How do you know when a sin is major or minor? 

If the punishment of Allah was mentioned, the sin is major for example, the punishment for theft is to cut the right hand of the thief at the wrist, and the punishment for drinking alcohol is 80 lashes.  We know that these two sins are major because their punishments were mentioned. 

A sin is major if the Quran or Hadith says "The curse of Allah is on so and so…”. Likewise, a sin is major if the Quran or Hadith says on the Day of Judgement Allah wont look at so and so or speak to him. 

It is worthy of mentioning that not every major sin is major kufr, this is where the khawaraj went astray. They didn't fine tune their Tawheed. They paint every kufr with the same brush and claim kufr is kufr.  

Drinking alcohol and doing zina are major sins but not major kufr so the Muslim who drinks alcohol or commits zina is still a Muslim. However, if a Muslim does black magic he is no longer a Muslim because black magic is a major kufr that ejects you outside the fold of Islam.

The Khawarij paint every kufr with the same brush and make takfir on Muslims who drink alcohol or commit zina.  This is because they are jahil in regards to matters of tawheed.


Major shirk is to worship a false deity. Whoever dies in a state of committing major shirk has no hope.  Hence, he will be in hell-fire to abide forever. About him, Allah said:

Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin. (An-Nisa: 43)

Because the pagans have no hope in the hereafter, since they die in a state of major shirk, we cannot ask Allah to forgive them, even if they were our parents who died as mushrikeen. Allah forbade the Prophet (saw) to pray and seek forgiveness for his uncle, Abu Talib, who died as a mushrik.  Hence, Allah said:

It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allah's Forgiveness for the Mushrikun (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the Fire (because they died in a state of disbelief). (At-Tawbah: 113)

Also, there is no excuse for the shirk of Ibadah, i.e. worshipping a false deity.  According to the wicked scholars, if a person who worships a false deity in the dunya, Allah will forgive him for his shirk in the Hereafter because while he was worshipping a false deity in the dunya, he was ignorant and did not know better. These wicked scholars are promoting the ideology that there is excuse of ignorance for anyone who worshipped a false deity in the dunya.  The following Quranic verse refutes this claim of the wicked scholars: 

And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam's loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves (saying) : "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Yes! We testify," lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: "Verily, we have been unaware of this." (Al-A'raf: 172)

Allah Took away the excuse of ignorance in the above Ayah. Therefore, the man who worships a false deity in the dunya will abide in hell-fire forever in the Akhira [hereafter]. The following Hadith about the plight of the Prophet’s (saw) father is another evidence to prove that there is no excuse of ignorance for people who worship a false deity:

Narrated from Anas (RA) that a man said: “O Messenger of Allah, where is my father?” He said: “In Hell.” When he turned away he called him back and said: “My father and your father are in Hell.” [Sahih Muslim (Vol. 1, pg. 191) No. 203]  


The practitioners of black magic are infidels outside the fold of Islam, and this is the ijma of the scholars past and present.  The following Quranic verse is the evidence for making takfir on those who dabble in black magic:

Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels, Harut and Marut, but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, "We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us)" And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew. (Al-Baqarah: 102)

It is unfortunate that many Muslims in India, Pakistan, and Africa dabble in black magic and the ulama in their communities did not tell them that magic ejects them outside the fold of Islam.  The Holy Prophet (saw) has commanded us to kill the practitioners of magic in the following Hadith:

Jundub (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The hadd (prescribed punishment) for the practitioner of magic is a blow with the sword (i.e., execution)" [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/60) No. 1460, Sunan al-Daraqutni (4/120) No. 3204, Mustadrak al-Haakim (4/401) No. 8073, al-Sunan al-Kabir al-Bayhaqi (8/234) No. 16500, al-Mu'jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (2/161) No. 1665] 


Murder is to kill a person who is innocent. 

Execution is different to murder. Execution is capital punishment for the criminal. Murder is a major sin; therefore, murder is haram but execution is halal if it is carried out by the Islamic State.  It is haram for a layman to carry out an execution. Only a Qadi in Shariah Court has the authority to pass a verdict for someones execution. About murder, Allah said: 

And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein, and the Wrath and the Curse of Allah are upon him, and a great punishment is prepared for him. (An-Nisa: 93)

When you kill a believer, you take on his sins. Therefore, if this person use to drink alcohol and commit zina these sins of his will be put on your scales on the Day of Recompense because you killed him wrongfully. 

