FIRST GATE: SALAH

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah Al Ankabut verse 45

and the remembering (praising, etc.) of (you by) Allah (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising, etc.) Allah in prayers, etc.]. And Allah knows what you do.

(Al-'Ankabut 29:45)

Salah is the best deed you can perform after reciting the testimony of faith

Salah is the legacy of all the prophets

Hadith: the salah is like a book situated outside your house.

Abu Huraira RadiyAllahu `anhu narrates that once the Prophet Sallallahu `alaihi wasallam asked his companions, 'Do you think that dirt can remain on a person bathing 5 times a day in a brook running in front of his door?' 'No', replied the companions, 'No dirt can remain on his body.' The Prophet Sallallahu `alaihi wasallam remarked: 'So, exactly similar is the effect of salat offered 5 times a day. With the Grace of Allah, it washes away all the sins'.

(Bukhari, Muslim)

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) saying, "Say, if there were a river at the door of one of you in which he takes a bath five times a day, would any soiling remain on him?'' They replied, "No soiling would left on him.'' He (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, '' That is the five (obligatory) Salat (prayers). Allah obliterates all sins as a result of performing them.''

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Hadith: the angels ask Allah (SWT) to forgive the person who sits in place of Salah, waiting to perform Salah

It is related from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The angels pray for every one of you as long as you remain in the place in which you prayed and do not break wudu', saying, 'O Allah, forgive him! O Allah, show mercy to him!'' Each of you is in the prayer as long as he is waiting for it and there is nothing but the prayer preventing him from going to his family."

(Muwatta, Book 9, Hadith 54)

Hadith: the one who goes to the Masjid to pray salah, he is in Salah until he returns home

‘Uqba Ibn ‘Amer -may Allah be pleased with him- said that the Prophet -prayers and peace of Allah be upon him- said: whoever purifies himself then comes to the Masjid for prayers, his registering angles will register ten good deeds for every step he takes to the Masjid, whoever sits in the Masjid awaiting prayers is considered in a state of qunut (ongoing worship), he is considered in a state of prayer from the moment he goes out of his house till he returns.”

[Authenticated by Al-Albani]

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah At Tawbah verse 11

But if they repent, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, then they are your brethren in religion. (In this way) We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for a people who know.

(At-Tawbah 9:11)

Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (RA) quoted Tawbah verse 11 as his Hujjah

Hadith: the difference between a Muslim and a kafir is in the salah

Ibn Taymiyah (RA) said the Kafir is the person who abandons Salah in its totality not the person who misses one or two Salat

This is the correct opinion in regards to Salah

Jabir reports that the Prophet (SAW) said, "Between a person and disbelief is discarding prayer."

(Related by Ahmad, Muslim, Abu Dawud, at-Tirmizhi and Ibn Majah.)

SECOND GATE: JIHAD

Jihad is to wage war against the Kuffar for the spread of La Ilaha Il Allah wa Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) Rasul Allah

Narrated By Abu Musa: A man came to the Prophet and asked, "A man fights for war booty; another fights for fame and a third fights for showing off; which of them fights in Allah's Cause?" The Prophet said, "He who fights that Allah's Word (i.e. Islam) should be superior, fights in Allah's Cause."

[Al-Bukhari (123) and Muslim (1904)]

If Muslims fight muslims, its fitna not Jihad

When Ali (RA) and Muawiyah (RA) fought, the scholars call it "The Fitna of Ali and Muawiyah"

If you fight for democracy its not jihad

The FSA in Syria are fighting for democracy, what they are doing is not Jihad, its suicide because they are not fighting for La Ilaha Ilea Allah (SWT)

Hadith: some fight for the fame, some fight for the sake of Allah (SWT)

Jihad (holy fighting in Allah's Cause) is ordained for you (Muslims) though you dislike it, and it may be that you dislike a thing, which is good for you and that you like a thing, which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.

(Al-Baqarah 2:216)

The reason why Allah (SWT) said Kuitab Alaikum al Qitaal is that it is impossible to put a spin on Qital

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah Al Anfal verse 39

And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do.

(Al-Anfal 8:39)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Al Anfal verse 60

And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know [but] whom Allah knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allah will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.

(Al-Anfal 8:60) Sahih international

We are commanded the Kuffar on the battlefield.

We were commanded by Allah (SWT) to terrorize the Kuffar on the battlefield not to plant bombs, on planes trains, buses, to kill innocents.

The Saudi Salafis claim the verse says to "threaten" this is a lie.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah Al Anfal verse 60

Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly.

(Al-Anfal 8:60) Yusuf Ali

And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know [but] whom Allah knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allah will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.

