AYAH 187

They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival? Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None will reveal its time except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly." They ask you as if you are familiar with it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allah, but most of the people do not know." (Al-A’raf 7:187)

- In the above Ayah, Allah is telling us that He alone has knowledge of the hour
- The pagan Arabs use to bombard the Prophet with the question "when is the hour" because they did not believe in it
- They use to question; 'how we could be resurrected after we become bones in our graves?'

And they say, "When is [the fulfillment of] this promise, if you should be truthful?" (Yunus 10:48)

People ask you concerning the Hour. Say," Knowledge of it is only with Allah. And what may make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near." (Al-Ahzab 33:63)

Jabril came to the Prophet (SAW) and asked five questions

Umar (RA) ibn al-Khattab (RA) said that they were with Allah’s Messenger (SAW) when a man came wearing extremely white clothing and deep black hair but signs of a journey could not be detected on him nor could they recognise him as one of them. He came to the Prophet (SAW) and sat down beside him, his knees touching the Prophet’s (SAW). He asked “O Muhammad, what is faith”? He said, “It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers (peace be upon them all), in the Last Day and in Predestination of good and evil.” He asked, “And what is Islam?” He said, ‘It is. to testify that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger (SAW) to establish the Salah, to pay the Zakah, to perform pilgrimage of the House and to fast in Ramadan.’ He asked, “And what is Ihsan”? He said, It is that you worship Allah as though you see Him, for it you cannot see Him, He sees you.” The visitor remarked, “In everything that you have spoken, you spoke truth.” Umar (RA) said that they were surprised at his questioning him and then confirming that he spoke the truth. Next, he asked, “And when is the Hour?” He said, “The one who is questioned does not know more about it than the one who asks.” He asked, “Then what are its Signs?” He said, “That a maid-servant will beget her mistress and that you see barefooted, naked-bodied, helpless shepherds construct tall buildings.” Umar (RA) said that the Prophet (SAW) then met him after three days and said, “Umar (RA) , do you know who the questioner was? He was Jibril come to teach you the basics of your religion.” [Bukhari 47, Muslim 4, Tirmidhi 2619, Abu Dawud 4695, Nisai 5005, Ibn Majah 63, Ahmed 184]

- You and I have lived to see the prediction about the tallest building come to pass because the tallest building is in Dubai

Verily, Allāh! With Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and knows that which is in the wombs. No person knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no person knows in what land he will die. Verily, Allāh is AllKnower, AllAware (of things). (Luqman 31:34)

- Allah Knows five things, so it is inappropriate for a person to ask about these five things
- This knowledge is called the knowledge of the Ghaib and only Allah knows the Ghaib
- Even Isa was asked about the hour by his people

But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. (Matthew 24:36) King James Version

- We use this bible verse to refute the Christians who say: 'Jesus is God'
- If Jesus is God, why doesn't he know when is Judgement Day?

- As for the Hadith about when the man ask the Prophet when is Judgement Day, see hadith:

Narrated By Anas: A bedouin came to the Prophet and said, "O Allah's Apostle! When will The Hour be established?" The Prophet said, "Wailaka (Woe to you), What have you prepared for it?" The bedouin said, "I have not prepared anything for it, except that I love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet said, "You will be with those whom you love." We (the companions of the Prophet) said, "And will we too be so? The Prophet said, "Yes." So we became very glad on that day. In the meantime, a slave of Al-Mughira passed by, and he was of the same age as I was. The Prophet said. "If this (slave) should live long, he will not reach the geriatric old age, but the Hour will be established." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 8, Book 73, Hadith #188]

- This hadith is saying that the slave will die before the hour is established
- Judgement day will come upon the worst of Allah's creation
- No Muslim will be on Earth when Judgement day comes

Ibn Mas'ud added: I heard Allah’s Messenger () saying; (It will be) from among the most wicked people who will be living at the time when the Hour will be established.” [Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 9, Book 88, Hadith 187]

...Heavy is its burden through the heavens and the earth... (Al-A'raf 7:187)

- Two tafsirs for this part of the ayah
1. The knowledge of the Hour will be a burden
- This is why Allah kept the knowledge of the Hour to Himself

2. When the Hour comes, it will cause suffering to the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth
- The scholars gave this verse as their evidence to prove their point

O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the [final] Hour is a terrible thing. (1) On the Day you see it every nursing mother will be distracted from that [child] she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicated; but the punishment of Allah is severe. (Al-Hajj 22:1-2)

Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? (Al-Muzzammil 73:17)

- Also, the scholars brought the above verse as further evidence
- People do not become white in their hair unless they are stressed out

- They say on Judgement Day the sun will overturn and lose its light and the stars will fall
- when the sun loses its light, it will be darkness
- but you will be given light based upon the level of your iman
- the mountains will pass away and be like wool
- the wind will have the mountains blowing
- the sea will be blazing with fire
- Allah spoke about this is 81:1-6

