SURAH WAQIAH -MANKIND WILL BE DIVIDED INTO THREE IN THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT
This
surah was revealed in Mecca and contains 96 verses.
AYAH 1
When
the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:1)
What is
the meaning of the word "al-waqiah"?
It can
translated into English as the great and inevitable event.
It is
also another name for the day of judgement.
Judgement
day has 50 names according to Qurtubi and Imam Gazali.
Al-Waqiah
is one of the 50 names.
AYAH 2
And
there can be no denying of its befalling. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:2)
AYAH 3
It
will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; (Al-Waqi'ah 56:3)
Allah
(swt) is describing that the low spirit hang their heads down.
And
people of high spirits hang their heads up high.
It
proves that a pessimistic person hangs his head down
An
optimistic hangs his head high
Your
body language tells a lot about you.
AYAH 4
When
the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:4)
O
mankind! Fear your Lord and be dutiful to Him! Verily, the earthquake of the
Hour (of Judgement) is a terrible thing. (Al-Hajj 22:1)
When
the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake. (Az-Zalzalah 99:1)
And
when the earth throws out its burdens, (Az-Zalzalah 99:2)
And
man will say: "What is the matter with it?" (Az-Zalzalah 99:3)
That
Day it will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good or
evil). (Az-Zalzalah 99:4)
This
severe earthquake will cause the mountains of the earth to become dust.
Mountains
like Everest, Kilimanjaro etc
They
will be like wool
Ayah 4
resembles Surah 101 verses 1 to 5.
Al-Qari'ah
(the striking Hour i.e. the Day of Resurrection), (Al-Qari'ah 101:1)
What
is the striking (Hour)? (Al-Qari'ah 101:2)
And what will make you know
what the striking (Hour) is? (Al-Qari'ah 101:3)
It is a Day whereon mankind
will be like moths scattered about, (Al-Qari'ah 101:4)
And the mountains will be like
carded wool, (Al-Qari'ah 101:5)
AYAH 5
And
the mountains will be powdered to dust. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:5)
AYAH 6
So
that they will become floating dust particles. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:6)
These
mountains, that humanity is impressed with, will become dust particles.
AYAH 7
And
you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:7)
Mankind
will be divided into three groups.
AYAH 8
So
those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their
right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them,
because they will enter Paradise). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:8)
The
first group will be the companions of the right hand.
These
are the pious and practicing muslims
They
will be given their books in their right hand.
They
will be at right side of the throne of Allah (swt)
The
companions of the right hand are called the firqa najia.
AYAH 9
And
those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left
hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because
they will enter Hell). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:9)
The
second group are those who will receive their record in their left hand.
They are
the evil people.
AYAH 10
And
those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous
deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,]
will be foremost (in Paradise). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:10)
The
third group is called the foremost, they are the most fervent of the Muslims.
They are
the Prophets, the Messengers, and the mujahideen.
Their
destination will be jannat al-firdaws.
They are
called the taifah al mansoorah.
They are
the mujahideen
They are
different from the farqaa najia.
(And
you (all) will be in three groups.) This means that people will be divided into
three categories on the Day of Resurrection. Some will on the right of Allah's
Throne, and they are those who were brought forth from Adam's right side. This
category will be given their Books of Records in their right hand and will be
taken to the right side. As-Suddi explained that they will comprise the
majority of the residents of Paradise. Another
category is those who will be placed to the left of Allah's Throne, and they
are those who were brought forth from `Adam's left side. This category will be
given their Books of Records in their left hands and will be taken to the left
side. They are the residents of the Fire, may Allah save us from their actions.
A third category is comprised of those who are the foremost and nearest before
Allah. They are in a better grade and status and nearer to Allah than
those on the right side. They are the chiefs of those on the right side,
because they include the Messengers, Prophets, true believers and martyrs. They
are fewer than those on the right side.
End
The
taifah al mansoorah are the elite of the elite.
The
firqa najia means the main body of the Muslims upon the correct aqeedah.
The
taifah al mansoorah are the mujahideen.
They are
front line material.
Even
women can be front line material.