(Al-Anfal 8:60) Sahih international

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah At Tawbah verse 29

Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allah, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah[] with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

(At-Tawbah 9:29)

The Jizya is a form of humiliation, they feel subdued

Tawbah 5 is the verse of the sword

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah At Tawbah 5

Then when the Sacred Months (the Ist, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islamic calendar) have passed, then kill the Mushrikun (see V.2:105) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(At-Tawbah 9:5)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah Muhammad verse 4

So, when you meet (in fight Jihad in Allah's Cause), those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, i.e. take them as captives). Thereafter (is the time) either for generosity (i.e. free them without ransom), or ransom (according to what benefits Islam), until the war lays down its burden. Thus [you are ordered by Allah to continue in carrying out Jihad against the disbelievers till they embrace Islam (i.e. are saved from the punishment in the Hell-fire) or at least come under your protection], but if it had been Allah's Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight), in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost,

(Muhammad 47:4)

The Kuffar consider Surah Muhammad to be "politically incorrect"

The very thought of having their heads cut off is enough to cause terror in the Kuffar and they will runaway from Dar al Harb to Dar al Kufr, to seek political asylum.

The Kuffar consider Surah Tawbah and Surah Anfal to be "politically incorrect"

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah At Tawbah verse 73

O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.

(At-Tawbah 9:73) Sahih international

There are two types of hypocrisy major and minor.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah At Tawbah verse 38-39

O you who believe! What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to march forth in the Cause of Allah (i.e. Jihad) you cling heavily to the earth? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter. If you march not forth, He will punish you with a painful torment and will replace you by another people, and you cannot harm Him at all, and Allah is Able to do all things.

(At-Tawbah 9:38-39)

those who denied Zakah, their hypocrisy is major

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah At Tawbah verse 111

Verily, Allah has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties; for the price that theirs shall be the Paradise. They fight in Allah's Cause, so they kill (others) and are killed. It is a promise in truth which is binding on Him in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? Then rejoice in the bargain which you have concluded. That is the supreme success.

(At-Tawbah 9:111)

The hypocrites of Medina claimed that the above ayah was a fake promise they did not want to go for Jihad.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah Al Ahzab 12

And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease (of doubts) said: "Allah and His Messenger (SAW) promised us nothing but delusions!"

(Al-Ahzab 33:12)

SOME AHADITH ABOUT JIHAD:

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: One who died but did not fight in the way of Allah nor did he express any desire (or determination) for Jihad died the death of a hypocrite.

[Sahih Muslim, Book 20, Hadith 4696]

it has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger Allah (SAW) said: A disbeliever and a believer who killed him will never be gathered together in Hell.

[Sahih Muslim, Book 20, Hadith #4661]

We have to put the hadith into contact.

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was talking about the battlefield.

it doesn't mean we go killing our Kafir neighbours.

“If you deal in usury (riba) and hang onto the tails of cows, being satisfied with cultivation and ceasing to take part in Jihad, Allah will inflict a humiliation upon you which will not be removed until you return to your religion.”

[Reported by Ahmad and Abu Dawud and graded as authentic by Al-Qattan. Al-Hafiz states in Al-Bulugh that the chain of narrators is trustworthy and reliable]

"Return to your religion" means to return to jihad, jihad is the sixth pillar of Islam.

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira who said: Allah has undertaken to provide for one who leaves his home (only) to fight for His cause and to affirm the truth of His word; Allah will either admit him to Paradise or will bring him back home from where he had come out, with his reward and booty.

(Sahih Muslim, 20:4628)

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Allah guarantees that he who goes out to fight in His way believing in Him and affirming the truth of His Messenger, will either be admitted to Jannah or will be brought back to his home (safely) from where he has set out, with whatever reward or share of booty he may have gained. By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, if a person is wounded in the way of Allah, he will come on the Day of Resurrection with his wound in the same condition as it was on the day when he received it; its colour will be the colour of blood but its smell will be the smell of musk

[Sahih Muslim (3/1495) No. 1876, Musnad Ahmad (2/231) No. 7157, Sunan Ibn Majah (4/51) No. 2753]

Hadith: the swords are the keys to paradise (Musnad Ahmad)

Narrated By Salim Abu An-Nadr: (The freed slave of 'Umar bin 'Ubaidullah) I was Umar's clerk. Once Abdullah bin Abi Aufa wrote a letter to 'Umar when he proceeded to Al-Haruriya. I read in it that Allah's Apostle in one of his military expeditions against the enemy, waited till the sun declined and then he got up amongst the people saying,

"O people! Do not wish to meet the enemy, and ask Allah for safety, but when you face the enemy, be patient, and remember that Paradise is under the shades of swords." Then he said, "O Allah, the Revealer of the Holy Book, and the Mover of the clouds and the Defeater of the clans, defeat them, and grant us victory over them."

