(NOTES & AUDIO) Tafsir Surah Al ' Araf - Part 10 - When Good Comes To You Is From Allah SWT

Tafsir Surah Al 'Araf - Part 10 - When Good Comes To You Is From Allah SWT
By Shaikh Abdullah Faisal

Wednesday 1st October 2014

And We sent no Prophet unto any town (and they denied him), but We seized its people with suffering from extreme poverty (or loss in wealth) and loss of health and calamities, so that they might humiliate themselves (and repent to Allah (swt)). (Al-A'raf 7:94)

This ayah is saying that natural disasters are a result of your sins

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah (swt) (SAW) turned to us and said: 'O Muhajirin, there are five things with which you will be tested, and I seek refuge with Allah (swt) lest you live to see them: Immorality never appears among a people to such an extent that they commit it openly, but plagues and diseases that were never known among the predecessors will spread among them. They do not cheat in weights and measures but they will be stricken with famine, severe calamity and the oppression of their rulers. They do not withhold the Zakah of the wealth, but rain will be withheld from the sky, and were it not for the animals, no rain would fall on them. They do not break the covenant with Allah (swt) and His Messenger, but Allah (swt) will enable their enemies to overpower them and take some of what is in their hands. Unless their leaders rule according to the Book of Allah (swt) and seek all good from that which Allah (swt) has revealed, Allah (swt) will cause them to fight one another. [Sunan Ibn Majah (Arabic/English), Vol. 5, pg. 222-223, Hadith #4019]

The people of Shuayb started cheating with measures and weights
The hadith above proves to you that when you dabble in sins you will suffer consequences
For every action there is a reaction

Hadith: Man suffers poverty because of the sins he commits below:

It was narrated from Thawban that the Messenger of Allah (swt) (SAW) said: "Nothing increases one's life span except righteousness and nothing repels the Divine decree except supplication, and a man may be deprived of provision by a sin that he commits."' [Sunan Ibn Majah (5/152) No. 4022, Musnad Ahmad (5/277) No. 22440, Mustadrak al-Haakim (1/670) No. 1814, Sahih Ibn Hibban (3/153) No. 872, al-Sunan al-Kubra al-Nasa'i (10/380) No. 11775]

Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]. (Ar-Rum 30:41)

Then We changed the evil for the good, until they increased in number and in wealth, and said: "Our fathers were touched with evil (loss of health and calamities) and with good (prosperity, etc.)." So We seized them of a sudden while they were unaware. (Al-A'raf 7:95)

This ayah says that whenever you make taubah and return to the straight path
Allah (swt) will change the evil state to a good state
If the tawbah was sincere, Allah (swt) will change the bad to good

Except those who repent and believe (in Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah (swt) will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah (swt) is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al-Furqan 25:70)

This shows how generous Allah (swt) is that He will change your sins into pious deeds

And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwa (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.). (Al-A'raf 7:96)

It is worthy of mentioning that this ayah is saying that when good comes
It is from Allah (swt), and when bad comes it is from your own doing
Therefore you have no one to blame but yourself

Whatever of good reaches you, is from Allah (swt), but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself. And We have sent you (O Muhammad SAW) as a Messenger to mankind, and Allah (swt) is Sufficient as a Witness. (An-Nisa 4:79)

So when bad come, you can only blame yourself
The towns that Allah (swt) is talking about are the people of Noah (as) and Ad (as)
And the people of Salih (as) and the people of Prophet Lut, Shuayb (as)
Allah (swt) said if they had believed He would have opened for them blessings
-from the heavens and earth
It is worthy of mentioning that if you are in a pathetic state,
Allah (swt) will not remove your adversity until you return to Allah (swt)
And if you are experiencing prosperity, Allah (swt) will never take away that prosperity
And replace it with adversity unless you abandon your religion

Verily! Allah (swt) will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah (swt)). (Ra'd 13:11)

Did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment by night while they are asleep? (Al-A'raf 7:97)

Allah (swt) punished these people with various punishments
Aad (as) – by Fierce Wind,
Nuh (as) - flood,
Lut (as) – stones from the sky
Shuaib (as) - Earthquake

Did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment by night while they are asleep? (Al-A'raf 7:97)

Allah (swt) here is talking about the people of Aad, they were punished by night
But Allah (swt) said that the wind continued for 7 days and 8 nights
Their crime was shirk just like the people of Nuh

Or, did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment in the forenoon while they play? (Al-A'raf 7:98)