Abdullah Ibn Mas‘ud (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “No soul is killed unlawfully, but there is a share of the sin on the first son of Adam, because he was the first one to set the precedent of killing.” [Related by al-Bukhari (3335) and Muslim (1677)] 


The Arabic word “Riba” means interest. There are two types of interest, quantity and quality. If we swap gold for silver it becomes interest in quality. And if we lend $1000 and charge $1500 in payment it becomes interest in quantity. Allah blesses charity and curses interest.  Interest is a major sin because the curse of Allah is on those who charge interest. When you give charity, Allah will increase your wealth:

Allah will destroy Riba (usury) and will give increase for Sadaqat (deeds of charity, alms, etc.) And Allah likes not the disbelievers, sinners. (Al-Baqarah: 276)

Allah will declare war on those who dabble in riba:

O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah and give up what remains (due to you) from Riba (usury) (from now onward), if you are (really) believers. (Al-Baqarah: 278)

And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly (by receiving less than your capital sums). (Al-Baqarah: 279)

When I was in the University, I asked my shaikh how a person could be fought when the Prophet (SAW) is no longer with us? He said it is the job of the Caliph to wage jihad on people who do riba.

Imam Abu Hanifa (RH) said any country who uses riba is dar ul Harb and he uses the above Ayah as his evidence, i.e. 2:279

Many countries do not send troops to fight Muslims around the world but Imam Abu Hanifa has still categorized them as Dar ul Harb. This is because of their riba system. They use the accumulated wealth to cheat the people.This puts them at war with Allah and makes the country dar ul Harb. Imam Abu Hanifa (RH) said you can bank your money in riba banks if you live in dar ul Harb with the intention to collect riba. The following Hadith explains to the Ummah how grave riba is:

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) said: "Riba has seventy segments, the least serious being equivalent to a man committing adultery with his own mother." [Sunan Ibn Majah (3/337) No. 2274 and Mustadrak al-Haakim (2/43) No. 2259]

Abu Hanifa also said it is permissible to sell alcohol to the kuffar in dar ul Harb. Ahmed ibn Hanbal disagreed with Abu Hanifa regarding Muslims selling alcohol to non Muslims. 


Orphans are vulnerable. Some adults like to take charge of their wealth so as to rob them. When adults rob orphans they are only gaining the Hell-fire for themselves; hence Allah said:

Verily, those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, they eat up only a fire into their bellies, and they will be burnt in the blazing Fire! (An-Nisa: 10)

Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "The best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are well treated. The worst house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are ill treated. I and the guardian of the orphan will be in the Garden like that," indicating his two fingers.  [al-Adab al-Mufrad al-Bukhari No. 137]

Some people only take charge of the orphan's wealth because they have bad intentions.  If a person knows that they are weak in imaan and cannot be trusted, they should stay far away from the orphans wealth. They should not expose themselves to temptation.


This is when you flee the battlefield due to cowardice. If you run away to regroup for a counter attack, that's different and permissible. About this, Allah said:

And whoever turns his back to them on such a day - unless it be a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own), - he indeed has drawn upon himself wrath from Allah. And his abode is Hell, and worst indeed is that destination! (Al-Anfal: 16)

To run away due to cowardice is wrong. But you are allowed to run away from the battlefield as a war tactic. Perhaps you are engaged in a war trick that involves you setting up a trap for the infidels to fall into. This is a stratagem of war and is perfectly halal.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “War is deceit.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 3029; Muslim, 58). 


In many Muslim communities people like to slander others and accuse them of zina. This is because to accuse a person of zina is an effective way to ruin their image.  It is called character assassination. No one is allowed to accuse a Muslim of zina unless he can provide four witnesses to say they saw the pen in the ink.  About this, Allah said:

And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes, and reject their testimony forever, they indeed are the Fasiqun (liars, rebellious, disobedient to Allah). (An-Nur: 4)

Verily, those who accuse chaste women, who never even think of anything touching their chastity and are good believers, are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter, and for them will be a great torment, (An-Nur: 23)

About zina, the Qadi will ask detailed questions, such as, ‘What position they were making love in’ etc etc. Each witness has to have the same story, if not, they will receive 80 lashes for slandering a chaste woman and the case will be thrown out of court. The punishment for slander is 80 lashes. This incident happened during the time Omar when he was the Caliph as detailed in the below Hadith:

The case of Mughirah bin Shu`bah, in which `Umar punished Abu Bakrah and the other two eye-witnesses on the charge of false accusation. A critical study of the entire case shows that this precedent is not applicable to every case where the crime is not proved by proper evidence. The facts of the case are that Mughirah bin Sh u`bah, the Governor of Basrah, did not have good relations with Abu Bakrah, whose house was opposite to his house across the same street. One day the windows of the two houses were opened by a strong current of wind. When 'Abu Bakrah got up to close his window, he saw through the opposite window across the street Mughirah in a state of actual sexual intercourse. He asked three of his friends (Naf`i bin Kaladah, and Shibl bin Ma`bad) who were also sitting with him to stand up and witness what Mughirah was doing. The friends asked him who was the woman. Abu Bakrah. said that she was Umm Jamil. The next day a complaint to this effect was sent to `Umar, who immediately suspended Mughirah and appointed Abu Musa Ash`ari as Governor of Basrah. Mughirah along with the witnesses was called to Al-Madinah. When they were asked about the case, Abu Bakrah said that they had seen Mughirah actually committing sexual intercourse with Umm Jamil, but Ziad said that the woman was not clearly visible and that he could not say definitely whether it was Umm Jamil or not. During the cross examination, Mughirah proved that they could not have seen the woman distinctly from the place where they were standing. He also proved that there was a close resemblance between his wife and Umm Jamil. Besides this, circumstantial evidence also showed that during the Caliphate of `Umar, the governor of a province could not have committed this crime in his official residence, especially when his wife was also living with him. Thus the supposition of Abu Bakrah and his companions that Mughirah was having sexual intercourse with Umm Jamil, instead of his own wife, was nothing but a misplaced suspicion. It was for this reason that `Umar not only acquitted the accused but also punished Abu Bakrah, Naf`i and Shibl as slanderers. It is obvious that this isolated decision was based on the specific circumstances of the case and not on the principle that the witnesses must be' punished when they are not able to prove the charge by their evidence. (For details of this case, see Ahkam al-Qur'an, Ibn al-`Arabi, Vol. II, pp. 88, 89).

Everyday women get killed in Pakistan because people accuse them of zina, they call it honor killing. But no one saw 'the pen in the ink’, so many innocent Muslim girls got killed. Even if a Muslim girl should fornicate, the punishment is 100 lashes, not death. Honor killing is culture and not Shariah.

Stay away from the 7 major sins: Shirk, magic, murder, riba, robbing the orphan, fleeing the battlefield and slandering a pious, believing Muslim woman. 

It was narrated from 'Ubaid bin 'Umair that :His father - who was one of the Companions of the Prophet [SAW] - told him: "A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what are the major sins?' He said: 'They are seven; the most grievous of which are associating others with Allah, killing a soul unlawfully and fleeing (from the battlefield) on the day of the march.'" It is abridged. 
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4012: Vol. 5, Book 37, Hadith 4017 

Narrated Abu-Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him); ‘The Prophet (SAWS) said: “Avoid the seven great destructive sins.” The people enquired; ‘O Allah’s Messenger! What are they?’ The Prophet (SAWS) said: To join others in worship along with Allah, to practise sorcery, to kill the life that Allah has forbidden except for a just cause (according to Islamic law), to eat up usury, to eat up the orphan’s wealth, to show one’s back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting, and to accuse the chaste women, who never even think of anything touching chastity and are good believers.” (Bukhari).


Zakah is the third pillar of Islam, therefore refusing to pay Zakah is a major sin. Hence, Allah said:

And those who hoard up gold and silver [Al-Kanz: the money, the Zakat of which has not been paid], and spend it not in the Way of Allah, -announce unto them a painful torment. (At-Tawbah: 34)

On the Day when that (Al-Kanz: money, gold and silver, etc., the Zakat of which has not been paid) will be heated in the Fire of Hell and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, (and it will be said unto them) :-"This is the treasure which you hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what you used to hoard." (At-Tawbah: 35)

And let not those who covetously withhold of that which Allah has bestowed on them of His Bounty (Wealth) think that it is good for them (and so they do not pay the obligatory Zakat). Nay, it will be worse for them; the things which they covetously withheld shall be tied to their necks like a collar on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is WellAcquainted with all that you do. (Aali Imran: 180)

The Tafsir for Ayah 3:180 is “that which is tied to their necks are snakes”, therefore their wealth will become snakes wrapped around their necks. 