[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 52, Hadith #266A]

Sahl bin Sa'd (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Observing Ribat (e.g., guarding the Islamic frontier for the sake of Allah) for a single day is far better than the world and all that it contains. A place in Jannah as small as the whip of your horse is far better than the world and all that it contains. An endeavour (fighting) in the Cause of Allah in the evening or in the morning is far better than the world and all that it contains."

[Al-Bukhari (2892) and Muslim (1881)]

"The Shaheed is granted seven special favours from Allah. He is forgiven (his sins) at the first drop of his blood. He sees his place in Paradise. He is dressed in the clothes of Iman. He is married to the Hoor al-`Ain (beautiful women of Paradise). He is saved from the punishment of the grave. He will be protected from the great fear of the Day of Judgement. A crown of honour will be placed on his head, one jewel of which is better than the whole world and what it contains. He is married to seventy-two of the Hoor al-`Ain (beautiful women of Paradise), and he will be able to intercede for seventy members of his family."

[Saheeh - Related by Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibbaan]

THIRD GATE: SADAQA (charity)

Sadaqa is translated as Charity.

It's different from Zakah.

Zakah you give once a year, when the wealth is one year old.

2.5% is the Nisab.

Sadaqa you give anytime, no specific time for Sadaqa and you are not allowed to give away more than a third of your wealth in Sadaqa.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah AL Baqarah verse 254 & 262

O you who believe! Spend of that with which We have provided for you, before a Day comes when there will be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession. And it is the disbelievers who are the Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).

(Al-Baqarah 2:254)

The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He pleases. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower. Those who spend their wealth in the Cause of Allah, and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

(Al-Baqarah 2:262)

You're not supposed to remind of your charity by doing so you lost your Baraka

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran surah Muhammad verse 7

O you who believe! If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm.

(Muhammad 47:7)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah AL Hadid verse 7

Believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and spend of that whereof He has made you trustees. And such of you as believe and spend (in Allah's Way), theirs will be a great reward.

(Al-Hadid 57:7)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Balad verse 12 -16

And what will make you know the path that is steep? (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.).

Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), To an orphan near of kin. (Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery.

(Al-Balad 90:12-16)

SOME HADITHS ABOUT CHARITY

1: Who ever gives charity equal to the size of a date, Allah (SWT) will equal that charity to the size of a mountain.

The Prophet (sall Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever gives away charity the size of a date, which is earned lawfully, since Allah only accepts the good lawful things, Allah will indeed take it with His right Hand and cause it to grow for its owner, just as one of you raises up his colt, to the point that the charity will become like the size of a mountain.” [

Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Narrated Abu Hurairah (r): Allah’s messenger  said, “Everyday two Angel descend and one of them says, Oh Allah! Compensate (more) to the person who gives (in charity) while the other one says, Oh Allah! Destroy the one who withholds (charity, etc)”

[Al Bukhari]

Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: "Indeed charity extinguishes the Lord's anger and it protects against the evil death."

[Sunan Tirmidhi (3/43) No. 664] (Daeef)

11 Hadith Qudsi

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH), who said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said: Spend (on charity), O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.

{It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim)}

Abu Huraira narrated the Prophet (SAW) said: “There are seven whom Allah will shade in His Shade on the Day when there is no shade except His Shade: a just ruler; a youth who grew up in the worship of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic; a man whose heart is attached to the mosques; two men who love each other for Allah's sake, meeting for that and parting upon that a man who is called by a woman of beauty and position [for illegal intercourse], but be says: 'I fear Allah', a man who gives in charity and hides it, such that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives in charity; and a man who remembered Allah in private and so his eyes shed tears.'

[Al-Bukhari (660) and Muslim (1031)]

- The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said the best dinar you spend is on your family or to spend it on your animal that you use.

Thawban reported that the Prophet (SAW), said, "The best dinar a man spends is the dinar which he spends on his family, the dinar which he spends on his companions in the Way of Allah, and the dinar which he spends on his riding animal in the Way of Allah." One of the transmitters, Abu Qilaba, said, He began with the family, Who has a greater reward that the man who spends on small children until such time that Allah Almighty makes them able to support themselves."