Allah (swt) is saying that He punish as He pleases
Some by night and others by day

“Anas (RA) says, “I went into the presence of Aishah (RA) whilst someone else was seated with her. The person asked, ‘O Mother of the believers, relate to us regarding earthquakes (as to their cause)’ She turned her face away. I (Anas) asked her, ‘Relate to us regarding earthquakes, O Mother of the believers!’ She said, “O Anas, if I were to inform you thereof, you will live a sorrowful life and you will die in this state of grief and you will be raised on the Day of Judgement whilst this fear is in your heart.” I said, “O Mother, relate to me.” She then said, “When a woman removes her clothes in a house other than her husbands (an indication towards adultery), she tears the veil between her and Allah (swt). When she applies perfume to please a male other than her husband, this will be a source of fire and a blemish for her. When the people then begin to commit adultery, consume alcohol and use musical instruments, Allah (swt) becomes enraged above the heavens and orders the Earth to shake them. If they repent and refrain, then it is good for them, otherwise Allah (swt) will cause it to fall upon them.” I asked, “Is this their punishment?” She said, “It is rather a mercy, means of blessings and admonishment for the believers, and a punishment, display of anger and torment for the unbelievers.” [Mustadrak al-Haakim (4/561) No. 8575 and Kitab Al-Fitan (2/619) No. 1729]

Allah (swt) is hereby saying to the people of the town ‘do you feel secure against the plan of Allah (swt)?’

Did they then feel secure against the Plan of Allah (swt). None feels secure from the Plan of Allah (swt) except the people who are the losers. (Al-A'raf 7:99)

People are sinful because they have no fear of Allah (swt)'s punishment
Some men don't commit zina because they fear suffering a heart attack on the act
Allah (swt)'s plan in this ayah is Allah (swt)'s punishment
Allah (swt) asked the same question in the verses below:

Do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah (swt)), will not cause the earth to sink with you, then behold it shakes (as in an earthquake)? (Al-Mulk 67:16)

Or do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah (swt)), will not send against you a violent whirlwind? Then you shall know how (terrible) has been My Warning? (Al-Mulk 67:17)

Allah (swt) is addressing the sinners
Because they sin with impunity and immunity
What if Allah (swt) sends to you an earthquake while you are in a nightclub?
You will be resurrected in that state

AYAH 100

Is it not clear to those who inherit the earth in succession from its (previous) possessors, that had We willed, We would have punished them for their sins. And We seal up their hearts so that they hear not? (Al-A'raf 7:100)

Allah (swt) is saying here that you should learn from your mistakes
A wise man learns from his mistakes
But the wiser man learns from the mistakes of others
And shuns making those same mistakes
The people of Hud (as) did not learn from the mistakes of the people of Nuh. Why?
The people of Salih did not learn from the mistakes made by the people of Hud. Why?
Because the people of Nuh, Hud and Salih were mushrikeen
They should have learned from the mistakes of others
Because there is no change in the sunnah of Allah (swt)

Then, can they expect anything (else), but the Sunnah (way of dealing) of the peoples of old? So no change will you find in Allah (swt)'s Sunnah (way of dealing), and no turning off will you find in Allah (swt)'s Sunnah (way of dealing). (Fatir 35:43)

Allah (swt)'s sunnah is to destroy the wayward
All these so-called superpowers, we say to you wait for Allah (swt)'s chastisement
Because Allah (swt) always destroy the wayward and His sunnah cannot be changed

AYAH 101

Those were the towns whose story We relate unto you (O Muhammad SAW). And there came indeed to them their Messengers with clear proofs, but they were not such as to believe in that which they had rejected before. Thus Allah (swt) does seal up the hearts of the disbelievers (from each and every kind of religious guidance). (Al-A'raf 7:101)

Allah (swt) seals the heart of a person after he was exposed to Islam
But then rejected it after he realised it was the truth in the name of pride
Allah (swt) will never seal the heart of a man until he gives him ample opportunity
To receive the message and this is because Allah (swt)'s justice is perfect

So when they turned away (from the Path of Allah (swt)), Allah (swt) turned their hearts away (from the Right Path). And Allah (swt) guides not the people who are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah (swt)). (As-Saff 61:5)

Allah (swt) will never seal your heart until you hear the message

Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him) warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe. (Al-Baqarah 2:6)

Allah (swt) has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from accepting Allah (swt)'s Guidance), and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment. (Al-Baqarah 2:7)

