NOTES TYPED BY Munotayka
EDITED BY AT38

Say: "I seek refuge with (Allāh) the Lord of the daybreak, (Al-Falaq 113:1)
"From the evil of what He has created; (Al-Falaq 113:2)
"And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away). (Al-Falaq 113:3)
"And from the evil of the witchcrafts when they blow in the knots, (Al-Falaq 113:4)
"And from the evil of the envier when he envies." (Al-Falaq 113:5)

This Surah was revealed in Makkah

Some, such as Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (RH), Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl (RA), Wasil ibn ‘Ata (RH), and Jabir bin Zaid al-‘Azdi (RH) are of the opinion that the two surahs are Makki (revealed in Makkah). Abdullah ibn Abbas (RA) supports the same view, but there is another tradition from him saying that the surah is Madini (revealed in Madinah), and Qatadah bin al-Nu’man (RA) and Abdullah ibn az-Zubair (RA) share this view as well. This view is further supported by a hadith in which ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir (RA) narrates how the Prophet (SAW) told him that on that particular day these surahs had been revealed to him. (Sahih Muslim Bk.004 Ch.136 No.1774)

What gives weight to the argument to those that say it was revealed in Madinah is the hadith:

It was narrated that Uqbah bin Amr said:The Messenger of Allah () said: 'Some verses were revealed to me tonight, the like of which has never been seen: "Say: I seek refuge with (Allah), the Lord of the daybreak." And "Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind.'" Sunan an-Nasa'i 954, and Vol. 2, Book 11, Hadith 955

This is the evidence that these two surahs were revealed in Madinah

The reason why Allah revealed this was because:

Some Jews came to Medina
They said to Lubaid ibn A'sam, another Jew, that he was skilled in black magic
They paid him three gold coins to cast a spell on the Prophet (saw)
People use their magic to destroy lives

Magic was worked on the Prophet so that he began to fancy that he was doing a thing which he was not actually doing. One day he invoked (Allah) for a long period and then said, "I feel that Allah has inspired me as how to cure myself.  Two persons came to me (in my dream) and sat, one by my head and the other by my feet. One of them asked the other, "What is the ailment of this man?" The other replied, 'He has been bewitched" The first asked, 'Who has bewitched him?' The other replied, 'Lubaid bin Al-A'sam.' The first one asked, 'What material has he used?'
' The other replied, 'A comb, the hair gathered on it, and the outer skin of the pollen of the male date-palm.' The first asked, 'Where is that?' The other replied, 'It is in the well of Dharwan. " So, the Prophet went out towards the well and then returned and said to me on his return,  "Its date-palms (the date-palms near the well) are like the heads of the devils." I asked, "Did you take out those things with which the magic was worked?" He said, "No, for I have been cured by Allah and I am afraid that this action may spread evil amongst the people." Later on the well was filled up with earth. (Bukhari, Vol 4, No 490)

He made a waxwork and stuck multiple needles in it
He used the hair from the Prophet's (saw) comb
He took the pollen of the date palm tree
He tied knots in it and buried it in a well

The magic made him delusional
He will think that he had slept with his wife when has not
It lasted for 40 days

This hadith is found in various hadith books
Some say the hadith is unauthentic
They say no black magic was done on the Prophet
They say by authenticating this hadith you are giving ammunition to the haters
They say you are insulting the Prophet (saw) by accepting this hadith
They say it is the wahabis who believe this hadith
This is the argument of the Mu’tazilites
They say even the Shia don’t accept this hadith
They say it is fabricated
They use this verse to say that the hadith contradicts the Quran

We know best of what they listen to, when they listen to you. And when they take secret counsel, behold, the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.) say: "You follow none but a bewitched man." (Al-Isra 17:47)

See what examples they have put forward for you. So they have gone astray, and never can they find a way. (Al-Isra 17:48)

They say by using this hadith you are giving ammunition to the enemies of Islam
They say the ones who accept this hadith are astray
They say how can we accept a hadith that contradicts the Quran
I was taught all the arguments in university