[Al-Adab al-Mufrad Al-Bukhari, #748]

- Allah (SWT) will say on the day of judgement that you did not feed him' you will ask how.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Verily, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, would say on the Day of Resurrection: O son of Adam, I was sick but you did not visit Me. He would say: O my Lord; how could I visit Thee whereas Thou art the Lord of the worlds? Thereupon He would say: Didn't you know that such and such servant of Mine was sick but you did not visit him and were you not aware of this that if you had visited him, you would have found Me by him? O son of Adam, I asked food from you but you did not feed Me. He would say: My Lord, how could I feed Thee whereas Thou art the Lord of the worlds? He said: Didn't you know that such and such servant of Mine asked food from you but you did not feed him, and were you not aware that if you had fed him you would have found him by My side? (The Lord would again say) O son of Adam, I asked drink from you but you did not provide Me. He would say: My Lord, how could I provide Thee whereas Thou art the Lord of the worlds? Thereupon He would say: Such and such of servant of Mine asked you for a drink but you did not provide him, and had you provided him drink you would have found him near Me.

[Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Hadith #6232]

4) THE GATE OF FASTING

- Fasting is to abstain from food and drink and relations with your wife during the day

- Fasting is for you to learn self restraint

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Baqarah verse 183

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2).

(Al-Baqarah 2:183)

- To seek Allah's (SWT) countenance.

- You learn Taqwah from fasting.

- Because your hands feat and eyes, ears, are fasting, you don't listen to backbiting.

- Those who listen to and backbite only get hunger from their fast.

- They do not get barakah.

Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so keen to fast any day and give it priority over any other than this day, the day of 'Ashura', and this month, meaning Ramadhan."

[Reported by al-Bukhari, 1867]

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As: Allah's Messenger () told me, "The most beloved prayer to Allah is that of David and the most beloved fasts to Allah are those of David. He used to sleep for half of the night and then pray for one third of the night and again sleep for its sixth part and used to fast on alternate days."

{Sahih al-Bukhari 1131 & Bukhari: Vol. 2, Book 21, Hadith 231}

Abu Huraira (RA) reported the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Allah the Exalted and Majestic said: 'Every act of the son of Adam is for him, except As-Siyam (the fasting) which is (exclusively) for Me, and I will reward him for it.' Fasting is a shield. When anyone of you is observing fast, he should neither indulge in obscene language nor should he raise his voice; and if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him, he should say: 'I am fasting.' By Him in Whose Hand the soul of Muhammad is, the breath of one observing Saum is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk. The one who fasts, experiences two joys: he feels pleasure when he breaks the fast. He is joyful by virtue of his fast when he meets his Rubb."

[Al-Bukhari (1904) and Muslim (1151)]

- the prophet said the khisaa of my ummah of my ummah is fasting

The Sahabah  continued to ask the Rasool ul-Allah (saw) about their actions, so as to know the hukm of Allah about them before they undertook them. Ibn al-Mubarak narrated from ‘Uthman bin Maz’oon came to the Prophet (saw) and said, “Do you permit me to be castrated?” The Prophet (saw) said: “No one of us (is allowed to) castrate or be castrated; and the castration of my ummah is fasting (siyam).”

{Reported by Ahmad (2/173) and Ibn Adee (2/111)}

- There are these three that Allah {SWT} will always answer the dua of:

Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger said, "Three prayers are surely answered: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveller, and the supplication of the father for his son."

[Sunan Tirmidhi (5/502) No. 3448, Sunan Ibn Majah (5/30) No. 3862, Musnad Ahmad (2/258 No. 7501, Sunan Abu Dawud (2/89) No. 1536]

'Abdullah ibn 'Amr reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), said: "The fast and the Qur'an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: 'O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him.' The Qur'an will say: 'I prevented him from sleeping at night. Let me intercede for him.' And their intercession will be accepted." “When the month or Ramadan arrives, go for ‘umrah, because `umrah in Ramadan is like accompanying me on Hajj.”

[Sahîh al-Bukhârî (1764)]

[Musnad Ahmad (2/174) No. 6626, Mustadrak al-Haakim (1/740) No. 2036, Shu'ab al-Eman al-Bayhaqi (3/378) No. 1839]

- Umrah in Ramadan is equal to one hajj

Abu Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven."

[Sahih Bukhari (1/16) No. 38]

THE EIGHT GATES OF PARADISE:
PART 2

APRIL 22 2014 / 23 JUMADA AL AKHIRAH 1435 HIJRI

Notes Taken By AT17

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, whatever you were diligent in, that gate will call you.

So if you were diligent in salah, you will be called by the gate of salah etc.

Whatever you were diligent in, you will be called by that gate.

