WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF ISLAM
It is to surrender to Allah (SWT) with Tawheed and to submit to Allah (SWT) with obedience and to renounce shirk and the people of shirk.
This is the only correct definition of Islam.
There is no other proper definition for Islam.
Islam is built on 5 pillars.
On the authority of Abu Abdul Rahmaan Abdullah (RA), the son of Umar ibn al-Kattaab (RA) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say: "Islam is built upon five [pillars]: testifying that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the prayers, giving zakat, making pilgrimage to the House and fasting the month of Ramadan.”
(Recorded in Bukhari and Muslim)
The 5 pillars of Islam are shahada, salah, zakah, saum and hajj.
The shahadah itself which is the first pillar of Islam has two parts.
The first part is called the negation and the second part is called the affirmation.
Therefore to believe in Allah (SWT) is not enough to make you a Muslim. You have to reject the taghoot and then believe in Allah (SWT).
To believe in Allah (SWT) is just half of the shahada.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qur'an surah Al Baqarah verse 256
There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
Allah (SWT) told you in the above ayah that to believe in Allah (SWT) is not enough to make you a Muslim, you need to reject the taghoot.
The shahadah itself has 7 conditions.
You cannot be classified as a real Muslim until these 7 conditions are met.
The Arabic word taghoot means false deities.
Taghoot also means man made isms and schisms.
Taghoot also means the kaafir courthouse.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qur'an surah An Nisa verse 60
Have you seen those (hyprocrites) who claim that they believe in that which has been sent down to you, and that which was sent down before you, and they wish to go for judgement (in their disputes) to the Taghut (false judges, etc.) while they have been ordered to reject them. But Shaitan (Satan) wishes to lead them far astray.
Taghoot also means the kaafir army.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qur'an surah An Nisa 76
Those who believe, fight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, fight in the cause of Taghut (Satan, etc.). So fight you against the friends of Shaitan (Satan); Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitan (Satan).
Allah (SWT) has made takfeer on anyone who gives his walaa to the taghout.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qur'an surah Al Baqarah verse 257
Allah is the Wali (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. But as for those who disbelieve, their Auliya (supporters and helpers) are Taghut [false deities and false leaders, etc.], they bring them out from light into darkness. Those are the dwellers of the Fire, and they will abide therein forever.
Allah (SWT) has made takfeer on anyone who gives their walaa to the taghout in the above-mentioned ayah.
Therefore you are not allowed to join the army of the kuffar, neither are you allowed to join kaafir institutions like the freemasons.
You are not allowed to join the UN.
When you join the kaafir army, you give your walaa to the taghout.
The only army you can join is the mujahideen.
As for the shahadah itself, it has 7 conditions.
WHAT ARE THE 7 CONDITIONS OF SHAHADAH?
1 - KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THE SHAHADAH STANDS FOR
The person who takes his shahadah has to know what he is reciting.
And those whom they invoke instead of Him have no power of intercession; except those who bear witness to the truth (i.e. believed in the Oneness of Allah, and obeyed His Orders), and they know (the facts about the Oneness of Allah) .
2 - CERTAINTY
If you are not sure that Allah (SWT) exists or that Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is a prophet or about judgment day, you are a kaafir.
You are not sure about your faith.
The moment you have doubts about your faith, you have lost your faith.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran surah AL Hujurat verse 15
Only those are the believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and afterward doubt not but strive with their wealth and their lives for the Cause of Allah. Those! They are the truthful.
3 - TO BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART AND TO TESTIFY WITH YOUR TONGUE
Abu Talib didn't testify so he died a kaafir.
Whenever you have Muslim children, you don't need to give them their shahadah when they reach puberty because when they establish salah they take shahadah.
Allah bears witness that La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice. La ilah illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
(Aali Imran 3:18)
No sahaba gave shahadah to their kids when they reached puberty.
That is bid'ah and the manhaj of the khawaarij.
4 - COMPLETE SURRENDER TO QUR'AN AND SUNNAH
Allah (SWT) said in the Qur'an surah AL Baqarah verse 208
O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islam (by obeying all the rules and regulations of the Islamic religion) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan). Verily! He is to you a plain enemy
Therefore you can't have one foot in Islam and one foot in jahiliyyah.
You have to enter into Islam wholeheartedly
You can't have one foot in Islam and one foot in Christianity.
5 - TO CONDEMN ALL SHADES OF FALSEHOOD
A real Muslim is not allowed to choose which falsehood to condemn.
For the sake of sincerity, he needs to condemn all shades of kufr, shirk and zandaqa.
Zandaqa is heresy.
On the authority of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree (RA) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say, “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.”