If the
ameer allows her to do so
Muawiyyah
(r.a) took a woman in the front line, her name was Umm Haram (r.a)
It was
narrated from Anas ibn Malik (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) used to
enter upon Umm Haram bint Milhan and she would give him food. Umm Haram was
married to 'Ubaidah ibn al-Samit. One day the Messenger of Allah (SAW) entered
upon her, and she provided him with food and started grooming his head. The
Messenger of Allah (SAW) slept, then he woke up smiling. Umm Haram asked,
"What is making you smile, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Some
people of my Ummah were shown to me (in my dream) campaigning for the sake of
Allah, sailing in the middle of the sea like kings on thrones." Umm Haram
added, "I said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah to make me one of
them.'" So the Messenger of Allah (SAW) prayed to Allah for her and then
laid his head down (and slept). Then he woke up smiling (again). (Umm Haram
added): I said, "What is making you smile, O Messenger of Allah?" He
said, "Some people of my Ummah were shown to me (in my dream) campaigning
for the sake of Allah." He said
the same as he had said before. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to
Allah to make me one of them." He said: "You will be among the first
ones." Then Umm Haram sailed across the sea during the time of Mu'awiyah
ibn Abi Sufyan, and she fell down from her riding animal after coming ashore,
and died. [al-Bukhari (2877) and Muslim (1912)]
The
taifah al mansoorah are 70 000 who will enter paradise without any reckoning
These
are those who don’t practice ruqiyyah (incantation) even though it is halal
Ibn
'Abbas said, "The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, 'All the nations were
shown to me and I saw a Prophet with a small group, and a Prophet with one or
two men, and a Prophet with no one at all. Then an enormous mass was shown to
me and I thought that they were my community. I was told, "This is Musa
and his community, but look to the furthest horizon," and there was an
enormous mass. It was said to me, "This is your community. Among
them are seventy thousand who will enter the Garden without reckoning or
punishment."' Then he got up and entered his house and the people
discussed concerning those who would enter the Garden without reckoning or
punishment. 'Perhaps it is those who are born in Islam and do not associate
anything with Allah,' and they mentioned various things. The Messenger of Allah
came out to them and said, 'What are you discussing?' They told him and he
said, 'They are those who do not make charms or ask others for charms, and do
not seek omens. They trust in their Lord.' 'Ukkasha ibn Muhsin stood up and said,
'Ask Allah to make me one of them.' He said, 'You are one of them.' Then
another man stood up and said, 'Ask Allah to make me one of them.' He said,
"'Ukkasha beat you to it.'" [al-Bukhari (5705) and Muslim (220)]
Allah
spoke about the foremost again in Surah 4 verse 69.
And
whoso obeys Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad SAW), then they will be in the
company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the
Siddiqun (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to
believe in them, like Abu Bakr AsSiddiq), the
martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are! (An-Nisa
4:69)
AYAH 11
These
will be those nearest to Allah. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:11)
AYAH 12
In the
Gardens of delight (Paradise). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:12)
AYAH 13
A
multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced
Islam). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:13)
The majority
of the foremost will be from the first generation of Muslims.
They are
known as the sahaba.
The
companions of the Prophet (saws).
AYAH 14
And a
few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). (Al-Waqi'ah
56:14)
And a
few will be from later generation.
Narrated By 'Abdullah : The
Prophet said, "The best people are those of my generation, and then those
who will come after them (the next generation), and then those who will come
after them (i.e. the next generation), and then after them, there will come
people whose witness will precede their oaths, and whose oaths will precede
their witness." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 8, Book 76, Hadith #437]
AYAH 15
(They
will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:15)
In dunya
you are not allowed sit on silk or gold or wear it.
But in
paradise, you will be able to.
AYAH 16
Reclining
thereon, face to face. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:16)
It is
bad manner to turn your back on someone, so in paradise you will sit face to
face.
AYAH 17
They
will be served by immortal boys, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:17)
AYAH 18
With
cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:18)
Immortal
boys will be forever young and no beard.
There is
no beard in paradise and no old people in paradise
You will
be 33 years old.
There is
wine in paradise but it doesn't make you drunk.
The
description of Paradise which the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2) have been
promised is that in it are rivers of water the taste and smell of which are not
changed; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine
delicious to those who drink; and rivers of clarified honey (clear and pure) therein
for them is every kind of fruit; and forgiveness from their Lord. (Are these)
like those who shall dwell for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink,
boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels? (Muhammad 47:15)
In
paradise there are 100s of rivers.