Whosoever dies without performing Hajj while he is not under some difficult circumstances - whereby it's impossible to go for Hajj - or is not allowed to leave because of an unjust ruler, or is chronically sick - or seriously sick during the Hajj season - then let him die if he wants as a Jew or a Christian."

[Related by ad-Daarimi and al-Bayhaqi]

Ali (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “He who possess enough food for the trip, a means of transportation to reach to Makkah, and yet does not perform Hajj, then he dies, he would then die as a Jew or a Christian...”

[Sunan Tirmidhi (3/176) No. 812, Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Iman' (5/443) No. 3692, Musnad al-Bazzaar (3/87-88) No. 861]

A woman is allowed to go for jihad, but only if the ameer gives permission for her to go for jihad.

Narrated `Aisha: (the mother of the faithful believers) I said, "O Allah's Apostle! We consider Jihad as the best deed." The Prophet said, "The best Jihad (for women) is Hajj Mabrur."

[Sahih Bukhari (2/133) No. 1520]

On the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) was asked which deed is best. He said, “Belief in Allah and His Messenger.” He was asked, then what? He said, “Jihad for the sake of Allah.” He was asked, then what? He said, “An accepted Hajj.” [Narrated by al-Bukhari (26) and Muslim (83)]

GATE #6 - GATE OF EEMAN

This is for the people that were fervent in their faith. Eeman consists of three dimensions; it is the conviction of the heart, declaration of the tongue and implementation of the limbs.

WHAT ARE THE MANY VIRTUES OF EEMAN?

#1 IT SAVES YOU FROM BEING A LOST SOUL

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Asr

By Al-'Asr (the time). Verily! Man is in loss, (Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf) which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allah has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc.)

(Al-'Asr 103:1-3)

#2 EEMAN GIVES YOU IZZAH (HONOUR)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Imran verse 110

You [true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW and his Sunnah (legal ways, etc.)] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah. And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fasiqun (disobedient to Allah - and rebellious against Allah's Command).

(Aali Imran 3:110)

#3 EEMAN ENTITLES YOU TO THE INTERCESSION OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD

Narrated By Anas: The Prophet said, "Whoever said "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and has in his heart good (faith) equal to the weight of a barley grain will be taken out of Hell. And whoever said: "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and has in his heart good (faith) equal to the weight of a wheat grain will be taken out of Hell. And whoever said, "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and has in his heart good (faith) equal to the weight of an atom will be taken out of Hell."

[Al-Bukhari (44) and Muslim (193)]

Without any eeman, you will be condemned to the hellfire forever.

#4 EEMAN IS THE REASON FOR YOUR PIOUS DEEDS TO BE ACCEPTED

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Ma'idah verse 27

The former said: "Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2)."

(Al-Ma'idah 5:27)

The sacrifice of Abel was accepted. The sacrifice of Cain was rejected because Allah only accepts the good deeds of the pious people.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Az Zumar verse 65

And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad SAW), as it was to those (Allah's Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers."

(Az-Zumar 39:65)

In the above ayah, Allah (SWT) warns the prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) of shirks.

If the prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was warned about shirk what makes you think that the deeds of mother Teresa would be accept

Mother Teresa committed shirk, she believed in the trinity (god the father, son and holy spirit).

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah An Nur verse 39

As for those who disbelieve, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it to be water, until he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing, but he finds Allah with him, Who will pay him his due (Hell). And Allah is Swift in taking account.

(An-Nur 24:39)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Isra verse 19

And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it, with the necessary effort due for it (i.e. do righteous deeds of Allah's Obedience) while he is a believer (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded (by Allah).

(Al-Isra 17:19)

The above ayahs show that Allah will accept your pious deeds if you have eeman.

#5 EEMAN SAVES YOU FROM BECOMING THE LOWEST OF THE LOW

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah At Tin verse 4 to 6

Verily, We created man of the best stature (mould), (Then We reduced him to the lowest of the low, Save those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous deeds, then they shall have a reward without end (Paradise).

(At-Tin 95: 4-6)

#6 YOUR EEMAN CAUSE YOUR TAUBA TO BE ACCEPTED

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Furqan verse 70

Except those who repent and believe (in Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(Al-Furqan 25:70)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Az Zumar verse 53

Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(Az-Zumar 39:53)

#7 YOUR EEMAN PUTS YOU UNDER THE PROTECTION OF ALLAH

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Baqarah verse 257

Allah is the Wali (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. But as for those who disbelieve, their Auliya (supporters and helpers) are Taghut [false deities and false leaders, etc.], they bring them out from light into darkness. Those are the dwellers of the Fire, and they will abide therein forever.