[Sahih Muslim (1/69) No. 49, Musnad Ahmad (3/10) No. 11088, Sunan Ibn Majah (5/145) No. 4013, Sunan Tirmidhi (4/469) No. 2172, Sunan Abu Dawud (1/296) No. 1140, Sunan al-Nasa'i (8/112) No. 5009]
6 - SINGULARITY OF DEVOTION
This is to single out Allah for your ibadah, to worship Allah (SWT) alone without associating partners to Him.
As for the grave worshippers of the ummah, they have failed miserably with this condition of shahadah.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran surah An An'am verse 162-163
Say (O Muhammad SAW) : "Verily, my Salat (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). "He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims."
7 - AL WALAA WAL BARAA
This is to love and hate for the sake of Allah (SWT).
A real Muslim loves what Allah (SWT) loves and hate what Allah (SWT) hates.
As for the madkhalis and the goofy Sufis, they have failed miserably with this condition because they are in bed with the taghout.
They did not reject the taghoot.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran Surah Al Mumtahinah verse 1
O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies (i.e. disbelievers and polytheists, etc.) as friends, showing affection towards them, while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, this Qur'an, and Muhammad SAW), and have driven out the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) and yourselves (from your homeland) because you believe in Allah your Lord! If you have come forth to strive in My Cause and to seek My Good Pleasure, (then take not these disbelievers and polytheists, etc., as your friends). You show friendship to them in secret, while I am All-Aware of what you conceal and what you reveal. And whosoever of you (Muslims) does that, then indeed he has gone (far) astray, (away) from the Straight Path.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran Surah At Talaq verse 4
And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the 'Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubts (about their periods), is three months, and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their 'Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise, except in case of death]. And for those who are pregnant (whether they are divorced or their husbands are dead), their 'Iddah (prescribed period) is until they deliver (their burdens), and whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make his matter easy for him.
As for the second pillar of Islam which is salah, it will be the first act which Allah (SWT) asks you about on the day of judgement.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran Surah At Tawbah verse 11
But if they repent, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, then they are your brethren in religion. (In this way) We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for a people who know.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran Surah Al Mujadilah verse 22
You (O Muhammad SAW) will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW ), even though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Ruh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And We will admit them to Gardens (
under which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah is pleased with
them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Verily, it is the Party
of Allah that will be the successful.
In the above-mentioned ayah, Allah (SWT) said three conditions need to be met in order to accept a revert into Islam.
They need to repent, perform salah and pay zakah.
Then they become your brothers in deen.
As for the zakah, when Abu Bakr (RA) was the caliph, he fought and killed people who refused to pay the zakah.
They were not allowed to be buried in the graveyard of the Muslims.
Their womenfolk were taken as concubines.
Takfeer was made on them.
As for Ramadan which is the fourth pillar, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said any man who fasts with iman and hope his past sins will be forgiven.
"Whoever fasts Ramadan out of Iman and seeking Allah's reward then his past and future sins are forgiven."
(Hasan, Ahmad. Declared Hasan by adh-Dhahabi, as mentioned in al-Mughni (5876).)
As for Hajj, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said any man who died without making hajj without a good reason; he died the death of a Jew or a Christian.
Ali (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “He who possess enough food for the trip, a means of transportation to reach to Makkah, and yet does not perform Hajj, then he dies, he would then die as a Jew or a Christian...”
[Sunan Tirmidhi (3/176) No. 812, Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Iman' (5/443) No. 3692, Musnad al-Bazzaar (3/87-88) No. 861]
WHAT IS IMAN?
According to the murjia, iman is conviction of the heart alone.
We will never accept this definition because it includes the Pharaoh inside the fold of Islam.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran surah An Naml verse 14
And they belied them (those Ayat) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ayat) are from Allah, and Musa (Moses) is the Messenger of Allah in truth, but they disliked to obey Musa (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsidun (disbelievers, disobedient to Allah, evil-doers, liars.).
Allah (SWT) told you in the above ayah that the Pharaoh was convinced in his heart about Islam.
According to some murjia, imaan is declaration with the tongue only.
We will never accept this definition because it includes all the hypocrites inside the fold of Islam.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran surah Al Munafiqun verse 1
When the hypocrites come to you (O Muhammad SAW), they say: "We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah." Allah knows that you are indeed His Messenger and Allah bears witness that the hypocrites are liars indeed.
In the above ayah, Allah (SWT) threw back the shahada of the hypocrites in their face.
We will never accept the definition of the murjia about iman.
Other murjia claim Iman is conviction of the heart and declaration with the tongue only.