When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] (1) And when the stars fall, dispersing, (2) And when the mountains are removed (3) And when full-term she-camels are neglected (4) And when the wild beasts are gathered (5) And when the seas are filled with flame (At-Takwir 81:1-6)

- The scholars brought a mountain of evidence to prove their point
- that there will be suffering in the heavens and on earth

The Striking Calamity - (1) What is the Striking Calamity? (2) And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity? (3) It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed, (4) And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up. (Al-Qari’ah 101:1-5)

- The above is another argument the scholars use
- People like to brag about climbing Mt Everest
- these mountains will be like wool
- It proves to you the sheer magnitude of how terrifying Judgement Day will be

- The sun will rise from the west instead of the east
- people will run to accept Islam, but it will be too late

On the authority of Abu Huraira the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “The Hour will not begin until the sun rises from the West. When it rises from its place of setting, all people will believe, but on that day ‘no good will it do to a person to believe then, if he believed not before,’ [al-An’aam 6:158].” [al-Bukhari (4635) and Muslim (157)]

- Allah spoke about people who delay embracing Islam in 6:158

Do they [then] wait for anything except that the angels should come to them or your Lord should come or that there come some of the signs of your Lord? The Day that some of the signs of your Lord will come no soul will benefit from its faith as long as it had not believed before or had earned through its faith some good. Say, "Wait. Indeed, we [also] are waiting." (Al-An’am 6:158)

- The Pharaoh took shahada when the sea folded upon him, but it was too late
- There is no benefit in behaving like the Pharaoh
- why do you want to be a loser?

- The Prophet (SAW) said Day of Judgment will come when there is a lot of harj (killing)
- The man who got killed and the man doing the killing doesn't know why

Narrated 'Abdullah and Abu Musa: The Prophet () said,“Near the establishment of the Hour there will be days during which Religious ignorance will spread, knowledge will be taken away (vanish) and there will be much Al-Harj, and Al- Harj means killing." Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 9, Book 88, Hadith 184

- These are some of the signs before the Day of Resurrection
- Another hadith collected by ibn Majah regarding the hour

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: "On the night on which the Messenger of Allah () was taken on the Night Journey (Isra'), he met Ibrahim, Musa and 'Eisa, and they discussed the Hour. They started with Ibrahim, and asked him about it, but he did not have any knowledge of it. Then they asked Musa, and he did not have any knowledge of it. Then they asked 'Eisa bin Maryam, and he said: 'I have been assigned to some tasks before it happens.' As for as when it will take place, no one knows that except Allah. Then he mentioned Dajjal and said: 'I will descend and kill him, then the people will return to their own lands and will be confronted with Gog and Magog people, who will: "swoop down from every mound."[21:96] They will not pass by any water but they will drink it, (and they will not pass) by anything but they will spoil it. They (the people) will beseech Allah, and I will pray to Allah to kill them. The earth will be filled with their stench and (the people) will beseech Allah and I will pray to Allah, then the sky will send down rain that will carry them and throw them in the sea. Then the mountains will turn to dust and the earth will be stretched out like a hide. I have been promised that when that happens, the Hour will come upon the people, like a pregnant woman whose family does not know when she will suddenly give birth.'"[Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 1, Book 36, Hadith 4081]

AYAH 188

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I possess no power of benefit or hurt to myself except as Allah wills. If I had the knowledge of the Ghaib (unseen), I should have secured for myself an abundance of wealth, and no evil should have touched me. I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings unto people who believe." (Al-A’raf 7:188)

- It is worthy of mentioning the scholars used this
- as evidence against the Rafida
- because they claim that their Imams have knowledge of the Ghaib

SHIA HUJJAH: The Imams have knowledge of the past and future; and nothing is hidden from them. ( Al-Kafi vol.1 p.260 )

SHIA HUJJAH: The Imams know when they will die, and they only die by their choice. (Al Kafi vol.1 p.258 )

- At the battle of Badr the Prophet said free the kaafir
- that same man promised he would never kill Muslims again
- but he came back the very next year to kill sahaba
- If the Prophet (SAW) knew the knowledge of the Ghaib he wouldn't have set him free
- How does a scholar refute the Shia?
- The Shia claimed Hassan was poisoned by his enemies.
- if Hassan is one of the 12 Imams and the Imams have knowledge of the Ghaib
- why would Hassan eat the poison?
- This means Hassan committed suicide!
- This is how to checkmate a Shia

- Hussain, (the 3rd Imam of the Shia) walked into a massacre with his family at Karbala (a city in Iraq)
- If Hussain knew the Ghaib, he committed suicide by walking into Karbala
- This is how you checkmate a Shia

- Anyone who claims to have knowledge of the Ghaib is a Mushrik and he is working with the Jinn
- The Prophet (SAW) said when the Jinn return to the earth and pass on the information to the soothsayers
- they mix one truth with 100 lies

Narrated By 'Aisha: Some people asked the Prophet regarding the soothsayers. He said, "They are nothing." They said, "O Allah's Apostle! Some of their talks come true." The Prophet said, "That word which happens to be true is what a Jinn snatches away by stealth (from the Heaven) and pours it in the ears of his friend (the foreteller) with a sound like the cackling of a hen. The soothsayers then mix with that word, one hundred lies." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 9, Book 93, Hadith #650]