(Al-Baqarah 2:257)

The above ayah shows that Allah is the protector of those who have eeman.

#8 YOUR EEMAN GIVES YOU A MAKHRAJ (ESCAPE) FROM DIFFICULTIES

Mahraj – a break through to get out of every difficultly

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah At Talaq Verse 2 - 3

And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine.

(At-Talaq 65:2-3)

#9 EEMAN GIVES YOU SELF-CONTENTMENT

Narrated By Abu Huraira (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said, "Riches does not mean, having a great amount of property, but riches is self-contentment."

[Al-Bukhari (6038) and Muslim (2287)]

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah TA HA verse 124 to 126

"But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur'an nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection." He will say:"O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind, while I had sight (before).

(Ta-Ha 20:124-125)

Allah) will say: "Like this, Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) came unto you, but you disregarded them (i.e. you left them, did not think deeply in them, and you turned away from them), and so this Day, you will be neglected (in the Hell-fire, away from Allah's Mercy)."

(Ta-Ha 20:126)

As a believer you are not allowed to look your age, you are supposed to look ten years younger than your age.

If you look your age something is wrong

Because your imaan is supposed to give you self-contentment

#10 YOUR EEMAN WILL PROVIDE LIGHT FOR YOU ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Hadid verse 12 to 13

On the Day you shall see the believing men and the believing women their light running forward before them and by their right hands. Glad tidings for you this Day! Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever! Truly, this is the great success! On the Day when the hypocrite's men and women will say to the believers: "Wait for us! Let us get something from your light!" It will be said: "Go back to your rear! Then seek a light!" So a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Inside it will be mercy, and outside it will be torment."

(Al-Hadid 57:12-13)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Mayam verse 71

There is not one of you but will pass over it (Hell); this is with your Lord; a Decree which must be accomplished.

(Maryam 19:71)

This bridge in the above ayah will be very dark, so your light of emaan will help guide you across it.

If you had no emaan, light will be taken away from you

And for those you used to go backward and forward with your Islam, today you are a Muslim and tomorrow you are a kafir then you come back and then leave again. When you are crossing the sirat Allah (SWT) will give you light and then Allah (SWT) will snatch away your light then Allah (SWT) will give you light and then Allah (SWT) will snatch away your light

How you treat Allah (SWT) in this world, Allah (SWT) will treat you the same on the day of judgement, so you need to remain steadfast on your deen and stop messing about.

#11 YOUR EEMAN WILL MAKE YOU THE RULERS OF THE LAND

If you have emaan, Allah (SWT) will give you khilafah and Shari'ah.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah An Nur verse 55

Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

(An-Nur 24:55)

GATE #7 - GATE FOR THOSE WHO CONTROL THEIR ANGER AND WHO PARDON PEOPLE FOR THEIR WEAKNESSES

DEFINITION OF ANGER

Anger is a strong feeling of rage and antagonism towards someone or something. Anger occurs because a person was provoked or something unpleasant was said or done to him, his family, his wealth, or his honour.

Therefore the angry person lashes out with rage and hostility.

Anger is of five types.

1. Sometimes it is fardh - if someone insults the prophet and you do not get angry for your deen you have no honour in your deen.

You are called a 'bagayrat' - someone with no honour.

If someone is trying to seduce your wife or your daughter that anger is fard.

Abdullah ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Three people will not enter paradise and Allah will not look to them on the Day of Judgment: the one who is disobedient to his parents, the woman who imitates men and the ad-Dayooth (cuckold, weak man who feels no jealousy over his womenfolk)..."

[Musnad Ahmad (2/134) No. 6180, Musnad al-Bazzar (12/270) No. 6051, al-Sunnan al-Kubra al-Nasa'i (2/63) No. 2354, al-Mu’jam al-Awsat al-Tabarani (3/51) No. 2443]

Someone who see's his family going astray and he feels no anger in his heart, he will never go paradise.

2. Sometimes anger can be mustahab.

3. Sometimes anger can be makruh.

Anger is makruh when you get angry for a small reason.

4. Sometimes anger can be haram

This is when you get angry for no valid reason.

5. Sometimes anger is halal

Anger is halal when you get angry for a valid reason. For e.g. you get angry when someone continues to break his promises, this is valid.

Allah (SWT) will give paradise to the person who had the right to be angry, for the right reasons and he chose to pardon the person.

Anger is a natural emotion like love, hate, joy, happiness etc.

Allah (SWT) talked about people who suppress their anger in surah 3:134

Those who spend [in Allah's Cause - deeds of charity, alms, etc.] in prosperity and in adversity, who repress anger, and who pardon men; verily, Allah loves Al-Muhsinun (the good doers).