We will never accept this definition because with this definition they have included the shaitaan insided the fold of Islam.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran surah Al Hijr verse 36
[Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected."
The correct definition of Iman is that given by Ahlus sunnah wal jamaah.
Iman is conviction of the heart, declaration with the tongue and implementation with the limbs.
If one of these are missing, the person is lacking in Iman.
Your iman has to be comprised of three things.
WHAT ARE THE 6 PILLARS OF IMAN?
1 - TO BELIEVE IN ALLAH
2 - HIS ANGELS
3 - HIS BOOKS
4 - HIS MESSENGERS
5 - JUDGEMENT DAY
6 - QADR (DESTINY)
If a person rejects faith in one of these 6 pillars, we have to make takfeer of him.
Any man who says judgement day is a myth has rejected faith.
So he is no longer inside the fold of Islam.
His rejection has led to his ejection from Islam.
Umar (RA) ibn al-Khattab (RA) said that they were with Allah’s Messenger (SAW) when a man came wearing extremely white clothing and deep black hair but signs of a journey could not be detected on him nor could they recognise him as one of them. He came to the Prophet (SAW) and sat down beside him, his knees touching the Prophet’s (SAW). He asked “O Muhammad, what is faith”? He said, “It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers (peace be upon them all), in the Last Day and in Predestination of good and evil.” He asked, “And what is Islam?” He said, ‘It is. to testify that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger (SAW) to establish the Salah, to pay the Zakah, to perform pilgrimage of the House and to fast in Ramadan.’ He asked, “And what is Ihsan”? He said, It is that you worship Allah as though you see Him, for it you cannot see Him, He sees you.” The visitor remarked, “In everything that you have spoken, you spoke truth.” Umar (RA) said that they were surprised at his questioning him and then confirming that he spoke the truth.
[Bukhari 47, Muslim 4, Tirmidhi 2619, Abu Dawud 4695, Nisai 5005, Ibn Majah 63, Ahmed 184]
When the angel said to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) what is Islam and what is Iman, the angel made a difference between the two.
This means there is a difference between a Muslim and a mu'min.
If you don't know that, it means you did not classify the knowledge and you are a headless chicken.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran Surah Al Hujurat verse 14
The Bedouins say: "We believe." Say: "You believe not but you only say, 'We have surrendered (in Islam),' for Faith has not yet entered your hearts. But if you obey Allah and His Messenger (SAW), He will not decrease anything in reward for your deeds. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
Allah (SWT) Himself made a difference in the above ayah.
The desert Arabs suffered dire straits.
They asked the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to feed them because they are muminoon.
Allah (SWT) said they are not yet muminoon, they are only muslimoon.
The mu'min are the believers with unshakable conviction about their faith.
The muslimoon are the submitters.
The mu'min are of a higher level.
Every mumin is a Muslim but not every Muslim is a mumin.
The man committing fornication is not a Mu'min in the act.
So are you going to make takfeer on him?
Narrated By Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "When an adulterer commits illegal sexual intercourse, then he is not a believer at the time he is doing it; and when somebody drinks an alcoholic drink, then he is not believer at the time of drinking, and when a thief steals, he is not a believer at the time when he is stealing; and when a robber robs and the people look at him, then he is not a believer at the time of doing it." Abu Huraira in another narration, narrated the same from the Prophet with the exclusion of robbery.
[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 8, Book 81, Hadith #763]
If you make takfeer on him because of fornication, you are from the khawaarij.
The man fornicating is a Muslim but not a mu'min.
That is the sharh of the hadith.
There is no other explanation for it.
We don't make takfeer on people for their sins unless their sin is kufr Akbar.
The iman itself rises and falls.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran Surah Al Imran verse 173
Those (i.e. believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said, "Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them." But it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said: "Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)."
(Aali Imran 3:173)
The above mentioned ayah is evidence that iman rises and falls.
Hanzala reported: We were in the company of Allah's Messenger (SAW) and he delivered to us a sermon and made a mention of Hell-Fire. Then I came to my house and began to laugh with my children and sport with my wife. (Hanzala) further reported: I went out and met Abu Bakr and made a mention of that to him. Thereupon he said: I have done the same as you have mentioned. So we went to see Allah's Messenger (SAW) and said to him: Allah's Messenger, Hanzala has become a hypocrite. And he (the Holy Prophet) said Show respite. And then I narrated to him the story, and Abu Bakr said: I have done the same as he has done. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Hanzala, there is a time for worldly affairs and a time for (worship and devotion), and if your state of mind is always the same as it is at the time of remembrance of Allah, the Angels would shake hands with you and would greet you on the path by saying: As-Salamu-Alaikum.