Allah (swt) said there is a covering on their eyes
The real blind man is the one who is spiritually blind, not physically blind

(The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, ('Abasa 80:1)
Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). ('Abasa 80:2)
But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? ('Abasa 80:3)
Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? ('Abasa 80:4)
As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, ('Abasa 80:5)
To him you attend; ('Abasa 80:6)
What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah (swt)). ('Abasa 80:7)
But as to him who came to you running. ('Abasa 80:8)
And is afraid (of Allah (swt) and His Punishment), ('Abasa 80:9)
Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, ('Abasa 80:10)

The blind man took his shahada because he was not blind in his heart
My shaikhs told me that this blind man used to go to jihad
He carried the flag for the Muslims
Shia say that Muhammad (saw) didn't frown but it was Abu Jahl
They have their own tafsir, hadiths, history
They put a spin on history
Reza Aslan said he is a scholar of Islam
He said Jesus (as) was crucified and the Quran got it wrong
Suhaib Webb believes in gay marriages
He also says he is a scholar
Hamza Yusuf believes Muhammad (saw) is alive in his grave and you can pray to him

Anas ibn Malik (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (swt) (SAW) said, ‘The time of the Dajjal will be years of confusion. People will believe a liar, and disbelieve one who tells the truth. People will distrust one who is trustworthy, and trust one who is treacherous; and the Ruwaybidah will have a say.’ Someone asked, ‘Who are the Ruwaybidah?’ He said, ‘Those who rebel against Allah (swt) and will have a say in general affairs.’” [Musnad Ahmad (3/220) No. 13322]

Only one nation saw the chastisement of Allah (swt) coming and believe
After they believed, Allah (swt) lifted the chastisement
They were the people Yunus (as)

Was there any town (community) that believed (after seeing the punishment), and its Faith (at that moment) saved it (from the punishment)? (The answer is none,) - except the people of Yunus (Jonah); when they believed, We removed from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the (present) world, and permitted them to enjoy for a while. (Yunus 10:98)

Prophet Yunus (as) was in Mosul (Iraq)

AYAH 102

And most of them We found not (true) to their covenant, but most of them We found indeed Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah (swt)). (Al-A'raf 7:102)

The covenant Allah (swt) is talking about is when He took you from the loins of Adam

And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] - Lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware." (Al-A'raf 7:172) Sahih International

When you do shirk, you broke the covenant
Most people are NOT sincere and did not keep the covenant
They broke the covenant because they dabble in shirk
Allah (swt) told the prophet (saw) that most people will not believe

And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly. (Yusuf 12:103)

Those who claim to believe most of them commit shirk

And most of them believe not in Allah (swt) except that they attribute partners unto Him [i.e. they are Mushrikun -polytheists - see Verse 6: 121]. (Yusuf 12:106)

Most Muslims commit shirk because they believe in democracy,
They believe in made up laws like the kafir court house and some of them pray to graves
The shariah is an amana (trust) and when you don’t implement the sharia
You broke the covenant
Allah (swt) said He gave the amana to the mountains and they rejected it
Man accepted it because man is foolish

Truly, We did offer AlAmanah (the trust or moral responsibility or honesty and all the duties which Allah (swt) has ordained) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid of it (i.e. afraid of Allah (swt)'s Torment). But man bore it. Verily, he was unjust (to himself) and ignorant (of its results). (Al-Ahzab 33:72)

Allah (swt) warns us that the majority of people will be evil
So we do not follow the majority; we follow the Quran and Sunnah

And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah (swt)'s Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie. (Al-An'am 6:116)

And indeed Iblis (Satan) did prove true his thought about them, and they followed him, all except a group of true believers (in the Oneness of Allah (swt)). (Saba' 34:20)

The majority of people follow Iblees
Iblees predicted that the majority of people will be in his camp
His prediction came to pass

[Iblis (Satan)] said: "See? This one whom You have honoured above me, if You give me respite (keep me alive) to the Day of Resurrection, I will surely seize and mislead his offspring (by sending them astray) all but a few!" (Al-Isra 17:62)

All follow him except a few as mentioned in the above verse
So Allah (swt) said the prediction of Iblees came to pass

And indeed Iblis (Satan) did prove true his thought about them, and they followed him, all except a group of true believers (in the Oneness of Allah (swt)). (Saba' 34:20)

We don't follow the majority

We follow Quran and Sunnah