(Aali Imran 3:134)

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying: "The strong-man is not one who wrestles well but the strong man is one who controls himself when he is in a fit of rage."

[Al-Bukhari (6114) and Muslim (2609)]

Sahl ibn Mu’adh ibn Anas from his father reported that the Prophet (SAW) said, “As for him who suppresses his anger while he is able to express (and impose) it, Allah will call him on the Day of Resurrection ahead of all the creatures and give him the choice of any of the maidens of paradise he likes.”

[Sunan Tirmidhi (4/656) No. 2493, Sunan Abu Dawud (4/248) No. 4777, Sunan Ibn Majah (5/280) No. 4186, Musnad Ahmad (3/440) No. 15675]

Atiyyah as-Sa'di reported the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when one of you becomes angry, he should perform ablution.

[Sunan Abu Dawud (4/249) No. 4784 and Musnad Ahmad (4/226) No. 18014]

Abu Dharr narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "If any of you becomes angry and he is standing, let him sit down, so his anger will go away; if it does not go away, let him lie down."

[Sunan Abu Dawud (4/249) No. 4782 and Musnad Ahmad (5/152) No. 21386]

Why the human devil will continue to provoke and wind you up? so that you react to the provocation and you play right into the hands of the human devil.

Do not say or do anything when you are angry.

Do not send off any emails, wait for three days to send the email

Do not pronounce divorce when you are angry.

When a munafiq gets angry, he becomes worse than a kafir.

His speech and actions prove to be worse than a kafir's.

The munafiq is harshly argumentative

Narrated by ‘Aishah that the Prophet said: “The most despicable person to Allah is one who is harshly argumentative."

[Al-Bukhari (2457) and Muslim (2668]

The one who is harshly argumentative is a 'cantankerous' person. These are the people that the devil uses to wind you up. Just give your salam and leave them.

You should stay away from people who provoke you

Some of you have a short fuse, and if you are provoked, you will react quickly. So keep away from these kinds of people who can provoke you easily.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al An'am verse 68

And when you (Muhammad SAW) see those who engage in a false conversation about Our Verses (of the Qur'an) by mocking at them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic. And if Shaitan (Satan) causes you to forget, then after the remembrance sit not you in the company of those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.).

(Al-An'am 6:68)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Furqan verse 65

And the slaves of the Most Beneficent (Allah) are those who walk on the earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness.

(Al-Furqan 25:63)

When you converse with such people who are making a mockery of Quran and sunnah, you are throwing away gold and silver to the swine. Just say salam to the ignoramus. Because these people are below your status.

Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (RA) reported: Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "I guarantee a house in Jannah for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right; and I guarantee a home in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun; and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has good manners."

[Sunan Abu Dawud (4/253) No. 4800]

Narrated by Abu Qatadah and Abu Ad-Dahma' who said: We came to a man from the people of the desert and asked him: Did you hear a Hadith from the Messenger of Allah (SAW)? He said: I heard him saying: "Whosoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, then Allah the Mighty and Magnificent, will replace it with something better than it."

[Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 5, pg.363, No. 23124]

What happens after arguing. It will cause name-calling and name-calling is haram.

jinn's get angry quickly, because they were made of fire.

A sahabah urinated in a stone hole in Syria, fell down, and died. Because the jinn assumed he did it on purpose.

Qatadah related from 'Abdullah ibn Sarjas who said, "The Messenger of Allah forbade urination into a hole." Said Qatadah, "What is disliked about urinating into a hole?" Said he, "It is the residence of the jinn."

[related by Ahmad, an-Nasa'i, Abu Dawud, al-Hakim and al-Baihaqi. Ibn Khuzaimah and Ibn as-Sakin classified it as sahih]

humans are slow to anger, because they are made from clay.

If you are not patient with the weaknesses of others, you will end up divorced and die on your own.

Ibn Umar (RA) narrated the Prophet (SAW) said, “The believer that mixes with people and endures the hardship they cause, he is better than the believer who does not mix with people and so does not endure the hardship they cause."

[Musnad Ahmad (5/365) No. 23147, Sunan Ibn Majah (5/160) No. 4032, Sunan Tirmidhi (4/243) No. 2507]

The one that mixes with the people and endures the pain they cause him, will help him enter paradise quicker because of the sabr he had with others when they harmed him.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Fussilat verse 36

And if an evil whisper from Shaitan (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad SAW) (from doing good, etc.), then seek refuge in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

(Fussilat 41:36)

Jarir ibn 'Abdullah reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "If someone does not show mercy to people, Allah will not show mercy to him."