We should know that to withhold Zakah is a major sin because Allah is promising a severe punishment in the above Ayahs for anyone who withholds Zakah. The following Hadith explains further:

Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘Whoever Allah makes wealthy and he does not pay the Zakah due on his wealth, then (on the Day of Resurrection) his wealth will be made in the likeness of a bald-headed poisonous male snake with two black spots over the eyes. The snake will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and proclaim, `I am your wealth, I am your treasure.' The Prophet then recited the Ayah, ‘And let not those who are stingy with that which Allah has bestowed on them of His bounty think that it is good for them. Nay, it will be worse for them), until the end. (Al-Bukhari and Ibn Hibban)

Allah said there are three conditions to accept a revert as a real Muslim 

But if they repent, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, then they are your brethren in religion. (In this way) We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for a people who know. (At-Tawbah: 11)

In the above Ayah, Allah laid down three conditions to accept a revert as a real Muslim. 
  1. Tawbah from kufr and shirk
  2. To perform the salah, and 
  3. Give the zakah 


Fasting during Ramadan is the fourth pillar of Islam. Therefore, anyone who is healthy and strong should fast. If a healthy person refuses to fast he is considered a zindeeq [heretic] according to the correct scholarly opinion. The fatwa below explains further:

Whoever does not fast has abandoned one of the pillars of Islam, and is committing a grave major sin. Indeed some of the salaf were of the view that he is a kaafir [disbeliever] and apostate – we seek refuge with Allaah from that. 

Abu Ya’la narrated in his Musnad from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The bonds of Islam and the bases of religion are three, on which  Islam was founded. Whoever gives up one of them becomes a kaafir thereby and it is permissible to shed his blood: the testimony that there is no god but Allaah, the prescribed prayers and fasting Ramadaan.” 

This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Dhahabi, and as hasan by al-Haythami in Majma’ al-Zawaa’id, 1/48, and by al-Mundhiri in al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, no. 805, 1486. Classed as da’eef by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Da’eefah, no. 94.  

Al-Dhahabi said in al-Kabaa’ir, p. 64. 

Whoever does not fast in Ramadaan without being sick or having any other excuse that allows him not to fast is more evil than the adulterer or drunkard, indeed they doubted his Islam and thought that this was zandaqa [heresy].


Salah is the second pillar of Islam after reciting the shahada.  It is not possible for a person to be a Muslim if they abandon salah.  The following hadiths explain further: 

On the authority of Abu Huraira (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Fast and you will be healthy". [Related by Abu Naeem in 'al-Tibbun al-Nabawee' (1/236) No. 113]

Jabir (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “Between a man (Muslim) and shirk and disbelief lies neglect of salah.” [Sahih Muslim (1/8 No. 82, Sunan Tirmidhi (5/13) No. 2620, Sunan Abu Dawud (4/219) No. 4678, Sunan Ibn Majah (2/181) No. 1078, Sunan An-Nasa'i (1/232) No. 463, Musnad Ahmad (3/370) No. 15021]

Abdullah ibn Shaqiq Uqayli (RA) reported, saying “The companions of Muhummad (SAW) did not regard neglect of any of the deeds as disbelief as they did (neglect) of Salah." [Sunan Tirmidhi (5/14) No. 2622 and Mustadrak al-Haakim (1/4 No. 12 who said it met the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim]

But if they repent, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat, then they are your brethren in religion. (In this way) We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for a people who know. (At-Tawbah: 11)

Imam Shafi said that to abandon Salah does not eject a person outside the fold of Islam.  However, Ahmad Hanbal said “I beg to differ” so he debated Imam Shaffi on this and brought Surah Tawbah Verse 11 as his hujjah during the debate. Ahmad ibn Hanbal won the debate.


Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam.  Hajj is a duty which mankind owes to Allah. Anyone who denies that Hajj is compulsory on him has left the fold of Islam.  The following Ayah explains further:

And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). (Aali Imran: 97)

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) only made hajj once in his lifetime and he was the best Muslim. 

Ali (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said: “He who possess enough food for the trip, a means of transportation to reach to Makkah, and yet does not perform Hajj, then he dies, he would then die as a Jew or a Christian...” [Sunan Tirmidhi (3/176) No. 812, Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Iman' (5/443) No. 3692, Musnad al-Bazzaar (3/87-8 No. 861]


Looking after our parents when they become old is a right which our parents have over us.  To abandon our parents without looking after them, is a grave sin in Islam. The only time we can abandon our parents is if they declare war on Islam. About our parents, Allah said:

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small." (Al-Isra: 23-24)

Today CNN reported that two children tried to kill their parents for insurance money. Car and life insurance are haram. it's called money for nothing. People will kill you for life insurance. they do it everyday to get the money. 