We say to them: Allah (swt) allowed the black magic to take place on the Prophet (saw)
To teach the ummah how to deal with it
To teach you how to cure yourself in case you are affected with magic
Many Muslims when they have a family member on who black magic was used
They run to a magician for cure
This method works but it is not halaal
The magician himself is using black magic
He uses his jinn to beat away the other jinn

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF A PERSON WHO IS AFFECTED BY BLACK MAGIC

 1) They eat too much

2) They sleep too much

3) They don't like to take showers - they avoid personal hygiene

4) They hate to hear the adhaan

5) They abandon salah

6) They abuse drugs and alcohol

7) They avoid the company of the righteous

8) They walk in their sleep and throw themselves from a building 20 stories tall sometimes

9) They have numerous nocturnal emissions - the jinns tamper with their private parts when they are sleeping

10) They are unable to have a relationship - the jinn is going to make you break up with your husband and make you hate him

11) They can't hold a proper conversation - their chain of thought is not consistent

12) The person starts hallucinating and is delusional
This is what Aisha (r.a) said happened to the prophet (saw)

13) The person suffers a lot of epileptic seizures (he has fits)

14) They suffer from ailments like arthritis and diabetes

All these ailments and others come from iblees (shaytan)
Do not think that they came out of the blue
Even prophet Job (Ayoub) (a.s) complained it was the shaytan

And (remember) Ayub (Job), when he cried to his Lord: "Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy." (Al-Anbiya 21:83)

And remember Our slave Ayub (Job), when he invoked his Lord (saying) : "Verily! Shaitan (Satan) has touched me with distress (by losing my health) and torment (by losing my wealth)! (Sad 38:41)

15) The person is a female speaking with a male voice and vice versa
 - when this takes place, the possession is chronic

SURAHS THAT ARE EFFECTIVE AGAINST BLACK MAGIC

1) SURAH FATIHAH

It is an incantation - a cure for ailments

Ibn `Abbas narrated: 'Some of the companions of the Prophet passed by some people staying at a place where there was water, and one of those people had been stung by a scorpion. A man from those staying near the water, came and said to the companions of the Prophet, "Is there anyone among you who can do Ruqya as near the water there is a person who has been stung by a scorpion." So one of the Prophet's companions went to him and recited Surat-al-Fatiha for a sheep as his fees.
The patient got cured and the man brought the sheep to his companions who disliked that and said, "You have taken wages for reciting Allah's Book." When they arrived at Medina, they said, ' O Messenger of Allah! (This person) has taken wages for reciting Allah's Book" On that the Messenger of Allah said, “The thing for which you most deserve to take payment is the Book of Allah.”' [Sahih Bukhari (7/131) No. 5737]

The scholars use this hadith to say that it is permissible to charge for the Quran
Whether to recite for cure or to teach
How can you travel far to recite for free?
How can the person expect you to come all the way for free?

People are not doing anything haram to charge a fee for this

Sahl ibn Sad Saidi (RA) reported that a woman came to Allah’s Messenger (SAW) and said, “I submit myself to you.” Then, she stood for a long time. A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, marry me to her, if you do not need her.” He said, “Do you have anything to give her (by way of dower)?’ He said, “I have nothing but this lower wrapper of the body.” So, Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “If you give it to her then you will sit and have no lower garment on you. So, Look out for something else.” He said, “I do not find.” The Prophet (SAW) said, “Search, even if you find an iron ring.” He said, “I sought but could not find anything.”
So, Allah’s Messenger asked him, “Do you have with you anything of the Qur’an?” He said, “Yes, That surah, and that surah.” So Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “I marry you, to her with what you have of the Qur’an.” [Sahih Bukhari (6/192) No. 5029, Sahih Muslim (2/1040) No. 1425, Sunan Tirmidhi (3/421) No. 1114, Musnad Ahmad (5/330) No. 22850, Sunan An-Nasa'i (6/113) No. 3339]

Imam shafi used this as evidence (the above hadith) to say that you can charge for teaching the Quran and no one was able to refute him

