AYAH 150

And when Musa (Moses) returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said: "What an evil thing is that which you have done (i.e. worshipping the calf) during my absence. Did you hasten and go ahead as regards the matter of your Lord (you left His worship)?" And he threw down the Tablets and seized his brother by (the hair of) his head and dragged him towards him. Harun (Aaron) said: "O son of my mother! Indeed the people judged me weak and were about to kill me, so make not the enemies rejoice over me, nor put me amongst the people who are Zalimun (wrong-doers)." (Al-A'raf 7:150)

Many lessons can be learned from this ayah

Lesson 1: Prophets have emotions like everyone else
This is demonstrated when Prophet Musa (as) became angry
When the people worshipped the golden calf

Lesson 2: Shirk causes anger and hatred among people
- This is why Musa (as) reacted in this manner
- Abraham (as) also said to his people there will be enmity between him and them
- until they worship Allah (swt) alone

Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim (Abraham) and those with him, when they said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah, we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you, hostility and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allah Alone," (Al-Mumtahinah 60:4)

Lesson 3: Jews gravitate towards shirk

- The Prophet called some Jews mushrik at the battle of Badr

Al-Zayla`y reported, that it is reported by Al-Fadl ibn Musa from Muhammad ibn `Amr ibn `Alqamah from Sa`id ibn Al-Mundhir on the authority of Abu Humayd Al-Sa`idy who said, When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out on the day of Uhud and passed Thaniyyat-ul-Wada`, he looked behind him and there appeared a squadron. He (peace be upon him) inquired, "Who are these?" It was said, "This is `Abdullah ibn Ubay ibn Salul and his Jewish fellows; they are the allies of `Abdullah ibn Salam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "Have they embraced Islam?" They said, "No, they still hold to their religion." The Prophet replied, "Tell them to go back. Verily, we do not seek the help of the Mushriks against other Mushriks." [Recorded by Ishaq Ibn Rahawayh in his Musnad]

- He called them Mushriks because of 9:31

They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah), and (they also took as their Lord) Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded [in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)) to worship none but One Ilah (God - Allah) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)[]. Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him)." (At-Tawbah 9:31)

Lesson 4: Jews are very ungrateful
- Allah (swt) saved them from the Pharaoh yet they worshipped the golden calf

Lesson 5: People go astray when a strong personality is no longer there to guide them
- Musa (as) had a stronger personality than Harun (as)
- When Musa (as) went to speak to Allah (swt), they went astray

Lesson 6: To see something with your eyes is stronger evidence than to hear about it
- When you see something with your eyes it is called Ain ul Yaqeen
- Ain ul Yaqeen is when you see an incident with your two eyes
- When he saw the people worshipping the calf he threw the tablets down
- he knew about it already because Allah told him
- he didn’t throw tablets then but he did when he saw them

(Allah) said: "Verily! We have tried your people in your absence, and As-Samiri has led them astray." (Ta-Ha 20:85)

May Allah grant His mercy to Musa! Surely, he who observes something is nothing like he who is informed about it. His Lord, the Exalted and Most Honored, told him that his people were tested after him, but he did not throw the Tablets. When he saw them with his eyes, then he threw the Tablets. [Ibn Abi Hatim]

Lesson 7: Jews are very hard hearted

Then, after that, your hearts were hardened and became as stones or even worse in hardness. And indeed, there are stones out of which rivers gush forth, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which split asunder so that water flows from them, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do. (Al-Baqarah 2:74)

- Allah spoke about them in the above ayah

Lesson 8: Musa (as) and Harun (as) were full brothers
- Yet he said, O son of my mother. Why?
- When you are from the same womb as a another person,
- there is no doubt that you are siblings
- The womb is the most excellent evidence to establish that you are siblings
- the mother’s side is merciful side of the parents

[Musa (Moses)] said: "O Harun (Aaron)! What stopped you when you saw them going astray; (Ta-Ha 20:92)
"That you followed me not (according to my advice to you)? Have you then disobeyed my order?" (Ta-Ha 20:93)
He [Harun (Aaron)] said: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard, nor by my head! Verily, I feared lest you should say: 'You have caused a division among the Children of Israel, and you have not respected my word!' " (Ta-Ha 20:94)

Lesson 9: Pagans are prepared to kill for their shirk
- Harun (as) tried to stop them from worshipping the calf
- but they were about to kill him for that

Harun (Aaron) said: "O son of my mother! Indeed the people judged me weak and were about to kill me, so make not the enemies rejoice over me, nor put me amongst the people who are Zalimun (wrong-doers)." (Al-A'raf 7:150)

Lesson 10: The people of baatil like to see the people of haqq fight among themselves
- therefore, Harun told Musa (as) not to punish him
- because they are going to laugh at them

….so make not the enemies rejoice over me, nor put me amongst the people who are Zalimun (wrong-doers)." (Al-A'raf 7:150)