911 call: Brothers drugged parents before trying to kill them:  "I don't know why they've done this, I really don't. I guess they want the insurance money. I'm not really sure.":

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (RA) said: The Prophet (SAW) ascended the minbar and said: “Ameen, ameen, ameen.” It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the minbar and said, ‘Ameen, ameen, ameen.” He said: “Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to me and said: ‘If Ramadan comes and a person is not forgiven, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen. He said: ‘O Muhammad, if both or one of a person’s parents are alive and he does not honour them and he dies, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen. He said: ‘If you are mentioned in a person’s presence and he does not send blessings upon you and he dies, he will enter Hell and Allah will cast him far away. Say Ameen.’ So I said Ameen.” [Sahih Ibn Hibban, (3/18? No. 907 and Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah (3/192) No. 1888] 


You cannot cut the ties with your parents, even if they are kaffir.

Narrated By Jubair bin Mut'im: That he heard the Prophet saying, "The person who severs the bond of kinship will not enter Paradise." [al-Bukhari (5984) and Muslim (2556)]

Would you then, if you were given the authority, do mischief in the land, and sever your ties of kinship? Such are they whom Allāh has cursed, so that He has made them deaf and blinded their sight. (Muhammad: 22-23)

However, if your kafir parents or family members are antagonistic towards Islam, then it is allowed to cut ties with them because Abraham cut ties with his father when he realized that his father was an enemy of Allah. 

And the request of forgiveness of Abraham for his father was only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became apparent to Abraham that his father was an enemy to Allah, he disassociated himself from him. Indeed was Abraham compassionate and patient. (At-Tawbah 9:114)


Sex before marriage is called fornication and to have an extramarital love affair is called adultery. Both are considered major sins, but adultery is worst than fornication. Even though the Arabic word zina covers fornication and adultery, the punishments are different because the punishment for fornication is 100 lashes while the punishment for adultery is stoning to death.

And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Fahishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allah forgives him). (Al-Isra: 32) 

Allah said in the ayah “DO NOT COME NEAR TO ZINA”. Allah did not say do not commit zina. This means we should avoid the avenues that lead to zina. Khalwa [seclusion] is one of the avenues that leads to zina.  About this the Rasool (saw) said:

Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: The Prophet said, "...Whenever a man is alone with a woman the Devil makes a third..." [Musnad Ahmad (1/26) No. 177, Sunan Tirmidhi (4/465) No. 2165, Mustadrak al-Haakim (1/197) No. 387, Sahih Ibn Hibban (12/399) No. 5586, Nasa'i in 'Sunan al-Kubra' (5/387) No. 9219]

Allah Mentioned zina and murder in the Ayah below because whenever a society is filled with zina, murder becomes rife in the society. This is because men kill those who seduce their wives and daughters. 

And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse and whoever does this shall receive the punishment. (Al-Furqan: 68) 

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "An adulterer, at the time he is committing illegal sexual intercourse is not a believer". [al-Bukhari (557 and Muslim (57)]

What did the Prophet (SAW) mean by this Hadith? It means he is not a Mu’min during the act, but he is still a MUSLIM. A Mu’min is on a higher level. There is a difference between a Mu’min and a Muslim. A Muslim may have major weaknesses in his character like zina and khamr, but a Mu’min doesn’t have these major weaknesses as a trait in his character.

“Verily the Muslims (those who submit to Allah in Islam) men and women, the Mu’min (believers) men and women…” (al-Ahzab: 35)

In this ayah, Allah mentions the Muslim and Mu’min together, indicating that there must be a difference between the two. Whenever there is a comparison between Muslim and Mu’min in a single text, then the Emaan of the Mu’min is higher in grades than the Muslim.


Allah created us with the natural instinct to be attracted to the opposite sex. Hence, for us to be attracted to the same sex is an aberration. Homosexuals are enemies of the human race because their lifestyle means the human race will grind to a halt since gays cannot procreate.   About the, Allah said:

And (remember) Lout (Lot), when he said to his people: "Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in the 'Alamīn (mankind and jinns)? "Verily, you practise your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (by committing great sins)." (Al-A'raf: 80-81)

The gay community tried to refute the above Ayah by claiming when they go to bed with their gay partner, they don't practice lust, they practice love. They claim this Ayah is not about them. 

We say to the gay community we present to you the translation of the Ayah by Sahih International which is the correct translation of the Ayah. So how would you refute this Ayah below?

Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.” (Al-A'raf:81)

It’s impossible for you to refute the above mentioned Ayah because for you to have an erection for another man, you need to have a desire which is unholy.

The word "gay Muslim" is an oxymoron because Allah has made takfir on the gay in the Holy Quran. Hence, Allah said:

So We brought out from therein the believers. But We found not there any household of the Muslims except one [i.e. Lout (Lot) and his two daughters]. (Adh-Dhariyat 51:35-36)

Oxymoron = contradictory words that cannot come together because they clash

For example, a ‘Shia Masjid’, a ‘Qadiani Masjid’ or a ‘Gay Masjid’.  Rather, one should use the term ‘temple’ to describe these places of worship. To say ‘Masjid’ is to insult your religion because a Masjid is a place where Allah alone is worshipped.  About this, Allah said:

And the Masaajid are for Allâh (Alone), so invoke not anyone along with Allâh. (Al-Jinn: 18) 

Many Muslims use the phrase Islamic Democracy. This is another oxymoron that has become popular in the Ummah of Muhammad (saw) to the extent where many Muslims are trying to abandon Jihad and use the democratic process to attain power. These Muslims who believe in democracy got a kick in the teeth in Algeria in 1988. Then they got a kick in the teeth again in 2013 in Egypt. Muhammad Morsi thought the way forward was the ballot not the bullet, so he tried to use the democratic process to establish Islam in Egypt. The Muslims got a kick in the teeth twice, yet the Prophet (saw) said:

"A believer is not bitten from the same hole twice.” [Related by al-Bukhari (6133) and Muslim (299]

Anas Ibn Malik narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "A believer is shrewd, sharp and careful." [Quda'ee (d. 454 H) in 'Musnad al-Shihab' (Vol. 1 pg. 107) No. 128]

The great scholar of Islam, Imam Shawkani, wrote a chapter about punishing gays in his book Nayl al-Awtar. Hence, he said:

There is a difference of opinion concerning the punishment for the one who commits sodomy. The following are the opinions that were mentioned by Imam Ash-Shawkani in "Nayl Al-Awtar" , Vol. 7/p122-124. 

1) That he is killed with the sword, then burnt. This is narrated from Abu Bakr and 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib. 

2) That a wall should be collapsed upon him. This was the opinion of 'Umar and 'Uthman. 

3) That he should be thrown from the highest building in the city, then that should be followed up with him being pelted with rocks. This was the opinion of Ibn 'Abbas. 

4) That he is stoned. This is narrated by Al-Bayhaqi from 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Ash-Sha'bi, Az-Zuhri, Malik, Ahmad, Is'haq, and Ash-Shafi'i. 

5) That they are burned. This was narrated by Al-Bayhaqi, that Abu Bakr gathered the Sahabah and 'Ali mentioned this, and the Sahabah agreed upon it. It was also mentioned by Al-Munthiri that it was done by Abu Bakr, 'Ali, 'Abdullah Ibn Az-Zubayr, and Hisham Ibn 'Abdil-Malik. 

6) That he is stoned, then burnt with fire. This is narrated from the Sahabah agreeing upon it in the time of Abu Bakr. 

7) That the punishment is the same as Zina, in that if he is a virgin, he is whipped, and if he is not, then he is stoned. 

That there is no prescribed punishment, rather it is left up to the Imam to perform Ta'zir, and this was narrated from Abu Hanifah, and one narration from Ash-Shafi'i, and others.

Ash-Shawkani refutes the opinion of the punishment being the same as Zina, as well as the opinion that there is only Ta'zir, and supports the opinion that he is killed, but does not appear to specify which way of killing is the strongest. [Imam Ash-Shawkani in "Nayl Al-Awtar" , Vol. 7/p122-124]. 

The reason why the Caliphs burnt the bodies of the gays after killing them was because the families of the gays will argue with you about burying the gay in Muslim graveyards. Abu Bakr and Ali were very wise to burn their bodies.