- The Prophet (SAW) said anyone who goes to a soothsayer and believe in him, he has rejected faith

Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet (SAW), said “Whoever comes to a fortune-teller and believes him has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (SAW)”. [Musnad Ahmad (Vol. 2, pg. 429) No. 9532 and Mustadrak al-Hakim (Vol. 1, pg. 49) No. 15]

- because the knowledge of the Ghaib belongs to Allah only
- those who claim to have this knowledge are liars and are mushrikeen
- The punishment for the soothsayers is that they should be executed

Jundub (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The hadd (prescribed punishment) for the practitioner of magic is a blow with the sword (i.e., execution)" [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/60) No. 1460, Sunan al-Daraqutni (4/120) No. 3204, Mustadrak al-Haakim (4/401) No. 8073, al-Sunan al-Kabir al-Bayhaqi (8/234) No. 16500, al-Mu'jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (2/161) No. 1665]

AYAH 189

It is He Who has created you from a single person (Adam), and (then) He has created from him his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her. When he had sexual relation with her, she became pregnant and she carried it about lightly. Then when it became heavy, they both invoked Allah, their Lord (saying): "If You give us a Salih (good in every aspect) child, we shall indeed be among the grateful." (Al-A’raf 7:189)

- The above Ayah means that the purpose of marriage is that you should find happiness and comfort in the marriage
- if you are not finding the pleasure in your marriage, you should not stay in that marriage

And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought. (Ar-Rum 30:21)

- The Ayah also means that from the progeny of Adam, there are people who
- when their wives become pregnant they are anxious
- the tafsir is, she didn't realize she was pregnant
- but when she realized she was pregnant, she and her husband prayed to Allah
- their child is not born deformed
- a child who is not rebellious to his parents
- a child who is good in all aspects
- this is the meaning of the word "Salih"
- Salih means a good child in every aspect

- It is worthy of mentioning that these people making the dua were pagans
- who lived in the generation of Nuh, not the generation of Adam
- because the first people to commit shirk were the people of Nuh

Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: "Between Nooh (Noah) and Adam were ten generations, all of them were upon Sharee'ah (law) of the truth, then they differed. So Allah sent prophets as bringers of good news and as warners." [Related by Ibn Jareer at-Tabaree in his tafseer (4/275) No. 4048 and al-Haakim (2/596) No. 4009 who said: "It is authentic according to the criterion of al-Bukhari." Adh-Dhahabe also agreed]

Ibn Katheer (rh) said: Abdullah bin Abbas and several other scholars of Tafsir said that; the first idol worship began when some righteous people died and their people built places of worship over their graves. They made images of them so that they could remember their righteousness and devotion, and thus, imitate them. When time passed, they made statues of them and later on worshipped these idols, naming them after the righteous people: Wadd, Suwa, Yaghuth, Ya`uq and Nasr. After this practice became popular, Allah (swt) sent Nuh as a Messenger, all thanks are due to Him. [Tafseer Ibn Katheer (3/431)]

In spite of them being pagans Allah answered their dua

AYAH 190

But when He gave them a Salih (good in every aspect) child, they ascribed partners to Him (Allah) in that which He has given to them. High be Allah, Exalted above all that they ascribe as partners to Him. (Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol.9, Page 148). (Al-A’raf 7:190)

- Allah answered their dua and blessed them with a Salih child
- The pagans were ungrateful to Allah after He answered their dua and blessed them with a Salih child
- This is man, very ungrateful
- This is similar to 29:65

And when they board a ship, they supplicate Allah, sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, at once they associate others with Him (Al-’Ankabut 29:65)

- Man likes to use people and dump people
- some use you for money, sex, contacts
- I was close to Yusuf Islam when I lived in the UK and people wanted to get close to me because of my friendship

- These people begged for a Salih child and their dua was answered, but they worshipped idols
- The Ayah confirms that Allah will answer the dua of a kafir and a mushrik
- to test him to see if he would come to tawheed or continue with shirk
- sometime I test people; by lending money and they destroy the friendship by not paying back the money is an example
- they burn their bridge and only a fool does this
- these kaafirs burn their bridge with Allah by worshipping idols

AYAH 191

Do they attribute as partners to Allah those who created nothing but they themselves are created? (Al-A’raf 7:191)

- Only the insane will make his own god with his own hands
- they should be sectioned off as mentally ill

AYAH 192

No help can they give them, nor can they help themselves. (Al-A’raf 7:192)

- In Surah 31:11, Allah asked a question:

This is the creation of Allah. So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error. (Luqman 31:11)

- We say to the Jews who worshipped the golden calf
- what did the golden calf do for you?
- Did the golden calf split the sea and rescue you from the Pharaoh?
- Man likes to worship things that can't help him
- The Hindu and Buddhist worship idols also
- because man is ungrateful to his Lord is why he worships idols that can't help him