A prophet punishing another prophet would make the hypocrites happy

Lesson 11: When people judge you as weak they take liberties

…..Harun (Aaron) said: "O son of my mother! Indeed the people judged me weak and were about to kill me, (Al-A'raf 7:150)

AYAH 151

Musa (Moses) said: "O my Lord! Forgive me and my brother, and make us enter into Your Mercy, for you are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy." (Al-A'raf 7:151)

Prophets do not commit sin
Musa (as) killed a man by accident
So why is he asking for forgiveness if Prophets don't sin?
Allah (swt) allows the prophets to make mistakes so that you do not worship them

AYAH 152

Certainly, those who took the calf (for worship), wrath from their Lord and humiliation will come upon them in the life of this world. Thus do We recompense those who invent lies. (Al-A'raf 7:152)

The ayah is saying that anyone who worships idols will have no honor
Izza (honor) belongs to the believer

But honour, power and glory belong to Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not. (Al-Munafiqun 63:8)

Because hypocrites do not know where honor comes from
They give their wala to the US, the UK or NATO
The house of SAUD will be disgraced as well
Allah (swt) says if you worship a false deity, you will be disgraced

AYAH 153

But those who committed evil deeds and then repented afterwards and believed, verily, your Lord after (all) that is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al-A'raf 7:153)

This ayah means no Muslim is supposed to give up from Allah's mercy
Regardless of how sinful you are
Because Allah (swt) will forgive all sins as long as you make taubah before you die
Allah forgives even major shirk if you make taubah before you die

Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Az-Zumar 39:53)

Only the Khawaarij gives up on Allah's mercy
ALL means ALL in the above ayah. Even SHIRK
Provided you make taubah before you die
Even Prophet Jacob (as) said it is only the kafiroon who despair

"O my sons! Go you and enquire about Yusuf (Joseph) and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah's Mercy. Certainly no one despairs of Allah's Mercy, except the people who disbelieve." (Yusuf 12:87)

One day a man ask ibn Masood (ra) about a man fornicating with a girl
And then marrying her
He answered that it is neither haram nor halal but it is up to him
For if he repent from his zina and wants to make amends
There should be nothing wrong in it inshaAllah

Abdullah bin Mas`ud was asked about a man committing fornication with a woman and then marrying her, and Ibn Mas`ud recited this Ayah: 'But those who committed evil deeds and then repented afterwards and believed, verily, your Lord after (all) that is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.' Abdullah recited this Ayah ten times, neither allowing nor disallowing it. [Ibn Abi Hatim]

But those who committed evil deeds and then repented afterwards and believed, verily, your Lord after (all) that is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al-A'raf 7:153)

Except those who repent and believe (in Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Al-Furqan 25:70)

Here Allah (swt) is saying He will change your sins into good deeds
So don't give up on Allah's mercy

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger having said: “By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would have pardoned them.” [Sahih Muslim (4/2106) No. 2749]

AYAH 154

And when the anger of Musa (Moses) was appeased, he took up the Tablets, and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who fear their Lord. (Al-A'raf 7:154)

Musa threw down the tablets because he thought they were evil to the core
He was fed up
How could they live by the tablets when they are evil to the core?
When his anger subsided he picked up the tablets
This proves that Prophets become angry just like everyone else
Many Prophets became angry
Even the Prophet Muhammad (saw) became angry
But he only became angry for the sake of Allah

Once the Prophet was accompanied on a journey by Safiyyah and Zainab bint Jahsh when Safiyyah' s camel went lame. Zainab had an extra camel and the Prophet asked her if she would give it to Safiyyah. Zainab retorted, "Should I give to that Jewess!" The Prophet turned away from her in anger and would not have anything to do with her for two or three months to show his disapproval of what she had said.

'A'ishah said: The camel of Safiyyah bint Huyayy was fatigued, and Zainab had a surplus mount. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to Zainab: Give her the camel. She said: Should I give to that Jewess? Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (SAW) became angry and kept away from her during Dhu al-Hijjah, Muharram, and a part of Safar. [Sunan Abu Dawud (4/199) No. 4602] (Daeef)

'A'isha reported that Quraysh were concerned with the case of a Makhzumi woman who had stolen something and they said, "Who will speak to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) about her?" They said, "Who is bold enough to do it except Usama ibn Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah?" Usama spoke to him and the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "How can you intercede when it is a case of one of the legal punishments of Allah Almighty?" Then he stood up and spoke and said, "Those before you were destroyed because when a noble among them stole, they let him be, but when the weak among them stole, they carried out the legal punishment on them. By Allah, if Fatima the daughter of Muhammad were to steal, I would cut off her hand." [al-Bukhari (3475) and Muslim (1688)]

As a Muslim you have to become angry sometimes
Ex. If you left your home to a friend and he turned it into a brothel while you were away, wouldn't you become angry?