[Sahih Muslim (4/2107) No. 2750]
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran Surah Al Tawbah verse 124
And whenever there comes down a Surah (chapter from the Qur'an), some of them (hypocrites) say: "Which of you has had his Faith increased by it?" As for those who believe, it has increased their Faith, and they rejoice.
Those who believe that our iman is static are of the stray sects.
Our actions are a part of our iman.
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said to remove a harmful thing from the road is a branch of iman.
Abu Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Faith has over seventy branches or over sixty branches, the most excellent of which is the declaration that there is no god but Allah, and the humblest of which is the, removal of what is injurious from the path: and modesty is the branch of faith."
[Al-Bukhari (8) and Muslim (56)]
Abu Huraira (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, "Faith has a little over seventy gates. The humblest of them is to remove something hurtful from the path and the highest of them is the saying 'There is no god but Allah.”
[Bukhari 9, Muslim 35, Tirmidhi 2623, Abu Dawud 4676, Nisai 5019, Ibn Majah 57, Ahmed 9372]
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran Surah Al Baqarah verse 143
And Allah would never make your faith (prayers) to be lost (i.e. your prayers offered towards
Those who believe our actions are not a part of our iman belong to a stray sect.
Because Qur'an and sunnah has proven them to be wrong.
WHAT IS IHSAAN?
Ihsaan means the perfection of faith.
What is Ihsan”? He said, It is that you worship Allah as though you see Him, for it you cannot see Him, He sees you.” ...... He was Jibril come to teach you the basics of your religion.”
[Bukhari 47, Muslim 4, Tirmidhi 2619, Abu Dawud 4695, Nisai 5005, Ibn Majah 63, Ahmed 184]
It is to worship Allah (SWT) as if to say you see Allah (SWT). Even though you cannot see Allah (SWT), you have the awareness that Allah (SWT) is watching you.
This is what the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) told the angel Gabriel so we will stick to what the Prophet said.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran surah Al An'am verse 84
And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac) and Ya'qub (Jacob), each of them We guided, and before him, We guided Nuh (Noah), and among his progeny Dawud (David), Sulaiman (Solomon), Ayub (Job), Yusuf (Joseph), Musa (Moses), and Harun (Aaron). Thus do We reward the good doers.
Allah (SWT) said in the Qu'ran surah Al Ma'idah verse 85
So because of what they said, Allah rewarded them Gardens under which rivers flow (in
Paradise), they will
abide therein forever. Such is the reward of good doers.
Allah (SWT) talked about the muhsineen in the above ayah. It was translated as good-doers.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MUSLIM, A MU'MIN AND A MUHSIN?
The word 'Muslim' is translated as the submitter.
This is because he worships Allah (SWT) alone without ascribing partners to Allah (SWT).
He singles out Allah (SWT) for his ibadah.
He submits to Allah (SWT) alone.
Had he worshipped somebody else besides Allah (SWT), he wouldn't be called a Muslim; he would be called a mushrik.
But because he worships Allah (SWT) alone, he is called a Muslim (submitter).
He gained the title of being a Muslim because he worships Allah (SWT) alone.
It is possible that a Muslim might have a weakness in his character which is a major weakness.
like alcohol, gambling or girls
We are not allowed to make takfeer on him because none of these weaknesses were classified as major kufr.
They are all minor kufr.
We are only allowed to make takfeer on a Muslim if he dabbles in major kufr, e.g. black magic.
Or spying for the crusaders against the mujahideen.
That is the modus operandi of a Saudi salafi.
When the kuffar invaded
Nobody taught them kufr bit taghout.
They did not know to translate for NATO is an act of apostasy when they translate the plans of the mujahideen.
These translators are the greatest enemies of Islam.
The hypocrites are very dangerous when a Muslim land is invaded because they know the language and the terrain.
This makes them the most dangerous of kuffar.
They help the crusaders to carry out their occupation of a Muslim country.
WHO IS THE MU'MIN?
The word 'mu'min' is translated as a believer who has unshakable conviction about his faith.
So the mu'min is on a higher level than the Muslim.
Therefore every mu'min is a Muslim but not every Muslim is a mu'min.
WHO IS THE MUHSIN?
The muhsin is the believer who remembers Allah (SWT) abundantly so he abstains from major sins, minor sins and even the makruh.
Examples of such people are Abu Bakr (RA) and Umar (RA).
As for the mu'min he doesn't have a major sin which has become a trait in his character like zina and khamr.
As for the Muslim, it is possible for him to have a major sin as a trait in his character like zina and khamr.
We are not allowed to make takfeer on him because these weaknesses are minor kufr.