[Al-Bukhari (7376) and Muslim (5737)]

Abdullah ibn Amr (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “Those who are merciful will be given mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth and the One above the heavens will have mercy on you.”

[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 40, Hadith #4941]

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al An Nur verse 22

And let not those among you who are blessed with graces and wealth swear not to give (any sort of help) to their kinsmen, Al-Masakin (the poor), and those who left their homes for Allah's Cause. Let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(An-Nur 24:22)

Mistah ibn Uthaatha only smiled when he heard the rumour of the affair of Aisha (RAA), so he did not actually take part in the slandering. But he still got 80 lashes for this. Abu Bakr (RA) promised to stop giving his cousin Mistah financial aid, but when the above ayah came down, Abu Bakr (RA) broke his promise and continued to give financial aid to Mistah in order to be forgiven by Allah.

GATE #8 - GATE OF DHIKR

This is the last gate of paradise.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Ra'd verse 28

Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.

(Ra'd 13:28)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah verse 41

O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance.

(Al-Ahzab 33:41)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Baqarah verse 152

Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying, etc.). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me.

(Al-Baqarah 2:152)

One of the characteristics of a munafiq is that they cannot make dhikr.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah At Tawbah verse 67

They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them

(At-Tawbah 9:67)

The tafsir in above ayah cannot be taken literally as Allah (SWT) does not forget.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Mujadilah verse 19

Shaitan (Satan) has overtaken them. So he has made them forget the remembrance of Allah. They are the party of Shaitan (Satan). Verily, it is the party of Shaitan (Satan) that will be the losers!

(Al-Mujadilah 58:19)

Those who do not do dhikr, Allah (SWT) appoints for them a devil to become an intimate companion.

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Az Zukhruf verse 36

And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Qur'an and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan devil) to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him.

(Az-Zukhruf 43:36)

THOSE WHO DO NOT DO DHIKR, ALLAH (SWT) WILL CAUSE THEM TO BE BLIND ON JUDGEMENT DAY

Why have you raised me up blind, while I had sight (before)." (Allah) will say: "Like this, Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) came unto you, but you disregarded them (i.e. you left them, did not think deeply in them, and you turned away from them), and so this Day, you will be neglected (in the Hell-fire, away from Allah's Mercy)."

(Ta-Ha 20:124-126)

The above mentioned ayah states, the one who does not do dhikr will have a wretched life, and will be brought back to life blind on the day of judgement.

ALLAH (SWT) PRAISED THOSE WHO DO DHIKR AS MEN OF UNDERSTANDING

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Imran verse 190-191

Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding. Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying) : "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.

(Aali Imran 3:190-191)

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah Al Ankabut verse 45

Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee, and establish Regular Prayer: for Prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance of Allah is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And Allah knows the (deeds) that ye do.

(Al-'Ankabut 29:45) YUSUF ALI

Recite (O Muhammad SAW) what has been revealed to you of the Book (the Qur'an), and perform As-Salat (Iqamatas Salat). Verily, As-Salat (the prayer) prevents from Al-Fahsha' (i.e. great sins of every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) and Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every kind of evil wicked deed, etc.) and the remembering (praising, etc.) of (you by) Allah (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising, etc.) Allah in prayers, etc.]. And Allah knows what you do.

(Al-'Ankabut 29:45) Mushin Khan

These are two Tafsirs on the same ayah.

Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, “The world, with all that it contains, is accursed except for dhikr (the remembrance of Allah) that which pleases Allah; and the religious scholars and seekers of knowledge.''

[Sunan Tirmidhi (4/561) 2322 and Sunan Ibn Majah (5/231) 4112, (Abu Eesa al-Tirmidhi said: this hadeeth is hasan ghareeb)]

The Prophet said: udhkur Allaha hatta yaqulu majnun "Remember / mention Allah as much as you want, until people say that you are crazy and foolish"

[Narrated by Ahmad in his Musnad, Ibn Hibban in his Sahih, and al-Hakim who declared it sahih]

Allah (SWT) said in the Quran Surah An Nur verse 36 to 37

In houses (mosques), which Allah has ordered to be raised (to be cleaned, and to be honoured), in them His Name is glorified in the mornings and in the afternoons or the evenings, Men whom neither trade nor sale diverts them from the Remembrance of Allah (with heart and tongue), nor from performing As Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), nor from giving the Zakat. They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned (from the horror of the torment of the Day of Resurrection).

(An-Nur 24:36-37)

أكثروا ذكر الله حتى يقولوا مجنون>> :وروى أبو سعيد عن النبيّ صلى الله عليه وسلّم
