILLED BY A REBELLIOUS GROUP

Umm Salamah (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “The transgressing party will kill 'Ammar"

[Sahih Muslim (4/2236) No. 2916]

4. THE PROPHET (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) TOLD HIS WIFES THAT THE ONE WITH THE LONGEST HANDS WOULD BE THE FIRST TO JOIN HIM IN PARADISE

Narrated 'Aisha: Some of the wives of the Prophet (SAW) asked him, "Who amongst us will be the first to follow you (i.e. die after you)?" He said, "Whoever has the longest hand." So they started measuring their hands with a stick and Sauda's hand turned out to be the longest. (When Zainab bint Jahsh died first of all in the caliphate of 'Umar), we came to know that the long hand was a symbol of practicing charity, so she was the first to follow the Prophet (SAW) and she used to love to practice charity. (Sauda died later in the caliphate of Muawiya).

[Al-Bukhari (1420) and Muslim (2452)]

The wife with the longest hands was the kindest wife.

Allah (SWT) said He alone has the knowledge of the ghaib.

When Zainab bind Jahsh died, a grief gripped the whole of Medina.

5. THE FIRST TO JOIN THE PROPHET (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) WOULD BE FATIMAH

Umm Salamah reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) called Fatimah (RA) in the year of the conquest and confided something to her. She wept. Then he conversed with her and she laughed. When Allah’s Messenger (RA) died, she asked her about her weeping and her laughing, she said, “Allah’s Messenger informed me that he would die, so I wept. Then, he told me that I was the chief of the women of paradise, with the exception of Maryam, daughter of Imran, so I laughed.

(Tirmidhi 3919)

6. ISLAMIC SCHOLARS WOULD DISAPPEAR

Narrated By Anas: Allah's Messenger said, "From among the portents of the Hour are (the following): 1. Religious knowledge will be taken away (by the death of Religious learned men).

[Al-Bukhari (80) and Muslim (2671)]

The first knowledge  law that disappeared was the Islamic law of inheritance.

Narrated Anas: I will narrate to you a Hadith and none other than I will tell you about after it. I heard Allah's Messenger ((Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)) saying: From among the portents of the Hour are (the following):

4. Women will increase in number and men will decrease in number so much so that one man will look after fifty women. [Bukhari]

7. PEOPLE WILL BELIEVE CON ARTIST

AYAH 27

Except to a Messenger (from mankind) whom He has chosen (He informs him of unseen as much as He likes), and then He makes a band of watching guards (angels) to march before him and behind him.

(Al-Jinn 72:27)

The purpose of sharing the knowledge with messengers is so people are convinced they are real messengers

No fake messengers

He shares knowledge of the unseen with Messengers

Knowledge of Ilm al Ghaib (Unseen)

Sometimes Allah (SWT) speaks to the Angels about what will happen next week, next year etc.

'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) said: One day the Messenger of Allah (SAW) mentioned Al-Masih Dajjal (the Antichrist) in the presence of the people and said, "Verily, Allah is not one-eyed but Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal is blind in the right eye which looks like a swollen grape."

[Al-Bukhari (7127) and Muslim (169)]

The jinn steal the secrets and give to fortunetellers

Narrated `Aisha: Some people asked Allah's Messenger () about the fore-tellers He said. ' They are nothing" They said, 'O Allah's Messenger ()! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true." Allah's Messenger () said, "A Jinn snatches that true word and pours it In to the ear of his friend (the fore-teller) (as one puts something into a bottle) The foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies."

{Sahih al-Bukhari 5762 & Bukhari Vol. 7, Book 71, Hadith 657}

For fortune tellers mix up truth with lies

Some jinn were destroyed by shooting stars as they tried to steal the secrets

And indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps, and We have made such lamps (as) missiles to drive away the Shayatin (devils), and have prepared for them the torment of the blazing Fire.

(Al-Mulk 67:5)

Soothsayers and palm readers listen to the jinn

Narrated `Aisha: Some people asked Allah's Messenger () about the fore-tellers He said. ' They are nothing" They said, 'O Allah's Messenger ()! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true." Allah's Messenger () said, "A Jinn snatches that true word and pours it into the ear of his friend (the fore-teller) (as one puts something into a bottle) the foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies."

{Sahih al-Bukhari Book 76 Hadith 5762 & Bukhari Vol. 7, Book 71, Hadith 657}

The jinn get their information from the knowledge of the heaven

AYAH 28

[He (Allâh) protects them (the Messengers)], till He sees that they (the Messengers) have conveyed the Messages of their Lord (Allâh). And He (Allâh) surrounds all that which is with them, and He (Allâh) keeps count of all things (i.e. He knows the exact number of everything).

(Al-Jinn 72:28)

O Messenger (Muhammad SAW)! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not conveyed His Message. Allah will protect you from mankind. Verily, Allah guides not the people who disbelieve.

(Al-Ma'idah 5:67)

This verse cause the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to say to his bodyguards that he did not need them anymore for protection

And We have put a barrier before them, and a barrier behind them, and We have covered them up, so that they cannot see.

(Ya-Sin 36:9)

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) recited this verse and his enemies could not see him. It protected him from the plot of the Quraish

Seven young men were planted outside the door of Muhammad (saws)

They planned to kill him by stabbing him

He sprinkled dust on their heads and recited 36:9

This ayah was use as a protection for the Rasool (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as him migrated from Mecca to Medina