Rivers
of wine, milk, honey, water
However,
alcohol is haram in dunya.
And your
salah will not be accepted for for 40 days.
Abdullah
ibn Umar (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “If anyone drinks
wine then his salah over forty days are not approved. If he repents then Allah
will relent to him. If he reverts (to it), then Allah will not approve his
salah over forty days. If he repents, Allah will relent to him but if he
reverts (to it) then Allah will not approve his salah over forty days. If he
repents then Allah will relent to him. Again, if he reverts the fourth time,
Allah will not approve his salah over forty days and if he repents then Allah
will not relent to him and He will give him to drink from the river of Khabal.”
Someone asked, “O Abu Abdur Rahman! what is the river of Khabal?’ He said, “The
pus of the dwellers of the people of fire.” [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/290) No. 1862,
Sunan Nasa'i (8/317) No. 5670, Musnad Ahmad (2/35) No. 4917, al-Mu’jam al-Kabir
al-Tabarani (12/390) No. 13441]
But you
must still pray to keep your status as a Muslim.
AYAH 19
Wherefrom
they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. (Al-Waqi'ah
56:19)
The wine
of the dunya makes you drunk and vomit
And you
do humiliating things
AYAH 20
And
fruit; that they may choose. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:20)
There
will be a wide variety of fruits in paradise.
Every
day the taste will be different but the color will remain the same.
Every
time they will be provided with a fruit therefrom, they will say: "This is
what we were provided with before," and they will be given things in
resemblance (i.e. in the same form but different in taste) (Al-Baqarah
2:25)
AYAH 21
And
the flesh of fowls that they desire. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:21)
There
will be birds to eat in paradise.
AYAH 22
And
(there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the
pious), (Al-Waqi'ah 56:22)
AYAH 23
Like
unto preserved pearls. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:23)
The
female of paradise will be 33 years old like the men of paradise.
The
female of paradise doesn't defecate or menstruate
They
will be so beautiful like preserved pearls
Their
breast will be huge
And
young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age; (An-Naba 78:33)
These
females of paradise only look at their husband and love their husband alone
Wherein
both will be those (maidens) restraining their glances upon their husbands,
whom no man or jinn yatmithhunna (has opened their hymens with sexual
intercourse) before them. (Ar-Rahman 55:56)
Then
which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny?
(Ar-Rahman 55:57)
(In
beauty) they are like rubies and coral. (Ar-Rahman 55:58)
Then
which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny?
(Ar-Rahman 55:59)
These
women's beauty is like rubies and pearls.
The
ulama use this ayah to say that the jinn have intercourse.
But it
is haram for humans to marry jinns
Ibn
Taimiya said, “Humans and jinn have gotten married and have had children; this
has happened often and is well-known.” (Majmoo Fatwa, vol 19: p 39)
AYAH 24
A
reward for what they used to do. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:24)
AYAH 25
No
Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful
speech (like backbiting, etc.). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:25)
There will be no empty talk in paradise.
There will be no backbiting in paradise
If you
have a wife who doesn’t backbite, tale-bear etc
You
should not divorce her because she is a good muslim
Where
they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, (Al-Ghashiyah 88:11)
There
is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah
(charity in Allah's Cause), or Ma'ruf (Islamic Monotheism and all the good and
righteous deeds which Allah has ordained), or conciliation between mankind, and
he who does this, seeking the good Pleasure of Allah, We
shall give him a great reward. (An-Nisa 4:114)
AYAH 26
But
only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace) ! (Al-Waqi'ah 56:26)
There
will be spreading of salam in paradise.
Salam
alaykum is the greeting of dunya and paradise.
Allah
(swt) Himself will greet you with as salam alaykum.
(It
will be said to them) : Salamun (peace be on you), a Word from the Lord
(Allah), Most Merciful. (Ya-Sin 36:58)
AYAH 27
And
those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? (Al-Waqi'ah
56:27)
They are
the people who will receive their record on their right hand.