The anger of Musa (as) subsided
In order for you (the Muslim) to make your anger to be subsided you should do the following:

1. Make wudu
2. Sit down if you were standing
3. Make salah

You make wudu because anger is from the shaitan and the shaitan is made from fire
So the water cools down the anger (heat)

Atiyyah as-Sa'di reported the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when one of you becomes angry, he should perform ablution. [Sunan Abu Dawud (4/249) No. 4784 and Musnad Ahmad (4/226) No. 18014]

AYAH 155

And Musa (Moses) chose out of his people seventy (of the best) men for Our appointed time and place of meeting, and when they were seized with a violent earthquake, he said: "O my Lord, if it had been Your Will, You could have destroyed them and me before; would You destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us? It is only Your Trial by which You lead astray whom You will, and keep guided whom You will. You are our Wali (Protector), so forgive us and have Mercy on us, for You are the Best of those who forgive. (Al-A'raf 7:155)

Allah (swt) stroke them down and killed them
Because they said something inappropriate

And (remember) when you said: "O Musa (Moses)! We shall never believe in you till we see Allah plainly." But you were seized with a thunderbolt (lightning) while you were looking. (Al-Baqarah 2:55)

Allah (swt) killed these 70 companions of Musa (as)
Their imaan was weak
The companions of Muhammad (saw) were better than the companions of Musa (as)

Narrated By Abdullah (bin Masud): On the day of Badr, Al-Miqdad said, "O Allah's Apostle! We do not say to you as the children of Israel said to Moses, 'Go you and your Lord and fight you two; we are sitting here, (5.24) but (we say). "Proceed, and we are with you." That seemed to delight Allah's Apostle greatly. [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 6, Book 60, Hadith #133]

Musa's companions said they would never believe unless they saw Allah
Allah (swt) brought them back to life after killing them with lightning

The best generation is the generation of the Prophet Muhammad (saws)

Narrated By 'Abdullah : The Prophet said, "The best people are those of my generation, and then those who will come after them (the next generation), and then those who will come after them (i.e. the next generation), and then after them, there will come people whose witness will precede their oaths, and whose oaths will precede their witness." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 8, Book 76, Hadith #437]

Imam Shafi (rh) has at least 400 Million followers
1 scholar from the Ummah of Muhammad (saw) has more followers than Prophet Musa (as)
500 Million follow Abu Hanifa
The Maliki followers are at least 400 Million

You [true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW and his Sunnah (legal ways, etc.)] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah.
(Aali Imran 3:110)

AYAH 156

And ordain for us good in this world, and in the Hereafter. Certainly we have turned unto You." He said: (As to) My Punishment I afflict therewith whom I will and My Mercy embraces all things. That (Mercy) I shall ordain for those who are the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2), and give Zakat; and those who believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs and revelations, etc.); (Al-A'raf 7:156)

Allah (swt) mentioned taqwah in the above ayah
Taqwa is to place between yourself and the wrath of Allah (swt) a barrier
By abstaining from what is wrong (haram) and doing what is fard

On the authority of Suhail bin Abi Saleh from his father: ‘A man once asked Abu Hurayrah (RA), ‘What is al taqwa?” He replied, “Have you ever taken a path filled with thorns?” The man replied, “I have.” Abu Hurayrah asked him, “What did you do?” He replied, “When I saw a thorn I would dodge it or pass over it or behind it.” Abu Hurayrah said, “That is al-taqwa
[Al-Zuhd al-Kabir al-Bayhaqi (p350-351) No. 963]

Allah (swt) also mentioned zakat in the ayah
The first thing people abandoned when the prophet (saw) died was zakat
It is very difficult to pay zakat because you have to defeat your greed
Taqwa is a prerequisite to pay the zakat
You have muslim women working as prostitutes because people don't pay the zakat
You need to be pious to pay zakat

In the above ayah Allah (swt) also mentions His mercy

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah has one hundred parts of mercy, of which He sent down one between the jinn, mankind, the animals and the insects, by means of which they are compassionate and merciful to one another, and by means of which wild animals are kind to their offspring. And Allah has kept back ninety-nine parts of mercy with which to be merciful to His slaves of the Day of Resurrection.” [Saheeh Muslim, Chapter Al-Tawbah, 6908]

Allah divided His Mercy into 100 parts
He sent 1 part to the dunya and that is what the creation use to have mercy on one another
Allah (swt) will use the 99 parts on judgement day to give to the people of paradise

You should be merciful to the creation

Abdullah ibn Amr (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “Those who are merciful will be given mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth and the One above the heavens will have mercy on you.” [Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 40, Hadith #4941]

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: "My mercy prevails over My wrath." [al-Bukhari (7553), Muslim (2751), Tirmidhi (3543), Ahmad (7297)]