 2) THE THREE QULS

On every night before the Messenger of Allah went to sleep, he collected his palms, then puffed them while reciting Al Ikhlas, Al Falaq, and An Nas, then rub the reachable parts of his body using his palms, starting from his head, his face, and parts of body. He repeated that three times. Even when he's ill, A'isha did that to him. (Bukhari:4630, Bukhari:5294, Bukhari:5307, Bukhari:5310, Bukhari:5844, Ahmad:24052, Ahmad:24308 supported by weak narrations Abu Dawud:4397, Tirmidhi:3324, Ahmad:23708, Ahmad:24170).

This is the hadith that shows you can blow in your hands and wipe your body

 3) SURAH JINN

 4) AYUTAL KURSI

5) THE ENTIRE SURAH BAQARA

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying: Do not make your houses as graveyards. Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Baqara is recited. [Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Hadith #1707]

 It is worthy of mentioning:

Two angels came to the prophet (saw) in his dream and told him who did the magic on him
He confessed to the crime because the Jews knew Muhammad was a true prophet
Lubaid bin Al-A'sam.' was a Jew and he knew that Muhammad was a true prophet
It was thrown in the well of banu Zurayk
When he sent for the magic to be brought out from the well
It was found to have 11 knots
Hence Allah (swt) instructed him to recite surah Falaq and surah Nas
Which in total contain 11 verses (one for each knot)

Magic was worked on the Prophet so that he began to fancy that he was doing a thing which he was not actually doing. One day he invoked (Allah) for a long period and then said, "I feel that Allah has inspired me as how to cure myself. Two persons came to me (in my dream) and sat, one by my head and the other by my feet. One of them asked the other, "What is the ailment of this man?" The other replied, 'He has been bewitched" The first asked, 'Who has bewitched him?' The other replied, 'Lubaid bin Al-A'sam.' The first one asked, 'What material has he used?' The other replied, 'A comb, the hair gathered on it, and the outer skin of the pollen of the male date-palm.' The first asked, 'Where is that?' The other replied, 'It is in the well of Dharwan.

The prophet could have killed him but he didn’t do so
The punishment for a magician is one strike of the sword

Jundub (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The hadd (prescribed punishment) for the practitioner of magic is a blow with the sword (i.e., execution)" [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/60) No. 1460, Sunan al-Daraqutni (4/120) No. 3204, Mustadrak al-Haakim (4/401) No. 8073, al-Sunan al-Kabir al-Bayhaqi (8/234) No. 16500, al-Mu'jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (2/161) No. 1665]

WHY DO PEOPLE PRACTICE BLACK MAGIC?

 1) They want to attract a girl to themselves - he put a magical spell on her

2) They want to break up man from wife

And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allāh's Leave. (Al-Baqarah 2:102)

They learned from these two angels how to separate man and wife
So a man can see his wife as ugly when she is pretty
Also she may be pious and obedient and yet he will dislike her
A woman may likewise see her husband as ugly when he is handsome
Also he can be pious and kind to her but yet she hates him
So she will be disobedient to him because she hates him

3) To acquire wealth

They paid three gold coins to put the spell on the Prophet.
He didn’t work for free

Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (RA) said: “The Messenger of Allah (SAW) prohibited the price of a dog, the earning of an prostitute, and the money given to a soothsayer.” [al-Bukhari (2237) and Muslim (1567)]

Abu haneefa (rh) said you can sell dogs that are trained
He explained the hadith to mean worthless dogs that cannot do anything
Dogs for agriculture, hunting, protection and special needs are halaal to sell
 This is the correct opinion
Hanafi fiqh is a very powerful fiqh
He said you can pay sadaqatul fitr in cash
When you give them cash, they have a choice to spend on what they need
This is the correct opinion
Some say you can only paid in grains etc.