Lying on Allah or His Rasool (saw) is not an ordinary lie because people who lie on Allah or His Rasool (saw) use these lies to make up a false religion. Therefore, these lies are zandaqa and eject the liar outside the fold of Islam. About lying on Allah, Allah said:

And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allāh, while he is being invited to Islām? And Allāh guides not the people who are Zālimûn (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers) folk. (As-Saff: 7)

Speaking about Allah without any knowledge is also lying on Allah.  Speaking about Allah without any knowledge is also zandaqa. Hence, Allah said:

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are AlFawāhish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allāh for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allāh of which you have no knowledge." (Al-A'raf: 33)

The following Hadith is about lying on the Prophet (saw). The seat that the liar will occupy in the Hell-fire is a permanent seat because the one who lies on the Prophet (saw) deliberately is a kaafir:

Abdullah ibn Amr (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, Convey from me (to the absent) even one verse. And narrate from the Banu Isra’il there is no harm in that. If anyone lies about me deliberately then let him take his seat in Hell.” [Tirmidhi 2678, Ahmed 6496, Bukhari 3461]


He who deceives us is not one of us and this also includes a leader who is deceptive and oppressive towards the people

Abu Hurayra (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), said, "Anyone who carries arms against us is not one of us. Anyone who cheats us is not one of us." [Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith #182]

Even though a leader has weaknesses, you are not allowed to topple him only if you see clear kufr. Justice is important for the continuity and success of every society politically, economically and socially.  In regards to justice, Allah said: 

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allāh, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allāh is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allāh is Ever WellAcquainted with what you do. (An-Nisa: 135)

When you refuse to give testimony or distort the testimony, you can be charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. When you distort  your testimony, it causes the wrong person to be punished for a crime he did not commit. This is the ultimate injustice.

Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah said, “Allah supports the just state even if it is unbelieving, but He does not support the unjust state even if it believes.” [Ibn Taymiyyah, Majmu' Al-Fatawa 28/63]


Luqman was grooming his son to be a dai’e [caller to Islam], and he warned his son against pride and arrogance because this attitude will turn the people away from him and cause his dawah to fail.  Hence, Luqman said to his son: 

"And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allāh likes not each arrogant boaster. (Luqman 31:1

The Holy Prophet (saw) warned his Ummah about pride in the following Hadith:

It Is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Mas'ud that the Apostle of Allah (SAW), observed: He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise. A person (amongst his hearers) said: Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace. Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people. [Sahih Muslim (1/93) No. 91]

Infidels like Nimrod, the Pharaoh, Abu Lahab and Abu Jahl realized Islam was the truth, but they chose to reject Islam and died as kuffar all in the name of pride. These kuffar are now condemned to the Hell-fire to abide forever because of their rejection of Islam. These four infidels had the privilege to meet the most noble Prophets of Allah like Abraham, Moses and Muhammad (saw). In spite of being blessed to meet these noble Prophets and heard the message of Islam from their Holy lips, they chose to reject Islam and die as kuffar all in the name of Pride. The Pharaoh acknowledged in his heart that Musa brought the truth, but he rejected the message in the name of pride. About the Pharaoh, Allah said:

And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof, out of injustice and haughtiness. So see how was the end of the corrupters. (An-Naml 27:14)


Ungratefulness to Allah or the servants of Allah is a major sin that will cause a person to be in the Hell-fire.  This is because a person who is ungrateful is denying Allah’s bounties. The following Hadith explains the seriousness of ungratefulness:

Narrated Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: Once Allah's Messenger went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) on 'Eid-al-Adha or al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands." [Sahih Bukhari (1/6 No. 304]

The Rasool (SAW) saw women as the majority of the inhabitants of hell because they were ungrateful to their husbands. 


The Arabic word khamr means intoxicants. An intoxicant is anything that befogs the mind. Therefore, intoxicants can be solid liquid or gas. To consume intoxicant is a major sin because the person who takes intoxicants receives 80 lashes. Examples of intoxicants include cannabis, marijuana, alcohol, ecstasy, speed, cocaine, heroin, etc.  The hypocrites want to drink alcohol so they claim “as long as I am not drunk at the time of salah I am allowed to drink”. But Allah told us to abstain from alcohol in the following Ayah:

O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, AlAnsāb, and AlAzlām (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitān's (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful. Shaitān (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allāh and from As-Salāt (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain? (Al-Ma'idah 5:90-91)

In the following Hadith the Holy Prophet (saw) told us that whenever a person drinks alcohol he has not Salah for 40 days. 