AYAH 28
(They
will be) among thornless lote-trees, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:28)
AYAH 29
Among
Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:29)
The
banana is one of the fruit of paradise
The
pomegranate, the fig, the date are all fruits of paradise
AYAH 30
In
shade long-extended, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:30)
AYAH 31
By
water flowing constantly, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:31)
AYAH 32
And
fruit in plenty, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:32)
AYAH 33
Whose
season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:33)
The
fruits are within reach
You
don’t have to climb the tree to reach them
AYAH 34
And on
couches or thrones, raised high. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:34)
AYAH 35
Verily,
We have created them (maidens) of special creation. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:35)
AYAH 36
And
made them virgins. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:36)
The
women of the dunya fancy other men other than their husbands
They
have affairs with other men
But the
women of paradise will only look at their husbands
Wherein
both will be those (maidens) restraining their glances upon their husbands,
whom no man or jinn yatmithhunna (has opened their hymens with sexual
intercourse) before them. (Ar-Rahman 55:56)
AYAH 37
Loving
(their husbands only), equal in age. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:37)
Hasan
Basri (RA) says that an old woman came to Rasoolullah (SAW) and made a request,
O’ Messenger of Allah make Dua that Allah grants me entrance into Jannah.
Rasoolullah (SAW) replied, O’ Mother, an old woman cannot enter Jannah. That
woman started crying and began to leave. Rasoolullah (SAW) said, Say to the
woman that one will not enter in a state of old age, but Allah will make all
the women of Jannah young virgins. Allah Ta’aala says, Lo! We have created them
a (new) creation and made them virgins, lovers, equal in age. (Surah Waaqi’ah,
35-37). [Shamaa-il Tirmidhi, Ch35, Hadith #230]
And
young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age; (An-Naba 78:33)
AYAH 39
A
multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who
embraced Islam). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:39)
AYAH 40
A
multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later generations.
(Al-Waqi'ah 56:40)
Even
though the tabi’e didn’t meet the rasul (saw)
They
have attained status that qualify them to be among the people of right hand
The
rasul (saw) refered the muslims who didn’t meet him as his brothers
And he
wished to meet them
Anas
Ibn Malik (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: I wish that I
could meet my brothers. The Sahabah asked: Are we not your brothers? He replied:
You are my companions, but my brothers are those who will believe in me without
having seen me. (Ahmed)
AYAH 41
And
those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:41)
AYAH 42
In
fierce hot wind and boiling water, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:42)
AYAH 43
And
shadow of black smoke, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:43)
AYAH 44
(That
shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:44)
AYAH 45
Verily,
before that, they indulged in luxury, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:45)
AYAH 46
And
were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah,
committing murders and other crimes, etc.)[] (Al-Waqi'ah 56:46)
AYAH 47
And
they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then
indeed be resurrected? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:47)
These
are the ones who committed shirk and murder and other crimes.
Those
who denied the day of judgement is because they are evil personified.
Most of
the jews in Israel are atheist
These
people who deny the resurrection are giving themselves false hope
AYAH 48
"And
also our forefathers?" (Al-Waqi'ah 56:48)
AYAH 49
Say (O
Muhammad SAW) : "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times.
(Al-Waqi'ah 56:49)
The
knowledge of when is the day of judgement is only with Allah (swt)
We know
is on a Friday and that it will be in Jerusalem
“And when is the Hour?” He said, “The one who
is questioned does not know more about it than the one who asks.” He asked,
“Then what are its Signs?” He said, “That a maid-servant will beget her
mistress and that you see barefooted, naked-bodied, helpless shepherds
construct tall buildings.”... [Bukhari 47, Muslim 4, Tirmidhi 2619, Abu Dawud
4695, Nisai 5005,Ibn Majah 63, Ahmed 184]
Abu
Dhar Al-Ghiffari said, "Messenger of Allah, which is better, the prayers
in this mosque of yours or the prayers in (the mosque) of Jerusalem?" The
Prophet ~ said, "Prayers in my mosque are better than four prayers in
Jerusalem, though it is the best place to pray, for it is the land of
Resurrection. A time will come when if a man can see Jerusalem through the loop
with which he hangs his whip [i.e. it is very close to him], it will be better
for him than all the pleasures of this world." [insert takreej]
AYAH 50
"All
will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day.
(Al-Waqi'ah 56:50)
But of
that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father
only. (Matthew 24:36) King James Version