 4) To entertain the crowd

David Blaine and Copperfield are magicians
Imam Shafi said you cannot kill a man who dabbles in black magic unless he has contact with the jinn
With no contact with the jinn it is a trick
You have to investigate to find out if he is in contact with the jinn
Abu Hanifa said that he begs to differ
He says you chop off his head regardless
Because he is a fitnah in the ummah
The correct opinion is the opinion of Shafi

5) To win a court case
He got charged with murder or attempted murder

 6) To recover stolen money
 7) To solve murder mysteries
 8) To point out the position of the Mujahideen

The Jews have never come face to face with the Mujahideen
The Jews only come face to face with the Shia, etc.
The Jews only fought pagan Arabs
Those Arabs fighting for nationality, etc.
The mujahideen have already announced that they are coming to fight them
But they will have to conquer Lebanon and / or Jordan first
They are the buffer zone between them

9) They suffer an ailment and they think magic can cure them of their ailment
Some become apostate because of illness
They say why did Allah (swt) pick on them

10) Envy

Why did Allah mention envy and black magic side by side?
Because if they are envious of you they do black magic on you to destroy you
The evil eye is a type of envy

‘A’ishah (RA) said: The person who had put the evil eye on another would be ordered to do wudoo’, then the person who had been afflicted would wash himself (with that water). [Sunan Abu Dawud (4/9) No. 3880]

Sahl ibn Haneef narrated that the Prophet (SAW) came out and traveled with him towards Makkah, until they were in the mountain pass of al-Kharaar in al-Jahfah. There Sahl ibn Haneef did ghusl, and he was a handsome white-skinned man with beautiful skin. ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah, one of Banu ‘Adiyy ibn Ka’b looked at him whilst he was doing ghusl and said: “I have never seen such beautiful skin as this, not even the skin of a virgin,” and Sahl fell to the ground. They went to Messenger of Allah (SAW) came and said, “O Messenger of Allah, can you do anything for Sahl, because by Allah he cannot raise his head.” He said, “Do you accuse anyone with regard to him?” They said, “ ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah looked at him.” So the Messenger of Allah (SAW) called ‘Aamir and rebuked him strongly. He said, “Why would one of you kill his brother? If you see something that you like, then pray for blessing for him.” Then he said to him, “Wash yourself for him.” So he washed his face, hands, forearms, knees and the sides of his feet, and inside his izaar (lower garment) in the vessel. Then that water was poured over him, and a man poured it over his head and back from behind. He did that to him, then Sahl got up and joined the people and there was nothing wrong with him. [Musnad Ahmad (3/486) No. 16023, Muwatta Malik (2/117) No. 1973, Sahih Ibn Hibban (13/470) No. 6106]

Ibn Masood (RA) narrated the Prophet (SAW) said: "Do not wish to be like anyone, except in two cases: (1) A man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously. (2) A man whom Allah has given wisdom (knowledge of the Qur'an and the Hadith) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others." [al-Bukhari (1409) and Muslim (816)]

Allah said seek refuge from the night, especially when the night is dark
People use the night to rob and kill people
The night is used for bad things
People use the night to do a lot of mischief on the earth
They use the night to rape women

And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away)."And from the evil of the witchcrafts when they blow in the knots, "And from the evil of the envier when he envies. (Al-Falaq 113:3)

Allah mentioned envy and black magic side by side because one brings the other
 Envy brings black magic
When they envy you they use the magic to destroy you

Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet (SAW), said “Whoever comes to a fortune-teller and believes him has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (SAW)”. [Musnad Ahmad (Vol. 2, pg. 429) No. 9532 and Mustadrak al-Hakim (Vol. 1, pg. 49) No. 15]

 THE HISTORY OF MAGIC

Many scholars say magic began when the two Angels Marut and Harut came down
To earth in the era of Prophet Suleiman (as)
However the shaikhs who taught shaikh said this argument is weak (not authentic)
They said Prophet Moses (as) existed hundreds of years before Prophet Sulaiman
When he went to Egypt the Pharoah gathered 70 magicians to challenge him
When Moses' snake ate up the snakes of the magicians they accepted Islam
 Pharaoh crucified them for this
 They died as shaheeds