‘Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “If anyone drinks wine then his salah over forty days are not approved. If he repents then Allah will relent to him. If he reverts (to it), then Allah will not approve his salah over forty days. If he repents, Allah will relent to him but if he reverts (to it) then Allah will not approve his salah over forty days. If he repents then Allah will relent to him. Again, if he reverts the fourth time, Allah will not approve his salah over forty days and if he repents then Allah will not relent to him and He will give him to drink from the river of Khabal.” Someone asked, “O Abu Abdur Rahman! what is the river of Khabal?’ He said, “The pus of the dwellers of the people of fire.” [Sunan Tirmidhi (4/290) No. 1862, Sunan Nasa'i (8/317) No. 5670, Musnad Ahmad (2/35) No. 4917, al-Mu’jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (12/390) No. 13441]

If you drink, you have no salah for 40 days and 40 nights 
This doesn’t mean he is relieved from praying salah
The person who drinks alcohol still has to perform the prayers on time
If he were to delay any of his prayers, he would be committing a grave major sin, which is worse than the sin of drinking alcohol.


Q: aswr, you mentioned that someone who does not make hajj without a valid reason will die as a jew or christian does this mean they will die as kaffir and be in the hellfire forever? 

The person who dies as a Jew or a Christian would have to deny Hajj to be kaafir. The following Ayah explains further:

And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). (Aali Imran 3:97) 

Q: asalam alekum shaikh i saw a video where a kafir couple was doing a dna test to find out if the child was theirs or not, when they got the result that he was not the father they were celebrating, so what is the punishment for adultery in the hereafter and the punishment in this life for it? 

Punishment for adultery is hellfire 
But if you make Tawbah with sincerity you can be forgiven
Allah Forgives all sins, even shirk 
As long as you make Tawbah before you die. Hence, Allah said:

Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Az-Zumar 39:53) 

If you are punished for adultery in the dunya, Allah wont ask you about it in the hereafter 
If you did not, Allah will give you a double punishment in the hereafter

And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse and whoever does this shall receive the punishment. The torment will be doubled to him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein in disgrace; (Al-Furqan 25:68-69) 

Q: is it cutting ties of kinship if your family are far away like if your in the west and your family is in yemen and you can get hold with them? 

Cutting the ties of kinship means when you refuse to interact with your family 
Living in another country is not cutting ties. Even though Abu Talib was a kaafir, the Prophet (SAW) loved him and didn’t cut ties with him. The Prophet (saw) even told Ali to bury his kaafir father, Abu Talib, when he died. But the Prophet (SAW) did not attend the janaza. About the Prophet (saw) loving Abu Talib, Allah said:

Verily! You (O Muhammad SAW) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided. (Al-Qasas: 56) 

You cannot cut the ties of kinship unless your relatives are antagonistic towards Islam. 

It is worthy of mentioning that when a man killed himself, the Prophet (SAW) told the Muslims to bury him but the Prophet (SAW) did not attend the janaza. He (SAW) allowed the Muslims to pray over him, but he himself did not attend. When a man kills himself, he is still a Muslim - he is a bad Muslim 

Q: my question is,   i am looking for a wife and i want to know if a a person   who doesn’t believe in twheed hakimiyya be married 

Tawheed hakimiyyah means Allah is the only Law-giver. When Prophet Yusuf was in prison he taught the inmates four branches of tawheed. See Surah 12:39-40 for the Hujjah.

O [my] two companions of prison, are separate lords better or Allah, the One, the Prevailing? (Yusuf 12:39)You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. Legislation is not but for Allah. He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know. (Yusuf 12:39-40) 

To deny tawheed hakimiyyah is major kufr because to deny tawheed hakimiyyah is to deny that Allah is the only Law-giver. In this regard, Allah said:

Is not Allah the most just of judges? (At-Tin 95:8)

“And He shares not His legislation with anyone." (Al-Kahf 18:26)

Those who deny tawheed hakimiyyah also claim that to dismantle the Shariah is a minor kufr. This ideology is zandaqa [heresy] because when the Jews tampered with the Shariah, Allah turned them into apes and swine. These people who claim to dismantle the Shariah is a minor kufr are trying to insinuate that when Allah turned the Jews into apes and swine He, Allah, was overreacting. About the Jews tampering with the Shariah, Allah said:

Say (O Muhammad SAW to the people of the Scripture) : "Shall I inform you of something worse than that, regarding the recompense from Allah: those (Jews) who incurred the Curse of Allah and His Wrath, those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swines, those who worshipped Taghut (false deities); such are worse in rank (on the Day of Resurrection in the Hellfire), and far more astray from the Right Path (in the life of this world)." (Al-Ma'idah: 60) 

It is worthy of mentioning that those who deny tawheed hakimiyyah are wicked scholars who are cementing the thrones of the apostate leaders for worldly gains. They have sold their religion for a miserable price.
